  • Audio via USB displays input level but no sound is heard.

I have a Roland System 1 synth that features audio via USB. I have installed the drivers, and the System 1 is showing up in my menu for system preferences/sound. When I select the System 1 as my input device, play the keys, and adjust the synths volume knob, the input level meter responds accordingly, showing that the Mac is hearing the output of the synth. However, I can not get the sound to come out of the speakers! The Mac's internal speakers are set as my output device, and they are turned up and working fine with all other audio.

I have MIDI working fine in my DAW.
I just can't get any audio to play through USB, which is a feature of the System 1.
System 1 is set as my input device (driver has been installed) within system preferences/sound, I play the keys, and adjust the synths volume knob, the input level meter responds accordingly in the preferences window, showing that the Mac is hearing the output of the synth. No sound is heard.
All other Audio/system sounds/itunes/etc. can be heard.

  • I have a m-audio producer usb microphone and since the update on Dec. 22, 2013 Logic hasn't been allowing me to record with it. Logic is reading the microphone as the input but the audio tracks don't have the record enable button. What's wrong?

I have a m-audio producer usb microphone and since the update on Dec. 22, 2013 Logic hasn't been allowing me to record with it. Logic is reading the microphone as the input but the audio tracks don't have the record enable button and won't let me select an input for the audio track on the inspector panel. What are some possible solutions.

Certain M-Audio USB devices (along with some other USB2 class compliant devices that don't use drivers) no longer work with Logic Pro X 10.0.5
At this time it is unknown as to why this has happened. Nor is it known if Apple will need to fix it or if it is up to the Developers of said USB2 devices  to remedy the problem.
In the mean time, assuming you made/could make backups prior to updating to 10.0.5.... the solution is to roll back to LPX 10.0.4...

  • Mainstage2/air/m-audio fastrack usb/guitar no input

I just bought MainStage 2 and downloaded to my Macbook Air (13 in) running OSX 10.7.2. Connected my guitar via m-audio fastrack usb and selected the m-audio interface for both sound input and output in system prefs. In mainstage I also made sure to select the fastrack device for input and output. Yet, when I played the guitar no input was recognized in mainstage. I could hear the raw guitar (a Taylor T5) through the earphones I had connected to the m-audio device, but nothing was making it to the computer. Same problem in garageband. I tried another guitar too, but same result. I also made sure to install the most recent m-audio fast track usb drivers.
Any ideas? I know I've gotten the fastrack to work with garageband before with no problem (on an iMac with an older OS). I'm wondering if the problem is something about the air?
Thanks for any help. I'm doing a live gig in a few weeks and hope to be able to use mainstage for it.

No sound coming out of what? Your Mac speakers, fast track connected headphone/speakers or no signal getting to garageband?

  • No audio after USB audio accessory is connected

I've discovered what I believe is a rather interesting (and rather serious) bug in the iPhone 2.0 software:
When an USB IAP accessory (such as a lot of newer car stereos) is connected and disconnected a couple of times the audio output from the iPhone will often stop working. Disconnecting the accessory or plugging/unplugging headphones does not fix the problem.
And I mean the audio completely dies: I get no audio from the phone, voicemail, ringtones, iPod, or system sounds from the speaker, headphones, or dock output.
It's like the audio drivers crash. Sometimes the audio will start working again after a long period of time (like if the phone has been sitting idle for hours while I'm at work) but usually I have to reboot to get it working. It seems when I can get audio to work again without a reboot, I get a new crashReporter log about mediaserverd the next time I sync.
The problem occurs when the phone is connected to an iPod accessory that uses the IAP audio-over-USB capability (I tried my Pioneer car stereo and a Kenwood stereo at Best Buy) It does not occur when connected to an accessory that only uses analog audio. I've seen it happen on my iPhone 3G and the original iPhone, so I know it's not a hardware problem.
I know for a fact the Pioneer and Kenwood units I tested are stated as having USB inputs compatible with the iPod Video, iPod Nano, iPod Classic, and iPod touch. (I can confirm the Pioneer does work fine with my old iPod Video.)
Multiple reviews have shown them to also work well with original iPhones running 1.1.4 and below (even if you do get the "not made for iPhone" warning)
However, both phones I tested are running 2.0. Which leads me to think this is a bad 2.0 bug.

  • USB audio to USB audio

I have audio hardware that does audio I/O with the Mac through a USB connection.
I have another piece of hardware that does audio I/O with the Mac through a USB connection.
I would like to route the audio out from hardware A to audio in of hardware B, and vice versa. Do you know of an application that would enable this cross connection?

