Inserting dashes in phone numbers

Is there a way to insert the dashes between the area code and prefix and prefix and number on a curve. It would make the number so much easier to read.

Hi and welcome to the forums!
The dashes are basically for people, the carrier and Blackberry don't need them for a call.
Therefore, blackberry didn't want to store "wasted space". So there isn't a way to add them

All dashes in contacts phone numbers have disappeared. Now when someone sends me a text only their number appears, no name.  I also have a lock icon next to the battery life.

First try something simple like restarting or resetting your iPhone to see if this corrects the problem:
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPhone shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
If these don't work do you have any iTunes or iCloud backups which would contain the missing data? If so restore your phone using the most recent of those.

it did so.  Contacts on my macbook pro does show up this way.  I do have a mobile me account and in the past syncing was no problem.  What setting has changed?

The phone number format as well as the date language and format and the time format are controlled by the Region Format setting. Go to Settings > General >International > Region Format.  When you change a region format, you can go back one page (to International) and see an example of the date/time/phone number format that your selected region format will produce.

  • How can you get the dashes to appear inbetween phone numbers

Is there anyway that I can get the dashes to appear so phone numbers do not look like a big block of numbers.  so instead of 18001234567 is goes 1-800-123-4567.  I looked in options and it does not look like it is possible

    Hi,
The dashes aren't necessary for the actual call so the Blackberry doesn't waste space (memory) holding the character.
    Make sense?

  • Can I attach multiple phone numbers to my iMessage account?

    So here's my predicament:
Any time I go travelling somewhere, I like to buy a local SIM card so that I don't have to pay fees for roaming data. The problem is that whenever I insert a new SIM card, iMessage switches to using my new (temporary) number and disconnects from my old (permanent) number. So any new messages I send will either send from this foreign number, or from my email; either one is inconvenient because it tends to start new threads for others in group messages and such. And people who try to iMessage my permanent phone number end up having it fail and then send it as a text message (which I will not receive until I get home and switch my SIM card back).
Is it possible to have multiple phone numbers connected to an iMessage account? (Without resorting to something drastic like buying more iPhones just to have more active numbers.) It seems like something that should be possible, but I can't figure out how to do it.

No, it isn't possible.  But you can give Apple this suggestion here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html.

  • Contact bug : contact phone numbers in edit mode are not shown in "dial" mode

Contacts can have seemingly unlimited phone numbers as seen in the contact edit mode, though very few are shown in the corresponding non-edit mode. Of course, Dialing is not supported in the edit mode.
I have found that contacts that include pause characters or block characters are not properly displayed in the contact "dial mode".  If you every try a conference call service, this is important to you.
At&t uses the comma as a pause, and Verizon uses the letter "t" as a pause.  *82 temporarily blocks your caller id.  Somehow the WebOS software that chooses which items to allow me to dial has bugs and worse, there is no clear way to prioritize so I am completely at the whim of the software.

I have tested entering 12 phone numbers on my own Pre Plus and all the numbers display in the normal contact field. How many phone numbers are you trying to to display?
The dialing options on the Palm Pre Plus are as follows:
To insert a two-second pause in the dialing sequence, enter a T where you want the pause to appear. To add a + symbol in the dialing sequence for international dialing, press and hold 0 (zero) in the location where you want the + symbol to appear. To insert a stop in the dialing sequence, enter a P where you want the stop to appear; to dial the next set of numbers after the stop, tap the screen.
As far as 3rd party special dialing character entry you would need to check with the 3rd party on how to enter this information into you device for your conference calling service.

  • Brand new 5s- sometimes phone numbers display when receiving calls and texts instead of contact name.

Brand new 5s- sometimes phone numbers display when receiving calls and texts instead of contact name. Hard to know who is calling/texting! A few times I've tapped on the text message icon and I can actually watch as the conversations turn from showing just numbers to the contact names. Same thing when looking at call history and voice mail- sometimes it shows numbers and then I'll go back and the contacts will be back. So frustrating!

You don't dial *228 to update the Preferred Roaming List on 4G phones; I"m surprised the call went through.  The PRL updates are handled by the SIM card.
Try this and see if it helps:  turn off the phone, remove the SIM card, and wait a few minutes.  Then re-insert the SIM card, turn the phone back on, and give the phone a few minutes to re-establish a network connection.

  • Names, addresses and phone numbers have dissappeared from my list, favorites and tx mess

Suddenly I went to favorites and realize most of my phones have no names only phone numbers.  I went to all contacts and they are not there. I lost names addresses and all info.  I need to know if is still there? in the memory? or I need to do it all over again.

Try importing your contact list from Verizon Backup Assist.
If you do not have that, then upload them from your saved contacts in your computer.
If you do not have that, then try to restore your backed up phone data from a previous backup on itunes.
If you still have none of those, then yeah.  You're SOL and will have to manually insert everything.  I recommend afterwards getting the backup assist app and backing everything up so you don't have to do that ever again.
    Hope this helps!

