Input method configuration keeps disappearing

My IM configuration does not always seem to persist a reboot. I show the input menu in the menu bar and my default IM is Canadian English. I also use a few more option, such as Keyboard Viewer, ITABC Pinyin and one custom.
Every now and then, and I don't think that it only happens during a reboot, all my configuration just disappears and default back to Canadian English. Keyboard Viewer and all other selected IMs are gone from the input menu.
In the system.log I'm also seeing:
<hr>
sendQuitEventToApp (Simplified Chinese): AESendMessage returned error -1712
and
ERROR | -\[ApplicationManager quitPrivateProcesses\] | Application "Simplified Chinese" did not respond to quit event
<hr>
So it makes me wonder if it's just the Simplified Chinese IM that's crashing and wiping the rest of the configuration with it.
I never had this problem in Tiger (10.4.7 - 10.4.10)
Anyone else having similar problems?

You should be able to click on "Keyboard Shortcuts..." button, right?
When you do, you'll get to that menu pane. There will be a list of shortcuts with checkboxes.
You might have to check "Input menu" to get its choices active.
The reason you have a yellow alert exclamation point triangle is that you are using the shortcut for previous input source (command-space) for another shortcut. That's why the behavior is happening.
That should fix your shortcut problem. However, I'm stumped about why you can't decheck Kotoeri. What about if you go to International preference pane, choose the "Language" tab and choose "Edit List" to simply remove Japanese? Or do you use it at all?

  • How can I keep my original keyboard mapping in different input methods?

    Hi!
i have a question about my keyboard mapping. my powerbook has a german keyboard. and i switch frequently my input methods between german and simplified chinese(ITABC), which was all fine. but after upgrading to Leopard, when i switch to ITABC input method, my keyboard mapping changed along with this input method to chinese keyboard mapping! which annoys me a lot! this did not happen before when i was in Tiger!
could someone please tell me how to keep my original keyboard mapping (at least the alphabets) when i switch to ITABC?
    Thanks a lot!

in german input, the key "Y" and "Z" are opposite comparing with normal english keyboard. and in chinese input method, the "y" and "z" are mapped just as normal english keyboard.
what happens now is, in ITABC input method, "y" and "z" are mapped as normal english keyboard, which is not like that before when i was using tiger.
Thanks for the info! You should definitely ask about this on the Chinese-Mac list. Keyboard mapping with the Apple Chinese IM's has long been a problem, and is one reason many people are moving to QIM:
    http://www.yale.edu/chinesemac/pages/input_methods.html#other
I suspect something has changed in the Chinese IM with Leopard to mess this up for you, and it may not be fixable.

I tend to make my playlists right on my ipod. This did not happen for the last 2 years. Just started recently. Did get a new computer recently.

That is because you got a new computer. You can only sync all media from one syncing computer. You can sync from any computer to iPod using the manual method but that does not sync from iPod to computer.

  • Third-party applications and input method in OS 10.7

After updating to OS 10.7, the input method for Spell Catcher 10.4 does not load. Application functions in every way, except that I am am no longer able to utilize the interaction feature (i.e., can't paste from Spell Catcher to text file). What is the cause of the lost interaction feature? Who is responsible, Apple or Spell Catcher?

Spell Catcher is suspiciously silent about the input problem. The head of software development responded immediately to my first inquiries, and assured me that Sell Catcher is compatible with OS 10.7. I recall reading on the Spell Catcher site that the fault was with OS 10.7. Ultimately, the Spell Catcher official stopped communicating with me via email and references to the input problem disappeared from the web site.
I'm hoping that you're wrong about who is responsible, and that a 10.7 update will solve the problem. By the way, I experienced the same input problem after installing Grammarian Pro.

  • Create Input Method component

I need to make an Input Method for a language. It would function similar to that of the Kotoeri or Chinese components: namely after the inline input of some text, the desired Unicode glyph would be called. All of the references in the ADC pages presume I already have an input method, or can work with their example to make something like the Asian input methods. I do not want to start from scratch, but would ideally like to modify an existing component (swapping out existing data and dictionary entries with my own).
Curiously, I see that there was a session at the WWDC 07 that addresses the exact issue I'm inquiring about. Is this Input Method Kit something that will be available?

