Insert a timer in iMovie 11

I'm doing some sports (track) videos in iMovie 11. I would like to add a transparent timer to the bottom corner (with minutes, seconds, tenths/hundredths). I've read about chroma key and plug ins that used to be around for iMovie 06. Are there any plug-ins or youtube videos that I can use?

Thanks so much Kristin! Very helpful. I can't remember the details but here's what I've done so far and here's a video showing it.
I found a 30 minute count-up clock. Then had a heck of a time downloading a copy into iMovie. I finally found something that worked. http://perian.org/ allowed me to download the clip and save as Quicktime or .MOV if I recall.
I then thought about what you have done. Should I run the video capture non-stop during a 21 minute period of time? I decided to take a different approach. I video as I've always done, recording and pausing between portions of the race as I run to vantage points. I do this because I need to capture sometimes four races a day and don't want to have my batteries die or disk filled before I'm finished.
Important for me was to be sure I was recording when the gun fired. I needed to get the data code (time stamp). An 8AM race might actually go off at 7:57.4 AM according to my camcorder, which is my basis for time.
I also video the display clocks around the course and especially at the finishing chute. My clock displaying in my video needs to match that clock, whether or not I chose to include my clock throughout my entire final cut.
So Here's what I've done. This video shows the race clock in a Pic-In-Pic at various points.

at the 4:20 mark you see 16:02 which is the race clock.
I might try your approach and see how much disk space a full race takes. It would save the editing of the clock (which saves me time) but would also add to the time where I have to edit out large sections of video I don't want. Hmmmm. .... Not sure if there's much difference but may try that.
Long story but I had to upgrade my equipment. My old Sony HD Cam died. I now have two batteries, large internal disk, two SD cards. Enjoying the Florida XC season.

hi, its my first time using imovie and i'm very impressed by this prog. i'm able to figure out how to insert music.... fonts...etc...etc.... but i just cant figure out how to insert photos!!!! horrible!!!
Currently i'm creating my movie using one of the themes in the program. Everything's done except inserting picture's in those grey boxes.
How do i do that?

How do I insert a picture into iMovie regardless of aspect ratio

When I insert a picture, i either have the choice of cropping the picture or having black bars on the sides. How can I insert a picture into imovie and not be dictated based on the aspect ratio. thanks

I'm currently working on a youtube video.
I've taken the screenshots I need for my video, and I need to insert them somehow into iMovie.
iMovie is the program I am going to use to make my video, since it has lots of different resources to use, effects, titles, it's amazing!
It's for a virtual world I play (I'm 9.) ourWorld. I'm making Safe & Sound by Taylor Swift.

There are 3 ways to do it.
1) Drag the screen shots into iPhoto and then restart iMovie. You can drag them in from the Photo Browser.
2) If you have Aperture, drag the shots into Aperture and then restart iMovie. You can drag them in from the Photo Browser.
3) Put the screenshots in a Finder folder. You can drag from the Finder into your iMovie Project. If you do it this way, make sure it is in a folder that you will not move for as long as you want to edit this movie.
Once they are in iMovie, use the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns Tool to set them to FIT. This will let you see the entire screen shot in your movie.

How do I insert chapter markers in iMovie '11?

In my various Google searches, I keep reading references to inserting chapter markers in iMovie, usually earlier versions. How can I manually insert chapter markers using iMovie '11? I really don't want to use iDVD, which apparently only lets you select how many minutes are between each chapter.

enable "show advanced tools" in iMovie preferences then you will see the little balloon indicated by the arrow.
drag it where you want to have your chapter in the project, give it a name, you're done.
when you'll export your movie and have it in idvd you'll automatically have the movie split in the chapters you've made.

Orchestration Instance - message data being inserted multiple times to database

I have a Transactional Scope orchestration which has an expression shape which writes unique messages to a custom database using helper - ADO.Net. We are noticing that when the BizTalk server (BTS 2009) is under stress few messages are
getting inserted multiple times. On further researching we have narrowed down the cause to be that when there is a delay in ADO.NET insert command completion, the orchestration engine wait threshhold is met and decides to dehydrate. But if around
the same time the ADO.NET insert completes and then after some time orchestration rehydrates and resumes from last persistence point, it inserts the message again causing the duplicates. Has anyone seen such behavior?

Yeah, we knew only other alternative is to use the WCF-SQL Adapter and include in Orchestration transaction - saw this pattern somewhere, do not want to use atomic scopes as it could lead to blocking. I'm sure there are several implementations out there
that user helper classes to do DB insert/updates and should have seen a similar issue.
I just want to make sure we are not missing something here. I strongly feel Microsoft BizTalk team should clearly state in their documentation that helper DB insert/updates should be avoided or put it in their best practices so that developers
dont have to figure this out the hard way.

