Inserted video appears as a dot, sound does play but no video

Ever since QuickTime was updated to 7.4 (and subsequently to 7.4.1), I have been unable to insert .mp4 video's into my Keynote presentations!
These videos do not play in quicktime any more either!
The videos do play without a problem in iTunes. They are videos I have put together my self, so there are no digital rights involved with them.
Has anyone got any ideas on how to solve this, as I have a presentation that needs to be done by Wednesday and I really need to put some of these video's in.
The only other thing I can think of at this stage is to use some sort of video conversion program to change the format of the videos...
Would appreciate any input!

This is a known issue. Since this version of Quicktime, they are more strict that movie files adhere to standards.
In order to fix these files, I used the free program iSquint, and re-compressed with the H.264 option ticked.

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

Import screen does play but does import

Seems all of a sudden, maybe something to do wiht 10.1.8 that when I use the import screen with my HDV camera, Importing is fine but the importing screen doesn not play. It just is frozen on a frame. I now I had this quite a while back and fixed it but I don't remeber what I did. Any body havea any ideas? Again,, FXP X Import the files form tape, but the main import screen does not play but is being importing.

In my case there was no second monitor so I can't remember whether I did something or it was just cured by an FCP X or OS update.
As long as it actually captured, I was not too concerned about whether the image in the import window moved or not.

It sounds like the phone thinks it is still plugged into a dock connection but it is not.
I would first recommend, if you do have a dock connection, plug it in there and if it shows in iTunes eject it first, then unplug it. If it does not show in iTunes unplug it, and then reset the device with this process:

Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
That should get your iPhone working properly again.

I checked into your link and followed the directions to a "T", but still no luck! My Macbook Pro is brand new, I just bought it last November. I do not believe my battery is no good since everything was working properly except the fact that it wouldn't turn on. I had a full charge on my battery and my plug in light WAS showing green. During the time when I was attempting to turn on my computer, I noticed the plug in indicator light had turned orange. Now I have no light on it at all. Also, I am still able to use my computer if it is unplugged.
My problems continue to be:
1) Sounds like my fan is continually on and will not turn off.
2) My battery charge lights do not turn on.
3) The battery indicator icon (top right corner) shows an "x" in the middle of it.
4) My plug-in indicator light will not light up.
If my problem truly is the battery, what are my options? I don't even know how to get to the battery!

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. Sound to play one at a time

How do I make a command saying:
if sound is playing - dont play sound, else, play sound?
so that the sound effect only plays one at a time. So if holding down SPACEBAR for example, the sound will play and only after the sound finishes, can it loop if SPACEBAR is still pressed.

So basically, when the handbrake (spacebar) is pressed, the handbrake effect will be applied to the car and it will skid (which works), but the problem is I also want a sound to play when it spacebar is pressed.
The sound does play, however, when pressed, the sound plays many times over at the same time, rather than letting the sound finish for the sound to repeat itself again (if spacebar is still pressed - that is).

[SOLVED][KDE4]Only system sounds will play

I'm not sure if this belongs here or in the DE section, so please move it if you see fit.
I'm having a bit of a tricky issue with KDE, all the system sounds will play, but nothing else. I'm currently using the gstreamer phonon backend with ALSA. I've seen some forum posts from the gentoo wiki with similar problems but it seems it was just a mixed mess of deleting .folders and other configuration files. I've also tried to use the VLC phonon backend but to no avail either. I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem and has a coherent solution.
So far I've tested playing audio files in VLC and videos on youtube. My alsa device is fully configured and will play audio, just not output from programs that are not part of the plasma environment. I have also looked to the wiki for a solution but it only seems like it has solutions for audio conflict problems, which is all sorted out for me.

i recently had a gstreamer issue that i solved today as well. run a pacman -Ss gstreamer0.10 to see which packages you have installed. you might need to install the gstreamer0.10-plugins group of packages, as i did.
this might be completely different from what i went through, since i'm not using phonon or kde, but it's worth a shot. worst case scenario is you uninstall the extra packages afterwards.
another option to try (which didn't help me, but was a solution for SOMEONE i found through my searches) was to compile and reinstall a fresh version of the gstreamer0.10 package. abs makes it so simple to do, it's also worth trying.

Timeline sound keeps playing [BUG?]

Hi,
when playing a sound from a clip that is used on the timeline
and go to
another frame on the _level0 timeline the sound keeps playing
but the
clip where the sound is included doesn't exist on this part
of the
timeline anymore.
Is there a way to stop the sound from playing?

Itunes video appears to be playing, but no picture no sound

Help...new to Mac. Just purchased this from a friend who didn't use it for anything but business. Macbook Air. Loaded iTunes, Authorized the computer on my account. Then tried to watch videos in itunes. It launhes to a widescreen view which is grey where the picture should be....no video or sounds. But when you move the cursor to the area to press play of pause or other actions...it shows it as playing. When I click on the chapter area, it shows the pictures of the chapters as it should. Though clicking on them does not bring video to the main screeen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have the same problem. I have a 30gb Video Ipod. Was lying in bed listening, started changing songs, next thing I know it is no longer playing. Everything appears normal, makes clicking sound, you can change the volume and the white noise gets louder but no sound. Hooked up to many earphones as well as a fm transmitter, same thing. Tried resetting didn't work. I let the battery run out, than I hooked it up to my computer and fully charged it. Music played through itunes. Disconnected from my computer and it actually played. The next day I tried playing it again, and no longer worked. Haven't been able to get it to work since. Tried erasing all the music and resetting to normal factory settings, didn't work. Any help would be great!.

My video sound does not work when added to a pdf

I just bought adobe acrobat pro and when I insert a video it plays but with no sound. I have tried several different videos (quicktime) and they all do the same thing. I am working on a mac

Think I got it to work:
Just added the SetSystemStream in the button scripts that jumps to the chapter menu. Now I can go directly to a chapter point and have the subtitles on or off, depending on the GPRM value (that is set in the Language select menu).
Not sure if this is the best way, though. Scripting can be done in many ways - I tend to use separate scripts rather than having a few and more compex scripts. Works for me - most of the time.

When a video is taken in Photo Booth, the sound does not match up

When trying to take a video on photobooth, the sound does not match up with the image when the video is played back. What can I do to fix this?

Check your footage interpretation, split the audio in an external program, convert the sample rate and import it separately or whatever. Most likely you simply have used unsuitable recording settings with odd sample and data rates.

Sound does not match video

I have imported an HD video from a Canon HV30 camcorder into iMovie HD 6.0.3. The picture looks great but the sound does not match the video. I have never encountered this problem before when importing from other video camcorders (non HD). Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem? Thanks.

Was the sound recorded in 12 bit instead of 16 bit?
You can fix this by extracting the audio from the video clips. Put your movie clips in the timeline, and put it in the 'timeline' vies.
Select the clip first, then go Advanced->extract audio. It may take a while, but you will then have the video clip on the video track, muted, with a separate audio track below it. You can then select 'show audio wave form' to see the audio waves and move the audio track slightly to get it synched with the video for that clip. When it is correct, do a 'Lock audio at playhead' to secure it.
Do this for each of your clips. If your clips are quite long, this extraction can take a very long time. That is why I said to do it one clip at a time, but that does get tedious.

In AE CS6, the sound does not match with video

I would like to ask a question. I have AE CS6, and I recorded a gameplay video with Avermedia Live Gamer HD. The format of this video is .mp4. When I import the .mp4 into the program, the sound does not match. On the original video, when i play with VLC or WMP, all things are good, and when i import, the sound does not good. What causes this problem, and can I do something to solve this?