  • Pauses in phone numbers and signature lines?

    Two basic questions:
How do I insert a "Pause" or "Wait" character in my phone numbers. The P and W from my standard phone is no longer recognized by my Razor M.
I use Gmail and sometimes reply via my phone - do I use a special signature account in Gmail that says "sent from my phone" or is there a more automatic method that recognizes I'm sending from phone (or tablet...).
    Thanks in advance!

  • HT1386 my iphone doesn't import phone numbers correctly

my iphone doesn't import phone numbers correctly from my address book.  some are imported with the area code separated from the number, as it is in the address book (by a dash or parentheses).  these the phone will dial correctly.  others are imported with all the numbers bunched together, without separations between the number and area code, even though in the address book they are separated.  these the phone won't dial correctly, and I get a message from verizon saying it won't connect with the number as dialed.  how can I get the phone to import the numbers as they appear in the address book?

    Hi, bjholladay.
I would recommend the steps in the article below.  See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows XP or Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.

  • Removing hyphens/spaces from phone numbers

    Hi there,
Is it possible to remove hyphens and spaces that are automatically and incorrectly inserted to iphone numbers when storing them or is this a feature that Apple think everyone MUST have?
Having many international phone numbers on my phone, the incorrect spaces and hyphens are a nuisance. It would be easier if the feature can be disabled or if the iphone checks the format for each international number prefixes. Not that difficult really!!! i.e. + 44 for the UK and if it's a mobile prefix, insert a space/hyphen after the 07xx bit or whatever, and then the city codes followed by a space/hyphen. That's it!

    Hi Meg,
Thanks for your reply and the mention that Apple do take notice.
However, my post is not one of complaint. It was/is a query. If I wanted to complain, I would go straight to Apple and do that! I have the relevant email addresses of Apple in the US and I have got effective replies when I have complained about things in the past.
It is not my intention to complain in this post but to ask!
As I mentioned in the initial post "Is it possible to remove hyphens and spaces that are automatically and incorrectly inserted to iphone numbers when storing them or is this a feature that Apple think everyone MUST have?"
However, I thank you for your info, Meg.

  • Why can't I edit phone numbers in the dialer?

If I find a number on the Internet, it is often (at least in Sweden) typed in with country code and then an optional 0 if you're calling domesically, e.g. +46 (0) 8-402 60 00. This number isn't dialable because of the extra 0 inserted there from misguided benevolence.
My phone is also inside a switchboard and I need to add either a 0 or replace the first 0 with +46 (for a Swedish number) in front of every number to be able to make a call. Unfortunately the only way I can find to edit a phone number in the phone number dialer is to erase them from the last digit. Not very efficient if you want to replace the first digit!
Why can't I edit phone numbers anywhere in the string of numbers as anywhere else in the phone and its apps?
Now I have to copy the number either into a new contact or the notepad, edit and then dial.

Copied from my answer to your other thread for your convenience:
Unlike the iPhone, Android allows developers access to basic system functions. Although this means there are lots of apps that do interesting things like scheduling text messages (the one thing I really miss from when I had an Android), it also means the OS is significantly less secure. Apple's choice was security and stability. Google's was open platform at the expense of security and stability.

  • Does not format phone numbers

The phone numbers look fine with my Outlook. After syncing contacts using Itunes 12, the phone number format changed (without syncing the spaces and dashes). Anyone has clues to this? It works fine before I updated my Itunes.

I think you will have to build a custom format. In the prefs, click the disclosure triangle button, pick a starting point, and add all the formats you want.
I have a couple of British phone numbers in my book, rest US, and any item I pick does not affect them as they have +44. So...
You need to make a custom list of formats based on the country code and number of digits. I think your list might be long. Ex:
    (+32) ### ### ###
    (+32) #### ### ###
    (+44) ##### ### ###
    (+1) ### ###-####

  • Re: making a copy of sim phone numbers

I have over 400 phone numbers on my micro sim and want to make a copy of them on my pc in case my new iphone is ever lost or stolen.  Is there any way to sync them in itunes yet keep them separate from my email contacts?
I use outlook express for email but don't want to sync these to the phone as there are way too many and they will only clutter up my contacts list.
I've tried the online iphone 4 manual and looked online but can't find any way to do it and I don't have a sim card reader.
    Please help!

The iPhone does not store data on the SIM. It can read contact information on a SIM that's inserted, but it can not modify or save data on the SIM. The iPhone is designed to sync contact information to a supported address book application on a PC or MAC. Select what application you want to sync with within iTunes on the Info tab. MAKE SURE you have at least one entry in the address book on the computer before setting up the sync. If you do, you will be prompted to merge the phone and computer address books. If you do not, the phone will be overwritten with the blank address book from the computer.
