Ink Level Check GONE!

Photosmart 7150 --  FINALLY got it to work in Windows 7 Home Premium (64Bit)  And THAT was way more of a struggle than it should have been!
I realize the HP "toolbox" is too ancient to even open in Win7 (it was from Windows 98, no?) but there has to be a way to:
Check ink levels
Print a color nozzle check page
clean the print head
SO...I give up...how do I do it?

Hi, I found this doc which may help with cleaning....

  • No Ink level check with Windows 7

    Hello.
Is there a way to check ink levels of my HP Officejet K7100 in Windows 7?
It was fine when I used Vista, but since getting a Windows 7(64 bit) operating system I do not have the facility.
The printer works OK with the new computer - just no ink level check. The new drivers came from within Windows 7 and there does not seem to be the facility to download any others direct from HP.
    Thanks

     Hi Malcom,
Unfortunately, there is only the driver that is inside of Windows 7 for the HP Officejet K7100 and the "in operating system" driver doesn't contain the capability for ink level checking.
I've attached a link to a document from the product support page that indicates the loss in functionality such as ink level checking.  It is down in step 4 (mistakenly labeled step 3 in the document as there is a step 3 above this step) labeled "Learn about the changes you can expect with the in-OS driver".

Which printer model do you have?
Check the ink levelsFollow these steps to check the estimated ink levels from the HP Printer Toolbox in HP Solution Center.
NOTE:If you installed a refilled or remanufactured cartridge, or a cartridge from another printer, the ink level indicators might be inaccurate or unavailable.
    Open HP Solution Center:
Windows XP: Click Start , click All Programs , click HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
Windows Vista: Click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs , click HP , and then clickHP Solution Center .
Windows 7: Click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs , click the HP Folder , and then click HP Solution Center .
HP Solution Center opens in a new window.
In HP Solution Center, click Settings ( ).
In the Print Settings section, click Printer Toolbox . The printer Toolbox opens in a new window.
Click the Estimated Ink Levels tab.Figure 1: Estimated ink levels

  • Checking ink levels

I am unable to check ink levels. I have followed advice elsewhere on the HP Support and have gone the route of "All Programs/HP/HP3050 etc/HP3050 etc" which should offer me the check ink option, but after clicking on the last HP 3050 I get nothing! I have installed the Full feature Software and Drivers but still no joy.  I am running Windows 7 with a wireless connection. Can anyone help? Thanks.

  • HP 6500A - Can't get into printer "control panel software" to check ink level, etc.

First let me apologize... I don't know what the correct name is for the software that starts up when you use the printer icon that was installed on my computer's desktop when I installed the printer.  I am calling it the "control panel software" for want of a better name.
My printer was setup to work wirelessly on my wireless network and was working fine.  The "control panel software" worked fine when I click on the icon on my desktop and I was able to check the ink levels, etc.
I just got a new router and so I had to reconfigure my printer to use my new wireless network settings.  It wasn't working properly, so I decided to uninstall and reinstall the HP software for the printer.  As part of this it put a new icon on my computer's desktop for accessing the printer "control panel software", another new icon for the scan function, and another for the ePrint Service.
The printer works fine... I can print and scan properly.  It successfully connected to my new wireless network and I thought all was well.  However, this is not the case.
What is weird is that the "control panel software" icon doesn't take me to the control panel functions any more.  When I click on it it takes me back through the process of setting up the printer connection (wireless, wired, USB) again.  If I go through that again it tells me everything is installed and lets me set the default printer again and then asks me to register again.  So... I think I'm done, but then if I click on the icon again, it goes through this same process again.
Is there any way to stop this endless connection setup and just get to the "control panel software"?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bill

What operating system?  I recommend not using the software CD as it may be out of date.  Get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.

  • Unable to check HP printer ink levels via Supply Levels

I've got an HP Photosmart 8450 printer, and so far no printing problems with 10.5.1. However, I can't check ink levels in the printer via the "Supply Levels" window, and I can't find another way to see this information. I'm using the printer driver supplied with 10.5.1.
This information was available under 10.4.11 - is there a way to obtain printer ink levels in 10.5.1?

I loaded mine from the 10.5.1 disk, but it's a separate operation from the main install. There's an optional install folder on the 10.5.1 disk with the info.
Load the system disk for your iMac and look at it in the Finder to see if there's a similar optional install folder. Then, there's always the HP website if you can find the driver there . . .
Regarding how you've got the 8450 printer set up, why not put the printer directly on the (ethernet?) hub rather than hanging it off the Vista laptop? There's an Ethernet port on that printer, and that's one of the reasons I picked that model. Your iMac probably can't see the printer the way you've configured things. Bonjour will be able to find the printer and get you hooked up with the printer directly on the hub.

    Hi krmoss,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I see that you would like to learn how to check the ink levels on your Officejet 4620 printer.
The steps on how to check the estimated ink levels can be found in your User Guide on page 74 in the section titled “To check the estimated ink levels from the printer control panel”.   If you have installed the full feature software and driver for your printer onto your computer you can open up the HP Solution Center and check the from there as well.

  • Can't check ink levels with Airport Express

The manual for my brand new Epson printer says that I can not check ink levels if I print using Airport. I am wondering why. Is this a Mac OS problem or an Epson problem? If it's Apple's, is there a fix on the way? I can check ink levels only if I connect the printer directly to the computer. A bit of a pain.

    Hoodtrunk:
I have several Epson printers and have the same issue. My understanding is that the print driver created by Epson does not support anything but printing over Airport. In my case I have an all-in-one unit and in addition to not being able to run the printer utility over Airport, I also cannot scan. I have to connect the printer to the Mac via USB for the scanning software to recognize it.

  • No Low Ink Notification / How to check ink levels

I don't know how it disappeared, but I no longer have an HP icon, and never get low ink notifications.  I have nothing "HP" in program files, so can't figure out how to check the ink levels.  Every time I lose color I have to change both cartridges.  Printer prints fine.  Any suggestions?  Hopefully I don't have to disconnect everything and start installation over - there's always a chance it won't work when I'm done.  Technologically inclined Im not.  Thanks for any assistance you can give.  Printer is PSC1510 All-In-One.

If you press the Cancel and the Start Copy Color button on this printer at the same time and release them, it'll print a Self Test Report that'll have an ink level gauge on it. you can check it there.

  • How to check ink level in printer cartridge

i just finished installing my C4180 all-in-one printer on my new HP dv6 notebook running windows 7
i cleaned and aligned the ink cartridges, but my black is still printing poorly
i want to check the ink level in the cartridge before i buy a new cartridge, but the windows 7 solution center is somewhat different from xp
the solution center tells me that the ink levels are not currently available and when i click on the printer toolbox, i get nothing
the icon at the bottom of the solution center gives me a big green checkmark, but does not give me any useful information
how can i get better info about my ink levels?
    thanks
    frank hershenson

    Hello frankjh,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
Checking the ink levels on the HP Photosmart C4180 can be done a couple ways, from the front panel of the printer or the software installed on the computer.
It is usually not the easiest to see but the ink levels should be displayed in the lower left corner of the C4180 display screen. A small icon looking like a yield sign may be present, if so this is stating it is low.
Since you have tried to use the HP solution Center on the computer in attempt to gather the information and where not able due to an error, you may need to uninstall and install the C4180 on the computer.
Here is the guide to uninstall: Uninstalling the Printer Software. When ready to install download the software from here: HP Photosmart C3100/C4100 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Driver.
I hope this helps, please reply if you need anymore help
