Inserting click boxes in an assessment

I am in the process of completing an online course using captivate 7.  Within the course some of the modules will have an assessment portion where they will need to complete a scenario based objective.  In the past, I have set it up where I would go to file and select record new software simulation and select the assessment portion.  I record my simulation and then copy and past the slides into my module.
I did that this time and the assessment itself works.  However, the click boxes I have set to return the user back to review the scenario are not working.  There is no difference between what I have done here and what I have done in the past.  I have the click box set to jump to a specific slide and then the slide I jump to I have have the scenario click box return to the last slide visited.
I have set the modules up to be a show, try it! and assess type modules.  The Try It! my scenario buttons woprk but not my assess.
Any help would be much appreciated!!!
Thank You,
Bob

  • Captivate 6 is Crashing when inserting click boxes and other issues

Desperately need help because I have never seen anything like this.  I use Captivate 6 in the workplace and have not run into an issue like this in the 9 years I have used Captivate.
Captivate will not open any new projects (800 x 600 or 640 x 480 etc.)  Nothing happens.  When I open 1024 x 768 (the project size I have been using for the last year), a new project will open but when I try to add a click box, I get an error message "A fatal error has occurred and the application is being terminated.  Adobe Captivate tried to save all your work int he respective project folders as "cpbackup" files.  Please restart Captivate.  This has only been happening for a week.
When a coworker or IT employee signs onto my computer under their profile, Captivate works fine for them.  I went to another co-workers desk who has Captivate and when I sign on her computer under my profile, I have the same problem so we figured my work profile was corrupt.  IT set up a new profile 2 separate times, I have uninstalled and re-installed 3 or 4 time and nothing works.  We are on a network but Captivate is installed on my C:Drive and I save all my files on the C:Drive.
The odd thing is if can open up files I have worked on this past year (even up to 2 weeks ago), they are fine and I can insert click boxes without any problems.  It just happens when I try to create a new file.
We have Adobe volume licenses at work so I can not call and get support and none of us can figure this out.  I would be really grateful for some help!!
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • Inserting click boxes in Q slides in Captivate 5.5

I don't have the option to insert click boxes in question slides in my version of Captivate (5.5), which I would like to do to create a quiz with multiple reults per these instructions: http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/852/cpsid_85255.html). See screenshot below:
Any ideas about workarounds or some setting or function that I'm missing would be greatly appreciated!

No workarounds.  With Captivate 6 or higher you can add some interactive objects such as shape buttons to quiz slides, but not with Cp 5.5.
Your only other option is to forego using quiz slides and create your own question slides using interactive objects.

  • Using Click Boxes in an Assessment

    Hi All-
I have created a final assessment simulation. In this
software simulation users have to select the appropiate part of the
system which I have added click boxes to. At the end there are 3
    multiple choice questions.
In the Advanced preferences each click box and multiple
choice question has been assigned a point and I have selected the
Add to total, track score, and Report columns.
In the Quiz settings I have set the score to be a 90% to
pass. This did not seem to work so I tried to change the points to
be 90 out of 100. Each time I save and go back in it changes by 90
    to a 6.
Also at the end of the quiz with the summary page it only
totals the multiple choice questions and not the clicks. When a
user reviews the quiz it only takes them back to the multiple
    choice questions.
    Can anyone help? Thank you!

Are you sure the click boxes are set to be tracked for
quizzing? If not, press F9 to open the Advanced Interaction
palette. Click 'All Scorable Objects' so you can see every element.
Then check to see that the checkboxes in 'Add to total' and 'Track
Score' columns are checked. Also, be sure there are points greater
than zero in the Points column.
    G'luck.

  • Click-box behavior and calling javascript

    Greetings,
While working on a project I have noticed odd behavior
concerning click-box behavior where there are more than one
    click-box on a slide.
    Here is the situation:
I have a Captivate (2) lesson project. In several slides I
have an area on the slide where the user can access material
outside the lesson. They do this via clicking a click-box. The
click-box is set to fire a javascript that opens the additional
content (an outside url) in window that "floats" above the
    currently viewed slide.
The javascript is a standard open browser window script with
    passed parameters.
Here is the script being called (it is located in
    standard.js):
    function openBrWindow(theURL,winName,features)
    window.open(theURL,winName,features);
This script is being called in Captivate in:
Insert -> Click-box -> If the user clicks inside the
box, On Success -> Execute Javascript
An example of a typical call:
Click box -> JavaScript: -> In the window/field is:
    javascript:openBrWindow('
    http://www.mydomain.com/about/org-pol/f-07/f-07-016.html','mypolicy','width=800,height=600 ,scrollbars=yes');
This works fine. A window with this URL opens up over the
    stopped slide.
The odd behavior comes in where I have more than one of these
click-boxes on a slide. If the user clicks a second click box, the
correct (different) URL opens up in a window OK, but the slide (now
behind the new, open window) advances. It shouldn't advance to the
next slide. It should stay put until a user clicks a particular
    button to advance.
Has anyone seen this type of behavior before? Is this a bug
in Captivate 2? Or a bad javascript call? Any thoughts?
    Thank you for your input.
    TPK

