Insane memory useage after reducing prefetch and superfetch

Question

It worked like a charm on my ACER. Reduced perfetch and superfetch and now it boots fast and it runs faster and more stable. It boots with 204Mb memory in use!
I tried it on my X61T which booted at 937Mb.
After reducing superfetch from level 3 to 2, it increased to 1.1Gb.
Then I reduced prefetch from level 3 to 1. It increased to 1.37Gb.
If I look into Sysinternals processes explorer I can only find ~700Mb allocated.
Of which is 286Mb McAfee! The ACER runs ESET which does ~80Mb.
If I boot up I also have a problem with a crashing logmon.exe.
Any tips?

  Are you serious?  I need more power than what I have to fire up just the motherboard with absolutely nothing else attached?  How much current is truly necessary to fire up this CPU?  The existing PSU worked just fine with the 3000+, 3 HDs, and two DVD burners, so I question the need for even more current just to fire up the new CPU by itself.  Most of the discussions I've seen focus on the +12V rail(s), so I would like to know how much current is needed to get this bugger up and running.  Is the 4A difference between my existing PSU and the one you are recommending going to make that much of a difference?  I've seen the signs of overstressed power supplies in the past, including the reluctance to fire the system up as well as a buzzing noise from within the PSU, but I'm not seeing anything of that nature with my existing setup.
The unit you are recommending seems quite nice, but is about three times more than I was planning to spend on a PSU.  The appearance of a power supply means nothing to me, as I prefer to have the machine sealed up and quiet and out of the way, and therefore I tend to stay away from those fancy units with the gold plating and internal lights and other gimmicks.
