Input source disappears after restart or log out. How to fix it?

I use two input sources: U.S. and Russian-PC. But recently the Russian-PC started to disappear everytime I restart the iMac or just log out and log in back. Instead of Russian-PC there is Russian which is inconvinient to use. So I always have to open language and text preferences unchek Russian, check Russian-PC.
I have tried to change language preferences on root user but it did not help.
Does somebody know how to fix it?

Well Bababooey if you're comparing yourself to a Apple Genius Bar then you should already know my answer, your snarky remark get a snarky reply.  Why would I go to a salesperson to fix my computer problem when I can go directly go to the source itself.  I used to sell Apple computers over 8 years ago and was apple certified before the Genius bar existed. If I am to go about fixing an issue I can't fix on my own I will go to the source itself meaning Apple's programmers and developers - being UI UX Developer myself I know they should have QA'd all platforms and troubleshooted any arising issues.
This was also the first time in the 20 years I've been using a Mac that I even attempted to go on this forum which i thought would put me in connection with a certified Apple representative.  This turned out to be a complete waste of time just being a public forum with no Apple employee involved.  I was hoping to find a quick fix but in turn I was only frustrated with stupid responses such as yours that were in no way an answer to my original question.
BTW I fixed the issue on my own and without your help or Apples help. I'm glad if all forums point here regarding this issue because I now have the answer. The answer I was looking for from someone earlier was as simple as this {Download Maverick and reinstall the platform - it will take an hour to do but afterward 10.9.2 was installed and my computer is now able to shutdown and restart without having to do a hard boot.}  No more software update bar at top and no problems with my drive which I told both you and Grant - I know my computer better than you and I've probably been using them longer than you.
So again Babowa you were so wrong...... and I am right.
Again anyone having the same problem, I suggest reinstalling Maverick and you'll be suprised 10.9.2 will work fine.

  • Input sources change after restart

    Hello!
I changed my hard disk, and after reinstalling the system, I noticed that after restart the input source changes to US layout, when my and computer is set to Spanish ISO. I cloned my disk using SuperDuper! and everything went fine.
What can I do so the computer starts already in Spanish ISO, not US keyboard layout?
It is an iMac Late 2009, with Fusion Drive and 12 GB memory running Mavericks 10.9.5

I don't know how to fix it, but it's not just you. I've been seeing it for a couple weeks on a fresh install of Yosemite from a wiped SSD.
A little extra info, from my situation: when I installed Yosemite I incorrectly selected "US Extended" as the input source to use. Once installed I corrected it to the regular US keyboard, and added my usual Japanese input source. When I restart, both of those disappear and it reverts to US Extended.
So it's apparently storing the input source used during OS installation somewhere, and hauling that out when I restart. Why and where would it do that, I wonder?

  • Finder View options, won't stay set after restart or log out

I like to have my application and utility folders (in the finder side bar) open in icon view and arranged by name and my Home and Movies folder open in list view with files arranged by name.
Each time i log out of my computor or restart the view options i have mentioned are reset, which is extreamly frustrating.
I have also noticed that the finder window now opens in a small size in the middle of the screen rather than being aligned to the left hand side as like to have it set.
This problem has only occoured recently, i think after deleting some "relic" files using Cleanapp.
Any ideas on how i can sort this out greatly appreciated

I finally know what causes folders to lose their view settings - even if you have set them to "Always open in..." a particular view (but I do not know how to fix it).
The trigger is setting any window to "column" view. Try it.
    (1) Create a new folder, and set it to your preferred view (but not column view). Close the folder and re-open it to verify that it is in the view you have set. You can even set it to "Always open in..." that view, if you like (it doesn't matter).
    (2) Now open up any other finder window or folder, and switch it to column view. If it is already in column view, switch it to some other view and then back to column view.
    (3) Now go back to the folder you created in step 1 and open it. Presto: column view. (Aargh!)
I confirmed this with a helpful and sympathetic Apple support staffer at the Genius Bar in my local Apple Store. Unfortunately, he had no solution, but noted it as an apparent bug in the 10.7 finder.
This is an extremely reliable behavior, that I have confirmed on 5 different machines all running 10.7.2. It is also an extremely frustrating behavior that I hope Apple fixes soon.

P.S. I will copy this to similar threads where this is being discussed, in hopes that it is helpful. Sometimes understanding why something happens can make it a little less frustrating, even if you don't know how to fix it.

  • Local copy idisk folders added to sidebar disappear after restart

Folders from a local idisk copy added to the finder sidebar continually disappear after restart. Any idea how to prevent this?

    a workaround:
you can lock this file via command + i
    Library > Preferences > com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    to keep your sidebar setting,
    then reboot
    or
    open Terminal and write:
defaults write com.apple.finder QuitMenuItem 1 < this will add a Quit command to the Finder
    then:
    killall Finder
Quit the Finder via Command + Q every time you mount iDisk...
it works for me, use at your own risk

  • Macbook Pro will not shut down/restart/sleep/log out after Mountain Lion update

    Dear all,
I upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion yesterday and since then I have encountered a few issues:
    - The only way I can shut down my computer is to hold down the power button or entering commands in terminals. The commands under the Apple menu do not work at all. No window opens when I click on it.
    - The about this mac, force to quit, sleep, shut down and restart button, log out do not work.
    - When I restart my computer, it takes 3-4 minutes to log into the account (it used to be less than 1 minute, I have an SSD).
I have tried all of these solutions to solve the problem:
    - I created another user account and I do not encounter the same problems. It logs in quickly, can shut down etc.
    - I have repaired the disk and the disk authorisations using disk utility
    - I have cleaned up all caches and did maintenance using OnyX
    - I have cleaned up all ACL using terminal
    - I have never installed Kapersky (this was the cause of the problem for some people in the past)
I am starting to be a bit short on ideas. All I know is that there is a problem with my user account. I do not want to do a clean install as I have quite a lot of work stored on this user account and preferences that took me ages to set up. If I have to start fresh I will but I would rather avoid this extreme solution.
Has anyone else experienced such an issue? If yes, how did you solve it?
    Thank you very much

Had the same problem and this worked for me:
    Try deleting following two items:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.db
Make sure you take a screenshot of your current dock since deleting these files will reset your dock to default.
Now open terminal and do a sudo reboot w/ your password.
This solved the problem for me.

