Insect flew into my MBP?

It appears that a small flying insect of some sort flew into my keyboard as I was using my Macbook Pro. It seems like the insect flew into the small section underneath the bottom of the display. Will this cause any damage to my laptop? Should I take my MBP to an Apple store to remove it? Any help is appreciated!

Is your machine making any noises suggesting that the insect or part of it is stuck in there, e.g. a buzz caused by a fan hitting the insect's body as it spins? If not, chances are that the bug was blown back out again by the fan(s).
Assuming the insect got in between the aluminum lower case and the black plastic strip at the base of the display, it was probably sucked in by the fan(s), passed through the cooling air duct, and was ejected below the display hinge where you wouldn't have seen it emerge. Its chances of surviving the trip would have been negligible, and though it's possible that it got lodged inside, unless it's substantially impeding the airflow or the fan(s), a single very small bug isn't likely to make any difference.

What hard drives can be installed into a MBP?

I'm looking at options for upgrading the internal hard drive on my MBP, and have noticed that there are 250GB 2.5" drives available (e.g. http://www.skycomp.com.au/productinfo.php?productsid=67390). Can you install any old 2.5" drive into a MBP? If so, how hard is it to do? Are there any common gotchas with trying to image the old drive to the new one, esp. when using BootCamp?
Any help much appreciated. Apologies if this is a noob question.

Yes, as long as it's a SATA and not an IDE/ATA drive.

Keep in mind though, that if you do decided to install it yourself you run the risk of voiding the computer's warranty.

Samsung 840 pro ssd into my MBP 8.2

I am putting a Samsung 840 pro ssd into my MBP 8.2, I have my backup hard drive in my dvd place. Is there an easy way to get a clean install on my new drive?

I would recomend before you install the new drive to go to Apple's website and create a Recovery USB

Once you do that you can install your new drive and then you should be able to install OSX from the USB drive.

Bluescreen after plugging an external display into my MBP 2012 under Windows 7 6 bit

After installing the windows updates for windows 7 64bit on my bootcamp partition, i always get a blue screen, when I plug in my external display into my mbp 2012. Before installing those windows update, i didn't have this problem. Also, while running osx the external display works perfektly.
The error message says something about a igdkmd64.sys file beeing responsibe for the bluescreen. I've tried to install the original bootcamp drivers and the newest intel graphics driver, neither resulted in a change. Thank you for your help and pleases excuse my bad english ;-)

Samsung 850 Pro into a MBP (early '11 15") issue

OK, so bear with me as I'm new to this and I hope I get all the information and terms right!
I have just completed a major upgrade on my MBP and am now having issues installing the operating system on my new Samsung 850 Pro SSD.
My system is as follows;
MacBook Pro 15" early 2011 model 8.2
2.2GHz i7 quad core
4GB RAM which I have upgraded to16GB with no issues (I hope?)
500GB HDD has been moved to the optical bay via OWC Data Doubler
Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD installed into main bay
OS X 10.8.5, also a recent upgrade, was running 10.7.5 for years
I can boot the system from the HDD with no issues. I have formatted the SSD to Journal and both disk utility and finder both can see the drive. Now to instal the OS on the SSD.
Plan A; Clone the HDD to the SSD via Disk Utility. I got an error telling me to do this via the recovery disk (obviously) which I did, this resulted in an error stating that the disk didn't have enough space. Not sure how much it needs but the HDD states it is only using 56GB to go into 256GB.
Plan B; Tried to do an install onto the SSD via recovery. This resulted in an error stating that this was not available and to try again later. I have tried several times, at different times of the day, for 2 days now, both using Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections. No luck
Plan C; Tried restoring SSD from a disk image of HDD from an external drive. Same error as plan A.
Plan D; Erased HDD to test if i was doing either plan B or plan C incorrectly. When I attempted to do the install on the HDD via recovery I got the exact same message (frustrating as I have done this several times over the years). Then attempted to restore the HDD from the disk image on the external drive which was successful!
Therefore, after 2 days of back and forth I am back to the beginning, awesome!!!
So I basically need to know how to get OSX 10.8.x on to the SSD so I can use this as my start up disk. I am a Pro Tools user and therefore can only run 10.8.x (the x because it doesn't matter which version). One of my options is to go to my (not so) local Apple store and see if they can run one of their disk images onto the SSD, (this is how I upgraded to 10.8.5) but I can't get there for another week and was hoping to get the system up and running before then as I have some testing to be done.
So here's the big question, what am I doing wrong?

