Inputing Contact Information

I am new to Blackberry and coming from Palm.  When Sprint transferred my contact over from my Treo (for some reason it wouldn't work for me), all of the information didn't transfer, and I am left going contact by contact to verify.  My question is this:
With Palm you could input all of the contact information into Palm Desktop and then sync it to the Treo and it would be there.  Is there a way to do that with the Tour also?  It would definitely make things easier.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Contrary to others who force you to use their desktop PIM to manage your data, RIM took the approach of letting you choose (from a limited list, naturally) your own PIM and RIM provides a connector to that PIM. Additionally, RIM provides a device switch wizard to move data from other SmartPhones to BB devices.
I suggest the following steps to get yourself set up (note -- this is for a PC...not a MAC). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
1) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
2) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
3) Install DTM to your PC
4) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
5) Configure for the organizer integration:

OR -- use the device switch wizard:
KB05459 How to use the Switch Device Wizard to switch from another smartphone to a BlackBerry smartphone
You should be able to use the software to either extract from your BB to your chosen PIM, from your old device to the BB, or a number of other things.

  • Status of Backup Assistant for Contact Information

    Can some one tell me (preferably a Verizon technical resource) the status of Backup Assistant for Contact Information?
    I upgraded to a new phone a few weeks ago, and when searching MyVerizon saw the availability of the "free" contact backup capability...     It is not really free for me, because I don't have a data/text plan, so I had to pay for the app download and sync text transfer.    I figured it would be worth a few dollars to have the backup capability and ability to enter data from a keyboard instead of the numeric pad (I have a flip phone without a qwerty keyboard).     The sync import of my phone's contact list worked fine, and I spent quite a bit of time updating addresses online...   However, the changes online were not exported back to my phone, so my  work added no value me.  
    I attempted to wait a few days to see if a regular update would resolve the problem...   Tried making a few updates today--the web application seemed buggier than a few weeks ago...  If I tried to input more that a one field, it refused to save the contact.   I could update by doing small updates and saving, but this was painful...   Tried several times to update the ICE contacts--they would appear to be OK, but after a save the changes were lost...
    Tried reading documentation to see if there was an explanation of how to download changes made online to phone...     Could find nothing other than instructions to download to a "new" phone...
    Came to the forum to see if there was a message here that would help me...   I was very disappointed to see that the Backup Assistant has apparently been "broken" for several weeks with no apparent resolution timeframe available.  
    As an IT guy, I was appalled that Verizon does not have anything on the web site that warns users that there is a problem with the site and gives an approximate resolution time for the problem.    This is always a priority for my group--make the users aware of the problem and give them status on resolution progress.  Verizon's lack of information has let me waste time and money trying to work with an application that is known to be broken.
    Key questions for me:
    1)  Can the cost of downloading backup assistant and the syncing be refunded to me?   (The service to date has only provides me with a frustrating online update experience with no benefit to me on my phone.)
    2)  When will the site be functioning with normal capability?
    3)  What is normal function?   Are the problems that I have had with updates due to the problem discussed in other posts or are they standard features of buggy code?
    4)  If the application were working normally, how would one do updates online and have those updates exported back to the phone?

    3)  What is normal function?   Are the problems that I have had with updates due to the problem discussed in other posts or are they standard features of buggy code?  It has worked as you expect it would, for me, in the past.  I have used it for years, actually, and been pleased, and recommended it to others.  The recent debacle is very disappointing.
    4)  If the application were working normally, how would one do updates online and have those updates exported back to the phone?  Normally, it would be automatically synced to your phone when you log out of the online service, and then a daily backup from your phone to the website would occur on the schedule you set.
    I am not a Verizon employee, I am simply a customer, satisfied for the most part with my service, and I like to help others.  This recent BA mess is not fun....and I hope it gets resolved very soon.

  • Contact Information in Self registration is read only

    I  have activated self registration but the contact information is greyed out during self registration. It just asks for Personal Information and proceeds with registration.
    Any inputs as to how to enable contact information, will be of great help.

  • Is it possible to a Calendar event from Contact information?

    Let's say I have a doctor's information in my Contacts. Rather than 'recreate the wheel' and input all that information all over again in Calendar for a doctor's appointment, is there a way to create an appointment based on Contact information?
    Or, is there a way to copy and paste?

    also it would be nice to dial a fon number directly from a calendar entry, too.

