Inporting JVC HD6 to Final Cut Pro???

Hi,
I just purchased a JVC HD6 camcorder and want to know the easiest/best way to import the footage into FCP. I have the first version of Studio (FCP 5?) and a MacPro that's running OS 10.4+. JVC's .MOD files have thrown me for a loop.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tracy

Hey Tracy,
I use cyberlink’s powerdirector, it converts .mod files from my jvc media camera to avi, mpg 1&2 extremly well. find it with torrentbox or purchase a copy.
or,
change the file extention to .m2v. This is an mpeg2 format and is recognized in adobe and includes audio, without any problems. Hope this helps.

  • Final Cut Pro X and JVC camera

Can anyone who saw the April preview of Final Cut Pro X tell me if it will contain the necessary codec for my JVC GY - HM100U camera? Many thanks.

    finnur,
I am interested in using this camera for a documentary shoot this fall.
most of the info I have read online has been from your posts here & it sounds like you love the camera.
Do you shoot in the XDCAM QT codec or using mp4? sounds like it works pretty well with FCP?
do you transcode to prores before editing?
Is there anything else I should know about the camera before i make the plunge?
    THANKS!

  • Annoyed with JVC/Final Cut Pro import problem; will they ever fix this?

Annoyed with Final Cut Pro JVC import problem; will they ever fix this?
I've shot footage on JVC GY-HD111E in the UK in 720p/25p PAL mode.
I'm trying to import lots of short clips (average 10 seconds) into Final Cut Pro (latest version with 720p/25p support) with a new Mac Pro maxed out with ram and 3 extra internal HDs.
Problem is, on a scene-break i.e. pause/stop, Final Cut detects this and creates a new clip, but it takes about 5 seconds to 'searching for media" before it starts the new clip. Because some clips are only very short, this 5 second delay sometimes means I only get the final few frames of a clip, rather than the entire 5 seconds or so of it.
JVC UK are blaming Apple and are saying it is up to them to fix it as Premiere and Edius does not have this problem.
However, Symbiosis in the UK (who do HD-Connect box) say that the JVC ProHD cameras do not wrap the shots up properly at the end, they are kind of left open and this creates problems on scene-breaks.
I've tried turning off the "create new clip on timecode break" etc, but it does not make any difference, when I do this it simply quits capturing on a scene break. Besides I have about 300 cutaways like this and I don't want to spend the rest of the year breaking them up on the timeline as this would be a futile and long workflow.
I'm importing and working on a native HDV 720p/25p timeline and this is the way I want to work. I've already imported and edited 4 hours of footage, but these 4 hours were easy as all 4 tapes had no start/stop points, they were recorded continuously from beginning to end of tape for 64 minutes each time so importing was no problem; 1 clip per tape.
But now I've come to my 5 tapes containing hundreds of cutaways I'm kind of screwed and need some advise on how I can import them natively in HDV without losing this 5 seconds off the beginning of each clip whilst FCP searches for the media each time.
I've been told this issue is definately with FCP, any ideas how I can get around this?

I haven't heard of this JVC/FCP problem, so I can't comment on it. However, whoever shot the cutaways didn't do you, the editor, any favors.
I've been doing video since 1984, and I've got to say, anyone who shoots a scene that is only 5 or 6 seconds long on tape is making a huge mistake, and it's been that way since the beginning of computerized editing in the late 70s.
Shoot at least 5 seconds of pre-roll before the shot begins, then roll tape for at least 5 seconds after you've got the shot. That's the protocol I've followed for 22 years now. Tape is cheap, edit suite time isn't.
But laying down only 5 to 6 seconds for a scene is wrong, IMO.

  • Is There any way to make a JVC GZ-HD7 compatible with Final Cut Pro X

    Hi
I have a JVC GZ-HD7AA and i need it to work with my New Macbook Pro and a 30 day trial version of Final Cut Pro X
Is there any way this will work?
i have tried it with imovie and it wouldn't work either. If it could just work with one of these programmes i would be happy.
Thankyou in advance for any responses.

