Insert to Report button on Field Explorer toolbar

Hello,
I was wondering if this button is suppose to have a drop-down list? Ther eason that I'm asking is because the icon has an arrow, which indicates that there is a drop-down list attached.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Tracy
Q2

Hi Tracy,
No, it's like that in CR 2008 also, it's simply a button to insert the highlighted field into the report.
If you really don't like it then add your suggestion to Idea Place...
Icons can be a little misleading at times and sometimes they simply don't make any sense and sometimes they suggest they have a drop down option...
Most people just drag and drop the fields.
Thanks
Don

  • Field Explorer in Crystal Reports does not show the same names as Bex Query

    Hi
I have crystal reports, I can retrieve data from BW Bex Query. But in the field explorer it does not show the names as in the Bex query designer.
In the Bex query designer a field will have the following technical name 0Debitor and the description is Customer.
It shows in crystal reports in the field explorer twice as D[0DEBITOR]D and D[0DEBITOR]D. It also does not seperate key figures and characteristics.
I would like it to display the field explorer as shown in this blog.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    take a look here:
    /people/ingo.hilgefort/blog/2008/02/19/businessobjects-and-sap-part-2
make sure you are using the MDX Driver and what happens is that you will see several fields per characteristic. example: one for the key, one for the description, several if modelled for the display attributes

  • SQL Expression Fields button not visible in Field Explorer

    Hi,
On my Crystal Reports installation I can see the button SQL Expression Fields in Field Explorer but it is not visible on client's installation.
How do I make it visible? I need to create a new report with SQL query for client.
    Thanks,

Commands are intended to replace the standard linked tables that must users are accustomed to.
I suppose Commands would be considered an "advanced" feature, considering that they require the developer to be able to hand write SQL (our at least copy it from another SQL editor).
If you are comfortable writing reading, writing & editing SQL, Commands will open a the door to a whole new level of control when it comes to creating your data sets.
The biggest problem w Commands is also it's greatest strength... If you're using a Command, CR will assume that you know what you're doing and will not try to rewrite or optimize your SQL in the background. You write it, CR sends it. That means if you write crappy SQL, CR will send your crappy SQL to the db server...
It also means that you can use join types that aren't available in CR and use sub-queries in in your SQL... Basically anything you can do in the db's native editor.

  • Report and Field Explorer dont work in Crystal Reports 2008

    Hi
I am using the following versions of Crystal Reports:
Crystal Reports 2008  (Service Pack 1)
    CR Developer
    Version 12.1.0.892
    Product Type: Full
Target environment: .NET 3.5 windows forms and asp.net application
Since a couple of days, i can no longer access the field explorer nor the report exlorer. Anything else seems to be working fine. I first thought these windows were somewhere hidden behind another window but as much as i searched, i didnt succed in finding them :-(.  Our product has a valid licence and is registered, by the way.
My question is now, what do i have to do to get my field/report explorer again. Maybe, installing the latest service pack had an influence, but i cannot tell for sure.
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks in advance

  • Crystal Reports Field Explorer not showing

    Hi,
I am using Visual Studio 2003 with the bundled version of Crystal Reports.  It has always worked fine until recently the Field Explorer tool bar does not show up anymore when I open a Crystal Report for development.  I have uninstalled the entire Visual Studio and reinstalled the Visual Studio but it still will not show the Crystal Reports Field Explorer.  However, if I install the Visual Studio on a completely different computer it works fine.  Anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem on my main computer?  Could it be a setting somewhere in the Visual Studio?  I cannot find any information on this problem.
    Thanks,
    Razzle

Ok, I figured out what the problem was.  It was something wrong in my Windows profile.  So I deleted my Windows profile and created a new one and it is working now.

  • Click a report button to change a report field value

    Hello All,
I need to create a report where when a user clicks a report button its image changes and a field relating to that record also changes from "N" to "Y"
I had a look at this Denes's example located on this link
    http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=31517:133:7078361971556070::NO
The only thing lacking here is the ability to change a record field when the user click the image.
Would it be possible to change the record field value when the function is called ?
    Hope this makes sense
    Frank

    Hi Jing,
I don't think it is easy, here is a sample that allows you to choose the page size and orientation (which are different master pages), Adobe LiveCycle Designer Cookbooks by BR001: Season Planner (or Year Planner) PDF Template
It effectively defines the form against each master page and recalculates the widths and heights when the page selected is made, but I don't know of another way.

  • Unable to view Field Explorer

In Crystal Reports 2008, I've been working with a client who is unable to view the Field Explorer window to edit her report.  When you select the View menu and Field Explorer, nothing happens.  We can verify the database and are connected to our table fine, but can't seem to access the Field Explorer for editing.  The only work-around is to use a wizard to create reports, but it's very time-consuming trying to make changes and edit that way.  Has anyone seen this before?  We don't have access to the setup files to try reinstalling, but we can track them down if that's the best starting point.  I just thought it was odd and wondered if there was an easy fix.  Thanks

click on View | Toolbars and in the pop up window, check the box next to Reset all toolbars and explorers on next restart.
Restart CR 2008 and see if the field explorer displays.