        Hi macmac57. I don't memorize my numbers anymore, so I know how important it is to have all your contacts on your phone at all times. Did an update occur or a new application download when your contacts disappeared? Have you been backing up your device with your computer? You can try to restore your contacts from your last backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
    Are you syncing your iPhone between multiple computers? This can sometimes create issues with your contacts. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1474

  • How do I remove the shared link that's shares my contact information? I need to remove the link off all my contacts and not just on an individual basis. Somehow my boyfriends iPhone can see all of my contact information.

    Unshare my contact information so no one is able to see it.

    In addition my icloud is turned off and I also removed the shared linked off of my boyfriend's contact information on my phone but he still has access to all my contact information. I see the shared links in all my other contacts as well but I'm not sure if unlinking each contact will help. Is there another way to unshare the contact information?

  • IOS7 syncing with MS Outlook 2010 no longer syncs all the contact information

    With the new iOS7 on an iPhone 4s, syncing with MS Outlook 2010 on win XP, the phone no longer syncs all the contact information as it used to before I updated to iOS7 and iTunes 11.1, and now ignores the "Home" addresses I have on Outlook.  It also apprears to miss some other bits of information too, but the home addresses are key for when I am away from the computer. How can I resolve this syncing error? Thank you.

    The same thing is happening to me since upgradng to iOS7, although I am syncing contacts with Mac contacts, not Outlook.

    Try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons together for 10+ seconds, ignoring the red power-off slider, until you see the Apple logo. It is safe to do, there should be no content loss. It is the same as rebooting your computer.

    I changed computers today and logged into Verizon to set up Outlook Express on the new machine. all of my old emails are gone; as are my contact information. it had old stuff saved from three years ago but nothing recent. Help? how do i retreive my messages and contact info now?

    Anything in Outlook is stored on the individual computer. It will not be stored on the website anywhere. You would need to Export all your emails and contacts from your old computers outlook program. Then take the file it creates and Import them to your new computers Outlook.

    iCloud syncs your data across all devices, whatever you do on one will happen on all others. Hence to delete your contacts from iCloud, just delete it from any device or from iCloud.com.

    If you were using iCloud on your phone and have deleted them they have gone from everywhere. Did you have a back up and if so where.

    I have upgraded to the IOS 8.1 on my Iphone 4S. I recently noticed while I check my emails I can see read the senders phone number. There is even a prompt to add their contact information unto my phone. Is there a way in which I can block my contact information from others?

    As simply as I can manage this is the idea behind phone numbers and emails in iMessage. All of this is example only. Apply it to your personal situation. iPhones have phone sevice, iPads do not. Both can use iMessage but how if the iPad has no phone number? Via email. So from your iPhone you want to send a message to your brother who has an iPad so you would send it to his email. Apple's server then takes the message and says "hey that dudes iPad is using this email for iMessage" and sends the message to the device. Your brother then sends a message back from his iPad to your phone number. Apples server then says "hey that dude is using this phone number on his iPhone we'll send it there, but wait that number is also being use for iMessage on that iMac (Messages OS X 10.8.2) lets send it there too". And you receive the message on both your iPhone and iMac. The benefit of setting an email to recieve iMessage on your iPhone is if you have an iPod touch or iPad (they recieve at email) that you want to recieve the messages along with the iPhone. With that your brother and his iPad would send a message to your email, instead of your phone number, and the iPod, iPad, iPhone, Mac or any other device you have that can use iMessage will recieve the message from your brother.

  • Lost contact information in the last few days.

    When my daughter and I upgraded to smart phones from basic phones, we went to Backup Assistant to get our contacts.  We both got ALL contacts from both accounts.  She went in and deleted all the contact information she did not need (my stuff), but now I don't have that information on my phone.  Is it related to this information deletion, or is something new going on?  Is there a way to separate our contacts?  Also, she has a 5C and I have a 4S

    Yikes! We need to make sure you guys have your own contacts in your own phone. Do you two share the same Apple ID on both devices? If you sign into My Verizon, hover the mouse over 'My Verizon', Select Back up my contact, this should bring you into your contacts that are backed up from Backup Assistant. Are your contacts still listed there? Please keep us posted.
