Ink Signature

Is it possible to import a signature from a file (like a .tif file) and place it in a .pdf document using Acrobat X?
I also use Nitro version 7 and this feature is easily provided and seccurely provided.
I understand Digital IDs and do have one but an ink (wet) signature is often the only valid form allowed when including a .pdf document in an email.
Thanks in advance,
Ken

Hi George. The process of flattening is part of the answer. It does resolve the security issue of 'permanence' to having the signature part of the document integrated into the paper and not being able to be 'lifted' or edited. However, the question of how to 'paste' the signature into the document in the first place remains. I understand that this can be done with the 'pencil' or as part of the integrated 'Apply Ink Signature' but signing using a mouse is a challenge in dexterity. Admittedly an input device like a stylus or actual inking pen with the right driver can accomplish this. I do like the Nitro approach that allows a file to be inserted and securely at that. Since it is graphic in nature (either .tif or .gif) it can be sized. It is easy to create a signature on a piece of paper and then scan it as a file to be used and is a much more realistic representation of your real signature than one done with a mouse or even a stylus on a vertical screen.
Thanks for the info on the flattening tool; it is in my 'tool box'.

  • Digital signatures and wet ink signatures

    HI all,
I am in the process of converting our paper checklists into fillable pdf forms.  Everything is working well, but Im trying to get my head around digital signatures.
Ideally I just want to click the signature part, choose a user from a list, enter the password and the 'wet ink' signature that is scanned in gets added to the form.
So on my laptop I setup a new appearance for my signature, scanned my signature and added it to my digital signature.  Perfect.
Problem is, I want to be able to use this on other computers.  I copied the digital signature .pfx file and imported it on that new computer, which worked, but it drops the 'wet ink' signature and appearance.
It also appears that anyone can create a digital ID on my laptop and choose my wet ink signature appearance, and sign the document which makes it appear as if I have signed it.  I was hoping the wet ink signature was locked with the digital signature but it appears this isnt the case.
Im trying to find the best way to store our signatures (we are all on a network), so that any user can use any computer and ideally lock the wet ink signature to the digital signature.
    Many thanks
    Chris

It doesn't work for everyone, but if you are considering moving to the world of digital signatures, it's best to forget the signature appearance ("wet"). This is just a distraction to the actual signature, and it encourages a deeply flawed workflow: one where people look at the picture on the page rather than learning about digital signatures and how to verify them. Since digital signatures are (if done properly) unfakeable and (in some places) legally recognised, it is best to completely change workflow, rather than trying to give the illusion it is just an electronic version of a paper workflow.

  • How do I switch from a digital signature back to an "ink" signature

    Reader 11.0.10
Had a doc that required a certificate signature, so I created and used one.
Now I want to go back to using my "ink" signature... how do I do that?
(In a fresh document, if I clock on "Place Signature" button it begins the digital process)

I am in the process of updating all of my organization's PDF forms and creating an environment to digitally share them. The problem that I am running into is these forms have been created by many people by various means. I have found that some forms, when opened with Adobe Reader XI, will not allow me to place a digital signature - neither drawn or with a certificate. Some forms will let me use a digital certificate but not a drawing. I have no idea what settings are different across these different forms that would cause what seems to be different permission levels for different forms.
This is also present when I'm using iOS Adobe Reader - on some forms the signature pen tool is available and on others it isn't. On the ones that it isn't, I can still use the freehand draw tool, but that doesn't work as well as the signature tool.
All of these forms are fillable and savable. Thoughts?

  • How to automatically go to an ink signature

    Hello,
I'm working on creating a document that is used on tablet computers.  I need the client to sign the form with their signature.  Since these are tablet pc's we use ink signatures.  I want to be able to setup my form so when they click the signature box it will automatically let them sign it with the pen instead of trying to do a digital signature.  Also I would like to be able to have it switch back to curser once I click out of the box so they can continue filling out the form.  I'm not sure if any of this is possible.  I'm using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.3.4
    Thank you!

I went through all the possible commands that can be used with the textArea and ScrollPaneSo did I when I wanted to do the job the first time :-)
But thanks to the friendly people here in the forum, I could get along.

  • Anyone Know How To Capture Digital Ink Signatures, Within  a PDF Form?

Anyone know of software (preferably freeware) that can be used in adobe pro 8, which will allow a user, using a tablet PC, to capture digital ink signatures, within a PDF form?

Topaz has a plugin that can be used for developement purposes for free.  Requires you pay for a license if you are going to use it for production.  Check under the applications section.

  • Apply Ink Signature Option Grayed-Out

Why would other computers except mine within my company who have the most recent Reader installed not be able to access the "apply ink signature" option under "extended?" I have enabled extended features.

    Hi Aimaob,
Are you using an English version of Acrobat? The reason I ask is because there is no "Extended" menu item in version 11 and I'm wondering if there is a translation issue here. Also. the Place Signature tool on the I Need to Sign tool panel doesn't ask you to drag out a rectangle (that's a differnt tool), rather it initially brings up the Place Signature dialog where you can create a signature annotation in several different formats, one of which is Draw my signature. Once you've create a signature image the next time you click on the Place Signature tool the signature appearance is displayed as a stamp that can be resized after you apply it.
The drag out a signature rectangle dialog pops up when you open the Work with Certificates tool panel and then select the Sign with Certificate tool.