Try going to the App Store Purchases tab on the HDD and download 10.8 to the HDD. When the installer starts, point it at the SSD. Before you install, make a copy of the installer so you won't have to download it again. You can make a bootable USB stick to install using this free program.

I have 2 LaCie Thunderbolt 2 5Big drives. I have been using them successfully with my mbp. I just purchased a Mac Pro and plugged them in and they will not mount. I am stumped as how to get the Mac Pro to recognize them

This is the Mac Pro black cylinder, late 2013 model?
Have you tried one at a time? Have you tried different ThunderBolt ports?
What display are you using and what port is it plugged into? You may want to be sure your drives and your displays are not on the same bus.

How do I import movies from my Samsung Note 3 into my MBP

I have a Samsung Note 3 with videos I've shot for a project... I'm trying to import them into my 15" MacBook Pro for editing in iMovie but I can't get the MBP to recognize the Samsung. I downloaded DoubleTwist--it won't help. Ideas? Thoughts?

The samesung should show up as an external drive once it is connected by a USB cable. Just browse the files on the SS and copy them over to your Mac.
You might have to enable the SS to show as an external drive in the setting of the SS device.

Problem: Plugging an LED-display into my MBP 15"

I recently bought a BenQ G2222HDL 21.5" LED Monitor and I have encountered some problems when trying to connect it to my MBP via the Mini DisplayPort to DVI-adapter.
My MBP (spring 2010) won't find the display but when I try to connect the display to my brothers MB (spring 2009) it works immediatley and it finds the display in no time.
Is there any differences between the Mini DisplayPort on older an newer models of MB?
Have anyone out there encountered the same problem? Anyone got any suggestion on how i can make it work?

When I have to re boot to get a screen that I can see, it gives me a error report, but unfortunately I don't have a apple store anywhere close by, otherwise I would just drop off and see how screwed I would be, since I have no apple warranty nor apple care ;-( !

Recording video into my MBP from my DVR box. Is this possible?

I have a non-Tivo DVR box that came from my cable company. The only way to record from it would be to run from the video and audio outs on the box. Is there any type of unit (USB or Firewire) that will let me use my MBP to record things from the DVR box so I can burn them to DVD later?

This method looks complicated. What do these two requirements mean:
A firewire source for recording. This can be a firewire cable STB, a D-VHS deck, on OTA firewire STB, or a firewire equipped HDTV. See some examples of supported devices are below.
A firewire output device for playback. This can be a firewire HDTV or D-VHS deck.
Looks like the first one is my cable box/DVR while the second one is my tv?? So basically, I'm recording something off my DVR, putting it on my Mac, but then I need to hook it up to my TV in order to play it???
Is there a way to actually keep it on the mac and burn it onto a DVD?

Macbook HDD into 13" MBP?

I've just got my new 13" Macbook Pro, which replaced my 2.2ghz black Macbook.
The first thing I did was pull the 320g hdd out of the MB and install it in the MBP.
Everything is working fine, the battery indicator still seems to think the 100% time is about 3 hours, but I'm thinking it just needs to "learn" the new timings, but otherwise everything is fine. System profiler seems to be correct too, so it appears all good.
I just wanted to ask if its OK to do this? Is my new MBP going to suddenly explode in the very future, or commit suicide, or some other such horrible thing, or is (as I suspect) the OS smart enough to work out what is going on and adjust itself accordingly?

As long as the OS X version and build is the same or later than the one bundled with the computer you should be OK. i would calibrate the battery, but you may instead simply remove the relevant preference files from the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ folder. Basically everything EXCEPT the com.apple.Boot.plist can be removed. Then restart the computer and reconfigure your Network and Energy Saver preferences.

