Insert CD, have it import AND play CD after current song automatically?

I'd like to be able to just insert a CD, walk away from the computer, and have i-Tunes import songs and and start playing them automatically... is this possible? My i-Tunes happily continues playing its current playlist, without ever switching to CD.

Well, play songs while importing or converting is already checked. And it does indeed play songs if I'm not already listening to something else. But if I am, the playlist continues playing, and the CD is happily ignored. I don't want to have to interrupt the current song; instead, I just want the CD to cue up next.

Select a song to play next (after current song)

I love iTunes, but for me it's just missing one thing....
I can't (at least I don't know how) select a certain song from my playlist to play AFTER the current song is finished... If it would have that function, or a way to do this, it would be ALL I need for a music player.
Is there a way in iTunes to select the song to play next?
And/or arrange your playlist in the way (the order of songs) you want?

iTunes doesn't have the "queuing" option you describe (except within the Party shuffle function which queues songs and within which you can drag songs into order). If you'd like to see an option like this in some futer version of iTunes you can send feedback/feature requests directly to Apple at this link: Apple Product Feedback

Open the playlist and click on the number column (extreme left). Click on the song you want to move, hold down the mouse button and drag the song to where you want it to be. Make sure neither Shuffle or Repeat are switched on in the playlist, either of those can prevent you reordering tracks.

Importing and playing store bought CDs

Just got an I Pod Nano & a great sounding Altec Lansing docking/speaker system. Began syncing songs that I already imported into I Tunes. Of course I also began importing more songs from store bought CDs. Just started having a problem with a majority of my CDs - when I click on import - songs won't import. Status bar never appears and 1st song to import just sticks. Also can't play the CD in I Tunes to listen to it. But........ some of my CDs will still import and play just fine?????????? Have tried changing preferences for the Encoder but nothing seems to work. I have to force quit the App & relaunch it every time. If I try the same CD again I get the same results??????

There have been a bunch of similar problems reported here lately. The only suspicious thing in your diagnostics is the Gear drivers, so the first thing to try is to update your Gear firmware. Then retry with iTunes.
I'm wondering if it might be my CD/DVD RW playing up.
If the CD rips OK in another program, it is probably not a drive problem.

Trouble importing and playing video in Lightroom 5

I mainly use Lightroom for photos, but I do use it to organize my videos. Lightroom 5.3 on a Macbook Pro running OS 10.9.2.
Videos from all of our iPhones import and play perfeclty.
Video from the Nikon D90 will import sometimes, but will rarely play. You can scroll across the preview icon and see the video, but when you click on to play it, it will only play a few seconds of the video but will continue to play the audio.
I have converted the .avi files to .m4v in order to play in iTunes and Apple TV. I've tried importing the .m4v files to Lightroom as well but always get an error: "Connecting to dynamic link server failed."
Not sure what is going on or what I may be doing wrong. I've successfully imported the videos from the camera to Aperture. Not sure why I can't get Lightroom to work.

Exact same problem as well. When I try to import CDs either in iTunes or Windows Media Player I have problems. iTunes will play a track or two, but usually the imports ring in around 755 minutes and change and are corrupt. Windows Media Player has similar issues.
What's strange is that my drive works just fine for burning DVDs, installing software from disc, or watching DVD movies, so I'm a little in the dark. Any ideas?

Do your videos play in QuickTime Playerwhen you reveal one of them in the Finder with "File > Reveal > Original"? Try to open the revealed movie in QuickTime and see if it plays.
Check the format of the movie. You can see it in the Inspector in QuickTime Player from the "WIndow" menu: Window > Show Inspector.
iPhoto does not support all movie formats and codecs that QuickTime player can play, and not all frame rates.

If the movie does not play in QuickTime Player either, install QuickTime 7 for more codecs.

Unable to drag and drop mp4 movies into itunes but the file will import and play using home sharing

Strange problem with my brothers MacBook.
The movie files were converted to mp4 format ready to be played on an iphone and I imported them into my iTunes on an iMac with no problems.
Files were also saved onto a flash drive which I passed on to my brother.
My brother was unable to import files by drag and drop and also by "add to library", we even copied and pasted files from the flash drive to the desktop but that also didn't work.
Using "home sharing the movies imported and played with no problems.
Any ideas why this is happening?

HT1657 I have downloaded Flight and playing for keeps. I keep trying to download and watch on apple tv and they are just taking too long to download. Can I get credited for both of these since I'm not able to watch them.

I understand that the display on your iPod nano (7th generation) is not responding to your touch as you would expect. In this situation, I would recommend reading over the attached article and working through the steps within to help resolve this issue.