I know nothing about the camera other than what I have just read.
It looks as though this may be one of the cameras whose maker thinks they're cleverer than anyone else and develops a non-standard video format that cannot be edited properly.
If you can copy the video files to your desktop, download MPEG Streamclip and use it to convert the files to ProRes 422.

  • I can't not transfer files in 'log and transfer' of Final Cut Pro. I recorded it in SD card using Nikon D7000 and JVC GY-HM100U.

I can't not transfer files in 'log and transfer' of Final Cut Pro. I recorded it in SD card using Nikon D7000 and JVC GY-HM100U.
I think I need plug-in.  Please let me know.  Thank you.

Well, the Nikon D7000 footage cannot be logged and transferred.  There is no plugin for that like there is for the Canon cameras. Nikon never developed one.  So the footage from that camera will need to be converted with Compressor or MPEG STREAMCLIP.
The JVC should work...what version of FCP are you on?

  • Problem inporting final cut pro documents

I import video and edit it using Final Cut Pro 5.0.1. I export it using QuickTime video with DV NSTC coding. I use iMovie to compress the video (usually around 10-15 gigs) to podcast them using iWeb. It works like a charm about half the time. The other half iMovie will not let me even import the video into it. It tells me that there is an unknown error and wont let me import the video. But then Ill try a different video, imported and exported the same way and it will work fine. I need some help. i cant figure out what the problem is.

I'll wager that while you moved the media/renders to an external drive, you didn't change the Waveform Cache, Thumbnail Cache, Autosave Vault, etc...

  • JVC Everio HD cam to Final Cut Pro

Okay, just wanted to post a straight and simple answer to a former topic I came across (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1181725&start=15&tstart=0)
I was searching tonight for some troubleshooting on this issue as I was trying to get PC-only files off this camera, but everything on the Internet made the transfer more complicated and had people downloading unnecessary garbage to make sure everything converts before using the clips in Final Cut Pro.
So here's an easy, trouble-free answer I hope will help some people in the future when they're Googling for help on this this issue.
    1) Hook up and turn on camera, make sure it's in Backup mode
    2) Open Final Cut Pro
    3) Under File go to Log and Transfer
    4) Window will open and you will see the camera loading all the clips
    5) Select whatever clips you want and drag them to the queue
    6) They will begin transferring automatically to your browser. *It's important to note it is converting them all to .mov files.*
There. Easy. Painless. And you don't have to download any components or converters.
    - Matt

You're referring to a thread that's a year and half old, using an older version of FCE, which did not include log and transfer.

  • Unable to load Final Cut Pro

I just did an auto-update last night of FCP, and this morning am not able to start the program. I have not had this problem before, and have been using FCP for the last month or so. The error I got was that it may not be able to laod "nsTODimporter plug-in". Time-Of-Day? Come on, what's the problem here.
I am now re-installing the whole application. This is a joy when you have a lot to do, and little time to do it.
Any thoughts from anyone? I guess the first thing to do is not update FCP when it says there's an update out there.
    Agree? Disagree?
    Thanks for any input.
    -dan

The problem has been solved, with a little pain.
The original problem (Final Cut Pro would not run after performing an automatic update of the OS, FCP, and many other apps) was related to the JVC component "nsTODimporter.component", which is an MPEG2 component used in QuickTime to allow you to convert JVC's compressed HD movies into apple MOV files.
The problem had nothing to do with FCP (I didn't know this to begin with when I created the first thread entry here).
The problem had to do with an update to the OS. Before the update, I had OS 10.5.1 After the update I had OS 10.5.2.
As it turns out, the JVC component is valid for OS 10.4.6 thru OS 10.4.8, and is not compatible for OS 10.5. BUT, the component worked for OS 10.5.1 because Apple allowed compatibility for many components for 10.5.1, but took this compatibility away for 10.5.2. to (per Apple tech support).
So, the steps I performed, and outcomes of the steps:
    (1) Re-install FCP studio.
This took a long time, and didn't solve the problem.
    (2) Run Repair Disk Permissions
This didn't fix the problem, which lead me to believing that this was not a permissions issue.
    (3) Delete the FCP Preferences file
    This didn't fix the problem.
    (4) Create a new admin user on the machine, and try to run FCP from this new user.
THIS WORKED! So, the problem was specific to the user.
    (5) Go back to main user, and see if FCP would now work with original user.
    It still did not work.
    (6) Find the plug-in and remove it
The plug-in was a Quicktime plug-in. Removing the plug-in fixed the problem. The plug-in allows you to convert JVC MPEG2 files to MOV files using Quicktime Pro.
Now that I have things back up and running, I have turned off the update function for the mac. Hopefully I won't have this problem again.
An an additional note, if you are using FCP, I recommend never buying the JVC GZ-HD7U camera. It seems like a nice inexpensive HD camera, but it's not worth the trouble required to allow you to use FCP for editing. I unfortunately didn't have the ability to use a better camera for the project I am on.
Thanks very much to those that replied.

  • Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 freezes on output to VHS and other weridness!!!

    Gents and Ladies,
First time poster...I feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside...really I do...
My Brand New G5 dual 2.7GHz blah blah blah is freezing up on out put to VHS. I am using a JVC SR-VS30 Mini-DV/SVHS dual deck.
Why VHS? I work for a school district and that's the cheapest stock possible.
Anyway... the board meeting tape I output last night all the sudden freezes after like 45 minutes of recording. It litterally screwed up right after I left the office last night. I actually stayed with it for 45 minutes and "held its hand" to make sure everything went along alright. Right after it left..."feeeze frame, freeze frame...now freeze..du du du na na na"...did you ever hear that song?
Anyway...to make a long story short...while watching the tape this morning...it was just stuck for like an hour like that. I turned it off after 30 seconds but after fast fwd'n the tape...it just kept recording like that.
Totally unbelieveable. I love how Macs need to rest before it starts to work. It grabs a cup of Joe and a bagel...reads the morning paper...returns a few emails...then it MIGHT be ready to work...if your lucky. And then...if your not looking...it'll randomly fail. I love that...so..what I do...is I try to trick it into working for me...yeah...I trick it...:)
Anyway...so I want to run Disk Warrior. My screen saver is turned off, my hard drives don't go to sleep, all the things you might think would cause it to go off line over the course of 3 hours... I have turned off. It would seem...at least to me...that when it tries to Auto Save the glitch kicks in.
The other thing is that I record the meetings on an NNovia Quick Capture HD DVR via Firewire. It has worked many times before...flawlessly. The copy is fine...the file in Final Cut is fine. It even previews to a TV monitor nicely...but on output...its choking on the toothpaste when rinsing.
    JB
G5 Dual 2.7ghz H2o cooled   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   Double dipping on RAM

    O.K. cool.
I did change Auto Save before any of this even happens. I made all these very changes on my previous dual 2.0 G5. That machine...although much slower...always worked...never faultered...very dependable. Quite honestly the best Mac I ever worked on...until new versions of stuff came out and ruined all my fun.
I have changed all the pertinant settings...at least I thought.
Do any of you think I should ask for the upgrade to 5.0? Does it have any fixes in it that make it worth it? The new machine is what has made the bugs pop up. For a while it wasn't even recognizing my deck then one day it started working. Any thoughts on that... let me know. I am not a huge fan of the Dual JVC deck but it has worked pretty well. Now I use this DVR and it works really well for long running board meetings. At least VHS does what its told...:) With DV you always got to wonder if you've dropped some frames. Even if I am recording to a Hard Drive.
Before this gig I worked on the "last run" dual something G4 Quicksilver's and they all ran horrible. FCP3 and bugs everywhere. After that disaster I then jumped ship all together to a Canopus Premiere Pro system on a DVStorm2 Pro + card. That is a nice system. Great Chroma Key stuff. Now at this gig I have been working in Mac again. I was hugely surprised by how well the G5 performed. It did get a little slow for me eventually. Honestly my single P4 in combonation with the Canopus Realtime Preview Board really beat it up quite badly. Even that still had to render in the end but at least I could see everything while I was working. Render time was pretty fast in the end too. I think that has been my favorite DV Editing solution on PC.
I really like Final Cut Pro. I think it quick and dirty...just the way I like it. I started out learning on Avid and if the company I worked for used it...I would prefer that truthfully but I have been riding FCP for 3 years and counting and every place I work at is Mac so...I am totally on this boat.
Any opinions on the Intel stuff yet? I would be interested in perf as I would like to get a Mac system at home and sell my Canopus rig...all thought I do love it so.
    BTW...no...no error messages at all...
...and I would've styaed with it last night if I didn't have to finally leave after another 10 hour day...tonight I have a 2 hour video after work and then Sat/Sun we have a huge music festival and that will 2 12hr days...so...if I didn't need sleep...I would'e been able to stay some more...
    ;)~
...Oh and I have a 250 GB Serial ATA system drive and a 250 GB A/V Storage drive.
    FCP stuff on A/V Drive
    iMovie/iDVD stuff on system
...has always seemed to run better like this.
Many thanks for the ideas and for any future input.

