Input level very low

Anyone else have trouble hearing or being heard with the MBP suing iChat?
I can barely hear the other person during a video chat. Or audio chat. And volume is all the way up on both of us. And they can barely hear me on their MacBook?
Playing iTunes is fine. iChat is so low it's almost unusable

Hi music,
Go to System Preferences- Sound- and click on the Imput button. Make sure the slider for Imput volume is set where you prefer it.

  • Fast Track: guitar input level very low

I have a new M-Audio Fast track USB. I have set macbook pro audio input and output
to Fast track, and also set GB Preferences Audio/MIDI input and output to Fast track. Voice recording with XLR mic input is fine, but when I plug my Fender Tele
into the 1/4" jack with its volume on max, and GB recording level on max, the result is very low level... the GB waveform is almost imperceptible. Suggestions anyone?

09 wouldn't be any different it's the fast track. Many people have mentioned the low record levels with the fast track usb. Most of the time it is with mic not instrument. You could probably add some AU plugin to boost the recorded signal or turn the virtual amps. Or put a eq, compressor or some pedal that can add gain between the guitar and fast track.

  • Help : input level too low in Logic from studioKonnekt 48

I tried to record and use some voice microphone and some guitars (telecatser, some preamplified acoustic flattop, some archtops with humbucker or P90...)with Logic and SK 48 TC near.
If the voice setting with the gain trim at 12 were OK or even tooo loud, I NEVER succeeded to raise a level higher (lower..) than - 30 Db and this with the gain trip at the maximum and the main output at the maximum level...This dosen't allow me to work properly. I've tried different entries (1 to 4) than the line inputs and so on..
TC wrote me that they have -62 db in preamp but I could not succeed to raise a workable level.
Situation is quite different when I use a guitar pream (Radial PZ-Pre) or a Para acoustic DI from LR bagss.
Today, I've tried with a bass direct into SK 48, trough the preamp ...but the signal in Logic stayed absolutely loww while the screen indicator of the SK48 hardware showed me enough gain (orange to red)
I a not expert in both audioinyterfaces and Logic. I do not find in Logic how to increase the input gain from the audio interface...
Any help would be more than appreciated...since I have spent days and days to undertsnad and try...and finally I did not record anything since I have this new gears..So, I feel disapointed..
    Ciao
    Chris

+"I do not find in Logic how to increase the input gain from the audio interface..."+
You don't (apart from the level fader of the Record Track, of course).
You can adjust input levels in +Audio MIDI Setup,+ but when I suggested checking there you replied: +"Thanks a lot, but everything is weel set up ???"+
So you need to look at the software that controls your interface.

  • Vibrate levels very low on iPhone 6

I just got the iPhone 6 (IOS 8.1.2). The vibrate alert level for this phone is very low. I previously had the iPhone 5 and it was loud enough, that I could "hear" it when it was vibrating (when placed on a table or in my pocket). With the iPhone 6, I am hardly able to feel it and when placed on a table, i can hardly hear it when it vibrate. I have played around with all the vibrate settings an even created a custom vibrate tone. This is a let-down with the iPhone-6

This is unacceptable. All the previous phones wanted to jump out of your hand. Had to laugh at the suggestions of some ( Must be Apple stock holders). Changing your ringtone back and forth is a pain, that's what the vibrating feature is for. Hard to believe this got past testing. Dear Apple, we, your customers, are NOT beta testers. This should not be an issue. Knowing it is likely a mechanical problem, I see no simple fix.

  • Input level too low

I'm trying to record audio from my guitar via an M-Audio Fasttrack guitar / mic recording interface. All levels are at 100%, but the recording is far too silent. (Instead, the metronome is recorded…)
Any idea what I could do?
    Thanks a lot!

Check Garageband > Preferences > audio midi / input. My guess is you are still using the built in mic as input.

  • Envy X2: Sound Levels Very Low on Keyboard Headphone Jack ...

... much louder/OK on headphone jack on the tablet when disconnected from keyboard. Is there a fix ? I've loaded the latest audio drivers. Also, seems like Beats doesn't "kick in" even though it's checked as ON in the Beats control panel. I can click it on and off and tell a noticeable improvement as if Beats wasn't on at all even though it was checked.
    Any ideas ?

Yeah the sound is defective, I have already bitched about it, they seem to not care, I don't think they can do anything about it, it's just designed not to have good sound or even decent sound,  the thing is to thin to allow for decent sound, they went for Form over function.
Also i think it uses a low cost horrible chipset, L2s Intel reltek Audio chipset, that would not be able to provide decent sound even in a full sized notebook, but  not that I would know they wont tell us anything.
It's a nice Prototype device that needed more work before it was sold, the only thing that lets it down badly is the sound in my Opinion, that and dieing on me just after 30 days of ownership, maybe I can swap it for something that works ????