Display
Follow these steps if your iPod doesn't respond to your input or has a display-related issue.
Screen is unresponsive and displays Apple logo or white screen
Reset iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and Home button until you see the Apple logo appear. If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes.
If the Apple logo does not appear, or if the iPod is not seen in iTunes, connect it to iTunes and try to restore.
Touch screen does not accept input
Clean the screen with a microfiber polishing cloth.
Do not wear gloves while using the touchscreen. Do not use the touchscreen with wet hands or immediately after applying hand lotion. Moisture affects touchscreen behavior in the same manner as it affects a trackpad.
If you have a protective plastic sheet or film on the touchscreen, try removing it, because it may be preventing the touchscreen from working properly.
The current application may be unresponsive; try resetting iPod by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home buttons simultaneously for a least six seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Sync with iTunes and restore the iPod.

On each of the phones you're gonna use a new Apple ID for iCloud: turn off Contacts, Calendars, etc. for iCloud. You'll be prompted to keep the data or delete it from the phone, then turn off iMessage, FaceTime & delete the iCloud account...Settings>iCloud...scroll down...delete account. Then, setup iCloud using the new Apple ID, turn on iMessage & Facetime.
This will have no affect on the ID you share for iTunes content, & you can continue to do so.

Change import and play settings

I do not want to import every audio CD I place in my PC.. In iTunes, I Changed Preferences, to PLAY, not import; then to SHOW, not import.
It still imports no matter what.
I then went to the CD, changed my "OPEN WITH" to WMP, instead of itunes, as my default; buy itunes still opens/imports CD.
Prior to this itunes update, all was well. I could even change to Real Player as my default if I wanted to. Now,
seems itunes has taken over and I can not change a thing.

Hey. It seems you got the import settings switched over to .MP3, so what you need to do now is right click on the songs you want to convert to MP3 and select the "Create MP3 Version" option. This will cause it to create a duplicate version on each song you select that is in MP3 format. (You can choose whether or not you want to delete the original .m4a file.) After you have converted the songs you want to mp3 format, you can just drag the song from within iTunes to a folder on the flash drive and it will copy the song to the new location.

Importing and Playing CDs.

I have a problem when I try to import tracks from a CD into my iTunes library.
Problem:
The import appears to start properly, then around 30% of the way through track 1 my cd drive goes crazy and iTunes skips to the next track and then through all the rest of the tracks on the cd.
The songs do end up in the library but they all have a length of 789:53:12 and won't play.
Similarly when trying to play a CD iTunes plays the first 50ish seconds of track 1 then skips to track 2 and plays around 6 seconds and then skips through them all again.
This is obviously a very frustrating issue
Computer is new. Has the latest version of iTunes, has the latest drivers for cd/dvd player.
Here is the diagnostic if it helps, oddly I am running Vista Home Premium though this says xp service pack 2.

It's been 3 weeks and still can't read CDs into Itunes even though Windows Media Player has no problems. I did everything suggested in article 93453 "iTunes for Windows: Can't Import or Play Music From Audio CD"
What I tried: Updated version of Itunes; deactivated Norton Internet security; clicked desktop to deactivate, then activate Itunes; deleted MusicMatch Jukebox; new firmware in CD/DVD player; REPLACED CD/DVD PLAYER!!

You have to keep bumping the thread if I don't notice it and I'm not often around on weekends.
What have we done to debug this? Did we go to support site and download new firmware for the "NEC NR-9100A HH 40X CDRW" and the "nVidia 64MB DDR GeForce4 Ti 4200"? Did we try temporarily removing the other CD drivers to see if there's a conflict?
On the start menu, click on "run". in the space it provides enter "regedit" without the quotes. This will open the registry editor.
Find the heading HKEYLOCALMACHINE. Click on it.
Find the heading SYSTEM inside it. Click on it.
Find the heading CurrentControlSet. Click
Find the heading Control. Click
Find the heading Class. Click
Find the heading that begins {4D36E965- Click
Go up to the Registry menu and select "Export Registry File... command. Make sure the "Selected Branch" radio button is checked and save that off somewhere that you can find it.
Delete the key named LowerFilter.
Select the key named UpperFilter, right click, select "modify". Then edit the text in the dialog to just say "GEARAspiWDM" followed by hitting the return key, the return after the word is important.
Then reboot, and see what iTunes does.
To get the system back to its previous state. Run Regedit again and use the Registry menu -> Import Registry File... command and select the file that you saved off in the first section.
