Insane battery consumption when Push is activated

Is there something wrong with my phone, or is the battery supposed to be drained REALLY fast when Push is activated?
For some reason, the "Usage" counter will keep counting even though phone is not in use:
Usage: 7 hours 51 minutes (was really only 3 minutes)
Standby: 19 hours, 45 minutes.
Battery left: About 40% (was 100%)
The phone has laid untouched and locked (screen off) all the time, except maybe 3 minutes.
3G is OFF
Wifi is OFF
Autolock: 1 minute
Exchange Push is ON (less than 100KB of mails were received)
I've had a phone with Exchange Push feature before (HTC), and battery consumption was not anything near this...
When i turn off push, battery is just fine, and usage counter is correct.

For what it's worth, I have this same problem with MobileMe account....reloading settings does not fix that and I set my phone up from the ground up first time round.
PUSH OFF = reasonable battery useage, even with all the other battery draining features on
PUSH ON = loads of usage, even with phone unattended and battery that needs charging every 24hrs at least.

  • My laptop sucks battery dry when its not active

I have a compaq 615 laptop, windows 7 32bit. Some days ago i noticed that my battery runs down to below 7% when its not active, this happens when i use the battery to about 60% or 50% before shutting down the system and try to on it after some hours. It doesn't happen when i shut down at 100%. Right now i am confused, i don't know what to do because its seems the laptop sucks the battery when its not active. Pleas i need your advise on what to do

Try calibrating the battery from HPSA. You can test the battery through there.
The battery test is part of HPSA in Windows 7.

  • Battery consumption when touching the iPhone 4 antenna. I want to share with you all an assumption...

I've noticed that when I'm holding my iPhone 4 the battery drains faster.. Is it possible that when you are holding it the iPhone raises the antenna's power to reduce the signal loss?
Signal weakens when I'm holding it, doesn't matter if I'm touching the death-grip. When I bridge the antennas, signal weakens ever more..
My hypothesis: not using a bumper, not only would affect your signal, but your battery.
Do you think this is possible?

You have to ignore talhakhan99's suggestion at all costs.
Jailbreaking violates Apple's Terms of Use and this forum can offer no help or support for jailbroken devices. You risk making your iPhone completely useless. If you wish, you can read Apple's thoughts on this here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3743 .
I feel confident that this thread will be removed shortly as a consequence of talhakhan99's coments.
As for you actual question about texting on an iPhone, it should be reasonably easy to work out how to do it if ytou are already familiar with texting on phones.

  • IPhone 3G TERRIBLE battery life when push is ON, great when push is OFF.

    Hey all,
So I've set up Nuevasync to keep my Google calendar synced over-the-air with my phone (it uses the exchange protocol so its a Push service).
I've been having absolutely horrible battery life ever since I got this phone but 2.1 made it even WORSE for me.
So I thought I'd try turning everything off to try to isolate what's causing the battery problem.
Solution? I turned off push and set fetch to manual. My phone has been in standby for 9 hours and has played music for 2 hours, and I still have about 90% battery remaining.
Perfect! Except..... why is push eating so much battery? If I turn it on, I can only get about 8 hours standby with a couple hours of usage before it needs a charge.

So how does RIM get push to go for days on a BlackBerry???
Push on a blackberry is a totally different animal than Push on an iPhone.
Basically Blackberry push can be thought of as an SMS that goes straight to your mail, addressbook, or calendar, and wakes up that application to do what ever is necessary (like connect and download the mail or whatever). (Its not REALLY an sms, but it works like that. I think Blackberry sends something like 5 bytes to the phone over the regular gsm network.)
They have this patented. And it requires a special network and special servers to support it.
Apple iPhone push uses a Microsoft technique, where the phone opens a TCP/IP connection to a server. If the server has some news for the phone, (calendar or mail) it sends it down that connection. If nothing comes across the wire for 12 minutes (or maybe 15, I forget the details) the connection closes.
Either of these two events trigger the phone to wake up and handle the event.
So the radio can never be totally off, it has to check the status of that connection every few seconds. Thats where your battery goes.
A rational approach would be to just use a special formatted SMS that the phone intercepts, but I think that Apple and Microsoft are worried about stepping on Blackberry's patents.

  • Insane power consumption when sleeping

I took my black macbook out of it's case today (Tuesday) having last put it away with a half full battery on Saturday. It had completed exhausted the battery and had to wake from hibernation.
I regularly find that it goes from a full charge to about 88% just from sleeping overnight.
A friend of mine who has the exact same spec. does not experience this behaviour. Any ideas how to make it not use stupid amounts of power while sleeping?

  • Screen blanks out when pushed tilted beyond 90 degrees

HP Pavilion 4t - 1000, Vista OS. Screen blanks out when pushed beyond 90 degrees, i.e., vertical position, , No change has been made in software, battery run down and has been replaced with identical battery from HP.

A very high percentage of the time this is from a punched or crushed cable that leads from the mother board, through the left hinge and up to the top of the screen in the back. I got a cable from China off eBay for $4.99 + $2.99 out of country shipping (from China).

