Input Menu reset to default.

Hi there
I'm using to input languages (US and Arabic - PC ), but sometimes the Input Menu reset to default (British) !!!!
I don't know exactly when it reset, I thought it happened when I log off or when restart the machine but that was false, sometimes I restart and log off many times and the input menu doesn't change.
Any ideas ?????
Thanks

Same problem here. Since a couple of weeks, my Mac looses the input menu settings when booting. I cannot reproduce this problem consistently. It seems that the settings are deleted just randomly when booting at about 1 in 10 reboots.
Could it be that the problem was introduced with OS X 10.5.4?

  • Input Menu Reset to US after computer restart

My input menu rest to "US" most of the time after the recent OS X upgrade.
This is very strange cos my mac is an Australian one, it was always appearing as an Australian flag at the top before. I am feeling so frustrated now to have reset that back to Australian and one of the Chinese input.
    Is there any work-around?
    Does Apple notice this?

    Hi Tom
thanks for your reply. but I have done what you said. the problem is my setting doesn't STAY....at least for long.....
I basically will need to do "Go to system preferences/international/input menu, check Australia and Chinese (Jianyi) boxes then uncheck US" 3 times a week. Strange thing is the problem doesn't happen everyday or everytime I power cycle my MBP. I failed to find out the pattern of it although it happened for most 4-5 months. I am pretty certain to tell this happen after I have done an Mac OS X 10.5.x update in the beginning of this year.
I have 3 profiles in my MBP, Work, Personal and Administrator (not in use). My Input Menu are the same in Work and Personal. Both profiles are facing the same problem on input menu being reset.
Did I do anything wrong so the setting doesn't stay? I am hoping it's a user fault rather than a Mac OS X bug......
Is there anyone here facing similar issue?

  • Input menu changing my default keyboard layout-again.  Grrrr!

This same issue had come up years ago, and I no longer remember with certainty how it was fixed.  It just geared up its ugly head again.  Ever since I can remember, I've been using a custom keyboard layout, which I arbitrarily labeled "Cantabria", that lets me type in seven languages with an absolute minimum of key combos.  I only need a different keyboard layout for Cyrillic (Russian).
The problem is that, in the past few days or weeks, the system arbitrarily  changes my Input Menu to reflect one of the two US English keyboards as the active one, either US or US Extended.  I can't see a pattern.  It just happens.  The Menu Input key combinations are duly disabled, so it's not my accidentally hitting Command+Space.
I thought the solution had been simply to UNcheck both US keyboard options in International, but now it seems you can't do that.  You have to have at least one of them selected.
Any ideas on how to stop this annoyance will be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

To my stunned amazement, I just found this other thread from last September with the same issue.  I had no memory of having posted then and I still have no independent recollection of it.  Major senior moment, darn!
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16121983#16121983
Strange that back then I was able to unselect both US English keyboard layouts and now I can't, on the same machine and same OS build.  I'll try deleting the files BDAqua mentions in that other thread.
In attenuating defense of my brain malfunction I can only offer that the other thread is dated the same day my second grandson was born.  My mind was obviously elsewhere.

  • I forgot to select "Show input menu in login options".

Hi. My problem is, I forgot to select "Show input menu in login options". My username and password is in English but my default keyboard is Arabic. Is there any way I can solve the problem? I can't use my laptop because I can't log in. Help!

See if you can find something in the Recovery Mode (You can go into recovery mode by holding Command+R during boot). Type 'resetpassword' in the terminal utility (You can get to the terminal utility by selecting the Utilities menu from the Menu bar).
Reset your password after you get a window when you type resetpassword and see if it works! When you are done, just reboot your computer

  • I have no navigation bar and firefox will not open in safe mode to reset to default config. Reinstalling doesn't work. Any help please.

I have no navigation bar ever since I closed it to gain more space on the screen. It won't re-open. Firefox will not open in safe mode, but opens immediately in normal mode with the new improper config, so I cannot reset to default config. I erased Firefox and re-installed and it still opens with the same faulty config. Why does Firefox not give me the safe mode dialog box, why can I not re-open the nav bar, and how can I do these two things, please? Firefox is currently unusable for me without a nav bar and without access to the default settings in safe mode. I cannot research the extensions I'm running since I have no nav bar to go to Tools, Add-ons, Extensions.

