Insert avi in imovie hd 6

hello,
i am creating a wonderful dvd of my hollidays... And i would like to insert a small avi (divx) video inside it... also, i would like to insert a piece of another dvd. (these divx and dvd, i created them a long time ago, and i don't have the original dv files any more)... So, no copyright on my avi files nor on my dvd...
Do you know a way for me to insert a avi movie and a video coming from a dvd ? is there a program i could use to convert the video to a format that would be accepted in imovie hd6 ?

a well reputated "convert almost anything" tool is VisualHub
but for divx, my guess is, you need this plug-in

and for converting videoDVDs, I recommend DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)

Playing inserted avi files in Adobe Acrobat 9 or later

A user has inserted avi files into Adobe and it always worked up to version 8.1.
Any version later than that, the avi files will not play anymore.
Is there any way to make them play or will all his files need converted to another source?
Converting them all to a different format would be quite the task as there are many videos involved.

You can't edit Excel files in Adobe Acrobat.

How do you split a clip to do an insert edit in iMovie 08? I have a single, long event that I'd like to do insert editing on. I'd also like to insert transitions. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

1) Move a clip (or any portion thereof) from your Event clip to your project and place it where you need it.
2) With the newly added clip still selected in your project, grasp and move the right and left handles to set the exact frames you wish to use as your "in" and "out" points.
3) Select the "Spit" option to segment the selected area into what you want to keep and what you don't need.
4) Select the segment(s) you don't want and press the "Delete" key to remove it/them from the project window.
5) Repeat as needed to create your sequence of segments and then add titles and transitions as needed.
Note: Since your editing in iMovie '08 is non-linear, non-destructive, and "by-reference," you can source the same content multiple times to a single project or even to multiple projects and overlap your "splits" since they are "logical" rather than physical.

.AVI to imovie 09

I have tried mpeg clipstream to convert a avi file and i can see the video but no sound. would it be easier to convert the file on my pc before i move them to iphoto via an external hd, if so what format is the most imovie 09 compatable.

.avi is not a format - it is merely a container for formats of various kinds.
You need to convert your .wmv video using something like this:

My camera creates .avi files, imovie can't read them

I have a camera that creates .avi files and I wanted to use imovie if possible or another software to create movies if imovie won't work, can anyone suggest what I need to do?

The video codec is not recognized. Very likely a proprietary format that is only works with Windows. You need someone who can read the files on a Windows system and convert them to an industry standard codec such as DV.
Who is the manufacturer and what is the model number of this camera?

Edit .avi in iMovie

I have an .avi 85MB clip that I want to edit in iMovie. It was filmed on a digital "still photography" camera. When I go to open it in QuickTime, it was playing just the audio; the video was just a white screen. Same thing happened when I imported clip into iMovie (audio fine, but no video).
So I read through these forums and found a suggestion to add the Perian.org component. As soon as I would open the file in QT or iMovie, the program would "unexpectedly" quit. I downloaded the VLC media player and can now view the video clip fine, but I still can't edit it in iMovies.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advanced. Some of you are VERY smart and resourceful; I'm amazed!

Before you can send the file to an app like iMovie it must first play correctly in QuickTime Player. Your file doesn't.
Open the file in the QuickTime Player and then open the Movie Info window.
In it you should see the video codec used in the file (Format:) and a Google search for codec name +Mac should help you find what you need.

Inserting photo in iMovie, becomes still frame of video before it.

When I insert a photo into my iMovie it creates a still frame of the video before. Doesn't matter where in the clips I put it and I've tried dragging a photo in from Finder and using the iPhoto in the iMovie application. And, if I put a photo after a photo, the second photo becomes a still frame of the first photo. Help!

make a selection of an Event and add it to the Project
select a title and drag it onto the clip?

Video format .avi and iMovie

Hi,
i am now starting on iMovie HD. I use a Casio Exilim s-600 for video shooting. Problem: the recording format is AVI.
I run the divX codec Pro on my desktop, which i expected to enable Quicktime to read those.
I unfortunately only have the sound and a white screen. Consequently, I can not use any of these in iMovie.
Is there any additional codec enabling or any foramt converter that can turn into the proper format, and if so, which format?
I am only starting in movie editing and not fully aware of what and what is not possible between formats.
Any tip will be of great help.

