Inserting a poem in imovie HD?

Hi my grandmother passed away recently and I am making a video with photos from her life in imovie HD. She wrote some poems that I would also like to include in the video with a black background. Is this possible?

imagine that 'chart' as any picture:
use a picture processor of your choice (Photoshop/Elements, Pixelmator, Grafickonverter, Keynote...) and 'paint' that picture with a nice font, good colors..
keep in mind, a TV is no computer screen!
don't use too small fonts.
serif/'artistic'/kalligraphy only with large fonts.
avoid high contrats/make a test, wether white on black is readable.. could 'flimmer'
pic procesors allow much more 'typography' than any title in iMovie.. e.g. a 'paper' background.. huge caitels, single characzers in a differnet color to highlight.. etc.pp.
if the poem is longer, create a 'portrait' grafic and use the Ken Burns effect to 'scroll' the poem..

When I insert a picture, i either have the choice of cropping the picture or having black bars on the sides. How can I insert a picture into imovie and not be dictated based on the aspect ratio. thanks

    nope, never.
    look:
    example #1: a 1:1 pic in a 16:9 screen
    option A bars l/r
    option B cat-off
example #2: a wiiiide screen pic in a 16:9 screen
    option A bars t/b
    option B catcut off
and you don't want kitty look like that:

  • How do I insert a screenshot into iMovie

I'm currently working on a youtube video.
I've taken the screenshots I need for my video, and I need to insert them somehow into iMovie.
iMovie is the program I am going to use to make my video, since it has lots of different resources to use, effects, titles, it's amazing!
It's for a virtual world I play (I'm 9.) ourWorld. I'm making Safe & Sound by Taylor Swift.
    Can anyone help me?
I  need to insert the screenshots I took on my Mac into iMovie to make this video everyone is waiting for!
    Thank you!

There are 3 ways to do it.
    1) Drag the screen shots into iPhoto and then restart iMovie. You can drag them in from the Photo Browser.
    2) If you have Aperture, drag the shots into Aperture and then restart iMovie. You can drag them in from the Photo Browser.
    3) Put the screenshots in a Finder folder. You can drag from the Finder into your iMovie Project. If you do it this way, make sure it is in a folder that you will not move for as long as you want to edit this movie.
Once they are in iMovie, use the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns Tool to set them to FIT. This will let you see the entire screen shot in your movie.

  • How do I insert chapter markers in iMovie '11?

In my various Google searches, I keep reading references to inserting chapter markers in iMovie, usually earlier versions. How can I manually insert chapter markers using iMovie '11? I really don't want to use iDVD, which apparently only lets you select how many minutes are between each chapter.

enable "show advanced tools" in iMovie preferences then you will see the little balloon indicated by the arrow.
drag it where you want to have your chapter in the project, give it a name, you're done.
when you'll export your movie and have it in idvd you'll automatically have the movie split in the chapters you've made.
    Cheers,

  • How do you insert special characters with imovie 08?

How do you insert special characters into a project
    with imovie 08?

Don't think that would work. Since my "system date" is already set at 2007. I have 2 imports, one has the year as 2048, and the other at 2016!! I don't know where they are getting these dates from, but they are not the system date.
Were the files imported directly from a camcorder or from files already on your hard drive? In the first case the year may have been taken from the time "stamp" recorded when the footage was shot (which may or may not have been correctly set by the user). On the other hand, files imported from the hard drive seem to be keyed to the date the imported file is written to the "Events" folder which, of course, reflects the current system time/date setting. That's why I said you had to then import (re-import) the files from a hard drive source -- i.e., to ensure the DTG would be re-written.

  • The insert titles are making imovie crash

i am trying to make a movie and when ever i try to put it into idvd it crashes so i deleted all the audio and it crashed then I deleted the insert titles and it didnt crash so its one or few insert titles messing it all up. is there a way to tell why they are doing it or I just dont know what to do HELP!!!!