  • Final Cut Pro/GY-HD111E import problems?

    Final Cut Pro/GY-HD111E import problems?
With a brand new Mac Pro and very latest Final Cut Studio complete with updates I'm having a little problem trying to import footage directly from a JVC GY-HD111E (yes I'm in PAL land, UK) via FireWire into FCP.
Footage is 720p/25p and timeline is set up in FCP that way.
I'm doing a 'capture now'. The first clip I'm trying to import is about 45 minutes long with no cuts/breaks whatsoever.
What happens is after about 60 seconds or so, it FCP automatically breaks the clip for no reason and starts a new one, trouble is, when it does this I lose about 4 seconds of footage at that point.
It continues to break clips randomly, sometimes after 40 seconds or so, sometimes after 95 seconds, but usually between 30 seconds and 2 minutes and each time it starts a new clip I lose between 1 and 6 seconds.
As I say, there are zero breaks or cuts in this clip, I have a 45 minute clip that was shot in one take, not even a pause anywhere.
Is this a JVC issue or a Final Cut issue?
It's a pain as it simply means I can't import my 9 hours of footage hence I can't get on with this project.
Any ideas why this phenomenon is happening?
    Thanks guys.

I mean I get the same errors.
    Let me explain again.
There are NO start/stop/pauses in this clip.
I'm trying to import just ONE clip with no breaks, again, there are NO start/stop/pause, it is one continuous clip of 15 minutes duration.
The JVC creates some sort of errors at the Firewire output stage, it drops frames or other errors, FCP gets confused and creates a new clip, even though it is the same clip, but due to the GoP structure, it looses a few seconds too hence I can't import the footage as I keep loosing bits here and there mid clip. It is randam, every 30 to 100 seconds or so it will do this.

  • Help. What format is best to export to for Final Cut Pro editing from PPCS5?

Ok. So I really have no experience with Final Cut. After reading online for an hour about what formats to use, I was still left with no clear answer and confused. Here's my issue: I have 1080i 60i .tod files from my JVC ready to be batch exported from CS5 Encoder, I need a format that will be read and able to be edited on Final Cut Pro without issue.
Could someone with Final Cut experience please chime in:
    What should I use exactly?
    Greatly appreciated,
    Nick

Are you using Premiere on the same Mac that FCP is on? If so, your best format choice is QuickTime and codec choice would be ProRes422. If, however, you're on a different Mac or on a PC instead, I'd suggest QuickTime with the freely available, cross-platform Avid codecs. You'd probably want to use DNxHD, in that case.
The Avid codecs are great because, well, they're free, but more importantly, they're available for both decoding AND encoding on Mac and PC. ProRes, on the other hand, only has an encoding component for Mac, and it has to have FCP installed on it.

  • Final Cut Pro Monitor/TV/Camera hookup

How do I hook up my G5 dual core Mac to JVC monitor(Model # TM-R9U) through Sony DSR 200 DV Cam camera(used for my deck) and then to my Toshiba television with RCA and S-video Line 2 outlets. tv?
I want to watch and monitor my Final Cut Pro timeline through JVC monitor for color correcting, then watch the clips through the television to see what they look like on TV.
Sorry for the mess but I need to get this hooked up ASAP.
    Thanks a million,
    Julian

    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
VIEW>Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
VIEW>Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section
