Insanely slow export in CC

Hello, I'm pretty new to Premiere Pro CC, and I just finished editing my first video.  I was stunned by how long it says it will take to export the project, and I figure I've got to be doing something wrong because I'd like to think that my computer is pretty powerful.
Here are my computer's specs:
Mac Pro tower Mid 2012 OS X 10.8.5
3.2 GHz Quad-core intel xeon processor
32 GB RAM 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC
GPU ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB
Three 7200 RPM SATA Disk 1TB Hard Drives
The video is 30 minutes long, 1920x1080 (1.0) 29.97 fps, H.264, 48000 Hz, has a few color correction plugins and contrast adjustments, and it's crazy slow no matter what format I export to. When I try to export to QuickTime with the Preset: HD 1080i 29.97, etc, the estimated file size is 2285 MB and the estimated time remaining to export is over 20 hours. It's basically stuck at 0%. When I try to export to MPEG4 the estimated file size is 73 MB and the estimated time remaining is over 9 hours.
I've been trying to research this stuff for hours now, and I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong.  I've been reading some things about how CC has slowed down exporting in comparison to previous versions of Premiere Pro, but this is ridiculous.  I mean, there's gotta be something I can do, right?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using hardware-accelerated Mercury Playback via OpenCL?  Have you set Maximum Render Quality in the Export Settings?  Software MPE playback is slower than hardware in many cases and if you combine that with MRQ then you can get very long renders.  And if you're not scaling or deinterlacing your video, you may not need MRQ at all.  Your choice of Color Correction plugins can have an effect on render time as well.  If the plugin can't be hardware-accelerated by Pr, then render times can increase significantly compared to the CC tools in Pr that can be accelerated.
Cheers,
Jeff

  • Keyboard going crazy, Insanely slow G3 PowerMac

Posted this on MR, will post here too:
Hey guys, my friend is having trouble with her PowerMac G3. It is going insanely slow and the keyboard is in all caps and adding random letters/numbers in. I gave her instructions to reset nvram etc. That didnt work. A typical IM with her now:
    Friend 1:53KERWYBOAERDFS BEROKERW
    Me 1:53 huh?
    Friend 1:53COMPUTER VERY VERYW SLOW
    The conversation was really amusing
Anyways, I'm having her try Safe Boot now, though I suspect that won't work. If anyone has any idea on what to do, please do post.
Thanks in advance!! She runs 10.3.9

    Hi, Steve -
    Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
To avoid wasting time fruitlessly seeking a software solution when there may be none, the first thing to do would be to verify whether the problem may be in the keyboard, such as from a liquid spill.
Ask your friend to try using a different keyboard - if the problem goes away, then the fault lies in the keyboard itself.
Another test - boot the machine to a CD. If the problem goes away, then it is software based; if it does not go away while booted to the CD, the fault is in the hardware.

  • Mac has become insanely slow : Processes SystemUIServer, UserEventAgent and loginwindow using a lot of memory

I have been using my Mac for for many months without any problem. But recently all of a sudden the Mac became insanely slow.
I opened Activity Manager to see what was happening. For three processes SystemUIServer, UserEventAgent and loginwindow, the memory gradually increases and reaches upto 2 GB for each process. This completely hangs up my Mac.
    I tried the following:
    Restart Mac
    Restart Mac in safe mode
    Manually kill the processes
Remove Date and Time from Menu bar (this was supposed to be the problem for the SysteUIServer process's memory according to many users)
Removed the externally connected keyboard and mouse(some had suggested this for UserEventAgent's memory)
No luck with any of those. The moment I log in, the memory spikes up.
Any idea what on earth is happening? Please help.

Create a new user account with admin status. Log out of your account, then log into the new one. Does your problem stop? If not then boot into Safe Mode. Does the problem stop? Boot normally. Does the problem stop.
If none of the above help, then you have a corrupted system and need to reinstall Lion.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Jetpack insanely slow, seems to be common problem....

    Duplicate post - please see:
Why do I get such an insanely slow downloads from this jetpack?

Try the usual steps: restart, reset, restore.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you try restoring from a backup and that doesn't fix the problem, try restoring to factory settings and, if the problem goes away, then synching your apps. You'll lose the app data and settings, but if the problem is due to a corrupt cache or settings file, that should cure it.
If none of that helps, your device may have developed a hardware fault and will need to be take or sent to Apple, though if this is the only issue you're experiencing, a hardware problem seems unlikely.

