Inserting feedback captions

In my project, somehow the incorrect feedback button has gone missing. How do I re-insert it?
It is not part of the physical elements that make up a slide. I tried editing the question but i cannot find the option to turn it back on again.
Can anyone help with a solution?

In that case what you would do is to configure the question so that an incorrect answer moves perhaps to the next slide. The next slide would provide the feedback and you would then move the user to the question again.
A correct answer would skip over the next slide and continue.

Can I stop the slide audio (text to speech) when a quiz feedback caption with audio appears?

Hi there, We use text to speech on all our slides, however there is a problem we have been unable to solve. If we have audio on a quiz slide this continues to play when the feedback caption comes up. This means that if a learner clicks the answer quickly they hear the slide text and the caption text on top of each other. How can I stop the slide audio if the feedback caption appears. We have tried advanced actions to "stop triggered audio" and experimented with invisible text captions that have the audio added but have not solved it so far. Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this? Any help gratefully received, Many thanks Janet
PS We are using Captivate 8 with the installed Text to Speech voices

This is currently a common problem with audio in quiz slides of Captivate modules.
The configuration options for interactive objects on quiz slides to not allow the same level of control for audio playback that you have with normal interactive objects on other slides. (e.g. being able to stop other audio when something is clicked).
The Stop Triggered Audio action is often misunderstood. But as its name clearly indicates, it really only applies to stopping an audio clip that was TRIGGERED by another advanced action. That doesn't apply to background audio, slide level audio, or object level audio.
My suggestion is that you go back to your design and work out which of the two audio clips (the slide or the feedback audio) you can do without. Maybe your learners don't need them quite as much as you think.

Question: Inserting Close Captioning is not available...Why?

I will need to add Accessibility and close captioning support. I have checked this off in the Project settings and migrated to slide one properties.
Click on Accessibility and the panel defaults to three tabs. The directions I am seeing suggest text in this field will be read by an appropriate screen reader. However why is close caption and slide text buttons grey?

Insert specific image + text to quiz feedback

Hi,
Within Captivate quiz, I know there is a facility to offer text feedback to the learner dependent upon the option clicked by the learner after the Submit button is depressed.
However, is there a way to include an image too? So if a learner clicks the Correct option, they see a message saying (for example) "Well Done" as well as Image01. And if they click an Incorrect option they would probably get a text message saying "sorry, the option is incorrect" along with Image02.
In the straightforward setup, it seems that only text can be entered.
Any help will be most appreciated.

PS: I use Captivate 5 but Captivate 4 is not much different, so any help from those who use Captivate 4 too is welcome.

Actually, the feedback captions are composed of a couple of elements. The text you type and a background image. You are able to remove all text leaving behind the background image. You are also able to choose any image you like for the background image. You just browse to it and choose it. You will likely have to adjust the size of it after choosing an image.

Button whith audio as feedback

I thy to make one button without action, but with
audio as feedback when the user make click, and I need that this
behavior repeat how many times the user click

I made it work as follows:
1. insert a blank slide immediately before the slide
containing the button.
2. Configure the duration of this blank slide for the minimum
time possible. This should be 0.1 seconds.
3. For the slide containing the button, double-click the
button and edit its properties.
4. Configure the action of the button to "Go to previous
slide" when it is clicked by your end user.
5. Click the Options tab and place a check mark in the
"Success caption" check box.
6. Click the OK button to dismiss the button properties.
7. Now double-click the new Success caption that should be
visible.
8. Select all the default text and delete it.
9. Click the Caption type drop down and select transparent.
10. Click the Options tab and configure the caption timing
for 0.1 seconds and the Transition Effect: for "No transition".
11. Click the Audio tab, then import the desired audio clip.
12. Assuming the audio clip is longer than 0.1 seconds, you
should be prompted to configure the display time of the feedback
caption to match the duration of the audio. Choose yes.
Give that a go and see if it does what you need. Hopefully it
will.

Text Entry Captions not created

Using Adobe Captivate 5.0 - Training mode is not creating the Text Captions for Text Entry Boxes, even though selected in the Training/Recording settings. Creates Text Entry box, but no Text Caption. Really want this to work when recording SAP simulations, but doesn't even seem to work when recording internet browser or MS Oulook either. Any ideas? Thanks.

