Inkwell with white board application Mimio

Hi all,
I purchased a Mimio whiteboard system and would like to use it with the handwriting recognition functionality in the Mac OS Inkwell. Mimio doesn't seem to communicate with Ink like a graphics tablet. This was confirmed by Applecare even though there is a Systems Preferences setting that "allows me to Ink in any application." I called Applecare and they suggested that I contact you all for a workaround. I would really love to use my whiteboard for meetings and then capture the content as text as you would with a graphics tablet. I'd very much appreciate your insight on this.
Thank you,
Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hi, teachervet. Welcome to the Discussions.
You wrote: "I called Applecare and they suggested that I contact you all for a workaround."That was their way of telling you they haven't a clue, but not sending you to the Mimio folks, which is the right source for the answer.
Ink's technology is handwriting recognition, designed to convert handwriting to typed text using the text you write with a graphics tablet. The "Allow me to Ink in any application" option in Ink preferences enables you to use Ink and a graphics tablet in any application that accepts typing, such as a word processor. Ink's input is the handwriting from a graphics tablet.
The Mimio device captures writing on your white board. Its output can be saved as JPEG or PICT files. However, you cannot use the output from Mimio as input to Ink in order to have handwritten text in the Mimio output converted to typed text via Ink.
You need to take the output from Mimio and run it through OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. If your handwriting on the white board is printed and crisp, OCR may be able to convert the writing in the JPEG or PICT images saved from Mimio to text, i.e. as if you'd typed it. However, anything you write on the white board is likely going to have to be in large, block letters and near-letter perfect for OCR to convert it due to the low resolution of Mimio capture, i.e. 100 DPI (dots per inch).
The only choices available in OCR software today for Mac OS X that I'm aware of are:
• Readiris Pro.
• The OCR built into Adobe Acrobat Pro 7.x.
Other, once-popular Mac-based OCR solutions have fallen by the wayside:
• OmniPage Pro X has not been updated for Panther or Tiger, so it is not a viable solution.
• ABBYY FineReader has not been ported to Mac OS X: it is only available for Windows.
The Mimio Xi Product Data Sheet [pdf] includes a notation that Mimio Studio 5 for Mac OS X, due in October 2006 will "...include support in the interactive mode for Apple’s “Inkwell” OSX embedded handwriting recognition capabilities."However, the way I read this, it means Mimio Studio will support "Allow me to Ink in any application," i.e. you can use Ink and a graphics tablet to add notes to documents captured with your Mimio and saved in Mimio Studio 5, not that Mimio Studio will use Ink for OCR to convert handwriting to text in Mimio documents.
Good luck!

  • Anyone successfully connect iPhone or iPad to an interactive white board?

I'd love to be able to project on my classroom SMART Board.  Any suggestions?  I might try through blue tooth tomorrow at school.  I'll keep attempting .
I've tried searching the app store too but no luck.  Anyone feel like writing a comparability app to link apple with white boards?

Ok, thanks for clarifying that they are interconnected by Ethernet. I just wanted to be sure.
If you haven't done so already, I would recommend that you perform a complete power recycle of your networking equipment whenever you add or change items.
    Please try the following:
Power-down the gateway, AEBS, and computer(s); wait at least 10-15 minutes. Note: Power-down order is not critical.
Power-up the gateway; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the AEBS; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    Power-up the computer(s).
Network clients, connected by either wire or wireless to the AEBS should now be able to gain access to the Internet via the gateway. Please post back your results.

  • White Board replacement with a digital system

do you want a large display with local and remote terminal computers they can use to update it, or do you want to be able to interact with the display directly like you do the white board now and also from a remote terminal?
    Both are do able.
The first is probably more cost effective while the second will probably give you a heart attack.

    IT buddies,
I have been tasked and need your input. Here I go.
We have a whiteboard located in our truck terminal that lists the status of the maintenance on all of our trucks (24).
We have 2 mechanics and 3 dispatchers who use that board but communication is not there so the board hardly gets updated.
My question/s is/ are... What would be a great digital replacement? What hardware/ software would I need?
I already have a 55" monitor which I can replace the board with. Also, each of those 5 guys should be able to access the software/ website/ etc... to update.

  • Mac Mini mouse freezes when connected to interactive white board

Our school district has several Mac Mini's (OS 10.4.11) connected to interactive white boards (Smart). With regularity the mouse and/or keyboards will "freeze", often in the lower left hand corner of the screen, and will only operate normally when the USB cord for the Smartboard is disconnected. Then all functions of the computer return. This effectively means that the interactive whiteboard is no longer useful. Has anyone else encountered these issues with Macminis? Could it be a software issue??
Additionally I have had constant problems with our Mac minis "freezing" in our computer lab when students are working on them. If they have several applications open this happens regularly. Are these machines prone to freezing?