Install Seagate 750GB 7200 into 15" MBP Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz...good idea??

So my AppleCare has just ended and I'm about to 'change tyres' on my MacBook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz by upgrading the tiny 160GB HD to something more spacious.
I've been researching the procedure online, specifically ifixit.com and was initially going to replace HD with a 500GB 7200rpm Seagate - I've just now noticed that there is a 750GB 7200rpm Seagate now available which I think is compatible with my MBP (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Seagate/YST9750420AS/)
(a) Can anybody please confirm this is ok to install? (Size dimensions seem correct 9.5mm (height) x 69.85 (width)
(b) Would there be any heating issues related to it?
(c) How about power.. would it chew up more battery?
(The reason I've opted for 7200 over 5400 is purely for speed.. I regularly use Audio Production apps as well as Photoshop & FCP so figured the faster RPM would be advantageous? RAM is already maxed out)
Look forward to hearing your thoughts as I'd love to order this and have it installed before the new year.

Yes, any 9.5mm high SATA will fit.

The chances are better than even that it will run hotter than your previous drive. All other things being equal (rarely the case), a 7200 will use more power and create more heat.
(c) How about power.. would it chew up more battery?

Again, all other things being equal, a 7200 will certainly be faster.

I've plugged my ipod classic into my mbp 13 inch with retina display but I can't sync or charge it ?

I recently purchased a macbook pro 13 inch with retina display, am having a great time coming over from Windows! I went to try and sync my ipod today for the first time but unfortunately I cannot charge or sync my ipod when connected. I'm using the standard connector that came with my ipod classic and tried both usb ports on the macbook but have had no luck. I tried looking for the ipod as well on the computer but I can't see it .
I'm pretty sure I've done everything correctly, but am still trying to get used to using my macbook so have probably overlooked something !

Did you transfer your iTunes library over to the new mac? If not, you should because once the Mac recognizes your iPod it is going to delete the music on it unless you have transferred the old library.
Your iPod can only be synced with one iTunes library at a time. If you try to sync it to a new computer/iTunes library the process will erase what is currently on the iPod and replace it with the content that is now in your new iTunes library. If possible, copy your entire iTunes library from your PC to your Mac first. Here are a few ways to do it.

Plugged USB into my MBP and it shut down. Doesn't restart, what to do?

I have a MacBook Pro (2009) with an OS Mountain Lion from Austria. Now im in the Philippines and plugged in an USB of a friend and my MacBook shut down.
First I thought I have no battery left, but it that wasn't the case.
Then I saw that the white light next to the Bluetooth thingy is on.
could it be that there is a virus on the USB?

Transferring from camera to external into MBP

While my G5 is in the shop I'm wondering how best to transfer DVX 100B footage to an external IOMEGA FW 800 drive. The drive has an available 400 firewire port and I am using the 800 port going into my MBP. Before I tried going through the 400 fw port in the Iomega I wanted to ask if this is a possibility or would everything start burping and smoking? And is there a better 'plan B' I should be looking into? Thanks.

It took me a while to understand what is happening here - but let me try to recap so I make sure I understand.
You want to take your external drive - send the 800 port to the MBP and send the 400 to the DVX100B - and capture to the drive - basically making your MBP a pass through - and hope that it all plays nice together?
I can tell you - I have done this sort of daisy chaining on a few occasions and not had any issues. However, I didn't do with different FW speeds - but, I don't know if that would matter.
Maybe try to log and capture one clip and see what happens.
I don't think it will burp at you. Maybe ***** and moan...

Uncompressed HDCam into MBP for FCP

Hi All, this is my first post.
I would like to capture uncompressed HDCam into my MBP.
Would it be possible to do this using a Blackmagic Design Decklink Studio Card (designed for the Mac Pro) and a PCI Express adapter?
If anyone has any ideas other than this I would be grateful to hear them or if you have used the above setup and it worked...