  • Problems with ink signatures

I used InDesign CS6 to design a fillable PDF form to be distributed via Adobe Acrobat Pro X. When testing, I have no issues with the form fields or digital signatures. However, for this form, we would like the recipient to be able to use the "apply ink signature" feature. Whether the file is reader enabled with extended features or not, I experience two problems.
One is receiving this message: "The security settings on this document prevent adding text and/or placing a signature on it from Adobe Reader. To fill and sign this document you need to print it out." However, one can simply close the message and apply the signature.
However, the signature is not visible at the sender's end once the form is submitted.
Working for a nonprofit, we are not in a position to purchase a second EchoSign license. (The "parent organization" supplies the first license.) I have found another solution, but I would like to know what I am doing wrong because I assume my problems are a result of user error.
Thank you in advance for any assistance provided.

    Mr. Johnson,
I just sent another test. The document contains no digital signatures. I also did not save as Reader Extended with enabld features. I still received the same error message that I mentioned above. Could you offer further assistance?

  • How to add an INK SIGNATURE

Previous versions allowed the ability to add an INK SIGNATURE.
In addition, the PLACE RECTANGLE box could be moved around and resized to fit the form.
    Have we gone backwards??

    Hi Blake,
The functionality is still there, but the entry point has changed in the different versions. What version of Acrobat or Reader are you using?

  • Browser-embedded Adobe Reader doesn't permit ink signatures

I'm not sure if this is a feature, a bug or just an annoyance, but we are unable to apply ink signatures to a PDF displayed within a browser window. The same PDF displayed in a standalone Adobe Reader 9 window will allow for ink signatures to be applied to it. Why can documents in browser windows not be ink signed?
This is problematic for us because we are deploying a web-based application which collects a signature on a PDF form, which then contains a button to proceed to the next step and save the form on the server. Using Adobe Reader standalone to view and sign the PDF breaks the functionality of the form and prevents the form being saved correctly.
Colleagues developing the application report that it works successfully using a plugin for a singature pad, but we are using a tablet PC (motion C5) with a pen to apply the ink signature. There does not appear to be a plugin for this. However, we know we can apply ink signatures in standalone Adobe Reader, we simply want the same functionality in the browser-embedded window.
So far, all suggestions we have received involving buying either alternative hardware or alternative software. Neither is very helpful. Can anyone suggest a fix or workaround using Adobe Reader? Thanks.

i don't remember how it was formulated exactly. there was no printing option found. that was on my other computer (with XP). but on Windows 7 it won't even open, i'm not even talking about printing, because i wouldn't know. the window simply blank, inactive  and immediately closes. online documents load....and in the end just black window or blank Reader page. In IE it gives me "There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/ Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again (15:3)" - every time...

  • How to disable cache of Ink Signature.

Is there a setting in Acrobat / Acrobat Reader XI that will prevent the ink signature from being cached?
    Explanation:
If I select 'Place Signature' from the reader 'Sign' toolbar, then select 'Draw My Signature', accept and place the signature...
This 'ink' signature is now cached / saved, and can be reapplied..
I need to disable this functionality, so that the ink signature is no longer cached..

Nope.. as you can see, you are the only one to reply...
I did notice since that there is a dropdown menu next to the 'place signature', with a menu item to clear the signature.
I was going to investigate executing that menu item somehow..  Haven't gotten back to it yet though..
Please let me know if you figure something out..
    Cheers!

  • "Ink" Signatures in Acrobat Pro XI

I upgraded to Acrobat Pro XI and I can't find a way to use my Wacom tablet to write or sign on a document.  In the previous version under the sign tab there was a "place ink signature" where I could write with my Wacom tablet.  It seems to have been replaced in XI with a "Place signature" button that allows you to create a saved "ink" signature and then just "stamp" that signature when you click on the "Place signature" button.  That is great most of the time, however I often get documents where this button will not work.  On some documents when I click it I get a dialog box that says:
To electronically sign this document or place initials, please click save a copy.
THis is obviously not what I want to do.  I don't want to electronically sign the document.
    Two questions:
    1.  Why does this happen on some documents while with others the "ink signature" that is saved works fine.
    2.  How do I just "write" on a document with my tablet?

I think you'll still have to Save a Copy. The file sounds as if it is Reader Enabled, which locks it, and Save a copy in Acrobat turns that off.

  • Requiring Ink Signature

    Hi,
I created a form using Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended, and would like to require a signature when distributed. How do I set an ink signature as a requirement?

A digital signature field can be set to required like any other type of field. Note that this means required in order to submit, using either a "Submit a form" action or the submitForm JavaScript method, not other things such as saving or printing.

  • Ink signature field

    Hi
    I have acrobat xi.
I am creating a fillable in form from scanned form.
I m having trouble with two things:
1 - I want to add a "field" where the user is prompted to add a drawn signature. So far googling shows you what to do in reader, and how to add one in reader, but I want to add a field that's locked to drawn signature while designing it in acrobat, maybe even lock the ink color etc.
2 - Acrobat JavaScript to add date in LONG format with text so you get "at 9:45 a.m. on Monday the 12th January 2014" in a field when the ink signature is added.
The forms will be used on idevices.
    Thanks
    -Al

No, it's not possible. Ink signatures really have nothing to do with digital signatures. They're just pencil annotations.

    Hi Guys,
Requirement: We need to provide "Apply Ink Signature" (AIS)

This feature is available with Adobe Pro 9.1 version.
Problem: When I open the pdf document in IE browser "AIS"
Feature is not visible in the tool bar, same is working fine with

    Plug-in/ActiveXObject: AcroPDF.PDF.1 returns true
    WebApp: ASP.Net 2.0

Please let me know how to make it visible "AIS" in IE

    Thanks