  • How can I reset the DEFAULT zoom view in Firefox at 125%, like IE, so I don't have to reset it every time ?

How can I reset the DEFAULT zoom view in Firefox at 125%, like IE, so I don't have to reset it every time ?
I have seen this question asked previously and it seems there is no answer.
I know that one can change each individual web page (that reset defaults back to 100%) and, alternatively and apparently one can load an add-on to fix the default size at Full Zoom.
... But any hints on how to achieve a DEFAULT 125% zoom would be much appreciated.

    Press CTRL + 0
Have you tried Firefox's zoom feature? Font size and zoom - increase the size of web pages
You can "zoom" all sites using this add-on: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2592/ NoSquint]. After setting your global zoom level, you can still fine-tune the zoom on individual sites.
After installing NoSquint, click the % on the Add-on Bar to call up site preferences, then click the Global Settings button, then the Zooming tab.
If you don't have the Add-on Bar displayed, you can right-click the new tab button ("+") or a blank area of the tab bar to the right of it and choose Add-on Bar from the shortcut menu.
You can experiment with sizes larger than 125%, but I wouldn't go much higher than 150% unless you have a large high-resolution monitor.
If there are particular sites that still present a problem, feel free to post their URLs.
You can find more information about the zoom features Firefox offers in these articles:
[[Text zoom]] - For zooming text only
[[Page zoom]] - For zooming the whole page (including images etc.)

For Premiere Elements 11 and 12, you cannot change its default project preset from NTSC AVCHD Full HD1080i30 or its PAL counterpart PAL AVCHD Full HD1080i25 to something else.
For each project, you can set the project preset manually if you do not want the program to take over setting the project preset based
on the properties of the first drag to the Timeline.
To set the project preset manually, open the project to the Expert workspace, go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings.
In the Change Settings area, change the project preset. Before you exit that area, be sure to have a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project" in the new project dialog.
Then you import your source media, using the appropriate Add Media choice.

If you want a version of Premiere Elements that uses the default project preset of NTSC DV Standard or its PAL counterpart PAL DV Standard, then you need to look to a version of Premiere Elements earlier than 11.

  • • Characters panel is reset to default when touching "tabulations" in old table (CS5)

    Hello -
Colleagues of mine complain about Illustrator CC (17.1) and old CS5 tables.
We recently made the upgrade to CC (coming from CS5).
And we noticed strange behavior when we open a file within tables.
When we try to modify the tabulations inside an existing table (array), well the "characters" panel is reset to default (leading, H/V scales, baseline shift, kerning, … are lost).
    Is this a bug?
Or is there a logical reason?
How could we avoid this (ie. that the table stay formatted as it is), because we have thousand of such "old" tables in our .AI documents.
    Thank you for any input.
    Have a nice day…

  • Language Input Menu

I have selected two languages in International Preferences, set up commad-spacebar keyboard shortcut, and made english the top language, yet I constantly find that the language had changed in the input menu without me selecting the change.
I could only see it happening once, upon opening the Helper application. all other times I was not aware when it actually changed, only once already changed.
What is happening and how can I set it to change only with keyboard shortcut or electing input menu?

Thank you so much for responding. I have opened everything I see on the desktop. Including the small icons near the bottom and top. I have done a search on the words you have provided. I have yet to find "sytemeinstellungen". I have located some "....einstellung" places but they are for the printer, internet, font settings etc. I did find "tastatureinstellungen" and a list of countries came up with flag icons. USA was not highlighted so I selected England. That selection included the USA also. I reset the mac and everything is the same. I think it has to do with the keyboard. Not sure what that changed. I believe I am using OS 8.6. Any other thoughts or suggestions.

  • Bookmarks lost with new version. Reset to default. Located old bookmarks but will not open-needs program.

