Inquiry for Essbase certification.

Hi friends,
I would like to give Essbase certification by Dec 2011.
Please suggest me which version should I appear for(9 or 11).
Although I am working in Essbase for past 1 month, I am not dealing with great technical issues.
Its just I am supporting an application(hence not much R and D)
Also please give me some tips to crack the exam.

Unless you have some desperate need for the 9 certification, I would strongly recommend 11. Actually, the Oracle website says that the 9 path will be 'retired' in October 2011, so that probably gives you no choice.
EDIT: Was looking at exams again today, and noticed that the 9.0 path is slated for 'retirement' but not the 9.3 path.
I have no tips (never taken an Oracle exam) and there are no sample questions / test provided, but I would simply aim to be confident on all the topics covered - which Oracle provide in detail, for example: http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=&lang=&p_exam_id=1Z0_531

If you have only one month of exposure, you are going to have to work pretty hard to cover the material. At least you are in a position to get some hands-on experience, which is definitely the best way to learn. A support role may give you exposure to a lot of aspects covered in certification, although not all. Perhaps you can arrange access to a sandbox / DEV environment to play on.

Financial report for essbase and planning application

Can any one please explain me what is the difference between creating financial report for essbase application and planning application.
Considering we will have Essbase cube for the planning application

Correct, the data that is stored in Essbase will be the same regardless of which connection type you use.
Data that is only stored in Planning can only be retrieved using a Planning connection. This includes Supporting Detail and SmartLists as these are stored in the Planning relational database.
As a general rule I always use an Essbase connection unless i specifically want to get supporting detail or smartlists but that is just me.

Inquiry with reference to an Inquiry for Diff Sales Area

I want to create an Inquiry (for Sales Area 2: 0100 AA BB) with the reference of an Inquiry(Sales Area 1: 0100 CC BB).
Inquiry type is same for both inquiries. I'm done with following settings
Copy Control : Inquiry to Inquiry
Material: Extended in Sales Area 2.
Customer: Extended in Sales Area 2.
Both Sales Area's assigned to Inquiry type
Could you please suggest me if anything is missing OR the correct copy control setting for this scenario.

hi I think you can achive with creating new Copying requirements
use the reference of 002 (Header - diff customer)
In this they are checking
Is the sales org. the same in both reference and target?
Is the dist. channel the same in both reference and target?
Is the division the same in both reference and target?

How to use accumulate in file functinality for Essbase adapter

I need to load Head count file to a Planning application via FDM.
In which for a specific location i need to use "Accumulate in File" while loading data, which is not available for Essbase adapter.
Please some one help me to implement the functionality in FDM.

Use an Essbase Load Rule as the FDM method to load (Integration Setting --> Enable String Load) the data and in the Load Rule itself set the data optoion to 'Add to existing'

Smart View for Essbase Not Available in Planning Rapid Deployment

I have successfully deployed EPM 11.1.2.3 by following the steps in the Planning Rapid Deployment guide (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E40248_01/epm.1112/epm_planning_rapid_deploy/epm_planning_rapid_deploy.html). However, when I bring up Smart View using a Shared Connections URL of http://<servername>:9000/workspace/SmartViewProviders, I only get connections for Planning and for the Reporting and Analysis Framework. How can a I get a connection for Essbase?

As it turns out, the 11.1.2.3 Planning Rapid Deployment wizard doesn't install Essbase Provider Services, just Planning Provider Services and Reporting and Analysis Provider Services. Until I installed Essbase Provider Services, I wasn't even able to create a private connection to Essbase. I had to run InstallTool.cmd and select "Provider Services Web Application" from the Essbase section of the selection screen. I also had to run the configuration utility and select "Deploy to Application Server" under "Provider Services" in the Essbase section of the selection screen.
After that, I was able to create a private connection to Essbase with this URL: http://<server name>:9000/aps/APS
Although the private connection was now working, the Essbase connection was still not showing up as a shared connection in Excel, when I set the Excel Smart View option for Shared Connections URL to http://<server name>:9000/workspace/SmartViewProviders. I was able to get this working by running the configuration utility again and selecting "Configure Web Server" in the "Hyperion Foundation" section of the selection screen.
I was also able to create an XML file as Celvin suggested, using http://<server name>:9000/aps/APS for the Essbase connection. Thanks for the suggestion!

Default userid/password for Essbase 7.1.5

Hi All, I've just now upgraded to Essbase 7.1.5. At the time of installation I gave the 'NAME' as 'James Galt' and system password as 'password'. Earlier on every upgrade it used to recognize the old security file and I could login to a fresh upgrade using my old id/password. But this time it does seem to recognize the essbase.sec file. could somebody please let me know the default user-id password for version 7.1.5, so that I can atleast login and try creating some users. There's no such ting as a default user ID and password for Essbase. The system user ID and password is the one you create when you install Essbase. IF you want to reset and start from scratch, delete the essbase.sec file and launch essbase.exe from \essbase\bin. You will be prompted to enter a new user ID and password. Hint : it's not good practive to use someone's name as the system ID. BE aware of a couple of things if you do this, any users, filters, applications, etc you had we'll be gone and have to be re-created. If this was an upgrade from the previous version, upon install completion, you would run the essbase.exe and it would prompt you for the existing password. If it's not working, chances are you are using the wrong password. Remember, the system password might not be the same as the admin password. For instance at my location, when I did the upgrade I entered the admin password and it didn't work. I asked everyone and they said that was the only password. After digging little deeper I found that a couple of years ago it was determined the passwords were too generic so they changed them. While they changed the admin password, the system password stayed the same. After digging, I found out what the old password was and sure enough I was able to fire it up. If you don't have existing apps and users to worry about then just start fresh, but if you want to salvage what you had, then you will need to find the right password. One more thing, if you have Essbase running as a service, disable the service and run it in console mode until you get this straightened out. HTH

Time series functions are not working in OBIEE for ESSBASE data source

Hi All,
I am facing a problem in OBIEE as I am getting error messages for measure columns with Time series functions(Ago,ToDate and PeriodRolling) in both RPD and Answers.
Error is "Target database does not support Ago operation".
But I am aware of OBIEE supports Time Series functions for Essbase data source.
using Hyperion 9.3.1 as data source and obiee 11.1.1.5.0 as reporting tool.

