Insalling 32 & 64 bit clients in Windows 7 64bit OS

Hi,
We are using Windows 7 64bit OS. We have both 32 bit and 64 bit applications accessing our Oracle 10g server.
Some applications are listed bellow.
1) Forms 6i 32 bit
2) 32 bit VB6 application
3) Office VBA applications
4) Autocad 64 bit VBA
5) ASP.NET
I first installed forms6i. I find all my 32bit applications working perfectly.
Then I insalled 64 bit oracle 11g instant client & ODAC & ODBC. I tested the 64bit ODBC connection and it works.
Then when i try to run the 32 bit applications it not working.
I find that in registry my oracle home is pointing to the new 64bit client.
How to make both 32bit and 64bit applications work together.
Regards,
Shijith

Hi,
Thanks Srini for your quick reply.
Meanwhile we succeeded in installing both Oracle 32bit and 64 bit clients. The following clients are installed.
1)     Oracle Forms 6i
2)     Oracle 10g 32 bit client
3)     Oracle 11g instant client, ODAC & odbc for 64bit.
By this we are able to run our
1)     oracle form based applications
2)     VB 6 Complied Applications
3)     ODBC for both 32 & 64 bit.
But we can’t connect from VBA forms from both Office 2010 64 bit and Autocad VBA 2012 64 bit.
I tried ole db for connection string from VBA which gives the error prtovider was not found. Please provide me the steps [references if needed] and connection string for OleDB or any other method.
Actually I don't have much experience with oracle. This is what heppen so far.
Regards,
Shijith

I disagree with your assessment, for two reasons.
One is the severity for RAM is listed as Severity:IGNORABLE.
Secondly I just saw this happen to myself just a moment ago (which is how I found this threat) as well using a silent install on a Windows 2008r2 server I can install to using the setup.exe manually. so disk and memory really isn't an issue.
I suspect something else is going on here. If you read those warnings the Critical they are just the last two about disk space and the PATH variable. Perhaps I am not running as elevated as I thought or the C$ share is not reach able. I am going to keep trying and will report back here when I get my silent install working.

  • Installing 64 bit client on Windows Server 2008

    Hi,
I'm trying to install an 11.2.0.2 64 bit client on my windows 2008 R2 server and its not going through. The install wizard completes, but when I click "install" it starts up the install and just closes in about 3 seconds installing nothing in the install directory.
We currently have a 32 bit 11.2.0.2 client installed on the server as well.
How can I get the 64 bit client to install properly?
I've tried running the setup.exe as admin, running it through cmd with ignore system prereqs, and giving the install folder full permissions to everyone

Pl confirm that you are installing using two separate ORACLE_BASE directories - one for 32-bit and the other for 64-bit.

  • Installing 32-bit client on windows 64-bit

    Hi friends,
I've installed 64-bit Oracle software and database on Windows 2008 64-bit server. We have created this server to troubleshoot something at 3rd party location and our application will be on the same server as the database. Our application is not compatible with 64-bit client so is it possible to install 32-bit Oracle client on this system with 64-bit oracle database running? Do I have to make any changes to the path for the application to use 32-bit cilent?
    THanks a lot

  • 64 Bit Client for Windows 7

We were running fine on a 64-bit Windows 7 laptop using the 5.0.07.029-k9 64-bit client, and a few days ago it stopped working.  It would just hang while starting/connecting.
I tried re-installing, which of course didn't work, but I was able to find a restore point around the 1st week of December that, when rolled back, worked.
It looks like Windows update did some updates at that point, specifically
    KB2761465 - IE
    KB915597 - Windows Defender
    KB2760416 - Office 2007
    KB2726929 - Office 2003
    KB2753842 - Windows 7 64 bit
    KB2758857 - Windows 7 64 bit
    KB2770660 - Windows 7 64-Bit
    KB2779030 - Windows 7 64-Bit
    KB2760497 - Word 2003
    KB2760582 - Outlook 2003
    KB2779562 - Windows 7 64-Bit
    KB890830 - Malicious Software Tool
    KB2754295 - Security Essentials
The PC is using Office 2003, not 2007.
I have downloaded 5.0.07.0440-k9.  It appears that this is the latest 64-bit client.
    Questions:
1.) Which, if any of these updates is the culprit?
2.) Is the 0440 version the solution?  The user wants to do the Windows Update again, but I am reluctant to break it again without a solution.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I know that my answer doesnt really help to solve your question but thought I'd still metion it.
The Cisco IPsec VPN client is something that is nearing its end (or reached it already) regarding any updates or support from Cisco. I would start looking into possiblity to move into Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client (Newer versions are called AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client)
Heres a link to more specific information regarding the old VPN Client and its end of support
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/vpndevc/ps5743/ps5699/ps2308/end_of_life_c51-680819.html
I'm not totally sure (as I have barely tested the client software) but you might be able to test using another non Cisco VPN Client for your VPN Client connections if you are not going to move to AnyConnect
I think it was called Shrew VPN Client
Sadly the www.shrew.net site is down now so I cant even confirm this.