  • Battery Pull - When, Why, and How

An *excellent* article on the when, why, and how of doing battery pulls on your BlackBerry.  It's recommended many times on these boards to fix a multitude of problems because it WORKS!  Here's why:
    http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101-battery-pulls-when-why-and-how
And if you don't want to click the link, here are a few of the highlights:
Maybe [your BlackBerry] is not working as fast as before, the internet is stalled, or application memory is gone and nothing has been added. Is it possessed? Do you want to hurl it against the wall?
Before exchanging the device or panicking that it’s broken, know this. It’s normal; from time to time, your device might become slow and unresponsive. There is a quick and simple way to troubleshoot these issues. In these cases, it’s necessary to reset your BlackBerry device by performing a hard or soft reset. A hard reset is also called a battery pull.
Essentially, a battery pull restarts the operating system on your BlackBerry device and is just like rebooting your PC when it’s experiencing problems. It is not the same as using the Pwr Off/On button. This only places the phone in standby mode. Not only does a battery pull solve various problems with your device, it also frees up application memory and shuts down applications running in the background that can drain battery and resources.
A battery pull can help when:
    Hardware Problems
    Device display freezes or jerks
Torch/Storm devices lag when going from Portrait to Landscape and vice versa
Keypad/Trackball stops responding or does not work
    SIM card errors
    Software Problems
Java code or module errors appear on screen (e.g. Uncaught exception)
Applications are slow, unresponsive, do not load or lag
    Theme issues
Bluetooth errors – connecting, pairing, etc.
    Installing/Uninstalling Applications & Theme)
Music streaming apps (Slacker, Pandora) experience continuous buffering
Social networking apps (Twitter/Facebook) indicate there is no connection available
Memory leak – available application memory drops
LED Notification - LED keeps flashing when there are no new e-mails, texts, alarms, etc.
Maybe you don't WANT to physically remove the battery; I know I don't like removing the protective case repeatedly to take the battery out of the phone.  Thankfully, there are third party "apps" that simulate a battery pull that you can download from BB App World. I use QuickPull by Steelhorn Software (free); it will reboot your device on a schedule you set, or you can do it manually as needed.  A+ Reset ($2.99 after free trial), deReset ($5.99), Restart Me (free) are other options, all available through BB App World.
HTH someone...your BlackBerry can do a lot for you, but you do need to do some caretaking and maintenance.

  • When I first activated the iCloud keychain it was working great. But now it doesn't seem to be working on my iPod or iPads, i.e.: a wifi password it was able to use a few days ago over all devices now will only automatically work on the MacBook?

When I first activated iCloud keychain on my stuff (MacBook Pro, iPod and 2 iPads) it was working great and the all logged in to a wifi network that I had only used the password for on the MacBook. But yesterday the others all started asking for the password again (which I unfortunately don't remember and the friend who had it has recentlly had a stroke and also cannot remember it). I've tried turning iCloud keychain off and then back on again, but to no avail. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

What probally currputed is the battery, all type of devices do this when the battery gose out. and when it only lights up when pulged in that a sign of a bad battery. click here for support on a replacment battery. Hey dose maybe this page or this page will help.

  • Bluetooth Mighty Mouse battery consumption

I have a Bluetooth Mighty Mouse and have had it for 3 months (Christmas present). Last week, I noticed one bar had disappeared in the mouse battery life window in System Prefs - "wow" I thought "only lost 20% charge in just under 3 months".
However, yesterday, I got a "Low Battery" warning and noticed that only two bars were remaining. A couple of hours later I got a "Critical battery level" warning and only one bar remaining.
I don't use my mouse all that much - probably at most 6 hours per day (in short-ish intervals, turning it off in between) and I can't remember accidentally leaving it on. I'm using it with the two original AA batteries it shipped with.
Is this normal battery consumption? I find it strange that from "Low battery" to "critical battery" would be a couple of hours and that it would suddenly lose almost 50% of its charge in a week.
Do these mice eat AA batteries? Is it a good idea to get some rechargeables to use instead?
    Cheers for the help

    Hello thomasp:
In answer to your question, the battery life of a wireless mouse is mostly dependent on usage. When not in use, the wireless devices go to a very low power mode. IMHO, it is a waste of time to turn mice/KBs off. I would postulate that your experience is about normal.
I use rechargeable batteries (2500 mAh) in all my wireless devices. They do not last quite as long as the Lithium batteries - they have a lower voltage. However, I use an Energizer recharger that recharges batteries in 15 minutes - very little waiting time. In addition to being less expensive in the long run, rechargeable batteries are environmentally friendly! I bought a bunch of them on eBay. By the by, the rechargeables lose some charge every day - even if they are not in use.

  • Not able to Hear other person when Handset is activated

I have the problem of not being able to hear the caller. They are not having any issues on hearing the voice. Issue wasn't resolved after pulling the battery as suggested in other threads.
Interesting fact is: When I activate the speaker phone (either by blackberry options / by pressing the button "."), I am able to hear them. When handset is activated, I am not able to hear the caller. I checked bluetooth was disabled.
Any clue on what is wrong with the headset?

  • IPhone 3gs battery consumption very high after updating to IOS 6

    HI,
After updating my iphone 3GS to ios 6,battery consumption is very high.I observed this changes in my iphone 3gs after updating my iphone 3gs to IOS 6.

Is there a SIM in the device?  A SIM is required for activation.
The most common reason for activation issues is due to the device being hacked or jailbroken.  If this is the case, no support can be provided here and Apple will not touch the device.

    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
