Inline attachments in Mail how to remove?

I use Mail for emails but the attachments send inline. I put the code in the terminal section of Applications>Utilities defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool yes but it still doesn't change the mail settings. Can anyone help?

As I stated in the original question, the accounts have already been deleted from preferences/accounts.
If I view Mail Connection Doctor - I see that mail is trying to connect to these accounts that have already been deleted.
Woops shorry I missed that. There are a couple of things I'd suggest, first is restarting in Safe Mode. This will clear some caches, it's possible one or more is corrupt. To do this when you hear the startup tone hold down the Shift Key until a progress bar appears. Let the machine fully boot then restart normally and check to see if the problem is still there.
If it the  problem persists Quit Mail and open Finder - Go- Go to Folder... and copy and paste the  following:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Once the file is located move it to the desktop and check Mail.

The only way possible to send a non-text file by e-mail is as an attachment. Different e-mail programs will handle JPEG attachments differently. Some will show the attachment within the message and some will not.

  • Pictures are showing up as jpeg attachments in mail, how do I correct this?

When receiving an email with photos they show up as a jpeg attachement in the messgae, I can view them through preview. I've tried changing settings, stopped into an Apple store (they couldn't figure it out) and re-installed Lion - Any ideas to get this featiure to work?

In case anyone has this happen, just delete the mail app from the mac and restore the mail icon to applications from the trash. It will clear out the problem.  As a note I re-installed the OS, re-set the settings tried to find the plist (no luck) and asked apple peple at a local apple store. After thinking it through I found the anwser to my troubles, enjoy.

  • How to remove mails (and attachments) permanently?

    Hi!
I just realized my Archive.mbox (~/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes) is quite big (8.5GB) and I decided to remove old mails with large attachments.
As I use GMail account via POP3, first I removed mails from the Google account and I freed up about 1.5GB extra space. Later, I searched for mails with attachments in Mail.app, then sorted then and started to remove and emptied the trash. This operation was quite weird as some of them where moved to the Trash folder, some not.
As I was controlling the space of the Mailboxes folder this is what I noticed:
    - Archive.mbox - the size of the mbox didn't change (anyone know why?)
    - Deleted Messages.mbox increases while removing another mails then decreased while wiping it out (this is what I expected)
In summary, I removed a lot of mails and didn't free up ANY space! Does anyone know how to do it properly?
Also, while googling I found out about "Mail Downloads" folder which is moved from Library to ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail Downloads. As I set "Remove unedited downloads" to "When Mail Quits" can I simply remove all subdirs from this dictionary to save some space? This folder is only used for copy of attachments, right?
    Thanks for anwers,
    Bart

Each IMAP account it's own Archive folder. POP accounts all share the same Archive folder.
I removed a POP account in Mail but the archive messages did not delete. You would need to move them out of the Archive folder then trash to remove if you have archived other POP account messages. However, if it's only the one account, you can manually delete this folder in the User's Library then rebuild the Mail index.
    Quit Mail
Go to the User's Library folder. This folder is hidden by default. To unhide: Select the Finder in the Dock. Under Go in the Menu bar > hold down the Option key and you’ll see the Library.
    Scroll to Mail folder.
Mailboxes folder stores the "On My Mac" messages. IMAP accounts store it's Archive folder in the account's folder.
In Mailboxes you'll find the Archive folder. Delete.
In the MailData folder, delete the 3 files with envelope in the name.
Open Mail and it will reindex your messages.
Let me know if this helps.

  • Selectively removing attachments in mail to send

If I am sending a bunch of files as attachments, and then decide I want to remove just 1 of them before I send the e-mail, how do I do that? Clicking on Remove Attachments removes them all, and selecting one and dragging it to the trash does nothing.
    Thanks,
    Richard

Place the cursor after or before the one you want to remove, and either use the backward delete key or forward delete key to remove just that one.

  • Why does "remove attachments" in Mail now remove entire e-mail?