  • Field Explorer missing

    Post Author: Dmc
    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
Hi all, maybe a newbie question but still very annoying problem. When I start up my XI I can not get field explorer as usual. Neither icon nor menu item works. There is no problem in creating connections to the SQL database nor creating groups or making record selection, but field explorer and report explorer are gone and can not be brought back.  Does anyone recognize the problem and have a suggestion how to solve it. RegardsDraggan

    Go to View... , Toolbars,
and check 'Reset all toolbars and explorers on the next restart'
    Then, restart Crystal.

  • Field explorer does not open on my terminal services profile

    Dear Sirs,
For some reason I am unable to open my field explorer in any crystal report on my terminal services profile. I have checked with other profiles and the problem does not exist. The problem is specific to my profile. I can also create new reports and access fields however if I use the filed explorer button I cannot access fields, parameters or formulas from there. Problem just started this morning. We have been using crystal reports X1 for last 12 months. Would it be a terminal server issue?
I would appreciate whatever help you can give me.

    Hi Philip
This can be an issue with the terminal server that you are using. Please refer to the Crystal Reports XI supported platforms guide if the server that you are using is supported or not.
You can download the guide from the below link:

  • Descriptions in field explorer on CR 2008

    Hi,
We're opening a query by using SAP toolbar on Crystal Reports 2008 and on the fields explorer we can't see fields description, so we're not able to work with them (they only have a long character string as a name, we don't have neither BW Descriptions nor BW Technical names).
    What is the problem?
We tried to change product locale from spanish to english and viceversa but for some users this is working, but for some others it is not.
And what is more, if we work with "Database Expert -> New connection -> SAP BW MDX Query or SAP BW Query" it never works (descriptions are never displayed).
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Yes, I'm using MDX query driver with sap toolbar. Indeed I'm trying both.
Our logon language is Spanish (ES), and product locale and preferred viewing locale are also set to spanish.
So, are you suggesting that without using MDX query driver we can't see fields descriptions?
When I'm using "SAP BW Query" I never get the descriptions either.
    Thanks,
    David.

  • Please help me I am not seeing Database table column names in field explorer view

    Hi,
I am developing a crystal report using eclipse and sql server. After creating connection, when i drag and drop tables, The table name and its columns should apper in field explorer view. Then we drag the columns onto crystal report. Unfortunately I am just  seeing only table names but not column names in field explorer view. Could anyone help me?
After downloading eclipse I have plugged in the crystal report using the following instructions
    1. Click on the Help menu, and then Software Updates > Find and Install... to open the Install/Update wizard.
    2. Select Search for new features to install and click Next.
    3. Click the New Remote Site button. This will launch the New Update Site wizard
    4. Type the Business Objects Updsate Site for the Name field and the following for the URL: http://www.businessobjects.com/products/dev_zone/eclipse/
    5. Click OK to complete the wizard.
    6. Enable the newly created Business Objects Update Site checkbox as well as the Callisto Discovery Site (which should appear by default with Eclipse 3.2) and click Finish.
Expand the Business Objects Update Site node and enable the Crystal Reports for Eclipse 1.0.0v555 checkbox.
    8. Expand the Callisto Discovery Site and click the button "Select Required". This will automatically select the required Eclipse features necessary to successfully install Crystal Reports for Eclipse.
    Thank You
    Rajavardhan Sarkapally

Now we have a lot of views which select data from the tables, but I need to get the "Table Column Name" that is linked in the view.
If you are using SQL Server 2012/2014, then you can use
sys.dm_exec_describe_first_result_set (Transact-SQL) to gte the informations.

  • Some fields missing in Field Explorer

    Hi Experts,
I am designing a Crystal report template. I cannot view some fields in Field Explorer.
And data type of these fields is nvarchar(X), e.g. nvarchar(10)
How can I do to have these fields show? Then I can use them in report.
I'd like to add more information:
Crystal Reports 2008, CR Developer Version
    SQL Server 2008
    Connection is OLE DB
    Thanks in advance.
    Christina
Edited by: Christina Du on Sep 28, 2010 3:29 AM

    Hi Christina,
Even though they are defined as small char types they can still have BLOB type data inserted into them. Or SQL Server changed their driver and CR doesn't support the type now.
If you have not already try installing Service Pack 3 and then Fix Pack 3.1 and test again. We did some fixes for that type, but unfortunately it was not completely fixed.
When you selected OLE DB did you choose the Native 10 driver or the OLE DB driver? It's the Native 10 driver we don't fully support yet.
    Thank you
    Don
