Insert random transitions between photo's

Hi,
im making a dvd with a few hundred photo's. Is there a way to insert random transitions between the photo's? i dont want to have all the same transitions between the photo's, just evey time a different one.
thnx

Like Lennart, I'm not a big fan of random transitions. But if you like them you may want to explore iPhoto, which offers that feature for slideshows as well as random Ken Burns Effects (which often turn out quite nice).
Remember, it's possible to export an iPhoto slideshow that you import to iMovie.

  • Can I turn off fade transition between photos in iPhoto 09?

When browsing photos full screen in iPhoto 09 (using the arrow keys to advance photos) there is a fade effect inserted at the transition between photos. This was not there in iPhoto 08, and I think I actually liked it better without the fade.
Is there a way to turn off the fade transition in iPhoto 09?

No - it is not an option
You can request Apple to consider a change in a future update - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback

  • How do I adjust iMovie to not cut off part of the photo image as it transitions between photos?

How do I adjust iMovie to not cut off part of the photo as it transitions between photos?

Have you transferred photos from your computer to your iPhone which is selected under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?
If so, you can place this video in the folder of photos on your computer that is selected to be transferred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process. Under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, select Include Videos.

  • Having trouble with transitions between photos for project...

I tried doing what it said under Troubleshooting but it won't work. Is there a way to have a transition automatically between photos instead of manually putting them there? (kind of like iDVD). I did it individually but then it wouldn't work or the transition time between is too short.

If you don't have a mouse with a right click, just use the drop down menu. File/Project Properties.
If you have a laptop, I am sure there is a key sequence that simulates a right click. I don't have a laptop, so I don't know what it is. If you have an apple mighty mouse, you can set up right-clicking in the system preferences / keyboard and mouse menu.
Open project space is the gray space behind the clips. It may be a different color if you have added music.

  • Transition between photos

I have been having a problem with the transition between clips on my iMovie. it still goes from clip to clip but is really choppy. I've tried removing the photo and replacing it but that hasn't seemed to help. I want a slide show that is smooth and not cheesy looking. can someone help me?

That sounds like a rendering problem with your computer. If you download iStat from the internet and go to System Preferences and turn it on, does your computer show that it is using all its CPU or memory to play back your video? If so, leave iMovie for a while and then come back to it and play it again. Is it now smooth?

  • Screensaver, random transitions and random photos

Hi all, a simple question I hope.
How can I create a screensaver which will display random photos from my library with random transitions between photos?
I've got the random photos part working but despite many hours, I can't work out how get random transitions in the screensaver.
    Many Thanks

  • Blank image between photo transitions

I am using the overlap type of transition between photos and for some reason I am getting a sudden blank image prior to each of the transition effects. I have done this before without any problems, I do not know why I have this problem now. Each photo duration is 10 seconds and the transition is 2 seconds. I have varied the duration of both the photo and the transition (up and down), but it has not helped. I will appreciate any help. I am using a MacBook with OS 10.4.8 and iMovie 6.0.3(267.2)

Please bear with me, remedina. Can I guess at a solution? I've never personally seen this problem, but it's been reported here from time to time. I don't think the cause has been found, nor a good solution.
(To find other topics about it, search this forum for "Transition and black and frame", without the quotes. Ignore topics discussing black frames in the preview when importing images. Different problem.)
For the record, is the "blank" frame black or white?
My guess is iMovie is getting the math wrong while building the transition. Perhaps it's building a transition clip that is 99 frames long but it thinks it's 100 frames long. The result: a blank frame. Or it plays the clip AFTER/BEFORE the transition incorrectly, playing a frame that is "empty".
Either way, playback is "missing" one frame. Either the transition itself is flawed or the playback of the clip that follows/precedes it is flawed.
(Remember, iMovie modifies the playback of the original clip(s) too when you add the transition, at least for some transitions. If the new description of those clips is wrong, playback of those clips will be flawed.)
To help iMovie get the math right while building the transition, I'd try removing one frame from the clip that FOLLOWS the planned transition. THEN add the transition.
If that doesn't work, try removing one frame from the PRECEDING clip before adding the transition.
I don't recall anyone reporting exactly where the flawed frame resides. Is the flawed frame in the transition clip? If so, is it the last frame of the transition? Or is it the first frame of the clip that follows the transition? Or the last frame of the clip that precedes the transition? Somewhere else?
You should be able to tell by selecting the transition clip and using the right/left arrowkeys to play through the transition. If you see a flawed frame it's in the transition clip. If, on the other hand, you DON'T see a flawed frame but see it only when you select and play the clip following it, then the transition is okay but the error is in playing the following clip. Same with the preceding clip.
Either way, deleting one frame from the clip AFTER the planned transition or BEFORE it may solve the problem. It changes the math. It changes any rounding calculation, for example. No promises, but it's worth a try.
One other idea: the math error may be affected by whether or not the Ken Burns checkbox was on when you imported the image. iMovie describes the imported photo two different ways, depending on whether or not the checkbox was on. If you strike out above, you might try re-importing the image(s) using the opposite checkbox setting.
Please let us know what you discover. Good luck.

  • Same Transition Between Several Clips

I am producing quite a lengthy movie. Is it possible to select, let's say perhaps 20 photos, and insert a transition between ONLY those photos without affecting other movie clips and photos?

