Insert data from XML in a BLOB column to a table
I have a situation where my source table has a blob column and an XML file is loaded into it.
Whenever an insert into the table happens I need to read the XML and insert the values from XML to a target table .
I have done it with oracle inbuilt parser and tokens but this will do a call to the database when already the data is available on the extract file.That would mean a lower performance .
Can someone help me maybe with some userexit or something
Thanks in advance

How to insert Data from a function on server A into a table on Server B.
Hi,
I have a function which is like this
DECLARE @oldmax bigint, @newmax bigint
SELECT @oldmax = max(exportTimestamp) FROM EXPORT_TIMESTAMPS
IF @oldmax IS NULL
SET @oldmax = 0
SELECT * FROM ServerA.TableA.fnExportTrafficTS(@oldmax) ORDER BY storeID, TrafDate
SELECT @newmax = max(timestamp) FROM TRAFFIC t
IF @newmax > @oldmax
INSERT INTO EXPORT_TIMESTAMPS
VALUES(@newmax, GETDATE())
And now i need to insert the data coming out of this function into ServerB Table B
And the column names and everything coming out of the function is the same columns in Table B.So, no need to worry there.
I have never worked with inserting data from function through linked server.
Can someone please help me with this?
Thanks,
SujithWell, first of all, your table structure doesn't match the structure of returned table by your table-valued function.
This is what table valued function returns:
[storeID] varchar(32) default('noRefID'),
[TrafDate] [datetime] default(NULL),
[QtyTraffic] [float] default(0)
And this is what your table structure is:
[tUTL_JobLogging_Key] [int] NOT NULL,
[StoreId] [varchar](10) NULL,
[TrafDate] [datetime] NULL,
[Visits] [numeric](8, 2) NULL
Apart from different size for the StoreID and using float vs. numeric and different name for the last column, there is one extra column in your table.
So, this is the first problem you need to correct.
Also, please post how exactly you're calling your procedure? E.g. the procedure has 2 parameters, but the values of them are not used as you're calculating them in the code. So, I assume they should not be parameters for the procedure.

Import/insert data from XML into Oracle database tables?
Hi. (I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 and Oracle 10g)
I have been able to export the data from one of my database tables by using a View Object and .writeXML.
Now, I want to take an xml file that is formatted in the same way as what is spit out by the writeXML and put that info in my database table. I followed online examples and have tried using .readXML like so:
Element element = XMLDoc.getDocumentElement();
vo.readXML(element, -1);
I know it is sort of working, because at first I got an error message that one of the required attributes was missing. So, I added that attribute to my xml file and ran my code. No errors. But, I checked my database, and the new records were not added.
Is there something I have done wrong? Or is there perhaps something I left out? I also noticed there were several versions of readXML like readFromXML. Which one should I use and how?
Thanks.KUBA, I changed my code to match your example:
DocumentBuilder db = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance().newDocumentBuilder();
File xmlFile = new File("C:/myfilehere.xml");
Document doc = db.parse(xmlFile);
Element element = doc.getDocumentElement();
vo.readXML(element, -1);
vo.getDBTransaction().commit();
I still get no errors, but my database table has no new records.
Any ideas why?
Thanks. -
Inserting data from xml to multiple tables
I have a requirement that i have to validate the xml file against the dtd and then insert the xml file data into multiple tables.Can anyone help me out on that front. I am developing a java application. Can i pass the xml file through stored procedure.???
Any links to code or document regarding the above stated req will be appriciated
Thanks in advance..This forum is dedicated to XML Type and XML DB which are features of the 9i and 9iR2 database. Questions related to XDK technology and legacy version of the database should be posted in the XML forum...

I suspect that XDK technology may be a better solution to your problem -
[ECC6] Inserting data from internal table (deep structure) into db table
Hi experts,
I have a problem when inserting data from IT using deep structure into a database table. Please help:
I have one database table with 2 columns ZTest (col1, col2). Col1 is key.
In my program I have a deep structure t_screen using table type lvc_t_scol:
In 4.6c systems, the INSERT statement works well but it does not work in ECC6 systems.
DATA: BEGIN OF t_screen OCCURS 0,
rec_count(3) TYPE n,
col1 LIKE ZTest-col1,
col2 LIKE ZTest-col2.
DATA: ct TYPE lvc_t_scol.
DATA: END OF t_screen.
t_screen-col1 = 'test1'.
t_screen-col2 = 'test1'.
APPEND t_screen.
t_screen-col1 = 'test2'.
t_screen-col2 = 'test2'.
APPEND t_screen.
INSERT ZTest FROM TABLE t_screen ACCEPTING DUPLICATE KEYS.
Currently I have an idea using a temporary internal table with the same structure as ZTest. Use MOVE-CORRESPONDING statement to move data from t_screen table to temporary table before inserting --> It worked. But do you have any ideas without using temporary table?Hi
There are a large number of stataments couldn't be supported in unicode system and so it doesn't allow to do it in ECC 6.
U need to delete the deep structure from your defination:
DATA: BEGIN OF t_screen OCCURS 0,
rec_count(3) TYPE n,
col1 LIKE ZTest-col1,
col2 LIKE ZTest-col2.
DATA: ct TYPE lvc_t_scol. "<-------- Error is here
DATA: END OF t_screen.
So u need to use a structure like this to update your table:
DATA: BEGIN OF T_ZTEST OCCURS 0,
rec_count(3) TYPE n,
col1 LIKE ZTest-col1,
col2 LIKE ZTest-col2.
DATA: END OFT_ZTEST.

