My C4280 (I have Vista) has stopped automatically showing ink levels when printing (the cartridges are HP , not refilled or remanufactured). Can anyone tell me how this can be restored?
Meanwhile I’ve tried “Method One (using HP Solution Centre)” but at the window’s top right it says “Ink levels not currently available”, and in Toolbox it says: “The computer is unable to establish two-way communication with the device.”
With “Method Two” am not quite sure what is meant by “the software program”, but in Windows just General, Security and Details. Going straight to Print doesn’t offer any Properties.Photo Gallery, for example, clicking File doesn’t offer a Print option in the dropdown, and on clicking Properties there is no Services tab.

Sometimes in thr rush to download the software you forget the other (sibling) programs.

If your printer is connected by wired or wireless LAN you can enter the IP address of the printer (found from the front panel by touching the wireless icoon or by printing a network configuration page) in your browser.  This will bring up the printer's embedded web server, which provides various information including ink levels.  You can also get the ink levels from the front panel by touching the ink droplets icon on the front panel.

  • Is it possible to manually reset ink levels for Canon printers on a Mac?

I apologize if this question has been answered elsewhere...
I just got ink cartridges refilled for the first time. The guy in the store said the chip on the tanks was designed to prevent refills but there was a way to reset the ink levels. On a PC, it seems.
Can anyone tell me with any certainty whether/how to do this if it's doable? I've messed around in my printer utility for way too long...Thanks.

According to the Canon web site, the reset is performed via the control panel of the printer - it is not performed via the driver settings so it won't matter that you have the machine connected to a Mac.
Have a look at this page
    http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/8000145501.html
You will see that for the CHECK CARTRIDGE error, sub-code U130, the following is the cause and workaround.
    Cause
An ink tank that was once used up or refilled may be installed.
    Action
Although it is possible to continue printing by holding down the Stop/Reset button for more than five seconds, this operation will release the function for detecting the remaining ink level.

  • No Low Ink Notification / How to check ink levels

I don't know how it disappeared, but I no longer have an HP icon, and never get low ink notifications.  I have nothing "HP" in program files, so can't figure out how to check the ink levels.  Every time I lose color I have to change both cartridges.  Printer prints fine.  Any suggestions?  Hopefully I don't have to disconnect everything and start installation over - there's always a chance it won't work when I'm done.  Technologically inclined Im not.  Thanks for any assistance you can give.  Printer is PSC1510 All-In-One.

If you press the Cancel and the Start Copy Color button on this printer at the same time and release them, it'll print a Self Test Report that'll have an ink level gauge on it. you can check it there.

  • Estimated Ink Level feature in HP Deskjet 2050 J510 printer

Does anyone know why the shortcut of the HP Deskjet 2050 printer no longer has the estimated ink level feature?  It was there until 12/5/12 and now the entire window has changed. Now it only has the options to "See whats printing", "Customize your printer", and Set preferences".  I can.t find any reference to any updates that may have changed this, thus I have no restore point.  The only thing that has changed recently is the new version of the HP Support Assistant.  Could this have an effect on the printer software?

    @rodustep,
The fix for this issue would be to uninstall current software and download the lastest drivers for your printer. I am linking you to the software and driver page just select operating system and select full feature driver.

  • Canon Pixma MP280 AIO printer - ink levels cannot be displayed - how to resolve this problem?

    Good morning everyone,
I have a Canon Pixma MP280 AIO printer (about 18 months old) now which I previously had installed on a old Windows 7 Pro x64, SP1 Dell Optiplex 755 computer.  That computer finally bit the dust.
My present computer is a Dell Optiplex 745, Win 7 SP1 x64 Home Premium  machine.
Description of problem:  After installing the printer on this computer (using the CD/DVD that originally came with it and following all the instructions), I find the printer will no longer display the ink levels.  Every time I click on "Printer Status", the pop-up box just states the info cannot be displayed.  (All other  functions of the printer work just fine).
Resolutions attempted thus far w/out success:
    1.  Uninstalled printer and deleted all files associated with it (2 times).  Re-started computer, then re-installed it.
    2.  Emailed Canon Support.  their response did not resolve the issue.  (Don't recall just what they said as I've long since deleted that email reply).
    3.  Searched the Forums here for an identical problem with the same model printer, but didn't see anything.
My question:  Is there a resolution for this problem?
Thank you for your time and any help.
    Pete C.