  • Slow export for no reason

Hi fellow mac users. I have two macs. One of the macs has a much faster exporting speed that the other for Imovie HD. I heard about it being something about one using DV maybe?
Well it takes on the slow exporting mac 20 minutes to export a 10 minute clip in CD-ROM format. But on the other it takes about 4 minutes. Considering I don't want it to take 20 minutes because the 4 minutes quality is fine - how do I make it go faster again on this computer?
    Thanks,
    -G

    Hi
Not really understanding Your problem I can make a guess.
The most common origin to that a Mac slows down is the amount of free space on
the internal (start-up) hard disk (no other counts)
    • 5Gb or less - most probably Your Mac doesn't work or have an occult behaviour
    • 5-10Gb might work but slow
    • about 25Gb free space - my way of getting things done
    Second reason:
DVD discs has a speed no: on them eg DVD-R x16 (most often to fast for most Macs
to make good burns) I use iDVD08 or Apple Disk Util tool to burn at x1 speed
Much better result and DVDs that most often works.
    Yours Bengt W

  • MacBook Pro running insanely slow...

My MacBook Pro runs insanely slow especially when I'm uploading my site from iWeb to a folder on my computer. Other times sometimes the applications take forever to load or they stall when loading. I can never do more than two things at once with it.
What could be causing this problem, and do you think taking it to the Apple store that they'd be able to fix it?

There could easily be stuff on your drive that you don't need that is taking up space. Stuff like funny videos from you tube, logs, caches, demos, Garage band loops, games, music, printer drivers, extra languages--stuff like that. You may be able to reclaim some space by getting rid of some of these or moving some big files to an external hard drive.
There are a couple of utilities which can help you see what's taking up space:
    WhatSize:
    http://www.id-design.com/software/whatsize/
    Disk Inventory X
    http://www.derlien.com
Disk Inventory X is free. WhatSize used to be, but I understand there is a small charge for it now.
One caution. If you decide to remove something, be sure you know what it is. There are some programs that you don't use, but your computer does. But the big things will usually be media files of some sort like Garageband or iMovie or iPhoto. And sometimes there will appear a mysterious folder taking up space that was somehow generated. If in doubt, the genius at the Apple Store should be able to tell you what's what.
    Good luck!

My wife as an ellipsis 8 she got in the black friday special. Overall it's been pretty good, but access to the device from her PC is insanely slow.
Just opening  the internal device storage from the windows 7 machine can take as long as 5 minutes. Copying a single music file into the external sdram card has taken as long as half an hour.

  • T530 - Insanely Slow SD card transfer rate

I'm curious if anyone knows why I might be experiencing insanely slow transfer rates from a particular 8GB Transcend SDHC 6 card?  If I click on details while it is reading from the card, it will say 'Calculating...' forever.  It will take like 5 minutes to transfer 3 - 1MB files.  There are less than 200 pictures/videos on the card.  The weird thing is that accessing the same card from my old laptop and my wife's laptop works perfectly fine.
And if I take my 16GB Micro SDHC card from my cell phone and put it into an SD card adapter and put that into the SD slot on my T530, no issues, it transfers files at normal speeds?!  So it doesn't seem like the reader is bad, it just doesn't like that one card.
    Any ideas?

    Hi there dudeman,
Are all the card reader drivers up to date?
One of the drivers for the T530 listed here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT073832 was recent, from August, under Camera and Card Reader. This may not solve your issue but I just wanted to suggest installing the latest drivers if you haven't already.

  • Why is firefox so insanely slow, sticky and sluggish?

As I'm typing this in firefox the letters are popping on the screen about a good 20 plus seconds later. I like a lot of the features it offers but my God it is so utterly, insanely and maddeningly slow, sticky, sluggish, torpid and might as well toss in the entire thesaurus.

    Hi Greg,
Have you tried emptying the Firefox cache? If not, In Firefox, from the Tools menu, select Clear Private Data. Make sure Cache is checked, and then click Clear Private Data Now.
Have you tried trashing the Firefox app and downloading and reinstalling Firefox? Make sure and save your Firefox bookmarks: Bookmarks>Organize Bookmarks, under active bookmark manager, file-export.
Also, anytime apps slow down even if it's just one, check your free drive space. Select your MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, press Command + I that will prompt the Get Info window. Click
the black arrow next to: General so it faces down. You will see: Capacity and Available Minimum drive space shouldn't less than 15% of the total drive. Some users say 10%, some say 20%, so I aim toward the middle. If indeed your short on drive space, transfer files to an external source.
Also, try running Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions.