    Hi TPK
When you edit the properties of the Click Box, note that
there are two buttons to the right of the "JavaScript" field. One
is an ellipsis ( ... ) and you probably clicked that one to enter
the script. The other is a down arrow. You need to click the down
arrow and DE-select the option labeled "Continue playing project".
You will need to do this for each Click Box the user may interact
with where you don't want the slide to continue if the user clicks.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Inserting an image when a "Click Box" is checked

    Hi,
I'm working on designing an training activity for a new system which I do not have access to.
The screen I'm working on involves the users checking off a number of boxes.  How can I make a "check mark" image appear in the box once it has been clicked?
Please help...I'm faced with a deadline for tomorrow and this roadblock has me stumped.

    Hello,
It helps if you mention the version you are using. Hoping it is at least Captivate 4. There is indeed a checkboxes widget coming with Captivate that could do what you want, provided you like the checkmark there.
If not insert as many checkmark images as you will need and set them to invisible. If nothing else has to be executed when the click box is clicked besides showing the checkmark image, you do not need an advanced action but can just apply the action 'Show <image>' as success action where <image> is the ID of the checkmark you want to show. But beware: if all those click boxes are on the same slide, you have to know that the playhead will be released when the click box is clicked and will move beyond the pausing point. To avoid that you'll have to rewind the playhead, and then you'll need an advanced action instead of a simple action with two statements:
    show <image>
    Assign rdcmmndGotoFrame with rdinfoCurrentFrame
The second statement puts the playhead back before the pausing point.

  • Captivate 7 Click box and bottons not able to open an URL on a new window

I inserted a button and a click box in CP7 to open an URL on a new window. The URL opens but in a New Tab. There is an issue that the URL cannot be opened on a NEW WINDOW, I am using IE and Chrome. Do you have any ideas about this issue and how to troubleshoot it? I tried with Safari and it works fine.
Thanks, Jorge - Adobe Captivate 7 user.

    Hi Jorge
It's my understanding that all you can do is to configure the link to open in a new "whatever". Whether you get the link opening in a tab or a window is left up to the browser and how the particular user has their browser configured. For example, I use Firefox and when I look at its settings here is what I see.
I'm guessing there must be a way to force a new window, because I do see new windows appear. But I think in those cases folks are doing it by using JavaScript.

  • How can i get a right-click click box to work?

I am using Captivate 7 and to accurately mimic the software I have inserted multiple right-click click boxes but without success. After reading previous posts, I have tried the following:
    - publishing to SWF and HTML5
    - publishing to the default folder and launching the HTML from there (i can see .css and .js files in the folder as well)
    - unchecking "Enable Accessibility" in Publish Settings
I'm very new to Captivate so any help or advice you can give on this would be great.
    Thanks

Read this post about Flash Global Security:

Not having the publish folder location set up as a trusted location can also cause right click to fail.

  • Can't get tab to work after a click box

I have no problem getting the tab to work after a text entry but when I insert a click box and tab the tab feature isn't working.  I do have tab set as short cut in Actions on properties of click box.

Captivate 7 allows you to configure the tab order for all interactive objects on a slide.
Select the slide and look for the Tab Order button at the top of the Properties tab.

  • Unable to link click box to Word document

I am using Captivate 2 to create a click box. On success the
click box should open a Word document in a new window. I have saved
the Word document in the same folder with my swf. After testing the
click box, I get an error message IE was unable to link to the Web
page you requested. The page might be temporarily unavailable.
What is weird that the Open URL or File on success works fine
if I set the Word document to open in the current window. This
option is not possible, because I do not want users leaving the
course. Am I doing something wrong? Please advise.