Yes, thanks for  your follow-up .. .Mine did not work after the day-long shut off.
I am gonna risk buying a new black ink cartridge since my machine seems to just be running the error on the black alone.
Good luck with your new one.
I will probably upgrade too, if this does not work.  I cannot complain about this machine. I had two, one for office and one for home. Both took A LOT of use. And, i used no-name refill cartridges and no-name refill ink for over half the time on the home machine.
This one, the home one lasted about 6 years, the other about 4+1/2 . I think that is pretty **bleep** (lol it censored the correct spelling of 'dam') good mileage for a fairly inexpensive machine, that got very high ratings, and gave me all those features.
    Good Luck.

  • HP Ink Level Widget

I recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard. All is well with the exception of a few printer/scanner problems with my HP C5280. I did as suggested in another thread and uninstalled the HP software. After uninstalling nothing worked and when I opened my print queue, I got a message that I needed to run software update in order for the HP drivers to be downloaded. I did this and the printer now works and scanning is available using 'Image Capture'. The problem I'm now having is the ink level widget is no longer available. I can check ink levels by going to System Preference ➝ Print and Fax ➝ Options & Supplies ➝ Supply Levels but the widget is gone. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I have it. If it's the HP Ink Level Widget V1.2.1 you see [here|http://www.imageno.com/zthcdqqeishipic.html]. Send a mail to gumsee at hotmail dot co dot uk and you can have it.
Incidentally, my upgrade path is a little different from yours maybe that's the issue. I cloned my boot drive, twice. Zeroed the destination drive and installed Snow fresh on there. (During the install as I've heard suggested by [this|http://discussions.apple.com/profile.jspa?userID=1062781] seemingly very knowledgeable chap the printer was connected by USB and powered on).
I then deleted everything I'd heard was not compatible with 10.6 from the old 10.5.8 boot drive before using Migration Assistant to arrive at a perfectly working Snow Leo. There is an update available for my device which I have downloaded but not yet installed as it prints and scans over any medium without issue.

Had a new router fitted and could not reconnect printer to computer using HP website so used initial installation CD. Printer scans and prints ok.
However, the facility for detecting ink levels and carrying out ink jet cleaning etc are no longer present.
How can this be rectified please?

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @killick73
I understand you need the printers software installed on your Windows 7 system, after changing your router.
I am hoping this will help you!

  • Ink level window

Why did HP remove the ink level window. I can no longer see the ink in the cartridge. Is this to allow HP to rip off customers? What are you hiding?

Please read this post then provide some details. What printer model? What operating system?

  • C3180 Ink Level Notification Lost

I've lost my ink level notification on my C3180 All-in-one.  How can I get it back in Windows XP?

Heartbeat247, has your problem been solved?
Here we are almost two months later and it appears that there still is no reply from HP about your "no ink level" problem. This is typical of HP support. IMHO, HP assigns trouble resolution to Introductory Computer Science students and the results are obvious.
I too am experiencing the "No ink level information available from device" message and I suspect that it was brought about by HP's "fix" to the Solution Center in November. That fix was to correct a dumb error on HP's part where they hard coded the Adobe Flash version number into Solution Center. I guess the figured Flash would never be updated. :-)
Well as you may recall, Adobe had to release some security patches and when that occurred, Solution Center went dumb. It continuously tried to reinstall itself looking for the previous level of Flash. HP finally issued a new version of Solution Center in November. Of course, doing the update was not easy. I had to install Revo Uninstaller to remove all traces of the old Solution Center before I could install the new version.
As soon as the new version was up and running that is when my C3180 stopped reporting ink levels.
Okay HP how long before you fix this one? I wager 18 months hoping that our All-in Ones crap out before then.

  • Office Jet 7500A Wide Fomat 910a - Checking Low Ink Levels

I used to be able to select 'Devices and Printers', select my printer and then I would be given a few choices including Checking ink levels.  I have recently tried to do this, but the option no longer seems to be there.