Perhaps it will help if I simply describe how Captivate usually works. There are several ways to record. There is "Full Motion" (FMR) where everything is recorded just like a movie. Not the best way of working bit is possible. In FMR no captions or anything of the sort is added during the recording process, but you may add them later if you like.
Then there is the "slide by slide" capture mode. Each click of the mouse generally results in a screen capture. But this mode of capturing has four variations.
* Demonstration
* Training Simulation
* Assessment Simulation
* Custom
Demonstration mode provides text captions for activity. Click this or that. Also, highlight boxes are added along with tracking mouse movement.
Both of the simulation modes will ignore text captions, mouse tracking and highlight boxes. Instead, these modes simply add Click Boxes and Text Entry Boxes to allow "simulation" or interacting with the Captivate. These objects offer "Feedback" captions to indicate Correct or Incorrect actions.
From what you have described, you want to enable "Custom" recording mode where you choose the mix of elements you get.
However, NONE of these modes will analyze what is happening and describe it to the user. Instead, they may or may not recognize what you are clicking on in order to create captions. You might see funky names like "Click the TechnicalNameForControl" control.

Text caption capture

I have (on my previous computer) captured Captivate
demonstrations where Captivate automatically inserted captions. I'm
trying to create an interactive training simulation and it doesn't
matter what Options I select under the auto-capture, Captivate is
not automatically inserting any captions, rollover captions or
highlight boxes. I have a Dell Dimension 3100 with Windows XP,
Version 5.1 SP2. Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm wondering if what you are seeing is possibly related to
the actual application being recorded. Perhaps Captivate simply
doesn't recognize some of the items in order to insert the Text
Caption. To test this, try opening Windows Notepad and record a
brief movie. See if it inserts captions there. If so, it's the
application you are recording and probably not Captivate.
Things to try:
Restart Captivate - Sometimes simply closing and restarting
Captivate does the trick.
Hunt and destroy the Captivate settings file - you can do
this by viewing the TechNote linked below:

Don't worry, Captivate easily rebuilds this file if it isn't
found. Oh yeah, you also want to be sure and Close Captivate before
doing this. No need to make it wander around your computer all bug
eyed wondering where the file went.

Text Caption Bubble with Bottom, Right-hand "Tail"

Hello,
There have been a number of times when using a Text Caption
bubble with a "tail" (not sure what that's really called) that
sticks out in the bottom right corner of the bubble. I can resize
my text to be able to use a different bubble that is available in
Captivate, but it would just be really nice if there were this
bubble in the set of available bubbles. Does anyone know if one
exists? And how can I add it to the set of choices for
adding/editing a text caption?

Ohhhhhkay. I see a few possibilities.
1. You may create your own Caption types. This is described
in the Captivate help file as well as on fellow Adobe Community
Expert Paul Dewhurst's site.

2. You could choose another caption style and use it. But I'm
guessing that's probably not an attractive option.
3. You could create or find and use just an image that points
where you want. Then cover it with the caption so that it appears
the image is starting from the caption.
4. You could choose another caption style that has the
Callout Pointers. Then simply insert the caption with the pointer
of your choice in the direction of your choosing. Then place that
behind the other caption. The consolidated result would be the
appearance of your existing caption and the one below.
Actually, #4 was what I was about to suggest for a caption
type that uses callout pointers. Sometimes you have a need to
arbitrarily place the callout pointer. In this case, you do as I
suggested above. Insert a caption with the pointer where you want
it, then cover it with a caption using no callout pointer. You are
then free to position the callout pointer exactly where you want it
to appear.

Creating Image Captions: Best Practice?

I'm currently using RoboHelp to create an HTML-based internal user guide for a software product. This guide has many images and figures in it and each will need an accompanying caption. Each caption must appear centered directly beneath the accompanying image.
I need some guidance on two issues, please:
1. What is the best practice for inserting a caption along with an image? I currently cannot find any tool or which enables a RoboHelp user to insert an image into a document and designate a caption to be displayed with that image.
2. Each image will be uniquely numbered (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.). It may be necessary, as the document is drafted and redrafted, to remove images from and insert other images into the document. How can the numbering of images be set up so that the removal or addition of an image will automatically reset the numbering of all affected images accordingly? I would very much like to avoid resetting dozens of image number-designations manually.

As far as the captions go, I would normally include the caption as part of the image itself. If you feel you must keep the text separate, I'm guessing you will need to resort to tables. One column and two rows.
As for the numbering, that one will be pretty tough. Keep in mind that in the world of HTML, people don't typically consume content in a linear fashion as they once did when all we had was print.
Someone may pop in here with some solution I've been unaware of. But presently, I'm unaware of a way to force that type of numbering.