I'm facing this problem since Captivate 2
but I just skip the link file part....
But now i doing my personal portfolio
which got huge link pdf and mpeg link file...
    so I've tried Captiv8r method
    but after publish into .exe
    when i click the clickbox
i will appear ERROR sign and won't open the link pdf file
    I've followed all the steps:
    1. From Captivate, click File > Create a MenuBuilder
    project...
    2. Choose the "Blank Project" type and click OK.
    3. Click Options > Project Options...
    4. Change the Width to 320 and the Height to 200 (These are
    the minimum settings)
    5. Click OK to dismiss the Project options.
    6. Click Insert > Clickbox...
    7. You should see a "New Clickbox" dialog. There should be an
    empty field labeled "Link".
    8. Type only your document file name into the Link field.
    9. Place a check mark in the "Save file with project" check
box, and click OK to dismiss the dialog.
    10. You may see a warning dialog where MenuBuilder is
quibbling about the document not being present. Don't let this fool
you. Just click NO to advise you don't wish to browse for the file.
    11. At this point you should see a small object on your
MenuBuilder. It should say "Clickbox" and be positioned in the
    middle of the project.
    12. Drag the sizing handles until it totally covers the area.
It should totally cover the whole area.
    13. Now click the Export toolbar button.
    14. MenuBuilder will then prompt you to save the project. Go
ahead and give it a name to appease it and click the Save button.
    15. Select "Flash Movie" from the Export Options dialog and
    click Next >.
    16. Type a file name, choose a location to store the movie,
make sure the "View project after export" option is NOT selected,
    then click the Finish button.
    17. Now you may close MenuBuilder. You are finished with it.
    We go back to Captivate.
    18. In Captivate, open the slide with the link you wish to
use to open the document. The goal here is to click Insert >
Animation... and suck in the .SWF you created using MenuBuilder.
19.Then position that over an image or something that will
clue your user to click it.
    I've follow all the step
    but in NO.8 & No.9
If I just type the file name (and no link)
I can't place a check mark in the "Save file with project"
    check box
and when I import the swf into Captivate
    It will show a message:
"Adobe Captivate - Captivate link test.cp
The Adobe Flash file contains action script that reference
"root". This might cause the adobe captivate project to work
incorrectly or to stop working. do u want to continue to add this
    file?"
and After burning in to CD
I can't open the PDF link file!
and it will jump out a ERROR:F sign! (actually what is the
    "F" means? FXXK? haha~)
After several times try and error
I've slightly make some changes at NO.8 procedure:
    8. Type only your document file name into the Link field.
(I've choose and place the file with whole link & file
    name,
which is: C:\Unzipped\Captivate testing\D herbal tea
    Leaflet(C).pdf
and then now I can check the "save file with project"
    checkbox)
after output to a swf and insert animation in captivate
although captivate also show the "Adobe Captivate - Captivate
    link test.cp
The Adobe Flash file contains action script that reference
"root". This might cause the adobe captivate project to work
incorrectly or to stop working. do u want to continue to add this
    file?" message
but now i can open the link file (in same folder with .exe
    publish file)
    in any other computer!
I've checked the action script inside the link.swf which i've
    created, and get the result:
    // Action script...
    on (release)
    var szArg = "D herbal tea Leaflet(C).pdf";
    var szWindow = "_blank";
    if (_root.FlashPlayer == "1")
    getURL("FSCommand:execfile", szArg);
    else
    getURL(szArg, szWindow);
    } // end if
it shows the file name only!
    Now it's no problem!
PS: U cannot open the link file under preview mode
    it won't open
    but after publish into .exe
u can open the link file!
Sorry my english is very poor
anyone don't understand can download my testing project from

  • Adding a click box for a pop up on a quiz page

I would like to add a pop-up scenario review on a quiz page so that those doing the elearning can review the case history.  I have the file saved as a pdf and it allows it to pop-up on other pages of the learning module but I can't figure out how to get this to work on a quiz page.  This is the page I especially want them to have the information so that they can make an informed choice. Does anyone have a thought on how this can be done or what i need to do differently?  Thanks

    Hi Deb
This will be a bit on the cheesy side, but as your name infers you are from Wisconsin, that shouldn't be a big deal, no?
What you might do is to create a blank project sized at 100x100. Configure it with no preloader and no playback control. Then insert a Click Box that opens the PDF. Just insert the PDF file name and no path information. Publish that as a SWF.
Now return to the project where you want to open the PDF from a question slide. Insert the SWF as an animation object. Perhaps layer the area over an image of a PDF or some other trigger to clue the user they may click.
Give that a go and see if it works for you... Rick

  • Presentation converted from powerpoint not playing proper duration or recognising click boxes

Captivate 5.5 publishing a project coverted from a powerpoint, slides do not pause for the click box when published simply play for a second or two then move on?  This is a presentation created originally in Cap 5 It worked perfectly. opening it to add some content and previewing in 5.5 is fine . only when and however it is published the slides do not wait for a click or play for set durations. Rather a random problem has anyone else encountered this and solved it.