Hi,
is because the time series function are not supported for the framentation content, see the content of the oracle support:
The error occurs due to the fact the fragmented data sources are used on some Time series measures. Time series measures (i.e. AGO) are not supported on fragmented data sources.
Confirmation is documented in the following guide - Creating and Administering the Business Model and Mapping Layer in an Oracle BI Repository > Process of Creating and Administering Dimensions
Ago or ToDate functionality is not supported on fragmented logical table sources. For more information, refer to “About Time Series Conversion Functions” on page 197.

Additional Hard Disk Space for Essbase 9.3.1

Essbase 9.3.1 is installed on a hard disk that does not have anymore space. Is it possible to utilize or configure another hard disk for Essbase to use? I'm loading Cubes (ASO) that are failing due to a tablespace error of disk space.
Any suggestions would be of great help.

You can specify some of the tablespace and I think temp space for an ASO cube by right clicking on the application in EAS and selecting edit properties. In there you can change the disk

Need Drivers for Essbase 9.3

Hi there,
I need to install essbase on Windows server 2003 however we don't have excel installed on our windows server.
when i try to install essbase client only essbase runtime client and essbase API got installed and it was not able to connect to remote essbase server.
Can anyone please provide me information regarding how to get the drivers for essbase.Or how to install Essbase client on Windows server 2003.
This is very urgent issue pls help....i am bugging the issue a lot.
I cannot contact essbase because i don't have user id etc .

What i am trying to do is to install essbase client in Business Object which is in Windows server 2003.Business Object access data from remote essbase cube.
So i need to install drivers or client in my windows server so that we will be able to connect to essbase cube.
In our BO guide it's mention that you need either Excel Add in or Runtime client to be installed in your Server.
I tried in my client machine it works but when i install the runtime client on server i try to connect to essbase cube it doesn't shows Essbase in Provider just like in case of Analysis Server it shows Microsoft OLEDB Provider for OLAP services 8.0,9.0 it does,nt show essbase.So there is somethingt wrong regarding installation.
Is there any issuus like we can't install essbase client on windows server 2003 and we have to install essbase server?How to resolve the issue?

I am 2014 MCA (Master of computer applications) Pass Out . I have completed my 6 months industrial training in SAP ABAP From an unauthorized institute (DUCAT ,Noida) while doing my MCA. But, now i am planning to do the SAP ABAP certification from an Authorized Study center like ATOS ,Delhi . I CHOOSE OLT(ONLINE TRAINING) FOR 3 MONTHS FROM ATOS , DELHI.
QUESTIONS:
1. How Complete scenario of online training going on like yes a candidate have to complete 200 hours of training and its a online process no instructor is provided as the candidate who register for the course have full excess for 3 months for study material or ppt provided online or is it for a stipulated time period ?
2. What Do's and Dont's a candidate have to follow while undergoing OLT ?
3. What Is the prerequisite for SAP ABAP Crtification through OLT like we know candidate must have a basic knowledge of any programming language.
but upto what extend ?
4. How much time a candidate must devote and how a candidate prepare a blue print or a time table for preparing for there certification exam as well as having in depth knowledge of ABAP.
Please Help to find the answers of the Above Questions .

Wow, that sounds like pretty bad service from your training centre. I would take my business elsewhere.
Anyway, I might be able to help a little questions 3 and 4. I did my ABAP certification a few years ago.

To learn ABAP you need to know programming basics. It's not much different to other languages. To become certified you need broad ABAP & SAP knowledge and (ideally) some real experience.
"4. How much time a candidate must devote and how a candidate prepare a blue print or a time table for preparing for there certification exam as well as having in depth knowledge of ABAP"
It took me about 6 months (part-time) of rereading the course notes, practicing on sample tests, and making up sample questions.

External authentication for Essbase 7.1.6.

Hi all,
We are trying to set up external authentication for Essbase 7.1.6. We have a customized version of Essbase which does not use DLL. we do not have a Hyperion Hub or any CSS set up. All we have is an authentication module from the vendor to be used instead of the DLL. As per the documents provided to us all we have to do is change the cfg file to include the AUTHENTICATIONMODULE setting. Does anyone has any experience with this? What all parameters do we need to pass to Active Directory for this to work? Please help.

You could create a maxl script that replaces the filters, when you call the maxl script you could pass in a variable such as YR08 and use that variable in the script.

Sybase iq data source for essbase

Hi,
We're trying to build cube from sybase IQ. Since I cannot find a specific SYBASE IQ driver, i used the sybase driver (ARase22.so) to create a SYBASE IQ data source in the odbc.ini file.
Below is the error message I got when tried to do a query using the above data source from a rules file: ODBC Layer Error: [57] ==> [[DataDirect][ODBC 20101 driver][20101]SQL Anywhere Error -143: Column '@@maxpagesize' not found].
Our system info: Essbase 931 on linux, Sybase IQ 15.1
Can anyone please advise.

I remember having used Sybase(as a SQL source) for Essbase in UNIX, few years ago.
Not sure if it's any different from Sybase IQ you are referring to? Are you stuck up some where?