  • Help me identify problem for slow export on a powerful machine

    Hi,
I am exporting an interview in Premiere Pro CC. It is 1:45:00 long and it has been 20 hours since, but the export is only 94% complete.
    Project & Footage:
    The footage is a combination of DSLR footage - 5D Mark III, GH3, 650 & 550D.
The edit is all straight cuts with: {a} Color corrector on each clip to match all cameras {b} NEAT - reduce noise on around 10% clips {c} Sharpen (10-30) & {d} An adjustment layer overall with a 3-way color corrector for a simple color grade.
    Hard Drives:
E: SSD-RAID for the source footage (Samsung 840 SSD on RAID-0)
D: SSD for previews and cache (Samsung 840 Pro)
C: SSD for Windows, Adobe CC & all programs (Samsung 840 Pro)
G: Simple Seagate Hard disk for Export (used to be a 3 disk RAID but 2 drives crashed some time back)
    Other Machine Spec:
    Intel i7-3930K overclocked by 10%
    64GB RAM
    GTX-770 GPU
This is my longest project to date in terms of total time, but last time I did a 1:00:00 project, took around 2 hours not 20.
My concern is I need to understand where the bottleneck is?
My CPU is hardly working a sweat - 40% at max
My RAM is plenty - being used 40-70%
GPU is not even being used in anything (see it at 0%)
Disks (which I was sure was the bottleneck) barely cross 10MB/s
Checked the "power options" in Windows also - everything is set to maximum performance.
It was a big mistake not to send it to Media Encoder as I could have continued editing a different project. Biggest. Mistake. Ever! (no idea why Adobe does not make it a default behaviour?)
I am fairly new to the industry and till last year was using a MacBook Pro until I started getting demanding projects.
I want to know is this normal? If I had used NEAT video for 100% footage then probebly I could have understood this, but its used for only 1/10th of thr footage and I have used NEAT before (but on After Effects CS6) on my Macbook pro (nowehere near as fast as my current machine) and it only added a small overhead - nothing of this sort.
I expected maybe 3 hours to export this 90-100 min seqeunce, not over 1 day.
So what could be the reason? Why isn't one of the above (CPU, RAM, Disk, GPU) at 100%?
I expected 1 of these to be the bottleneck but nothing is crossing 50% even when it should be on full blast.
I dread what if there is small tweak required in the edit once its complete. This video is due on Monday, I would have to reencode for 24 hours.
Please experts - let me know your thoughts. Could it be that Creative Cloud Windows is slower than CS6 Mac & its not a hardware problem?
I am sure I am missing some hardware that is causing this bottlenck. Attaching resource Monitor screenshot (let me know if I should use some benchmark software for you guys to get more information).

UPDATE: My export crashed (and heart sank) after 96% (25 hours). Win7 restarted. I have no clue why (If someone has any tip how to seach logs/dump in Windows to find a reason how, please let me know - I was worried about CPU temperature but that was around 40 deg, I was monitoring it.)
Anyways, so I used Media Encoder now (instead of direct export in PrPro) and made 2 changes:
    1. I unchecked "Render Maximum Depth" just as it is in the the default Youtube 1080p@24p preset (but kept the keyframing distance at 24 instead of 72 which is default).
    2. From VBR - 2 Pass, I made it CBR
Its been 15 min I started the export and the video is 20% encoded already, with remaning time just 00:30 min.
    Now I am flabergasted.
Did not using maximum depth & VBR- 2 pass alone make such a difference? From 30 hours to 1 hour? I am still using all the video effects and absolutely no change to the edit.
I am seeing 2 differences the way my machine is working:
    1. Is Adobe somehow using some old renders it did for the last export? I am using disk utility and it is refering to original source files and some "Media Encoder preview files" which I think it was not using before (could be wrong)?
So all that hard work it did for 25 hours is being utilized and if I do such a project again it will take me 30 hours again. Right?
    2. GPU is now being used (and to good effect). How is GPU being used now? I am not scaling or using any fancy effects. Just Neat Video, 3-way color corrector & Sharpen.
This was before (export done in Premiere Pro directly):
    And this is now:
Very sad that no one (even from the Adobe Staff) has replied to my post. Did I say something inappropriate or TMI?
C'mon guys I am on the Creative Cloud - show me some love

  • Premiere Pro CS6 and MacBook Pro Retina : Painfully slow exports, very long renders