Below are critical observations that you need to be aware of:
    2. VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!! Personally, saving a file as .cin locked up my whole system, and I had to login as root in order to remove the file. I'll never do that again. Thus my note is "# INSTALLATION: save as a .inputplugin file and put ~/Library/Input Methods/
    # Once this is in the Input Methods file, you then enable the input method by going to the International keyboard
    # input module and selecting your input method just like a regular input method is selected.
    3. # If plain text, the file encoding must be Unicode (UTF-16) with or without an initial BOM (Byte Order Mark).
I made the edits using TextWrangler (http://www.barebones.com/products/TextWrangler/). This allows you to encode in UTF-16 (at the bottom of the file).
Also, there needs to be a mention of honor here to Tom Gewecke for his invaluable advice and support in correctly interpreting Apple's help sheet. Apple's sheet is almost correct, but the alerts above will keep you from creating a file that will crash your system like I did—twice.

  • When I put emails in my keep folder, they keep disappearing.  Any idea why?

When I move emails to my keep folder, they keep disappearing.  Help!

I have never heard of a "keep" folder. I assume that your "keep" folder is one that you created in an IMAP email account for saving emails. If it is a standard feature of your email provider who is the provider?
Do you have your email configured properly on the server or in the mail app? Do you use the Edit/Move feature in the mail app to put the email into that folder?

  • Why do I get "Select Input Method" dialog when trying to open tabs on some sites?

This is what I'm experiencing with Firefox mobile on an Android tablet.
On some sites, when I click a button which should open a new tab, I get the "Select Input Method" dialog box. First, I don't know why this dialog is popping up. Second, it is an empty dialog; there is nothing to select, only a heading that says "Select Input Method". When I touch the heading, I get another "Select Input Method" dialog, this time with "Android Keyboard" as the sole item to be selected. It is already selected. Touching it or backing up to dismiss it leaves me on the page I started on. Touching the original button which should open a new tab simply repeats the entire dialog sequence. Backing up from the original, empty dialog, does the same thing.
Once or twice, by magic or something, I was able to get the page to open the new tab. But I cannot confirm what sequence of selecting or backing up out of the dialogs may have led to the correct behavior.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    kbrosnan,
Thanks for the reply. Sorry it took so long to get back to you.
My wife is working on a project so I'm a little light on details. Apparently she figured out that her Javascript is calling ShowModalDialog and this was what was causing the Select Input Method dialog to open. I don't fully understand the details but she's looking for a different way to do this. I believe she said she subsequently found out that the Firefiox mobile browser doesn't support ShowModalDialog.
She's new to mobile web development (and I know nothing about it) so she's kind of feeling her way. If you have a good resource for how the FF Android mobile browser differs from the normal desktop browser, that wouldbe a big help, I think. Otherwise, thanks for you reply and she'll keep plugging away discovering what she needs to change in her program to make it work for mobile.
    Thanks.

  • Baggage Files keep disappearing

I am aware of the RH6 issue of the baggage files not being
able to be added the traditional way, and the user having to add
them manually in rhbag.apj file. I have done that and they do work
after that is done, but my problem is that they keep disappearing
after some time, and I will have to go in manually to add them
again. I add them, they work, and then after a couple days and a
couple compilations they are removed again and my link doesn't work
of course. Does anyone know a work-around to this, and how to make
them permanently stick? Or, am I to accept this nuisance and find a
different method for displaying these files? Any advice is greatly
    appreciated!
    Danni