Yes sounds like you already know the answer. I'd contact Smart or whomever makes this whiteboards to see if they know about compatibility with the macmini's you use.
As far as being prone to freezing no I've not seen any long or lengthy threads about freezing or other such complaints around here so I don't think so.
I've had my mini for almost a year now and push it pretty hard and find it almost impossible to make it freeze, reboot, lockup or any such thing myself.

  • Firefox 3 cannot download files with white space in the filename

When opening attachments in e-mail Firefox is unable to handle files with white space in the name. This is not the same as the white space file name truncation problem documented on this site (where file names with white space are truncated on saving.) The issue is that the browser will prompt to allow the file to be saved, but it will not prompt to open the file as an option. If I rename the file to remove white space then I do receive the "Open with..." dialog box. I verified that Firefox 2 did not have this problem and I can open attachments with white space in the file names just fine using that version of the browser (2.0.0.20).
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Upgraded to version 3

When a user clicks on an attachment with spaces, the filename is truncated to the first whitespace. While IE, Chrome & Safari handle this, Firefox refuses to accept mime headers with unquoted filename parameters. According to Firefox's bugzilla/knowledgebase, Firefox's behavior is the correct behavior and it's a problem with most webservers or web applications. This problem can be easily corrected by surrounding the filename parameter with double quotes.
    Eg.
    Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=\"" + fileName + "\"");

  • Black screen with white writing on boot - then nothing...

    Ok, this is a long story, but here's the abridged version;
I have a mac mini - the old PPC version. It has just come back from being repaired - replacement logic board. However, repaired it is not. Every time i try to start it up, I get a brief white screen with grey apple logo as normal, and then a black screen with white writing on. The writing is exactly the same text as you can see in the console system log. It gets about a page-full through this, and then goes completely black. No video at all.
However, the machine is still working in there - I know this because I'm typing on it now via VNC. It is perfectly happy and all. It just does this weirdness start up and then no video.
    My question is twofold:
    1. The company that repaired it claims that it booted fine before they gave it back to me; however, it hasn't since I've had it back. Could the boot behaviour be some kind of diagnostic thing they left on my machine, or a mode they left it in. If so, how do I get rid of it?
    2. Failing this, does it sound like my vidoe card packed up maybe?
    Thoughts, solutions, etc., most welcome!

    Have you
tried to simply do a clean install of Mac OS X and
your other software? I normally find that this fixes
90%+ of all unexplained software related issues.
I could, but (a) I'm not convinced it's not related to the replacement logic board and thus a hardware issue, and (b) I can't see to do a clean install because it has no video signal

  • PNGs showing up with white backgrounds

    Hello.
This is very odd as this has never happened to any of my other files that use the same buttons. My pngs that are saved with transparent backgrounds are now showing up with white backgrounds. They also only show up with white backgrounds when you do one of the following:
Press F8 to preview the file
    Publish the file
Has anyone else ever had a similar experience and/or figured out a solution? I have searched the discussion board for similiar experiences...I found one...http://forums.adobe.com/thread/86092. I'm going to play around with "interlace" in Photoshop so I'll keep my fingers crossed. I have also ensured my graphics are smaller than the background--one graphic is an 8kb file and the other is a 13kb file and my background is 112 kb.
Any solutions and/or thoughts are greatly appreciated.

hello nyartist, this has nothing to do with quirks mode - it's just the default way that standalone image files are displayed in firefox...

  • Photosmart C4780 Mac OS 10.9 scan clear on preview, but saves black with white horizontal stripes

I'm having difficulty figuring out why my scanner all of the suddens saves all scanned documents (.pdf, .jpeg, .png) as a black document with white horizontal stripes. The preview scan from the utility looks fine.
I recently updated my Mac to OS 10.9.2
I have uninstalled all HP utilities and drivers and reinstalled them with all updates.
Printing works fine, as does copying.
I scan a lot of forms, so this is disconcerting.
    Thanks for any help.
PS: I see that this is an issue that seems to have been solved for others, but my printer/scanner is not one of the ones listed. Is there another driver to try?
More info: Here is the error code log:

    Hi,
This is a known compatibility issue with the HP Scan application, which is not supported on 10.9.
You may scan using Apple's Image Capture or Preview as listed as a workaround in the following document, a Full Feature Software for your printer is not available for the operating system:

  • Black Screen with white text at startup (??)

    Hello All:
I have a 2010 15" MacBook Pro, just got it in June. Had to send it in for a logic board replacement and now have it back. Everything works great except now instead of having the standard Apple greyish startup screen, I have a black screen with white text that scrolls through all of the startup stuff. I figure they changed some line on a plist somewhere so they could watch the startup and make sure everything was OK, then forgot to change it back.
Although I know it is good to know what's going on under the hood, I would rather it started up the regular way. Anyone know how to switch it back? I would call Apple, but would rather not sit on the phone for a long time for what I believe is probably a very simple fix. I did a search but couldn't find my problem listed....
    Thanks everyone...

    Kappy:
Thanks for the reply. I looked at the plist, but the -v was not there. Here is a copy of the plist:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

    </plist>
At least I know what it is called now - a "verbose startup".
Again, thanks for the help. Learn something new every day.