  • Cannot shut down restart or log out

    Hi,
My new macbook pro cannot shut down restart or log out. When click shut down restart or log out. it does NOTHING. no screen comes out, no window telling me that an application is stopping the shut down, just nothing. After I try several times to shut down, I can continue using my macbook normally as if I didnt try to shut down at all. What should I do? What is wrong?

What happens when you press the power button? It should bring up a dialog box asking if you want to Restart, Sleep, Cancel, or Shutdown.
Also, try it from the terminal prompt. The Terminal application is in the Utilities folder. The Utilities folder is in the Applications folder.
    Once you've launched Terminal, type:
    sudo shutdown -r now
Enter your login password when prompted.
    This should initiate a reboot.

  • Macbook refuses to shut down, restart or log out! :(

    Hi,
Ive been having the troubles of not being able to turn off, restart or log out my Macbook after not shutting it down for a while ( like 1 or 2 weeks just kept putting it to sleep when it is not in use ). When I tried to shut down or restart it, the top bar and everything else went off leaving ma dock behind, it then just froze and kept saying that it cant shut down due to some random application have failed to quit! (e.g most usually firefox and Finder) eventhough i have already quit all my applications!
Does anybody know what the problem is? Is this usual if you dont shut down your macbook for a couple of weeks? Please advice!
    Thank you very much,

    Hi
Holding down the power button for about 10 seconds will force the macbook to turn off. This is only recommended as an emergency measure.
When you restart, I recommend you download either Onyx or Leopard Cache Cleaner and use it to step through the various maintenance activities it offers, including deleting all stored cache files.
You should perform this maintenance once a month or so (although you don't need to routinely clear out the cache files).

  • Mountain Lion won't sleep, shut down, restart, or log out.

    Hi All,
After Mountain Lion my 2010 iMac 27" won't sleep, shut down, restart, or log out.
Basically most functionalities of clicking the apple icon are disabled - "About this Mac" doesn't work either.
    Please help!
Before Apple fixes this, is there another way of putting my Mac to sleep or shut down?

Just adding another voice to the chorus.  Since upgrading to Mountain Lion my computer will not sleep.  The cursor freezes when I try to invoke sleep but the computer and monitor remain on.  The cursor unfreezes when I tap the spacebar the way I would normally do to wake from sleep.  Fortunately, shutdown, restart and logout function normally, so I guess I should count my blessings.  This isn't my only problem with Mountain Lion, but I didn't want to muddy the waters on this thread with other issues.

You may have a bad track pad sensor.
    http://blog.w3conversions.com/2006/04/faulty-trackpad-sensor-in-powerbook/
Do NOT open the computer and detach the sensor. There’s no reason to. Here is the complete method for disabling the sensor:
Move (do not delete) the following extensions to a different location (a new folder outside the extensions folder). You’ll find them in your system/extensions folder:
    * IOI2CControllerPMU.kext
    * IOI2CLM7x.kext
    * AppleLM7x.kext
    * Extensions.kextcache
    * Extensions.mkext
Once moved, restart, and that little sensor will be disabled.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • After last upgrade Apple TV 3 blue dots not disappearing after podcast is watched. How do I fix?

After last upgrade Apple TV 3 blue dots not disappearing after podcast is watched. How do I get them to disappear like they always have?

That crash appears to be casued by the Facebook plug-in.
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts or Users & Groups on 10.7 and 10.8), make a new Library in that account, import some shots  and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

All of the mail on my iPad and iPhone disappeared after my outlook downloaded. How to I keep mail resident in both places?

I managed to lose an earlier reply I'd started before you came back with your "solved" so I didn't bother to retype it.
    It went something like this:
You should be able to recover the media with the tips in  this post from forum regular Zevoneer but I'm not sure what the implications are for your application settings. You can probably transfer your purchases into an authorised library, backup the device, recover any other media using third party tools, then restore the device from the backup.
The older .itl file is useful however as iTunes should see this as the "home" library for your device which will allow you to preserve the application settings. (.itl file? Mac? I assume the library has migrated from PC to Mac at some point). Any files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder or did you kill those as well? The most recent of these would be the best place to start.
And no, the .itl file is not editable by mortals...
Once you've restored the media from backups or recovered whatever else you useful can from the device, the scripts MusicFolder Files Not Added and Super Remove Dead Tracks should help get the library up to speed with the contents of the media folder.

This advice will sound like a joke or prank, but believe me it worked on my iPhone 5 and my daughter's.  The lens mechanism got stock on each of our iPhones.  We found a post on these message boards that said to hold the iPhone about 6 inches above a table or counter top and drop it so that it lands flat on it's back.  Now try the camera ...Fixed!  It has been more than six months now and neither of our iPhones have ever experienced the problem again.