Exactly. I click, copy, paste and....nothing. Either the Fade to Color OR the SFX (it's a "Whoosh" sound) OR both at the same time. Nothing. Cannot figure it out. Looked into Pasting the Attributes but that didn't work either. Nothing gets copied. Nothing even shows up. Weird. Any ideas?

  • Can you display multiple photos on one page with slide tool to transition between them?

    Hi Folks,
I have a series of photos taken from the exact same location but on different days. I would like to display them on one page but use a slide tool/bar to move or transition between the photos. If the slide bar can display the date of the photo then that would be great.
Can this be done in adobe?
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks.

A Steve mentioned you can use a button to display an image. If you use JavaScript, you wouldn't have to show/hide multiple buttons but could instead dynamically set the button icon programmatically. The setup for something like this is a bit involved, but it's not overly complicated. Post again if you'd like more details.
The slide bar is the thing that would have to faked as there is no such built-in control, but something functionally equivalent could be done, it just may not behave as smoothly as you want.

  • IMovie HD 6 - Cannot insert transitions between short clips

I am attempting to assemble a movie using several short (8-15 second) clips. When I attempt to insert transitions, I get the following message:
"You cannot apply a transition between very short clips. They must each be at least 3:49:16 long."
I assume they mean 3 min, 48 sec, 16 frames. I don't remember having this issue before.
Is this something wrong with my installation, or do you really need 4 minute clips?

No, your iMovie program is acting strangely. For some reason iMovie believes that you are trying to insert a transition of almost 4 minutes duration between two clips of 15 seconds duration. (I can't recall any transitions longer than 10 seconds.) So it is giving you a message that your clips need to be longer.
When iMovie starts acting strangely, a commonly done procedure is this: Shut down iMovie and trash the file com.apple.iMovie.plist located in User/Library/Preferences. iMovie will create a new file on relaunch. Also, do a simple permissions repair using the Utilities/Disk utility application on your Mac. Then launch iMovie and see if your transitions work.
If your transitions still don't work, make sure that your Quicktime is updated to current version, and do a permissions repair like above after updating.

  • IMovie won't apply transitions between some photos

Software won't apply simple transitions between some photos. Have tried super short transitions (dissolve for eg) for a photo that appears for extened time, but no luck. Sometimes, this 'block' then affects the entire project, not allowing any transitions at all within that project.
Have reinstalled iMovie, which appeard to fix the problem, but as soon as I made say, 4 new transitions, it won't allow to make any more.
Is there a limit on total transitions for projects?

    Hey catspaw (great nick)
    Answers below:
    1. Its a 15 min project - with mostly DV - and saw, about 20 pics at the end of the project
    2. Have 200 Gig free disk space. Not an issue
    3. The problem has occurred on two very recent projects. And only appears at the end of the project (ie. just as I am doing finishing touches - which has driven me to distraction!) Both projects are no more than 15 min - both have transitions (short dissolves, overlaps) thru most of the project. But at some point iMovie appears to say 'enough' and won't allow any more transitions any where else of any length (ie under transitions menu the word APPLY is no longer highlighted). Which is odd to say the least.
    4. No problems on earlier projects (but admittedly, this has started in the latest iMovie HD that i have been using). Have been using iMovie for over a year though.
    5. All projects stored on internal drives.

  • Transitions between A and B roll, iMovie 10/Mac

Can you add transitions between a video and pictures added to an iMovie project as B roll? I dragged photos from iPhoto into the B roll location above my video, and it works as cut aways. Is it possible to have the transitions as dissolves instead of cutaways, or do I have to insert the photos into my A roll to add transitions? I'm guessing the second, but thought I'd ask before giving up on my idea.
The video is a fashion show video and there is audio underneath. I don't want to lose the sync of the audio to the original video, but when I insert the photos into the movie A roll, I get these periods of silence during the photos. I suppose I can also detach the audio, but I was having trouble timing/ setting the ins and outs for the video clips after inserting the photos.
I realize iMovie doesn't have a "real B roll,"if it did there would be two tracks for video at all times. That adding photos as a cut away is a B roll type thing, right? Am I trying to do too complex things with this, and would be better to switch to a higher end video editing app?
Using iMovie 10 on my Mac laptop.

What you can do in IMovie10:
have a close look on that cut-away stacked upon the video:
There are two tiny yellow handles, you can drag l/r; this adds a fade to that clip, symbolized with grey triangles:
(due to a 'flaw' in the forum software, there's a chance you can not see my applied screenshot - we have to live with that )
If you like to add one of the many other transitions, the still has to be indeed in the 'main project timeline':
    • detach the audio first
    • select the photo, set playhead at wanted position, hit W
    • … this 'pushes' the original video aside.. = out-of-synch!
    • click'n drag the start of that part and drag it to the right
(due to a 'flaw' in the forum software, there's a chance you can not see my applied screenshot - we have to live with that )
    • when all is in synch, apply any transition you like....
If you do this just once-in-a-while, this method is painstaking but manageable.
In professional tools, such as FCPX, this is a two-clicks maneuver …

  • How do I transition a photo from B&W to color?

I have seen a video that has photo stills that gradually change from black and white to color.  Does FCP have a way to do this?   Or do slow transitions between effects or other video settings?

    unfortunaely, color-corrections are not keyframe-able.
But in this case, the trick is simple:
    • split your photo in the timeline
    • color-correct #1 to b/w
    • apply a sloooow dissolve