This is just one of numerous problems with Lion after installing it on MacBook Pro.  Every time I choose "remove attachments" in Mail, it deletes the entire e-mail and I can't bring it back.  Additionally:
    1.     I-Cal entries take forever (delayed entry) and assume I have an all-day event so I now have to enter the event and then open and edit it - additional steps.
    2.     Airport (Wi-Fi) now shuts off without warning and cannot, under any circumstances, be restarted from any of the several screens and buttons that supposedly offer that option.  Therefore, when I switch from Wi-Fi to Ethernet and then back, I have to do a restart.
    3.     The Address Book now has a stylistic but non-functional interface that requires several additional steps to look at anything and there is no longer an option in Mail to "Open in Address Book" without first opening the v-card, once again complicating my life.
    4.     The removal of arows on scroll bars means that I can no longer gradually look at a large file line by line but, rather, have to use the trackpad (which is also jumpy) try to focus in on the area I want by trila and error.  I hate the trackpad for these reasons and now that I have lost the arrows, I have essentially the same problem with the mouse - very cumbersome for anyone doing production type work, rather than just playing.
    5.     My Carbonite no longer works and I see there are compatibility issues with all kinds of other software.  Worse some of my favorite old programs (e.g. Fetch) no longer work in Lion.
    6.     The conversation function in Mail now groups things I don't want grouped (e.g., totally unconnected e-mails with the same words in the subject).  I had to turn that off for this reason.
Overall, Lion is a huge disappointment.  It's all bells and whistles with actual losses in functionality for basic work - style over substance.  This is the same thing I've seen happen with Microsoft Excel as basic issues that needed addressing have been ignored while all sorts of pretty stuff that is pretty much useless has been added.
Even more frustrating is the message I got from Apple Support, which was to re-nstall Lion.  That took 6 hours and resulted in not one correction of any of these issues.  What has Apple done?  This OS was not ready for primetime.

The "feature" I experience is that the message disappears, just as shown in Herbert's video (good work), and that it comes back after a quick mailbox switch. It has nothing to do with message sorting or anything. All my Mail settings are the same as in Mail 4.x, and everything worked fine there. Must be a bug in Mail 5. (Yes, I have reported it.)
The "explanation" that Mail creates a copy without the attachment, instead of keeping the old message without the attachment, doesn't really solve the problem. (Sorry for my extensive use of smileys, it's not my style but sometimes convenient.) The copy should come up without the mailbox switch either way.
    Edit: spelling.

  • Mail, how can you remove an image that shows up in the header?

I have no idea how this image got where it is, but I would like to remove it. When I open Mail, I see in the address area of the email as it displays in the message viewer, to the very right of that area, there is an image, that I have no idea how it got there or how to remove. The following is a link (I think) Mail/Users/alaska_juliens/Desktop/Picture 7.png ...... that shows what I am talking about. I have gone through my signatures and made sure that image isn't in there and it isn't. Please help, it is driving my husband nuts, we would love to change the image to his company logo if possible, but we don't know if that image even shows up when others receive email from us or not (we email ourselves and it is right there in the address header of the email). Thank you for your time and help.
    Mail/Users/alaska_juliens/Desktop/Picture 7.png

Typically what shows up there is the address book picture for that contact. If they attach an image it will be added to the address book.
So go to the contact in address book and change or delete the image.

  • Remove attachments in Mail

"Remove attachments" in Mail (Lion) is disabled and I cant remove the files from the emails I have sent. it worked fine before I switched to Lion and kept my Mail folder in Libary small. Anybody else having this problem?

Just tried it out a little bit more: The problem is related only to mails sent from Mail.app 5.0 in Lion. Mails sent through the mobile me web interface for example behave normally after being synced back to Mail.app. Attachments can be removed from those mails within Mail.app.
Another thing I noticed: The mails that do have the problem do not show the paper-clip symbol in the list of mails on the left side. The paper-clip should appear next to the addressee's name. The mail preview on the right, however, correctly shows that the mail has an attachment and it can be opnened by clicking. I also created a smart mailbox to show only mails that do have an attachment and are in the sent folder: Only the mails sent before installing lion are listed (attachements can be removed) – all lately sent mails are nout found: Obviously something makes Mail.app "forget" that there is an attachment when sending mails in Lion, thus graying out the command to remove the attachment from the specific mail.
Regarding file types of the unremovable attachments there doesn't seem to be a pattern. I have the problem with both word documents and PDF files. The number of attachments neither seems to make a difference.
Temporary solution: Do not send mails with attachments you want to potentially remove later on from within Mail.app in Lion at the moment. Instead, use an iOS device or your mail provider's web interface for sending those mails. Apple, please fix it!

  • How do i open winmail.dat attachments in mail

How do i open winmail.dat attachments in mail ?