Same here. I was working on my macbook in iMovie '09 on a project on a seagate external hard drive and the events was on the hard drive also. I've never had any problems with it crashing on me until this project and I just used it the day before. After 15 minutes into the project i try adding another title in and it just kept crashing from then on out when i try to add a title and preview the project in full screen.
To add to problem I unplugged the external hard drive (properly) and plugged it in my iMac imovie '11 and just added one title. Then I took the external hard drive back to my macbook and now the project won't even appear in imovie. And when i find the file itself in the hard drive and click to open it, it opens imovie but still no project. Somebody please help. I would greatly appreciated it.
It wouldn't be problem to work on it on my imac expect i have other people using it through out the day and my macbook is easier for me to work on where ever i'm at.

  • How do I insert a photo in iMovie 11 without losing the audio?

I'm trying to insert photos into a recording of an interview. I select the photo and insert it into the clip but it only inserts the photo without audio. I want the photo to display while the pserson continues to speak. I wondering if I have to split the clip in order for this to work properly.

    • in iM's prefs, switch On the Advanced Tools
    • drag the photo into your Project onto the clip
    • cursor switches to a green + , select 'cutaway'

  • Insert a timer in iMovie 11

I'm doing some sports (track) videos in iMovie 11. I would like to add a transparent timer to the bottom corner (with minutes, seconds, tenths/hundredths). I've read about chroma key and plug ins that used to be around for iMovie 06. Are there any plug-ins or youtube videos that I can use?
    Thx

Thanks so much Kristin!  Very helpful.  I can't remember the details but here's what I've done so far and here's a video showing it.
I found a 30 minute count-up clock.  Then had a heck of a time downloading a copy into iMovie.  I finally found something that worked.  http://perian.org/ allowed me to download the clip and save as Quicktime or .MOV if I recall.
I then thought about what you have done.  Should I run the video capture non-stop during a 21 minute period of time?  I decided to take a different approach.  I video as I've always done, recording and pausing between portions of the race as I run to vantage points.  I do this because I need to capture sometimes four races a day and don't want to have my batteries die or disk filled before I'm finished.
Important for me was to be sure I was recording when the gun fired.  I needed to get the data code (time stamp).  An 8AM race might actually go off at 7:57.4 AM according to my camcorder, which is my basis for time.
I also video the display clocks around the course and especially at the finishing chute.  My clock displaying in my video needs to match that clock, whether or not I chose to include my clock throughout my entire final cut.
So Here's what I've done.  This video shows the race clock in a Pic-In-Pic at various points.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmClVODKyY8
at the 4:20 mark you see 16:02 which is the race clock.
I might try your approach and see how much disk space a full race takes.  It would save the editing of the clock (which saves me time) but would also add to the time where I have to edit out large sections of video I don't want.  Hmmmm.  .... Not sure if there's much difference but may try that.
Long story but I had to upgrade my equipment.  My old Sony HD Cam died.  I now have two batteries, large internal disk, two SD cards.  Enjoying the Florida XC season.

  • IMovie insertion of music won't play audio

I am trying to insert music into my imovie project and I can't hear the audio. All the other tracts that I inserted are playing fine but not this one. Any other songs
I try to insert won't pay either? I checked to see if things were muted but it doesn't seem like they are. Any ideas?

Altered from original solution from Emily P:
Okay, mine now works here is what I did.
plug in the iPhone, iPad etc
in iTunes select the phone or iPad
Under Summary uncheck "Sync with this....."
Under "Music" uncheck the "Sync Music"
    Sync
Let it remove all the songs, dont worry it will come back no problems.
Once that is all done all the music on the phone or ipad should be gone.
Now check them both back on, sync, and everything should copy back onto it.
    Working now !!!!!

  • Inserting a text clip in a slideshow.

I'm creating a slideshow in iMovie. I have successfully imported and arranged pictures, video and audio and added transitions to spiff it up.
The question I have is how to add text clips in between pictures. For instance, I want to insert a poem between 2 pictures but I can't find any options that allow me to do this. Under the "Editing" tab there are "Titles" but these are predefined and don't really allow for more than a couple of lines of text. Those titles that allow for additional lines of text are way too structured in that it presents 2 lines of text at a time.
Any suggestions? I tried creating a Word document that has a colored background and text but the program doesn't seem to want to import it.

There must be an easier way as I'm sure many people do something similar....
What is Apple's equivalent of MS Paint? I guess I could create the graphic and save it as a .jpeg as you suggested. Scanning each item I create 'kinda seems like overkill for something that should be relatively simple to do.
BTW.....The "Titles" options doesn't work well if you want to add 6 lines of text 'cause they group things together in 2 lines of text at a time which looks awkward for some things. I want the 6 (or however many) lines of text to be grouped together.