Quite possibly I have not described the challenge adequately.
Picture, if you will, an audio tape recorder and a sound system. The out port of the tape recorder is plugged into the in port of the sound system. The out port of the sound system is plugged into the in port of the tape recorder. I'd like to essentially replicate that. For example, suppose that my tape recorder is USB connected - I can play into the Mac, I can record from the Mac. I also have the headset (headphone & microphone combo). I want software that cross connects the two as described above. Once cross-connected, I can record my speech on the tape recorder, and hear the tape recorder play back through my headphones. Now replace the USB tape recorder with a USB-interfaced two-way radio. I speak into the mike, the audio is converted within the mike assembly, the encoded audio is passed into the Mac, transferred to the other USB port where the encoded audio is passed to the radio device, where it is restored to analogue and used to modulate the radio carrier. Similarly, what is heard by the radio is passed to the headphones of the headset.
The software that I am seeking would have the ability to deal with two separate USB inputs and two USB outputs. A mixer probably can deal with two or more discrete inputs, but probably not keep the two inputs isolated and passed to two outputs as required by the application.

  • No audio selection after loading Driver for M-Audio MobilePre USB

I recently downloaded the latest Driver for my M-Audio MobilePre USB on my Mac Pro and the audio input out put selection in the system preferences are not showing up. However it does show it listed in "Other" in system preverences, but only the volume control.
How do I get it the input and output selection to work?

I tried calling them but they said you need to have a service number, when you registered, which I got mine about 9 or so years ago and dont remember any numbers!
You need to purchase a number to talk to service, its a bunch of c#@@p.

  • Home Recording w/ AT3035 & M-Audio Mobilepre USB

    Hi All-
I am looking for a good way to get sound from my mic (Audio Technica AT3035) into my iBook (G3, OS X.3.9, 900MHz, 256 MB RAM).
A friend recommended the M-Audio Mobilepre USB, but I've read about people having problems w/ condenser mics.
I realize ideally I would get a new computer and an Mbox, but that's not an option. I'm a grad student, and funds are very limited. Even the Mobilepre is stretching it.
    Any suggestions/comments?
    Thanks,
    Wes.
    iBook G3   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Wes: I purchased a Behringer mic200, which is a low priced tube preamp with +48v phantom power for a condenser mic. I have been very happy with the results and features. I know that A.R.T. also makes a good one. Only problem for you is that these preamps are powered via a wall wart. Set up is via the audio input jack as opposed to usb.

  • Latency and the M-Audio mobilpre USB

I know its like an overworked subject but I have searched and gotten no real answer.
small but realy annoying amount of latency makes doing overdubs and such a real confusing thing. (aka-beotch).
playback always lagging just a little behind new input(mic or instr).
I have an M-Audio mobilpre USB and am having unacceptable latency probs.
everything as suggested has been done.
    GB-Mobilepre-up to latest rev-driver etc...
last try was all monitors off-only 1 track-optimized buffer for speed.
    I have a 1.2gig pros-1.62gig ram on a g4.
could it be that its just the fact of USB as opposed to firewire?
    any guesses?
    thanx
    cheers,

"be you USB or be you fire wire"
I am using a simple setup:
Small unpowered mixer connected to my iBook via iMic. (USB 2 connection)
For MIDI: I have a Keystation 49e (direct USB) and a Yamaha PSR 520 connected via MIDIMAN usb 1x1.
I do not plug my headphones into the iMic because the latency was noticeable. I only use the iMic for input. I plug the headphones into my headphone jack and turn on monitoring in each track I am recording live. The latency is barely, barely noticeable.
You have an even better option via zero latency monitoring. If you can't get past the latency then you will have to monitor using the Mobile Pre. See your manual for details.
I believe my performance (including latency time) has improved since running the sessions from my firewire external drive. My drive is a Lacie 160GB, 7200rpm, 8M cache firewire drive. In addition to freeing up memory on the hardrive on my iBook, the faster spinning drive seems to boost my performance as well.
In a recent session a bass guitarist noticed annoying latency. I realized I had a cpu intensive plugin enabled. Turning the effect off removed the latency problem.
While running Garageband make sure no other tasks are running, such as indexing. File vault is also a performance killer and I finally turned it off.

  • M-Audio FastTrack USB recording isn't working?

M-Audio FastTrack USB recording- I installed it, and am trying to record sound through my keyboard. I can hear the sound through my headphones, and Audition recognizes  the device, ( I have the input set to Mono > Line In 1 FastTrack) but not the sound. The level bar won't move or anything. I have no clue why this isn't working and I've been messing with it for hours so I'd really appriciate some help!

Since this behavior usually indicates an interruption in the communication between Audition and the audio driver, I wonder if a "force driver reload" button would help. I'm not sure if the application can automatically sense this state since there appears to be enough of a data stream to make it appear as if things are ok.
Either way, it's something that needs investigation.