How to fetch data from XML and store it in internal table
Hi All,
Can anyone help me out, in fetching data from xml and store it in an internal table. Is there any standard function module is there?
Regards,
Karthickto do this you can either develop a XSLT program and use it with CALL TRNSFORMATION key word to tranform the XML into itab .
(search the ABAP General forum, i have posted few samples)
or simply use the following FM which converts your XML into a itab of name value pair (name would holw the element name and value would hold the value of the element) which you can then loop and read it to your itb.
data: xmldata type xstring .
data: result_xml type standard table of smum_xmltb .
data: return type standard table of bapiret2 .
CALL FUNCTION 'SMUM_XML_PARSE'
EXPORTING
xml_input = xmldata
TABLES
xml_table = result_xml
return = return .

So i logged in as sys & grant the permission to execute on UTL_FILE to ridb (user):
SQL Statement:
grant execute on utl_file to ridb
So, it got compiled successfully but when i execute it gives me error as:
Source does not have a runnable target.
What does this mean?
So I browse through forum & i got to know that i need to initial the UTL_FILE_DIR ="C:/OracleProject" in init.ora
So can i edit the init.ora with notepad.When i tried to do that it says permission denied
In my system it shows the init.ora file in path C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\config\scripts
but there is also other file initXETemp in the same path do i need to do the changes in it.
I have tried even editing the SPFILE as mentioned below:
C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\dbs\SPFILEEXE - I had edit this file using notepad & set the value of UTL_FILE_DIR ="C:/OracleProject". So next time when i restarted i'm unable to log on to the database.
So i had reinstall the software again.
Could you please let me know how to proceed..hi,
I have created the directory from sys database
CREATE or replace DIRECTORY XML_DIR2 AS 'C:\OracleProject';
& grant read,write access to the user
grant read,write on directory XML_DIR2 to RIDB;
& i had change the tag name in the xml file as shown below:

RandomAccessFile? If you know where you want to insert it.Are you sure about this? If using this, the receiving file would have to have bytes inserted that exactly match the number of bytes replaced. I'm thinking that you'll likely have to stream through the second XML with a SAX parser and copy information (or insert new information) as you stream with an XML writer of some sort. -

Regards,
ZhuozhiIf the files are small, you can load the target file in a DOM document, insert the data from the source file and persist the DOM.
If the files are large, you probably want to use a StAX or SAX. -

If so, I don't think that ever really caught on. Most programmers store the raw data, then pull it out and populate a class. The problem with storing the object is that new versions of classes come out and your old version is stored in the database. If you just store the data, you don't have to worry about what version is in the database. You can populate the new version of the class with the same data.
Also, others can use sql to query your data and use it for their own use independent of what you intended it for. I think most people use the (browser) based utility that comes with the database to create the tables, normalize them, set up primary keys, set up foreign keys, etc rather then run an sql statement as you did above. -
Inserting data from Oracle to SQL Server 2008
Hi All,
I am using oracle 9.2.0.7 and SQL server 2008 in windows server 2003 operating system.
My requirment is like below.
1) I would liek to insert data from the Oracle database to SQL Server.
For the above requirement we have created the ODBC, then configure the listener file, tns file, and created the db link. This part is working fine as I am able to select the data from the SQL Server.
But when I am inserting the record from the oracle database to the SQL Server I am getting the error, (ORA-00904) Here oracle can not identified the column name.
My insert statement is like below.
insert into test@SQLTEST (name, fullname)
values ('Oracle', 'Oracle server data');
Test is the SQL server table name and sqltest is the db link name.
If I am select the data
select * from test@SQLTEST from Oralce I am getting the data properly.
Thanks,
SUN

I modify the column name as "f_name" and "l_name";
Still I am getting the same error;

Storing data from XML files in Oracle DB
Hi!
I just started to work with XML and need to save data from XML files into Oracle database. I tried to run sample from Oracle web site. The code was following:
public class xmlwritedb
public static void main(String args[]) throws SQLException
String tabName = "EMP"; // Table into which to insert XML data
String fileName = "emp.xml"; // XML document filename
DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
// Initialize a JDBC connection
Connection conn =
DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:oci8:scott/tiger@");
// Insert XML data from file (filename) into
// database table (tabName)
OracleXMLSave save = new OracleXMLSave(conn, tabName);
URL url = save.createURL(fileName);
int rowCount = save.insertXML(url);
System.out.println(" successfully inserted "+rowCount+
" rows into "+ tabName);
conn.close();
But it does not work.
OracleXMLSave object does not see file name.
Please, help me solve this problem. Also,where is it possible to find any documentation on oracle.xml.* classes API.
Thank you.
Maya.