I downloaded the Casio program. As part of the installation, one is asked to drag the Casio component over QuickTime in the Library folder. My Library folder does not have any QuickTime file/folder. Should it?

Trouble inserting photos into iMovie

I am trying to import some photos into iMovie that I copied from a website. When I try to insert them from a file on my desktop, where I saved them, I only get a portion of the photo. I went back to the folder and opened each picture outside of iMovie and they are complete pictures of high resolution. When I insert them, they turn out to be a part of the photo in low resolution. Ideas?

You might also try dragging the folder into iphoto and see if they will import there. Then access them from within imovie. If iphoto won't see them then you will need to convert them like was already suggested.

Inserting Transitions in iMovie HD 6

Is there a way with maybe AppleScript or something that I can insert DIFFERENT transitions after every 6th still picture. I am using Geethree transitions too.

Sorry, iMovie doesn't offer that transition feature, nor does iMovie support Applescript. The only way I know to add a transition is to manually add it to the Timeline.
Regrettably, sometimes Apple doesn't eat its own dog food.

Problem inserting photos in Imovie project

i have what seems an unusual problem inserting photos into one of my projects. some photos insert fine however others that are dragged into the project dont appear when the video is played. the bar does however appear above the video clip showing that the photo has been inserted and the duration can be toggled.
i then tried inserting the same photo into another short project and it worked fine?!
has anyone come across this? would really appreciate your help as trying to put together a video clip for a wedding which is taking place in a few days!!

I have also tried deleting the com.apple.imovie.plist ... I don't have one to delete ?? And, I tried repairing disk permissions with disk utility ... no change. I have also tried changing the title of the project. These same pictures can be added into any other project ... I'm going CRAZY!

Inserting arrows into Imovie '11

I need to insert an arrow into a movie to highlight a certain point. Posts in Imovie '10 tell you how to do this very easily, this however does not work for Imovie'11. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You need to go to the iMovie Mac forum.
But you should check your export settings.
The preview that you see on the edit window is a preview, and not meant to be the final quality.
Also if you are editing an SD project it will resize to SD resolution.
If you're losing bit depth then look at what quality you are editing at.
Video is not 48 bit, and will never look as good as a full resolution photo still.

I have created an IMovie project and how do I insert additional photos in a desired sequence? I have a certain sequence of events planned, in a certain chronological order and I want to edit a certain part of the project. How do I do this? Thanks.

May be I misunderstand's this but
Open Media and here Photos (the Camera icon)
Select the photo needed.
Drag and drop it ONTOP of the Video-Clip in Your movie (where You want it to be) and then from the now un-folding menu select - CUTAWAY -
And the photo will be inserted in Your movie without any change in Audio or over-all duration.

Important wmv / files converted from wmv to avi into imovie - PROBLEM!

I feel like I'm going insane with this.
I had the same problem on '08 as I do on '09.
I make youtube videos and I am trying to open some clips that were edited on a PC by other youtube users (who have emailed them to me for a group project). They won't open in imovie. If I convert the file to .avi or .m4v or even .mp4 using Handbrake, they still won't import into imovie.
I don't know what to do and there aren't that many threads about this online.
The closest I've got is this information I found on one thread:
iMovie '08 will only allow you to to import files containing compression formats that can be edited. If your AVI file won't import, it likely means that the audio and/or video data is not editable. To import it, you will have to first convert it to any of the acceptable compression formats. For video this means DV, AIC, M-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264.
Can anyone help me?
I've wasted such a lot of time on this.
I have Flip4Mac (free) and I can't export a wmv file on it unless I buy Quicktime Pro but I'm loathe to buy it on the offchance by converted file still won't open in imovie

Nope, QT Pro does not export to wmv, but the PAID FOR version of Flip4Mac does that conversion!

How to import .mpg or .avi into iMovie

A company is digitising my old Super8 movies to either .mpg or .avi. Which of these can be imported to iMovie so I can edit the material myself?

I would use MPG as AVI is a toss up. MPEG1 will import. You will need the QT MPEG-2 if they are MPEG-2's and them may have to rip it though MPEG Stream clip. See DVD ripping video for example:
