-Inquiry- NW2004S Installation on existing database.

Hi.. I need some advise.
If I already have oracle database 10.2  ( non SAP Application is using it now , many instances ) , can i use this database for the SAP installation ?
is it adviseable ?
Regards

from the technical point of view you can use this database. Maybe it is a question of performance.
But for a test system it should be OK

  • OEM Grid control 10.2.0.1 installation using existing database 10.2.0.3

    Hi,
I am planning to install oem grid control 10.2.0.1 using existing database 10.2.0.3 for storing repository on HP_UX 64 bit PARISC.
Can it be possible, If not whats the reason and what issues it may arise.
If it possibel can anyone explain me the correct steps and is it compulsory to take full backup(we cant take ful backup bcoz space issues)

Yes, you must download and install the 10.2.0.1 version and then patch it up to the 10.2.0.4 version.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe10gem/install/index.html
The above link shows you the install routine when using a new database, the steps for the existing database are only slightly different, all you need are the connection details for that existing database and you should be ok.
As for taking full backups of the Grid Control repository, I know many choose not to, space is always a big concern, but this depends on how critical your repository is to you. If you need it for the auditors, well then I'd suggest acquiring some more hard disks to up your space.

We have to dig deeper on this one. Can you check the SQL errorlogs for related information?
You must verify that the databases is working, have enough space, is healthy etc.
The logs should tell you if everything is allright.

  • Installation type new/existing database

    Hi
By accident, when we were doing an install of 10g r2 Oracle Enterprise
Manager on AIX 5.2, mistakenly chose 'create new database' instead of
'use existing database during the install. does anyone know how to
change this to 'use existing database' without reinstalling?
    Thanks

You could try export/import and then change the connection parameters in the emd.properties file to point to the existing database.

  • Reverse engineering for existing database

    Hi,
I have two different databases, one with my application (i.e. DB1), and the other with the designer installation (i.e.DB2).
I want to get the Reverse Engineering of my app in DB1, and I know these steps:
    - Design Editor> DB Admin tab> Generate> Capture design of > Server Model.
OK, but I get the "Create Database user" form, and the database and user name as "DEFAULT".
What do I have to do?
I just want designer to reverse engineer my DB1, and I think that it will store that meta info in the DB2. Am I correct?
I have created a new workarea and container for that purpose, but should I create a "Oracle database" before capturing the server model? and that database, should be the DB1 or the DB2? both are already created, so I think that I need just the connection.
    thanks.

You've basically got this right - DB1 is the database you are capturing from and DB2 contains the Designer repository into which the metadata is being captured.
Designer wants to have a database definition and a schema definition in the repository to which it can attach your table definitions. In the Design Editor use the DB Admin tab to get to a place where you can create a database definition. Create an Oracle data definition for your application database (DB1) and create a schema definition (aka User) in that database to own your tables. Then those will appear as options in the Capture design of Server Model wizard.
Yes, I know - a lot of steps for what seems to be a simple task - reverse engineer an existing database. That's Designer for you. This is one of the reasons that I say that if ALL you want is to see your database in a server model diagram, Designer is overkill. But Designer can do SO MUCH more than that - if you want to fully use it, the annoyances are worth it.

  • How to change existing database block size in all tablespaces

    Hi,
Need Help to change block size for my existing database which is in 8kb of block size.
I have read that we can only change block size during database creation, but i want to change it after database installation.
because for some reason i dont want to change the database installation script.
Can any one list the steps to change database block size for all existing table space (except system, temp ).
want to change it to 32kb.
    Thank you for you time.
    -Rushang Kansara

    > We are facing more and more physical reads, I thought by using 32K block size
    we would resolve that..
A physical read reported by Oracle may not be - it could well be a logical read from the o/s file system cache and not a true physical read. With raw devices for example, a physical I/O reported by Oracle is indeed one as there is no o/s cache for raw devices. So one needs to be careful how aone interprets number like physical reads.
Lots of physical reads may not necessarily be a bad thing. In contrast, a high percentage of "good/fast" logical reads (i.e. a high % buffer cache hit ratio) may indicate a serious problem with application design - as the application is churning through the exact same data again and again and again. Applications should typically only make a single pass through a data set.
The best way to deal with physical reads is to make them less. Simple example. A database deals with a lot of inserts. Some bright developer decided to over-index a table. Numerous indexes for the same columns exist in difference physical column orders.
Oracle now spends a lot of time dealing (reading) with these indexes when inserting (or updating a row). A single write I/O may incur a 100 read I/Os as a result of these indexes needing to be maintained.
The bottom line is that "more and more physical I/O" is merely a symptom of a problem. Trying to speed these up could well be a wasted exercise. Besides, the most optimal approach to "lots of I/O" is to tune it to make less I/O.
I/O is the most expensive operation for a RDBMS. It is very difficult to make this expense less (i.e. make I/Os faster). It is more effective to make sure that you use this expensive resource in an optimal way.
Simple example. Single very large table with 4 indexes. Not very efficient design I/O wise. Single very large partitioned table with local indexes. This can reduce I/O on that table by up to 80% in my experience.

  • How to install OEM 10g using an existing database on another host

    Hi,
I've created a 10g database (on host solaris_x86) which I like to use for the OEM 10G GC (on host linux_x86).
If I install OEM using existing DB, then the installer expect the database is running locally.

  • Cannot install in existing database

    Hi all-
I'm trying to install GC in an existing database. When I run the installer (10.2.0.3), the top three options (install in new DB, install in existing DB, add management service) are all disabled; the only one I can choose is "add additional agent." Docs don't seem to discuss this, though I have configured the database per the pre-reqs listed in the docs). What am I overlooking?
    Thanks!
    Rob

    Aj is correct.
    See ReadMe notest below:
Installing 10g Grid Control Release 3 requires any previous releases of Grid Control, that is any 10.2.x.x.x installation, and upgrade to 10.2.0.3.0 release. If you do not have a previous release, but want to have a 10.2.0.3.0 Grid Control environment, then first install 10.2.0.1.0 Grid Control (10.2.0.2.0 for Windows), and then upgrade it to 10.2.0.3.0.
    - Download Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 2 Grid Control from:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/index.html
Reference the directions provided to download and unzip the product, and install 10.2.0.1.0 (10.2.0.2.0 for Windows).
    - Run runInstaller (setup.exe for Windows) to start installation
    - When asked for "install type" option, choose "Enterprise Manager using New Database" option
    - Complete installation as per install guide

    Hi guys,
I have used copy of that package from Oracle Identity Management installation, version 10.1.4.0.1 and have been able to complete manual Ultra Search installation. It's valid in dba_registry. After that I did run RepCA and metadata schemas have been created successfully in existing database, version 10.2.0.2. Be careful about database version, only 10.2.0.2 is certified with Oracle Identity management, so you need to run patch for upgrade to 10.2.0.2.
    Hope this helps.