  • OVD 11g:  White pages application using OIM as datasource

Has anyone seen a good example of a white pages application that uses OIM Org structure and users to build a searchable white pages application?
I'd like to allow users to search for users via the html interface to OVD, but use OIM to populate all of it's data.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

You would deploy the OAM Identity Asserter first in the list with SUFFICIENT JAAS Control Flag. Settings at a minimum include:
Application Domain: <I use the App domain that my OHS WebGate is leveraging typically. No white space please>
Access Gate: <Same Agent as WebGate>
    Access Server: host:5575 of oam_server1
The OAM Identity Asserter needs to be paired with an Authenticator. OIM should have an authenticator in its domain already. If the users are in OIM, then that will suffice. Make sure it is ordered ahead of Default Authenticator.
Setup you proxy to include the following in mod_wl_ohs.conf:
    <IfModule weblogic_module>
    WebLogicHost myhost
    <Location /oim>
    SetHandler weblogic-handler
    WebLogicPort 14000

    Restart OHS.

    please help me out....
    what can i do???

If you are still using Snow Leopard -
Shut down your computer and disconnect all peripherals (keyboard & mouse if pertinent) from your computer.  Now reboot.
If the Mac starts up normally, shut it down again and then plug in one of the peripherals (keyboard or mouse first) and start up your computer again.  If it does so successfully repeat the process, adding one peripheral at a time until your Mac acts up.  At that point, disconnect the last peripheral you added, reboot your Mac and search the peripheral vendor's website for an updated driver.
If no driver exists or the problem remain after installing the new driver, try a different cable or a different port on your Mac.
If none of the above works, again disconnect all peripherals from your Mac, hold down the "shift" key to start up in "Safe Boot" mode.
If the Mac starts up correctly, restart without pressing the "shift" key.
If your computer still does not start up properly, shut it down and restart it while holding down the Apple+Option-P-R keys; keep holding "all 4 keys" down until you hear the startup sound "twice."
If none of the above work Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
(If Disk Utility cannot repair, you will need a stronger utility (3rd party) - Diskwarrior or Techtool PRO)
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
    Remove any 3rd party ram.
Reinstall Snow Leopard - This will install a "fresh" copy of Snow Leopard without archiving old system files but leaves the rest of your files in place.
If your computer is still under warranty or you have Apple Care, take full advantage of it by letting tech support deal with your problems.  It's what you're paying them for.
Out of warranty - take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • Why won't my quick Silver power mac boot up?  Has a gray screen with white circle with slash thru it in the middle of screen!

Gray Screen with white circle with slash thru?  Will not boot up!  What can I do?
    Please help!
    Noel

The circle with slash means it cannot boot from the drive it thinks it's supposed to boot from.
Hold the Option/alt key at bootup, what shows as boot choices?
Will it boot from your OSX Install Disc?
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • I just installed LV2011 and one dll from my vi won't load with the error "application configuration is incorrect"

I just installed LV2011 and one dll from my vi won't load with the error "application configuration is incorrect", which is Windows lingo for "missing package dependencies".  All the computers at my company with 2010 loaded seem to do OK.  When I do a Dependencies Walk I get missing Visual C debug dll's missing plus IEshims and wer which both have a whole tree of dependencies missing on my machine.  The Windows install is the same "Windows XP version 2002 Service Pack 3" on my PC and the working PC's. So I'm thinking I have to uninstall 2011 and go back to 2010.  Is this correct?  Those VC debug dll's were installed on the machines with 2010 in them but were not installed in mine.
I've heard the advice to recompile the dll with debug turned off but I don't have access to the source code.
    Thanks in advance.

    u87 wrote:
Thanks for the reply.  This at least tells me that going back to LV2010 is not likely to solve the problem.  The missing dll's are:
    MFC90D.dll
    MSVCR90D.dll
    IESHMS.dll
    WER.dll
And, once again, IESHMS and WER have other dependencies.  So perhaps i need to install the Visual C++ development environment.
IESHIMS.dll is an Internet Explorer DLL that gets usually delay loaded by shdocvw.dll. As delay load it can not cause DLL load errors but only runtime errors. Maybe your DLL has it as direct dependency but that is unlikely since it does not have a documented interface.
WER.dll is Windows error reporting for Vista/Win7.
MFC90D.dll is the Microsoft Foundation classes and MSVCR90D.dll is the MS C runtime library, both as debug variant.
So all the DLLs you mention are actually MS DLLs! You haven't identified the DLL that you try to access in LabVIEW that causes these error messages. IESHIMS and WER are usually delay loaded by any component that needs it and should not likely be used by non MS code.
What is the DLL you try to load into LabVIEW and by whom? Get the provider of that DLL to provide you a non Debug build of the DLL. Installing Visual C on all the machines just to make the DLL load is not a solution, besides that it is likely not legal since I doubt you have that many licenses.