I link to .pdf files from the TOC with no problem.
    Danni, you mention,
"...and the user having to add them manually in rhbag.apj
    file."
I always import baggage files in the RH explorer view, and I
let RH take care of the rhbag.apj file. (This is not to reject my
colleagues' advice to edit the file. It may be necessary. I haven't
    needed to do that.)
RH also keeps the baggage file list in a database table in
the .cpd file. It has a separate table for links to baggage files.
On the rare occasion when I have a problem, I discover an
error in the database table. For example, each topic and baggage
file has an ID number, and sometimes a file ID acquires a "minus"
sign. Normally that's a "missing file" flag, but RH can't reconcile
the database flag with the file's presence in the project folder.
Open a backup copy of the .cpd file in MS Access, go to
tables view and open the ones for baggage files. If you see a
negative topic or file ID, and you know the file is in the
project's Windows directory, delete the minus sign.
If you see entries for baggage files that you know are
obsolete, and you've removed them in RH and the project directory,
delete those entries. Save before you exit from Access.
Access may warn that you won't be able to save any changes
unless you convert the database file to your current version of
Access. I've ignored this warning and successfully saved changes.
On the other hand, I don't believe any harm would come from
    updating.
Temporarily change the name of the original cpd file and
substitute the revised copy with the correct file name.
Launch RH and open the project. The baggage files should be
straightened out, but if not, try importing the "missing" ones from
a location outside the project directory. (The corollary is that
you shouldn't try to import a baggage file that's already in the
project directory and may be in the rhbag.apj list as well. That's
    what sometimes confuses RH.)
Interestingly, when you import a file that RH previously
couldn't find, sometimes the import dialog says the baggage file is
already in the project, do you want to overwrite it? Just say yes.
Don't try to explain it, because RH can't tell you why it has to
overwrite a file that isn't there.
Of course, you have the option of going back to the original
.cpd file by removing the new one and renaming the old one.
Sometimes I start by making a copy of the entire project, but then
I have to label and remember which folder contains the version I
want to use later. Don't use the "recent projects" list in RH
unless you revised the project name for the copy.

  • Dock icons STILL keep disappearing.

There is a thread here that says 'SOLVED' but it was not solved for many people posting on that thread. Here is the URL for it:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7855781&#7855781
So, I have begun this new thread with the same topic. My dock icon (mail) keeps disappearing. It slides to the right then disappears. Moving the plist dock and db to the trash then rebooting does not fix this problem for me, nor many others on the initial thread. The problem is not specific to the 'mail' icon, other icons are affected as well.
My mail icon is a big deal, please help.

I have three macs that I use every day. I am so annoyed that I can't make any changes to the Dock icons on any of them, and I am sure it has something to do with MobileMe. I have turned off syncing the Dock but it still won't let me make any changes. I have tried the methods people have mentioned in various threads but none of it works.
When I make a change to the Dock, I am doing it for a reason. For Apple to have implemented code that would under any circumstances undo the change that I have made is ridiculous. Everything else about Leopard is great, but this is really, really frustrating and messing up my work groove.

  • Airport Express connected but keeps disappearing from itunes

    HI,
I have an airport express which is connected to some speakers and I'm using Airplay to stream music from Itunes to the speakers.
However the speakers keep disappearing from itunes.  If I reboot the Airport Express they reappear, then have a few hours will disappear again!
In all cases I can connect to the Airport using the configuration utility and I can ping the device, so I don't think it's a problem with the Wifi, just with Airplay.  Also the Airport express is only 4 meters from the Access Point.
I have two windows 7 machines, both using itunes (latest version) and a MAC - all machines have the same difficulty with the speakers intermittently disappearing.
Also on the network I have 2 x TVs and a Bowers and Wilkins Zeppelin - all working fine with Airplay.
The Airport Express is on version 7.5.2 and is using a static IP address.
    Any Thoughts anyone?

Did you disconnect the cable modem's power supply before re-connecting it and then attaching the AirPort Express device? Be sure to pull the power spike—don't just use an on/off switch.
On some older cable modems, it's necessary to leave the power cable unplugged for up to 12 hours or so.

  • Latin Language Input Method

Hi. I am looking for Input Method for Latin Language (language that still used in Roman Catholic Church). Microsoft provides this language in Office, but not in Windows 8(.1) via Control Panel in language input method. I cannot synchronize the input method
between Windows and Office as well as Indonesian, Italian, Thai, etc. I think many people still need this language to work with Ecclesial work such as daily prayer in Latin language or bible study. Is there any update for this language? If not, I ask Microsoft

    Hi marcellius.ac,
" Microsoft provides this language in Office, but not in Windows 8(.1) via Control Panel in language input method."
Do you mean there is nowhere to install the language or this specific language is not listed ?
Please refer to the following link to install the language package and configure it .

    One

I worked on Solaris 10 has long time, I write some articles or reports using StarOffice. In that time , the Chinese input methon has the Sun NewChuYin Input-method , I am very used to the input method. But when I upgrade the OS to Solaris Express 4/6.