Feedback nodes in Error cluster

Some time back I
had posted a VI called Simple StateMachine template. Based on the
comments from fellow members I have redone it and am attaching it
herewith. ( LV7.1 + Win_XP Professional )
If you just open it and check the block diagram, you will notice that
LV has introduced a feedback node in the error cluster looping between
DAQMx function Write Digital Output and Read Analog input. I am not
sure why LV does this even though the two functions have no common
reference or relevance between them.
You can also try this : Just remove the data lines to the two Digital
Out functions, and also the error cluster with Feedback node . Rewire
the Error cluster but this time without the feedback node. And now if
you try to connect the Digital Out data lines, you will find that the
Data lines are drawn with feed back nodes !!
I am sure LV is trying to tell me something - only that I don't understand what it is. Can some one elaborate on this ?

You have an impossible loop in your code (Run it with execution highlighting to verify):
Dig8-15 relies on data from the case structure.
analog input 0-7 provides data into the big case structure
This means that Dig8-15 cannot execute until the case has executed, but the case must wait for data from analog out. LabVIEW is smart enough to insert a feeback node such that AI0-7 gets the error from the previous interation. This is NOT a desirable situration.
Without the feedback node, yuor code is broken. AI0-7 cannnot run because it must wait for DO8-15 to execute. DO8-15 cannot execute because it must wait for AI0-7.
You should:
Uncheck the diagram option "Auto insert feedback nodes in cycles" to make sure to get broken wires so it is easier to find the problem.
FIx your dataflow. Please make sure your wires flow left-to-right, it make errors like this less likely. You need to wire the error clusters in the order the subVIS execute.

Closed Captioning in Premiere CS5

We are looking to upgrade to CS5 this year. Does Premiere allow us to insert closed captioning in a project and export as a mpeg2 file? We have to send our long form programming out of house for this now.

To the best of my knowledge, PrPro will only handle a variation of CC, and that would be with Lower-Thirds burned into the Video.
Now, Encore (the authoring program, that ships with PrPro) will do full CC, or Sub-Titles (similar, but different). One can output as an FLV Project, or as a DVD, or BD.

I am trying to put a caption on a photo. Why does the caption not show in the photo?

In iPhoto, I would like to insert a CAPTION in the photo. When i enter my caption, it shows on the screen on top, but does not show in my slide show pictures.
Can you help?

Adding a caption will add metadata tags to the photo, but not write the text as a graphics annotation overlay to the picture. The slideshow themes do not include the metadata tags. If you want to present the photos with captions, swipe them nanually and not as a slideshow.
You would need to find a different app to add graphic overlays to the photos for text written onto the photo.

I'm a bit fuzzy on what you are looking for.
If you are asking if you can create a hyperlink from a text
caption that will open a URL or something, the answer is that you
can, but not like you think. You would insert a caption and place
it, then insert a click box object and program it to point to the
URL. Then place the click box object over where you want your user
to click.
If you are asking if you can create a link that forces the
Closed Captioning to display, first off I'd wonder why a link when
clicking the CC button is so easy. But if you are asking if there
is a way to cause Closed Captioning to display without user
intervention, you need to take a look at fellow Adobe Community
Expert Paul Dewhurst's site and use one of his widgets.

Audio feedback on quiz buttons

Is there any way to add audio feedback to an automatically generated quiz button when it has been clicked e,g the submit button, undo button etc?
I have put audio feedback on smart shape buttons via advanced actions but an advanced action cannot be assigned to the above buttons.
Failing that is there a way to make a smart shape button into a submit button?

The embedded objects in quiz slides, those who have no separate timelines, are different from normal interactive objects. There is no real difference between normal buttons and shape buttons as you seem to tell at all, just between embedded buttons that have specific functionality and the normal buttons. There is no way to replace a quiz button by a shape button at this moment, but that wouldn't change the way they act.
If you want audio, you can attach it to the feedback captions (Success, Failure) or put them in actions that are triggered by the Submit button: the Success and Last Attempt actions. More details:

Feedback: technical style for unit preferences

in Preferences>Units & Rulers, simply write a unit label in terms of singular rather than plural.
with reference to technical styles for writing units, a unit label of 'mm' for millimeter is clear and usable. likewise for a unit label of 'cm' for centimeter.
HTML and CSS already specify guidelines for structured styles. i imagine that developers and users of software interfaces might also benefit from applicable uses of structured styles.
ps - i could use the Photoshop CS6 beta seamlessly into my image workflows.

It helps if you tell which version you are using.
Did you try to change the master quiz slides for the position of the feedback captions?