  • IMovie capture from DV tape without auto scene break

Has anyone figured out to prevent iMovie from automatically inserting scene breaks in iMovie'11.
I am importing previously edited footage for conversion.  This still contains the timestamps.
After importing, iMovie automatically places each clip by time/date order in Events - which means it is jumbled up because it has previously been edited.
Basically what I want is either 1) to import as a single clip, i.e. disable auto scene break, or 2) to be able to sort clips into same time/date order that they were imported.
    Cheers

iMovie will assume that anything imported in DV Stream is coming directly off a camcorder, and therefore will be sorted in chronological order.
If you still have access to the software where you created these movies, you can share them out in something other than DV Stream.
For example, if you have iMovie 06, you can import it without auto scene breaks. Then Export Using QuickTime to an mov container in the DV codec. That will produce an mov file that iMOvie 11 will import in the correct order.

  • How to make a podcast with one still image with iMovie 09

I'm using trying to transfer my podcasts to Vimeo. I've been using iWeb to create a person web site with video and podcasts. I have embedded Vimeo with "html snippet widge." I want to do the same thing with audio, however Vimeo only accept "video" files.
In my attempt to work around Vimeo's video issues, I had the idea to use iMovie 09 to create a "video file" using a single still image with my audio podcast play in the background. The single image would be consistent for the entire length of the audio. It seems simple...one still image file and one audio file.
All of my audio files are less than 45 minutes in length. The problem is that when I insert an image in iMovie I can't get it to last for more than 10:00 minutes of my podcast. I've had to drag the same image over several times, extend each image's length to 10:00 minutes until I have enough images to last the full length of the audio file.
I'm sure there's a simple way to do this with one image, used one time, and have the audio added.
Anyone understand my situation and have a good idea?

The most efficient method would be for you to do this in iMovie 6. You can download a version if you don't already have it on your computer. http://supportdownload.apple.com/download.info.apple.com/AppleSupport_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/Mac_OSX/downloads/061-3532.20070807.nq3ER/iMovieHD6.dmg
Put all your clips into a new iMovie project, in the order you wish them to play. Use the chapters tab and add chapter markers for each clip (except the first one; iDVD will add that one for you). Close iMovie.
Open an new iDVD project. Use the Media tab, then Movies, to locate your new iMovie. Drag and drop it onto the main iDVD window, taking care not to drop it into a drop zone. You should then see the title of your movie and the two options: Play Movie (which will play all the clips sequentiallly) and Scene Selection (which will take you to submenu(s) where you can select which clip to view).

  • Inserting images into a movie that are not photos

Is there anyway to insert images into an iMovie (such as *.gif) files? Alternatively, is there anyway to insert powerpoint slides into an iMovie (because I can easily get the images into power point).
Can I put an image in one of the title frames or transitions?
    Thanks
    Dan

I am not sure about gif (but you could easily try it). JPEGS (.jpg) work and .png work for sure.
It is straightforward to save a powerpoint page as a jpeg.

  • IPhoto in iMovie 11 (9.0.4)

We are creating a custom slide show in iMovie with photos from iPhoto.  The problem is that photos inserted show up with the wrong thumbnail in the time line.  Furthermore, when played we see only a black blank slide.  Per another thread, I've cleared the cache.  This is an inconsistent problem and at one point, I quit iMovie and restarted it and the faulty inserted photo showed up correctly.  But then the next photo inserted had the same problem and it did not fix itself when I restarted iMovie. we had begun the project with an import of an entire album. That happen correctly.  The problem is now with additional photos added from several other events or albums.  Ideas?  This has become a major crisis since the slide show is due for an upcoming function,

I see the same bug, with various different symptoms. If I try to insert a picture in iMovie, the preview thumbnail is blank. Then after I play it it turns to the wrong thumbnail. It still doesn't play the right picture. I had one instance where it even played the wrong picture. But never the right one. It seems that this bug was present in previous versions also. INote that I have iPhoto setup not to copy pictures internally in its database. Maybe that has something to do with it?
