Inline object in portrait-layout text disappears when switched to anchored?

I'm trying to add a simple drop-cap to a text-only book that I'm putting together in iBooks Author. In Landscape orientation, it works fine; I add a text box, position it at the beginning of the chapter text, set it to Anchored placement, and turn on Object causes wrap.
In portrait orientation, however, "anchor" isn't working. Specifically, if I create an object, copy-paste it into the pageless body text (so it's inline), and then switch it to Anchored placement (via either the Inspector or the toolbar), the object vanishes. Completely--it's gone from the document entirely so far as I can tell. I tried it with a text box and various shapes, and also tried creating a new document with a different template--the behavior was the same in every case. The object just disappears.
Now, that just can't be the intended behavior, but is this a reproduceable bug for other people? And/or is there a workaround so I can get a drop-cap in portrait view?

Hi Eric,
I believe the problem is because the leading on the image paragraph is now set to 14pt, whereas previously it was probably set to auto. Auto leading is the only way to get images to push the text down like you want. Note also that for some reason, ID has a preference "Apply leading to whole paragraphs" turned off by default. Unless you select the whole paragraph, auto-leading will not work the way you want it to until you have this preference switched on.

Before I drive myself any more insane than I already am can someone please confirm, or otherwise, that it isn't possible to use inline objects in page layout mode or, indeed, inside text boxes in word processing mode? Assuming this is the case can anyone suggest a work around?

Here is the way I work (mainly because I don't store my photos in iPhoto).
drag and drop the picture file onto the doc's page.
select the picture frame with its square handles
Cut it so it will no longer appear but is stored in the clipboard.
Put the cursor where you want to insert the picture then paste.

As a student, you might be able to get Office for Mac from the college bookstore at a substantial discount. Otherwise, I think your best option for documents that need to be shared with Office users is to get one of the free Office clones such as LibreOffice.

Why does added text disappear when I move the cursor

After adding text to an unprotected .pdf file the text disappears when I move the cursor and want to add a second box of text. The text in the first box reappears when I double click on the space where the box was. How do I set the text so that it remains visible and printable?

I think the data in the PDF file was filled-in using MAC preview.
One option is to ask the user to fill the file again using Adobe Reader or Acrobat.

When the designer updated a few Incopy stories in the Indesign file, the text disappeared. Anyone seen this before?

Text disappearing when you update a TOC is usually a symtom of havint put the TOC in the main story thread. The TOC must be in a separate story, not thread to anything else, becasue updating replaces the entire story.

Text Disappears when on top of an HTML overlay. This is a very simple file. It's not even part of an MSO. The text is disappearing when I view in both the desktop content viewer and the iPad.
I've tried converting to outlines, doubling the layer, copying and pasting back into. Nothing. Any suggestions

You might also try creating the html and leaving a space for you existing text. Select transparent background for you overlay and the text should be visible.

Dynamic text disappears when clicking bold button.

I have dynamic text inside a movieclip, that I can make it rotate.
the dynamic text properties are : anti-alias for anmations and I emdedded all characters.
When I click on the bold button the the text disappears.

the easiest (and not very elegant way) is to add textfields that contain those fonts (and embed them). you can remove your textfields from the display list or otherwise, make them not visible on-stage.

Text disappears when editing a layer in Dreamweaver 8

I have had a problem for a long time now with text
disappearing while I'm editing it in a layer. If I scroll up to the
top of the page and down again (sometimes a couple of times), the
text will reappear, but this is cumbersome (and rather annoying).
Does anyone else have this problem? Is it something I'm doing
incorrectly? Any help anyone can offer would be greatly
appreciated.

Why does my text disappear when I apply an effect to it?

Recently, whenever I try applying an effect to my text layer(s), the text completely disappears from the layer and therefore is not showing up when I preview my composition. How do I stop this? I'm using CS5.5 if that helps.

Just the text in my text layer is what's disappearing. I import my image file, drag it onto the board and then click to add a text layer. I type out my text and then go into the effects & presets, select Animation Presets --> Text --> Animate In -->,Straight In MultiLine, drag the effect into the text layer and then my text disappears, as shown in the second image below ...This just recently started happening to me and I don't know how to get it back. If the textfield is manually placed on the stage, you should be able to select the textfield and click the button for Embedding that is in the Properties panel.

Text disappears when graphics frame is placed on top of it.

When I try to substitute a large cap in a text frame with a graphics frame in ID CS4, the text disappears.
I have been able to do this successfully in the past, but not with this particular text frame.

That can't be the whole story. The image you posted indicates that if text wrap is applied, the offset is 0 (if it was anything else it would show when the frame is selected, as it is in the screen shot).
Normally you'd actually do this with text wrap and it would push the text to the right (and re-wrap the lines) in the first few lines when the image frame was put into position, but you've done something else we can't see to make that notch.

I'm sure I've seen this question addressed here before but I cannot make the "Search" work. Every time I search I get "no results" even when I search for something as obvious as PDF.
So please forgive me posting a question that I'm pretty sure has been answered in the past...
When I use the Typewriter tool to type some text, and then I click out of the text box that the Typewriter tool created, the text that I typed disappears. If I double-click on the typewriter text box then the text reappears. Then if I click out, the text disappears. And so on...
How do I make that text stay "viewable" even when I click out of the typewriter text box?

Here is an image where the box with the Typewriter text (the word "test) is "activated", with the comments list showing down below but without the "test" comment in the comment list being highlighted. At the green "plus sign arrow" in the upper-right corner is the word "test".
Now below is an image where the box with the Typewriter text (the word "test") is not "activated" (but you can see the blue box where the word "test" should be showing), with the comments list showing down below, with the "test" comment highlighted, and the "Comments" dropdown menu so that you can see what's black in the dropdown menu.
When I clicked on the "test" comment in the comment list, the word "test" went away in the upper-right corner and the blue box showed up instead.
Am I showing what you need to see or should I show something different?

How come my text disappears when I choose a new theme?

I'm new to keynote and I've imported a powerpoint presentation and I want to change the theme. When I do this, my text disappears. Can anyone help?

sometimes this can appear to happen if the text is in a "body" box but the master slide doesn't have the body box turned on by default.
Once your text goes missing, click on the slide inspector and then on the Appearance tab. See if the title or body are turned off, and check them to turn them back on.
Also, when you choose the new theme, use the theme choose, don't just pick a theme from the list, and when the chooser comes up, UNCHECK the retain changes to theme defaults. This should force your ppt into the new theme more correctly.
If your text is still missing, then there's something else going on here.

Unfinished email disappears when switching Apps

When preparing an email on my iPad Air, I sometimes need to check a calendar or another app. Switching to that other app, apparently deletes my incomplete email and I can't find it. Any suggestions how to avoid this problem or does someone know what happened to the unfinished email message?

The unfinished email shouldn't disappear when changing apps. To make sure you can save it if it does, first tap cancel, then tap save draft.

Text "disappears" when using text box tool

We are running Adobe Acrobat Standard vers. 7.0.9 inside Thomson Corporation's GoFileRoom vers. 6.0. When using the text box tool to add comments to a pdf, the text within the text box "takes on" the color of the background of the box, making it seem that the text has disappeared. The only way to see the text is to edit the text box and change the font color OR to view the contents of the text box in the Comments section. How do I resolve this? Would appreciate any help.

I am having the same problem. Both with text boxes and text in the actual document. Do you think it is GoFileRoom related? I never made the connection but I wouldn't be surprised. It seems worse when different versions of Adobe are used. Some have ver 7 and other ver 8 but we are all using GFR.
Have you had any help?