    Hello All,
This question seems to have been posted before..
I came from Windows land and have used Premiere since '97..
"Let's try a super spec Macbook and have a mobile editing suite.. Great!"
I generally work with DSLR footage, H264 codec and .wav files.
Imports and scrubbing is great, applying effects starts it slowing down and I'll adjust playback to 1/2 or 1/4 resolution.
And that's just on one layer of video..
Now, when it comes to exporting in general, a 50 second clip takes over 30 minutes to render.
    Very frustrating..
I mainly export using the existing presets for YoutubeHD and VimeoHD.
Can't get my head around why it takes so long and I am hoping that perhaps a re-install or a fundamental preference setting will solve it.
In my preferences, I've allocated 11GB of memory to Adobe Production Suite applications and I rarely run 2 at a time.
Scratch disks are set to project folders, on a 4GB RAID1 drive connected via Thunderbolt protocol
    Tech specs :
    Processor  - 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory - 16GB 1600Mhz DDR3
Graphics -   NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
    Storage - SSD 500GB
    OS - OS X, v10.8.3
I look forward to hearing back from you and thank you in advance

Well, I've run a few tests, and learned something new.
CS6 on my MacBook Pro has three acceleration modes now: Software, Hardware (OpenCL) and Hardware (CUDA).
I've run software only... not so great. Then I ran Hardware Open CL, and it "acts" like CUDA did on my Mac Pro with GTX 285... bars that were red turned yellow, and some things ran without rendering! I was pretty surprised by this, as I have only 512MB VRAM, not 1GB VRAM on the 650M.
This is only my not-very-serious edit-on-the-road system, so I didn't spec it out to be a monster editing laptop, but I'm extremely pleased by how well it runs with CS6. I have two very nice, new SSDs inside; one for OS X/apps, and the other for media, as well as 16GB RAM. Each SSD runs at 500MB/sec +/- whether read or write, despite the second SSD being in the space where the optical drive was.
It's too bad there's not just a *wee bit* more space where the optical drive was... or I'd try to stuff THREE SSDs inside, and RAID two of them for media.
So far, I'm really pleased with how well it works with only 512MB VRAM, which was the question I had wanted answered.

  • Ref movie slow export, like it is rendering

I have assembled some 640x480 Animation Codec clips in a 640x480 Animation Codec sequence. The goal is to export to QuickTime so that I can compress (and resize to 720x480) in Compressor and then add to a DVD Studio Pro project.
Some clips needed some help with speed changes and transitions, so I rendered all of that. In fact I selected all of the options in Sequence -> Render All... to be sure the sequence get entirely rendered and when I press Option-R. Pressing Option-R flashes the progress bar on and off to suggest the sequence is all rendered, nothing more to do. The places where there was red render bars now slows bluish render bars. That means rendered, right?
Yet when I export a video-only QuickTime reference movie, the progress seems to slow as it gets to the parts of the timeline where the blue render bars are, like it is rendering during the export. Why would it do this if I rendered everything first? In fact to prove that something is going on during the export, the reference movie is clearly not just a reference movie, the movie that is created in the end is over 14GB in size.
Any suggestions for how to set up sequence in a case like this, export the reference movie quickly and into a small file size (like you'd expect a ref movie to be)?

  • Slow exports of my HD footage

I just bought the canon vixia hf11 and am working with HD footage for the first time. I'm not real familiar with the speeds at which I should expect Adobe's Media Encoder to perform at so I'm just curious:
    1. How long should it take to render out a 4 minute clip to h.264?
    2. Are we talking a couple of hours or is my setup slow?
I covered a mixed martial arts show and will be producing some material for my client. I know there are many ways to export the file, but I just wanted a ballpark idea on how long I should expect it to take. I have several ways I'd like to render this footage out.
    1. For my client to view short clips first and provide feedback on the project as a whole - so I'd like to post them to the web for easy viewing (short 2-4 minute clips).
    2. I need to edit everything in Premiere CS4, which it seems like I need to create p2 files in order for my pc to play them back smoothly.
Thanks for any and all info you guys can offer.

    Hey Craig,
Thanks for the response first of all... when you refer to a "tvc" what is that? Forgive my lack of experience here. I'm tinkering with different settings as I try to apply the suggestions I see here and I'm still seeing HUGE render times. Just trying to make sure I'm paying attention the details.

  • LR4 - Anyone notice slower export times - RAW to JPG?

I read through the "Lightroom 4 is slow" thread - very good reading. I have noticed many of the same issues & hope Adobe is paying attention to that thread!
No one mentioned a slowdown in exporting RAW files to JPG. My average time for exporting Canon 7D CR2 files to full sized 300dpi JPGs in LR 3 is about 5.3 seconds per file. The same exports in LR 4 are about 8 seconds per file.
I can learn to live with this increased exporting time. I'm curious as to whether anyone else is experiencing this.