  • Profire 2626 rear inputs VERY low levels

Several months ago purchased a MACBook Pro + Profire 2626 Audio interface to complete my digital home recording project. Initially spent my spare time getting familiar with the setup & made some attempts to record a basic track, with NO success.
Now I've got a bit more time & started to really focus on recording my first project, ALL attempts to far...No success.
The primary root of my problem is the rear Audio recording levels...are very LOW, on a scale of 10, levels = .5, I've turned up all levels on the audio interface + mixer dials. Routing Analog 1/2 = 7/8. 2 x Front input levels seems fine.
I'm a musisician + fairly computer savvy, recording is new to me. however, this has totally mistified me. Reviewed several forum posting but did not see any obvious solution.
Several forum posting's point to the Profire 2626 Audio interface. I'm confident a savvy & experineced recording artist has a solution. Any assistance would be gretaly appreciated..
    Components spec's:
    MACBook Pro
    - 2.66ghz
    - 4GB RAm
    - OS= 10.6.8
    Logic Express 9
    -9.1.5 (1700.9) 32bit
    M-Audio Profire 2626
    -Firmware: 1.0.10
    -Software: 2.3.1.

    Hi.
I have had input level problems ever since I bought my iO 26 interface too with Logic Express 9. Here are 2 things I do which might help you. In Inserts go to EQ, Channel-EQ has a Master Gain on the left. I raise it to what I need. Another way I do it is to pull up Gain in Utility and raise the volume there. There might be a better way to do it but I have not found it. I hope this helps.

  • Why would audio input level go very low?

I'm sure I've done something dumb but I can't work out what it is. I'm recording with a mic into my laptop and the sound is really quiet.
I've used this set-up loads of times without this problem: Audition CC, Rode shotgun videomic into MacBook Pro.
Anyone know why the volume would now be so low please?

    ben.bland wrote:
In Audio Midi Setup the levels are greyed out, and in any case set high, at "Value = 0.917" and "dB = 10".
We can rule this one out straight away - MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) has nothing whatsoever to do with this!
Likewise, in Preferences > Sound the input level is near the top.
I think that you need to find out what the input socket thinks it's doing here. What Bob is suggesting is that if it's a dual-purpose socket (ie it doubles up as either a line, or a mic, input), it's stuck on Line. And that's no good for a mic - far too insensitive. We're both a bit stuck at this point though, because it's a Mac you've got, and neither of us uses those...

  • Want to connect an older Amplifier to AEX. Input data is 200mV for the amp. When I connect sound level is very low. What is output on AEX?

Want to connect an older amplifier to AEX. Input (AUX)data is 200mV. The soundlevel is very low. What is output from AEX? Phono input is 2,5mV and gives too high soundlevel as well as a strange sound(Isuppose some preamp is there)
Anyone to give some good ideas?

The analog output of the AirPort Express is approximately the same as a CD player. It is definitely compatible with a millivolt input. Don't use a phono input.
Make sure the master volume in iTunes is at its maximum setting. Remote speakers can have their own volume setting in iTunes, so check that also:
    Try another audio cable.

  • IRig input level for vocal mic extremely low

    Hi All,
I have ben merrily using my iRig and Garageband for Ipad to record instrumental tracks with no problem, but recently decided to try and add vocals. Just to test it out I bought an imitation SM58 style dynamic mic, with an XLR to jack lead so I could use the iRig, however when I go to use it, the audio/input level for the mic is VERY low - any ideas as to why this might be? I've turned the track volume and input up to maximum but it's still barely audible. Suspect it might be the mic, so tempted to spend some real money on a condenser mic, but worried I will get the same result. Are there any alternatives / success stories with recording vocals through Garageband, and what are you using?
    Thanks
    Nick

I have used the Shure SM58 and many microphones similar to it in studio and live settings, and that microphone requires what is called Phantom Power when it is run through a mixing board. In a nutshell, Phantom Power runs 48 volts on the channel the microphone is in, because that microphone only sends a passive signal and it needs to be powered. So the reason your microphone would put out such a low level would probably be because there's not a substantial for your iRig to pick up, even at maximum gain. I would look into purchasing a phantom power unit or some other preamp that you can put between your iRig and microphone.