Having problems with Winmail.dat attachments?  This is really Windows problem but their hubris will not allow them to admit it.
Windows does have a global fix for this problem but it is not a general patch - in their KB there is a fix for Exchange servers which cause the winmail.dat problem but most users don't know about it or have it implemented.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/138053http://
Here is a solution that Apple users can get for $30.  An Austrian program and APP called Letter Opener http://www.creativeinaustria.com/http:// is the solution to seamlessly opening Winmail.dat files.

  • Remove attachments in Mail fails

Since I first installed Yosemite, I am no longer able to remove attachments in Mail. I use a POP account to download my email from a Microsoft Exchange Server and store the mail with attachment(s) on my iMac. The email plus attachments(s) are now physically in a folder - not the Inbox - on the hard disk of my iMac. They are no longer on the server. I drag (or save) the attachment (no problem) to the desktop or an OS X folder. But now when I try "Remove Attachments" within Mail to discard the attachment, leaving only the email text, the menu choice Messages->Remove Attachments is grey not black and thus unavailable. What is going on? Why does this no longer work? I also have tried dragging the file to one of my iCloud email folder - not the Inbox - but that does not work either. This used to work under Mavericks but no longer. But it should be there because the menu choice still exists. I get this behavior on my iMac at work and also on my iMac at home. Both iMacs are running OS X 10.10.1.
Many thanks to anyone who can help solve this problem.

  • How to remove repeated mails in exchange online outlook web app

    Hi,
Any help me , how to remove repeated mails in exchange online outlook web app . As we are in process of migrating mailboxes to office 365 . We have migrated 5 mailboxes . But when i checked outlook web app after migration completed , i could see repeated
mails . When i compared with on premise outlook and office 365 outlook web app  , there was lot of differences in read and unread mails .
Customer is expecting , same read and unread count should be replicated to office 365 owa.
Please suggest me to prevent this problem . As this is very urgent to give solution to customer .
    Big thanks in advance.
    Vinoth .

If you've setup Outlook 2013 so it's connected to Office 365, and you've import the .pst file into Outlook, it will be showing as another "mailbox" within Outlook, but default called "Personal Folders" (unless you renamed it when it was created).
You should find that you can simply copy the mail items / folders from Personal Folders into their new home in the Office 365 mailbox. Once that's done Outlook will synchronise the items with o365 which may obviously take a while to complete, but once it's
finished those messages will be available online.

  • Mail: How do I remove pictures in messageheads?

In the head of my messages in the mail program, I have managed to include a picture of myself in the right corner. Now I can´t find out how to remove it.

One note, which that article does not mention: those images are not attached to the e-mail message.  Mail simply shows the picture associated with your card in the Address Book on your messages, on your computer.  Recipients of e-mail you send will not see that, unless you have given them your picture and they have added it to your card in their Address Book.  So there's really no need to remove that photo.

Never seen anything like it.  Do iPads get virus'?
Thanks for any help.  I've never used this before.
    Linda

There are no viruses for the iPad. Close the mail app and reboot the iPad.
Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the Mail app and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • How to remove mail account in mail in windows 8?

I said is the windows store mail app. how to remove an account in it?
On the other hand, I also don't know how to ADD a second acccount in Mail.

Thanks for that!  I run a blazing fast laptop (ASUS ZenBook UX51) yet the Charm Bar takes forever to load and sometimes I need several attempts.  So I've blocked the entire UI by using Start 8 and never go to the Win8 UI except for Mail.  This
issue with GMail hanging out there without connecting, coupled with the MS Live ID policy of never allowing you to ever reuse a password pretty much kept me away from Windows for over a month. I use Linux for all of my telephony and speech recognition consulting
    work.
MS Live ID now has a pwd that I have on a Post It Note on my desk (like millions who are forced to use MS Live).  Some security policies do not make sense when weighed against the unintended consequences of extremely tight policies.  MSoft sadly
has never listened to security experts who also are user interface experts with understanding of psychology. <<<Not me, but I work with a few of them and boy they flame MS about security issues with end users!
I had a couple of minutes this morning, so I found this post.  I appreciate the time you spent posting the instructions.  I removed GMail and am considering removing the other accounts too since they are now covered by the very insecure MS Live
ID (My password is on my desk.....)
IMHO, MSoft should add in another UI control within the mail app to do this. Perhaps if only a visible link. Classically there have been at least three ways to accomplish an action in Windows.  By limiting it to just one that is optimized for the less
than optimized UI touch, MSoft is making it difficult for end user.