  • Installation of Oracle 11g 32 bit Client on Windows 7 (32 bit) laptop.

I just got a new Laptop with Windows 7 (32 bit) operating system.
Has any one successfully installed Oracle 11g client on in Windows 7 environment and if so what are the steps involved.
In the past I have never had any trouble installing an Oracle client on a Windows work station.
    Thanks,

Oracle hasn't officially supported 11g on windows 7. folks have installed it successfully too. Check the below threads.

I just tried to install the 64-bit client on Windows 8.1 with 16GB of ram.

I chose to ignore the warning and installed anyway.
It doesn't look like the install completed successfully.
For one thing, it did not create a bin folder.
Also when I tried to remove it using the OUI, I was told to use the deinstall utility in the deinstall folder, which is not there either.
How am I supposed to remove this seemingly incomplete installation?

You are trying to put it into a 2010 Ford truck body.
Why are you surprised it does not fit? (or if it fits, why it is not quite correct!)Please tell me where I indicated "surprise"?
Actually, what I was trying to do was get a serious answer rather than a smart-a$$ response.
If you've used software a little, you would realize that saying something is not yet "formally supported" does not mean that there is not a way to make it work. TONS of software does not yet claim it will work with Windows 7, but somehow magically it does. Possibly with problems or issues to workaround, but functional.
I was asking, if on my development machine, there is a way to make the current client work.
In any event - it turns out installing the 32-bit client rather than the 64-bit client does seem to make most things work, at least well enough for my current needs.
Thank you for your very informative response anyway.

  • 10.2.0.5 windows 64 bit Client ?

I've been looking all over OTN and Metalink. It seems to exist but I cannot find it anywhere.

Thanks, I found the update but this give the following problem. I'm trying to install a 64 bit client on Windows 7. The 10.2.0.1 client installer does not seem to work. It results in error messages:
"Anormal program interruption. An internal error has occurred. Provide the following files to Oracle support:
    "Unknown"
    "Unknown"
    "Unknown"
as discussed in this thread: http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=953891
So far so good because this product is not certified for Windows 7.
And now there is a 10.2.0.5 client that is certified but only has an upgrade for a non certified version that won't install?

  • Error: OUI.exe Stopped Working 11g R2 32-bit Client on Win 7 64-bit

I am receiving an error "oui.exe stopped working" when running setup.exe to install Oracle 11g R2 (win32_11gR2_client.zip for Win 32-bit) client on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. I never even get as far as the Oracle installation dialog box. I am trying to install 11g R2 32-bit because it is my understanding the 64-bit version of Oracle client is not compatible with Toad for Oracle.
I have read numerous posts on the subject and have tried just about everything I can think of to get around the error. When I run the setup.exe -debug I can see that teh files are unzipped and the installer seems to fail when it hit the section where it tries executing java.exe. Once the dialog box appears with the error message, I am not able to get back to the command window to extract the debug results. I can only see it partially in the background behind the dialog box. When I hit cancel to close the error dialog, the debug window also closes, so no way to get the details of the debug results
I am logged into Win 7 as a member of the Adminstrators group and have verified that the Windows User Access Control (UAC) is turned off. I get the erorr message whether I run as Administrator or not. I have unzipped all the files and folders under the \client directory from the zip file to a folder c:\temp\. So the setup.exe and all folders below it are in the c:\temp directory. I did this because one post suggested an issue with long path names or path names with spaces when executing setup.exe.
Seems like it should not be this difficult. I never had issues in the past installing Oracle client on Windows XP Pro. This is my first attempt at installing under Win 7.
Any help or direction would be much appreciated.

    orafad and PavanG,
First let me thank you both for your multiple attempts to help me. I finally figured out what was causing the issue with the Oracle Installer, oui.exe not running properly. Last night I was looking around into the Windows Event Viewer and found an Error entry for oui.exe that pointed to a program directory and .dll in the \\program files\appsense\ directory path. It seems that in addition to the McAfee virus scan, host intrusion, unwanted programs, group policy manager, etc., there is another application installed on the machine that governs what programs can and cannot run. I don't know much about it other than when the program was temporarily suspended, the setup.exe and oui.exe install kicked off fine without the "oui.exe stopped working" error message. It proceeded happily to the Oracle Client installation dialog. All along our IT desktop support was trying to help me with the install and they repeatedly disabled the McAfee programs to no avail, but not the other utilities. It was almost like even they were unaware of this other application running in the background since they never suggested disabling it.
Either way, I'm happy to say that I am now able to successfully launch the Oracle Client installer without issue. I've also learned a little about getting the Oracle 11g Instant client to work with Toad while I worked through the issue with the installer. I could almost get by completely with just using the Instant Client if I didn't have to use SQL*Loader (sqlldr.exe) and tnsping.exe. Any suggestions for getting these two functions to work with the Instant Client would be appreciated. I tried copying the binaries and the message files into the appropriate instant client directories, but windows kept complaining about missing .dll's when I tried executing the commands.
If there is no workaround for getting these functions to work with the Instant Client, and I have to do an Oracle Client install, at least now I can. Do you know if I would need to do the full "Administrator" install to get these functions, or can I do just the "Run Time" install to get sqlldr and tnsping?
    Thanks again for your help

  • 32-bit Oracle client on Windows 7 64-bit?