Yes.  For me, Canon G12 & 40D RAW files are taking twice as long to export under LR4 than under 3.6 - 16 secs vs 8 secs after the same processing.  But I am also seeing the same general latency problems identified in other threads here.  I've reverted back to 3.6 after trying every possible workaround posted so far - LR4 is unusable for me.

  • Suddenly very slow export

Hi.  Basically, my export has gone very slow.  I will give what details I can, but the main thing here is that I am doing what I have always done, but suddenly it is going very slow.  I export to MPEG2 DVD as that goes straight onto a DVD without further render in my Sony DVD maker program.  Export in Premiere usually takes between 30 and 40 minutes. Latyest project is warning me of over 3 hours!  I thought I would ask here before waiting and seeing if it still works okay in case there is an obvious answer.  MPEG audio, multiplexer on, maximum mrender depth, CBR slider set to make a file that will be as large to preserve quality and still fit on a DVD (I go for around 4GB or just over)  Stick to CBR as the estimated file size is more accurate than messing about with VBR sliders.  Projects are standard definition, two video sources mixed (full DV) and separate sound source added and synchronised.  I film stage plays with two cameras.  Projects typically between one and a half and two and a half hours long.  This project is actually at the lower end.  No other obvious problems with the PC in general.  Is it worth a system restore?  It was fine for a project similar size rendered last week.  I am asking befoire i try system restore as they are getting hard to do.  They never seem to work unless I remove all my virus protection stuff!  CAn I think of anything different about this project?  Well, only that the venue I was filming in was not quite level, resulting in a bit of an angle that I corrected by tilting the film just a few degrees.  (Only affecting the part of the picture that would be off the TV screen) just to make the stage look level.  I often do this with a few shots from one of the cameras, but maybe not the whole film for both cameras like in this case.  I even tried pressing enter and doing that render thingy before export.  That did not help.  Maybe that is just to get something better in the preview window.  Normally it just takes around half an hour or just over.  Media player can be a bit crackly and choppy playing the rendered movie, but then it is always fine on the DVD so I just put that down to windows media playing being a bit rubbish and not important in my case.  Sorry if I have neglected to tell you anything important.  I usually get told off for this on this forum, but I have tried to give you details about the settings I am using.  The main thing is that I am only doing what I usually do.  If I was exporting to a different format I might expect a different time.  I can tell you that I got bored waiting and cancelled a few times before coming on here.  A couple of times the screen went very white and said windows would close the problemn and notify me of any solution.  Program closed but no useful information (I would not really have expected Windows to give me any!).  Maybe someone here can?   I suppose I had better wait for the three hours or more and at least see what comes out, but cant help being scared it will freeze at 37.34 percent and I will give up after waiting three weeks!  But any suggestions would be helpful.  Sorry not very tech-savvy so please keep it to plain English.  Thanks in advance

Without knowing your computer specs, hard to comment on how long an export ought to take. However, you said yourself that you may have applied rotation to much of the video, and perhaps that is slowing things down from normal.
Please check that your hard drives are defragged and are not getting more than 70-80% full as performance can quickly degrade. I would turn OFF the "Max Bit Depth" and "Max Render Quality" if being used. Should not be needed for DV clips going to DVD. As for pre-rendering the timeline, not recommended. This just adds another layer of compression (quality loss) to the final render, IF you check "Use Previews" in the Export area. If not using Previews, then it is all getting re-rendered anyways, so just a waste of time and drive space really, unless playback is so terrible that you want to render a section to check the results before exporting.
I notice you have MultiPlexing ON for the export - is that how the Sony DVD software wants it? Most authoring programs (like Encore) perform better with separate elements of audio and video, meaning the .wav and .m2v files. Reason being that the DVD program will usually be creating Dolby (AC3) audio for the final DVD, so if you feed it the raw elements, it can convert the .wav to .ac3 quickly, and will NOT need to transcode the video. If you Mux (combine) the audio and video, the audio has then been compressed to lossy MPEG audio, then the DVD software needs to separate the audio and video and re-encode them again in most cases. Not the best workflow. Unless your final DVD uses MPEG audio, but I'm not sure that is a legal part of the spec worldwide, is normally PCM or AC3 for player compatibility.
Not a big fan of anti-virus programs, have found many of the popular ones to really take over and bog down the system. Personally, I use and recommend the free solution of Microsoft Security Essentials. My computer, and those of my kids, have been virus-free the last couple of years since going to that solution, and I see no decrrease in performance and it runs in the background totally transparent to me.