    Hi Stephen21,
If they don't provide an update for your interface, it looks like there will be no way to have it work..
+Speedio support will not be offered for the new Intel Macs. However, Novation will continue to support Speedio on all other currently supported platforms. For the latest drivers and documentation, please visit the downloads area on our website:+

  • Sound plays through Matrox MX02 instead of Komplete Audio 6 USB Device =(

In Adobe Premire Pro CC I can't use my NI Komplete Audio 6 usb device for playback. Instead sound always comes out of my Matrox MX02 when I'm scrubbing or playing.
Under Preferences -> Audio Hardware -> Default Device I have selected Komplete Audio 6. When I hit ASIO settings it brings up the expected Komplete Audio 6 Control Panel.
Under Preferences -> Playback -> Audio Device I see options for Adobe DV, Adobe Desktop Audio, and Matrox Player but no Komplete Audio 6.
My system is a custom built Windows7 PC. Any advice on getting sound out of my Komplete Audio 6 instead of the Matrox MX02 would be much appreciated!

the komplete audio 6 seems more problematic than expected.
Preferences -> Audio Hardware -> Default Device -> Premiere Pro WDM Sound causes stuttery playback. I've tried enabling/disableing "Device 32-bit Playback" under ASIO settings and I've also ensured that the buffer size (256 samples) is the same as in my Komplete Audio 6 Control Panel.
Preferences -> Audio Hardware -> Default Device -> Komplete Audio 6 audio playback is fine but if I alt-tab away from PPCS6 the application will freeze as I describe in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5412540#5412540 ...
I'm running the latest driver/control pannel from Native Instruments (3.1.0) and the latest firmware has been flashed to the Komplete Audio 6 (45).

  • I am wanting in input audio to a MacBook Pro  running 10.9.4.  Since there is only the internal microphone as an input choice, how do I accomplish this?

I am wanting in input audio to a MacBook Pro  running 10.9.4.  Since there is only the internal microphone as an input choice, how do I accomplish this?

Not something I've ever done, but I found a 9-year-old article from MacWorld -> http://www.macworld.com/article/1041790/tapetocd.html - that explains it a bit. Apparently the only software that you need is GarageBand and a hardware interface. Just Google "copy audio cassette to mac" and you'll get tons of hits.

  • Can MacBook Pro output digital audio via usb?

I'd like to output digital audio via usb. Can it be done from iTunes? This would allow me to go directly to my dac and then to my preamp.
    Thanks.

Russell, there are quite a variety of devices that accept digital audio over USB from any mac with a USB port - see http://www.trendsaudio.com/EN/Product/USBAudiodesc.htm for one example.
Try a google on MAC USB Audio OUTPUT any you should pop up some useful options.

  • Displayport audio vs USB audio

I have pre-Thunderbolt 27 display that is offering my 2011 Mac Mini 2 audio options : Display Port vs USB audio
Now, I beleive if I will have to plug in the USB cable either way, to ge the USB hub, microphone, camera to work.
So I don't believe I can necessarily save the USB port (if I could, then why would there be Thunderbolt?).
What I want to know is there any advantage to using Display Audio over USB ?
    - Is the sound any better ?
    - When I am using USB networking for other purposes, will Display Audio have less USB bus contention and play better ?
    - Similar as above, when playing music over Display Port, will my USB devices be faster due to less contention ?
I am leaning towards Display Port audio unless someone can give a definitive answer
    Thanks.

You say 'no', but then why did they add the option on the Mac Mini? ie It wasn't to free the USB connector,  as that is still used anyhow for the camera, mic, usb hub and software updates.
Software updates?  Not sure what that has to do with this.  But anyhow I have a mac pro with a 27" mini-displayport apple display and both options are available too.  It has nothing to do with power (I'm certainly not underpowered).  It's simply that those ports are available audio out devices.
On my old Macbook Pro, when viewing live video from my Hauppagauge HDPVR via a different USB port on the Mac (not the screen), the sound was sometimes choppy if I was doing other tasks as well.
You machine has its limits in processing power and is probably having trouble using too many processor intensive processes.  Use your Activity Monitor to see which processes are using large amounts of cpu time.
The display has a USB hub that chains of the USB port, so if have other devices working like my external USB Bluray drive, then I think there could be contention when using that also when reading/writing.
Contention is managed everywhere; hard drives, usb buss, fireware buss,  pci buss, memory buss, and any others I can't think of at the moment.  You're splitting hairs worrying about sending audio to usb ports which is a blip on the overall processing of generating that audio in the first place.  In other words its the processes and efficiency of your machine that are a bootleneck.
So I am really hoping someone will confirm that the audio data was moved to the mini-display plug to provide more bandwidth via the USB controller, or to guarantee bandwidth for consistent audio.
    Good luck with that.