You may try to call helper class from map inside Receive/send port using XSLT templates. Then you don't have to worry about orch. And in send port advanced properties you can set re-try to '0' so it doesn't try again 3 times. Either it fails first go and completes
once.

Before going to buy a new webcam or software I wanted to make sure if frame rate is limited by the capacity of the HD webcam or the softwares itself in MBPs.

Message is inserting multiple times in target system

Dear Experts,
We are using MDM to JDBC system. we are sending 2 sales Org and multiple plants in sender XML message we had done a mapping by spliting 2 sales Org x No.of Plants (Eg: 2 sales Org x 5 Plants = Total 10 records to be inserted at target system).
But we observed all the 10 records are inserted 4 times with the time interval of every 5 mins in target system.
Pls let us know the solution if you have come across this kind of issues.

Data is inserting in target system and we are getting error in RWB communication channel monitoring.The message is processed 4 times and failed all the times and the time interval between each processing is 5min.
In adapter engine the message status is successful for 1time and system error in other time.

Yes, that little piece of info is critical. I'd say the biggest difficulty with FCPX is the whole new language.
If I read you correctly, your Audio is in the Main Storyline (Track 1 in plain old Editorese). This makes anything else you add (above or below) a "connected clip", which we can no longer think of as "Track 2" because Jobs sez so. So, yes, you cannot just add a transition to either end of a connected clip.
No argument with Tracy's solution, because I haven't seen any other general solution presented for any attempt to treat connected clips as the main storyline. And, of course, when they were "track 1" and "track 2", you could.
An alternative solution, however, is to highlight the connected clip and press Ctrl-V to bring up the Video Animation Editor. Click the "reveal button" for Compositing: Opacity (bottom, right). Once open, there is a "fade handle" to the right top. Drag it left for however much fade you wish. (there is one on the left as well, but you were only talking about a fade-out.)
A second alternative, perhaps for future projects where everything keys on audio, may be to create a Gap clip (used to be called slug) in the primary storyline before ever dropping in the audio. Then you can add video to the main story line and modify it without having to go thru hoops to do the simplest thing.

Is it possible to insert a time clock in iMovie project?

I'm making for myself an iMovie project of doing pushups (the goal, of course, is to gradually do more pushups).
Is there any kind of "effect" that I could insert into the iMovie project, which displays the time? (like a little stopwatch?)
Or, does iMovie have a "built-in" function which will display the time of the clip (in a stopwatch-type fashion)?

The easiest way I can think of is to record a close-up of a clock and then use this movie clip as Picture in Picture and this function is in iMovie'09 and 11. iMovie'08 - don't think so - at least I've not found it. iMovie up to HD6 - there are such function and many more can be added as plug-ins ( iMovie'08 and futhur has put an end to Plug-ins )

Inserting Date & Time in picture

Hi,
I am new to Adobe, after strugling to get iMovie to produce a decent HD movie, I am delighted with Premiere Elements 9 so far. I am, however, asking for help and assistance in trying to insert the date & time (that the footage was shot) into text on the screen. iMovie had this function which was very useful for home movies, but I cannot find this option? Also, I have run a test video and have found a sound/video sync problem. I am not running anti-virus software as I have a MAC and the saved movie is being exported to an external HDD through firewire. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Welcome to the forum.
PrE does not have a direct way to do this, however, you can create a Title, and manually add the time/date as text.
There is a program, DVDate, that might prove to be helpful, though it's not a plug-in for PrE, so there is still some additonal work in the normal workflow.

Don't think that would work. Since my "system date" is already set at 2007. I have 2 imports, one has the year as 2048, and the other at 2016!! I don't know where they are getting these dates from, but they are not the system date.
Were the files imported directly from a camcorder or from files already on your hard drive? In the first case the year may have been taken from the time "stamp" recorded when the footage was shot (which may or may not have been correctly set by the user). On the other hand, files imported from the hard drive seem to be keyed to the date the imported file is written to the "Events" folder which, of course, reflects the current system time/date setting. That's why I said you had to then import (re-import) the files from a hard drive source -- i.e., to ensure the DTG would be re-written.

Data inserting two times in a table when i click submit button

I had a problem, when i am inserting data in a table from a form at the first time when i click button it adds two times, afterwards it is adding one time only, the form and table are from same value node (table is collection cardinality : 1..n and selection cardinality is 0..n) i don't understand why it is happening here?