    Hi,
I have a Windows 7 64-bit OS and need to install an Oracle client on this machine. Instead of installing a 64-bit client, I would like to install a 32-bit client and was wondering if this is possible and compatible on a 64-bit machine? The reason I would prefer to install a 32-bit client is because i have a 32-bit version of TOAD and apparently this doesnt work with a 64-bit client.
I have downloaded the following files:
    Oracle Database 10g Client Release 2 (10.2.0.3) -> 10203_vista_w2k8_x86_production_client.zip
    patchset 10.2.0.5 (for Windows 7 compatibility) -> p8202632_10205_WINNT.zip
Are these the correct files I have downloaded? Thanks.

    Hi,
    What about trying these samples..
    test =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = your machine name )(PORT = 1521)) )
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = your database sid) )
    test1 =
    (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = your machine name )(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA = (SID = your database sid) (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    test2 =
    (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = your machine name )(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA = (SID = your database sid) (SERVER = DEDICATED)
Test all of them using tnsping before you use them..

  • VPN Client on Windows 7 64 Bit Enterprise and T410 Very Slow to Load

    Hello,
I have the 64 bit Client 5.0.0.7.0290 loaded on Thinkpad T410s running Windows 7 64 Bit Enterprise and it takes over an hour for the client to execute.  Each step of the client load takes 10-15 minutes to load and although the interface eventually loads; it does not allow me to connect.
It happens on all the T410s which are all running Windows 7 64 Bit. Our other Windows 7 64-Bit  Laptops and Desktops run this client just fine.  I have tried to load the client as the first app after the Windows 7 has completed its install from the Microsoft DVD and I get the same response.
Any suggestions on how I can debug this issue?  I have tried process explorer and it does not show any hung processes.
    Many thanks,
    Kevin

  • Installation of forms 11g release 2 on windows 7 64 bit client

    Hi,
I am trying to install forms and reports 11g release 2 on my windows 7 64 bit client.
When I tried to install it, I got a message Weblogic should be installed first.
In the Oracle site there are many versions of Weblogic. Which should I install?
    Thanks
    Rani

    Rani,
Oracle has rebranded the Oracle Developer Suite (ODS) as Fusion Middleware (FMw). Part of the evolution of the suite has been the replacement of the OC4J Container used by ODS to use WebLogic Server. Unfortunately, in order to install the FMw Forms and Reports builders you must also install the WebLogic Server (WLS) on your development workstation. Each version of FMw is dependent on a specific version of the WLS. Here is the basic break down:
    WLS 10.3.2 with FMw R1 (11.1.1.2)
    WLS 10.3.3 with FMw R1 (11.1.1.3)
    WLS 10.3.4 with FMw F1 (11.1.1.4)
    WLS 10.3.5 with FMw R2 (11.1.2)
As you can see, you will need to download and install the WLS 10.3.5 before you can install FMw R2. Make sure you do not run the WLS configuration step at the end of the instllation. When you install FMw r2, it will perform the necessary configuration the WLS and Forms and Reports Services.
    Hope this helps,
    Craig B-)

  • Oracle 8.1.7.3 client on Windows Server 2008 64bit

    Hi all!
I'm a newbie to Oracle and this forum, so please be gentle...:)
I'm trying to install Oracle 8.1.7.3 client on a 64bit Windows Server 2008, without success. Best result I got so far is 'installed' client and provider, but unable to run the config tools, or use the provider. I installed the same client on a 32bit version of Win Server 2008 and it worked with few minor tweaks.
Reason I'm doing this is trying to integrate an old legacy Oracle 7 database with SQL Server 2008 using linked servers.
Upgrading to a recent version is not an option.
Anyone has any guidelines? please help, this is driving me nuts!
    Thanx,
    Igor

The client is included. Download it and start the installation. It should give you an option to select 'client only'.

    Oracle 8i Server (32 bit)
    2nd server (Web Server)
    OS : Windows 2003 SP2 (64 bit)

After i installed, oracle 9i client (32 bit) in Windows 2003 SP2 (64 bit), i managed to install and configure tnsnames and connects using SQL Plus. However, i CANNOT see Oracle in ODBC.
Que 1 : Why? Why i cannot see any Oracle in ODBC? Is it because of 64 bit?
Que 2: If i installed Oracle 9i client (64 bit), will it solve the problem?
Que 3: Will my .Net software gives problem when application installed in IIS interacts with DB server???