  • Microphone/ very LOW level / bad records

    hi
i want to record simple voices into my G5-Dual 1.8GHz - but in every application (iMovie, FinalCut, Garageband, Quicktime) there is a very LOW audio-recording-level and i can't get a clear signal. the level controller at the audio interface is set to MAX-Input.
I'm using the TASCAM US122 audio-interface and different microphones (Bus Powered).
testdrive with other mics and a brandnew interface (TAPCO/Mackie Link.USB)
result the same bad recordings at lowest level.
    1. Audio/MIDI configuration is set to the audio interface/s.
    2. System-Audio Preferences are set to the audio-interface/s
    3. Deleting the Audio/MIDI-preference-files within the Pref-Folder will take NO CHANGES.
    4. Application-Preferences are set to the audio-interface/s
    Thanks for any ideas.
    regards mike

i've checked the different mics with phantom power turned ON (with new battery) To testdrive the mics i've connected and checked them all with my acoustic-amp. They are ALL working well there.
next i've tried a brand new USB-Audio-Interface (with Mackie Preamps)
connect it with my G5 and... got the same bad records like the cheaper TASCAM.
Once more i think the G5 has an error - maybe the USB-ports?
    (I've tried every USB-port).
    Should i buy and try a FIREWIRE-interface?

  • M-Audio FastTrack USB - very low signal level (line/guitar)

I've used FastTrack USB for a couple of years with a microphone through the XLR input with no problems. Now I am trying to connect a line output of a synthesizer to the line input of the FastTrack and the signal level is very low. There is no noise, it's just quiet, even with the track volume all the way up it's still no match for the rest of the tracks.
Any suggestions, except for trying all the knobs and switches on the face and back of the unit (tried that already)? Anybody has similar setup?
I use FastTrack for audio input, and built-in audio for output, it's connected through a hub (no problems for two years). In GB microphone is going to the Channel 1 (mono), and still works fine. Synthesizer goes to Channel 2 (mono) and is really quiet. I tried the syn with two different 1/4 cables with no difference. The headphones jack on the front of the FastTrack works fine with the normal level adjustment range, and if I plug in the headphones directly into the line out of my syn, I have sound, quiet (like you would get by connecting headphones to any line out, turntable even) but steady, so the syn must be fine.
    Any thoughts?

No takers. Hm. OK. After some more research on the Net it appears to be that all the Fast Tracks suffer from the same problem, which makes me believe that it's not a bug, but a feature of an unexplainable kind. Oh, well, back to my old iMic noisemaker (this one works, it's just screened very poorly, so it picks up all the possible interference, and also makes its own little nasty hiss--this is why I switched to the Fast Track a while ago--so I will need to cut it out with an EQ, again). Hopefully, the EQ surgery will not affect the synthesizer's sound consistency as severely as it use to do with a microphone.

  • My pc sound level is very low on playback from dvd and most websites even though its at 100 percent

the playback level on dvd and most video streams is very low.(youtube seems ok)This is my second pavillion g7 w/ windows 7 .The first had a defective fan but the sound level was ok and there was a graphic eq section for sound control with other output options.I've yet to find that area on this pc in the month I,ve had it even though their identical computers.I,m at a loss for the cause of the problem.Headphones work fine but are annoying.

i use professional studio monitors to monitor the audio
the issue , is if i turn up the audio it will clip on premieres main output.  so i cant turn it up any more.
the specific moment i took the screenshot the audio volume was at -18db, but even if it was up at 0db it would not even reach half volume on my computers main output
this is the case regardless of the nature of the audio, be it stock music, dialogue, or sound effects  maybe there is a hidden master output that im unaware of

  • Samson C01U usb mic/low input level

I recently bought a Samson C01U usb condenser mic to use with Garageband to record voice and piano for my music studio. When I plug it in, it is recognized in system preferences/Sound. But when I try to record in Garageband, the input level monitor barely responds. I've selected Mono 1, as advised by tech support at Samson. I can't figure out why this mic isn't working, since it's recommended for this exact purpose. I don't think I should need a pre amp, but now am wondering if I do. I'd be so grateful for any advice.
    KM

You know, the Samson C01U worked ok with the SoftPre software from Samsontech under Tiger. The input levels could be bumped up sufficiently for the **** thing to actually work even if the input signal was still on the low side.
Since SoftPre doesn't work with Leopard, the C01U is basically an expensive paperweight.
Since Samsontech seem incapable of getting their act together in putting out an operational Leopard compatible SoftPre software release, my advice to the wider Mac community is to BOYCOTT THEM! If Samsontech aren't receptive to consumer needs and flexible enough to act accordingly when the OS is updated, they deserve to suffer the commercial consequences - period!
I'm looking forward to the liberating ritual of taking a giant sledgehammer and obliterating my now useless, overpriced Samson C01U. It's going to be awesome !