Hello and welcome to the forum,
That is a whole bunch of questions in a terminology that is totally different from the Captivate terminology. I was wondering if you even have tried at least one tutorial coming with Captivate to have some idea of the way it works? I'm sure you can achieve this in Captivate, am prepared to help but, sorry to sound a bit rude, this is a user forum, not a Captivate training place. You can meet other users here that will try to help you, like you could help others.
All can be done in Captivate, I try to suggest solutions:
For the 'slide list' you can use the Table of Contents, either in separate or in overlay mode, group the slides and collapse the slide groups; in that way the user will only see the group names and if you allow Enable navigation he can use this TOC for navigation
You can import Powerpoint slides, I do not understand why they should play in a box? Do all the timing in Powerpoint and when importing choose the option to play Automatically
You can insert slide video (there is a fine tutorial about it), and eventually resize it and add Text captions.
It is not clear where or what you want with the Text Captions, on individual slides or on top of imported PPT slides ... Of course you can add Text Captions, even rollover Captions/Images or whole slidelets with all possible combinations
You can publish to a SWF-file that will get an accompanying HTML + JS-file and upload those on a webserver, a LMS. Or you can publish to a multimeda pdf.
My apologies if my remarks did offfend you,

  • Sound with Click Box

    Hi,
I have a series of photos on a slide and for each an audio
track. Currently using a rollover caption (minus the text) to play
the sound track. The client would prefer to be able to click on the
photo to hear the audio track. How can I do that? I have tried the
clickbox but it plays the imported audio as soon as the slide
    appears.
Any help would be appreciated. As usual, thanks in advance
    for the help!
    Gary

    Hi Gary
What you could do is change that Rollover Caption to a
standard caption. Well, sort of. Unfortunately there is no magickal
way of changing from one type of object and transmogrifying to a
different type of object. So you would need to delete the rollover
caption. Then insert a standard Text Caption and configure it as
you have the rollover. The trick here is that you would stage the
Click Box object so that it paused the slide at a particular spot.
Perhaps at half a second in. Then stage the invisible Caption with
the audio to begin at perhaps 0.6 or 0.7 seconds in. Configure the
Click Box to simply Continue (That's the default setting anyway).
The end result should be that the slide pauses, then after
your user clicks the Click Box, they hear the audio.
Hopefully this was helpful to you... Rick

  • Help linking click boxes to "on Success" launch file

    Hello, all,
I need assistance linking my click box to a file that I need to launch in the project.  I am putting together some work samples and need to load the Captivate project up onto Dropbox for others to view.  The files I am having issues with are a PDF and output from Articulate Engage and Quizmaker.  When I publish, Captivate searches for the files locally, and does not open anything, even when I ahave moved the files to Dropbox and set the On Success directory to browse to the drop box location.  I got the message that I need to save the files for the output, including HTML files into the output folder, but when publishing to an .exe, there isn't an output folder.  Can someone please help me?

or use this http://captivatedev.com/2012/08/07/adobe-captivate-6-x-widget-web-page-widget/  to display whatever you want created in Articulate, and/or else where.
If you really need to embed pdfs into your .exes, there's no way to accomplish it directly. However, you can convert your pdf to swf and insert it as an animation.
Silly ain't it?. Google for swftools, it's free.

  • Apply multiple effects to multiple objects with single click box

I would like to click on a click box and have one object appear and another object disappear. I guess what I'd like to do is apply effects to multiple objects with a single click box. Is that possible?
    Thank you.

    Welcome to our community
Sure it can be done but you won't use effects to do it.
When you insert an object in Captivate, you have an option to enable or disable Visibility. You also have an option to name the object. So you would give the object a meaningful name and clear the Visibility option to "hide" it until needed.
Then you would create an Advanced Action that would hide some objects and show others.
After that, you would assign the Advanced Action to a Click Box or a Button or some other event.
    Cheers... Rick