I automatically updated to the newest Firefox version. My bookmarks were lost. I had two profiles. I tried to return to the Old? profile. I then reset the profile to default. I searched for my old bookmarks and found the bookmarks, but when I clicked on a previous date, the program asked which program would I use to open? I tried MsWord but it wouldn't open. I forgot how I found the old bookmarks.
Please tell me 1. How to find the old Bookmarks
    2. How to download them.
    3. Can I download the bookmarks from a saved data file from my mirror backups.
    4. Can I save the bookmarks in a data file in case this occurs again?
    5. Did Resetting to default erase the bookmarks?
    Thank you ,Robin

To address some of your other questions:
Firefox's Reset feature is designed to retain your bookmarks. However, if your disk is very full or your bookmark backups were empty or unreadable, the Reset may leave you with no bookmarks.
After a Reset, your previously active profile folder is moved to your desktop and placed in a folder named Old Firefox Data. Please check in there for a folder named bookmarkbackups.
If you also had an inactive profile folder, to check in there, you can paste this in the Start menu search box and press Enter:
    %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
Hopefully your missing bookmarks are in one of those two places.
Please do not delete any old profile data until you are sure you've recovered everything you need.

  • How do I reset to default state when there is no icon to click?

Firefox is slow and crashes a lot. So I went to the Help menu that told me to reset to default state, but there is no icon in the upper right corner of the screen and all it keeps doing is telling me to reset and I can't reset it

    Hi Odattbrett,
Sorry for the confusion! Does your device have a physical menu button below the screen? If it does, Firefox will automatically hide the 'three dots' menu icon that would normally be at the top of the screen - because pressing the menu button on your device should bring up the menu instead. This helpful article has more information:
[[Firefox menu icon is missing on Android - how to access the menu]]
Also, doubly sorry to hear that Firefox is running slowly! :(
A good way to try to fox this would be by uninstalling Firefox and then installing it again. Doing this would give you a completely fresh start (all your history, bookmarks, passwords and extensions would be removed). To uninstall and reinstall Firefox:
    # Open your device's Settings screen (you might be able to find this by swiping down from the top of the screen, or look for the settings icon on your device's main menu)
    # Press ''Apps'' and then swipe from right to left until you reach the ''All'' section
    # Firefox should be near the top of the list. Press it and on the next screen press ''Uninstall''
    # Go back to your device's main menu. Open ''Google Play'', search for and install Firefox.
I hope this helps. Reply to let us know if the problem is fixed!

  • My computer isn't letting me reset my default keychain.

    Hi.
Ever since i updated to mavericks i've been having these odd problems with my kechain.
I looked up how to reset my default keychain, and now my compiuter isn't letting me do that!
Whenever I click "reset default keychain" I get an error message saying "UNIX[Invalid argument]"
    Please Help!

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box markedAllow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use  another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Firefox Crashing/Freezing Constantly and Resetting to Defaults

For the past few weeks, I have been having a lot of issues with Firefox crashing. Every time I try to open up a new tab or load a web page it will freeze. Sometimes this is only for a few minutes, while other times this lasts up to an hour and I have no choice but to close the program out using the task manager, as any attempts to close it normally fail. This is most prevalent within the first few minutes after I launch Firefox, and the program has been slow in this regard for quite a while, though usable after waiting a few minutes for it to fully load. As I stated though, for the past few weeks it has been completely locking up and crashing when this happens, and it continues to happen after I have already loaded web pages and try to open new ones.
I tried a complete fresh install, and the problem was fixed for a few days, however, after going for a couple of days without internet access and trying to get online again, the problem returned even worse than before. More than that, now from time to time my Firefox completely resets to default settings, clearing out my "New Tab" page's pinned tabs, as well as removing whichever theme I had applied.
This glitch has rapidly made Firefox unusable for me, which makes me very upset as I far prefer it to Google Chrome. While I don't know that it would help discern the issue, below is also a list of all the extensions I have installed as well as the plugins I have that are always active, (with all my other plugins either being disabled or "ask to activate"). With the exception of "Adblock Edge", I have had all the extensions installed for several months with no issues. "Adblock Edge" itself I only installed after uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox to try and fix my issue. My current Firefox version is 35.
    Extensions:
    Adblock Edge 2.1.7
    DownloadHelper 4.9.24
    Private Tab 0.1.7.3
    Adblock Plus 2.6.7
    Plug Ins:
    Shockwave Flash 16.0.0.296
    Unity Player 4.6.1.51269
