Inserting flv (video) in DW8 page

I want to insert some small video clips in a website
(something akin to YouTube video clips in dimension, with playback
controls).
I've figured out how to create the video in Flash
(Professional 8) and create the flv that I need to place in DW8.
I'd like to include one of the pre-built 'skins' that are included
in Flash. The thing is, when insert the flv in DW8, the latter
seems to insist that I select a DW8 skin before placement of the
flv in the page. But the flv already includes a skin from Flash....
Anybody familiar with this? Any suggestions?
TIA
Hugh

Huh?
So, he would just insert the SWF file on the page, without
doing the Flash
video option?

  • Inserting FLV videos that allow student to start and stop anywhere

    Hello,
    I am inserting flv videos that students need to be able to start and stop anywhere, and when the video reaches the end, the student clicks on the NEXT button to go to next slide.
    As long as the student lets the video play without any interruptions, the NEXT button appears at the end.
    THe problem I am having is that everything works except the NEXT button is not appearing at the end of the Video unless the NEXT button is visible for the whole time the video is on.
    If the NEXT button is visible during the whole time the video is showing, the student is able to skip the video without watching it.
    I need the students to view the whole video as part of the course.
    Is this possible?

    Your original post didn't mention that the students should be able to repeat a portion of the video again if they choose to do so. This of course complicates matters further as you would then need to show either one of the standard Captivate playbars or use a Playbar widget as you are doing now. However, this also opens up for the user being able to skip the video once again, so it's not the best solution.
    As I see it you have two options:
    1) Present the video without the playbar as I described in my first post. Add the next button at the end of the video. This will make sure that the video has been watched to the end before the user can continue to the next slide. Perhaps you could add a "Replay" button so that the user would be able to watch the entire video again simply by replaying the slide.You can create Start and Stop(Pause) buttons by inserting Smart Shapes or Regular buttons and assign an Advanced Action to Pause or Continue the project.
    2) Modify one of the Playbar widgets so that the scrubber and the next button isn't activated until a certain frame has been reached on that particular slide. Once this frame is reached the widget could activate Play and Scrubber allowing the users to navigate to the next slide or move around in the video. However, this requires extensive knowledge of Flash and Actionscript to achieve and it will also be a very troublesome approach as the frame numbers would change if you insert new slides (or extend / shorten existing slides) prior to the slide(s) containing the video.

  • Insert several videos in a Pages file

    We have recently created a complex book in iBooks Author and as it was very interesting we wanted to make it available too in iPhone so we prepared a simpler version using Pages instead of Author.
    The problem was that we inserted several videos on a Pages file in order to upload a book visible on iPhone.
    When we send it to our iPhone we saw all videos were the same, and it was the first one we inserted.
    Trying to solve this problem, we decompressed epub file, looked into /OPS folder and we saw all <video src codes included the same video. It seems Pages rasterized each video under a new one and gives it the name of the book we defined in Pages.
    We saw all videos inserted in the book were all the same.
    Then we edited (with Dreamweaver) xhtml files and changed manually the name of the video in <video src codes and also added all m4v videos needed into /OPS folder. Also we added new elements into opf file.
    We recompress all folders into a zip file, rename it to epub and send to iPhone via Proofer and it worked fine and we saw all 8 videos correctly
    However, when we tried tu upload to Apple Store by means of iTunes Producer (last version) we get this error:
    1 package(s) were not uploaded because they had problems:
              /Users/un/Music/iTunes Producer/Playlists/Vernacle_iPhone.itmsp - Error Messages:
                       Apple's web service operation was not successful
                       Unable to authenticate the package: Vernacle_iPhone.itmsp
                       ERROR ITMS-9000: "Unable to parse opf file: container.xml" at Book (MZItmspBookPackage)
    Any ideas?
    PS as a reference, the same book in iBooks Author worked fine with each video correctly placed.

    When you post code, please use[code] and [/code] tags as described in Formatting tips on the message entry page. It makes it much easier to read.
    I'm confused, you are returning a GIF, not a PDF in the code below, but you are telling the client you are returning a JPEG.

  • Problem inserting FLV into template based page DW8

    Error when inserting an FLV into a template based page.
    The error is: "Making this change would require changing code
    that is locked by a template or translator. The change will be
    discarded."
    I thought perhaps something was wrong with my code so I
    created a new page in DW8, with one word of text. Saved the new
    page as a template with the one word of text made into an editable
    region. Created a page based on that template and attempted to
    insert a FLV file into the editable region (using Insert > Media
    > Flash Video). I still get the error message. I've attached the
    code for this page.
    I also get the error message when I go through the tutorial
    Presenting
    Video with the Flash Video Component in Dreamweaver 8. Using
    the files provided in the tutorial.
    Is the only workaround for this the one I found here?:
    http://med.stanford.edu/irt/web/references/flash_video_installation.html.
    Steps are under heading "Workaround for Locked Code insert error"
    near bottom of page.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • Inserting Flash Video in DW8

    I have inserted this flv file onto this webpage. I understand
    that the video does not play until the reader hits the start button
    but it deffinately appears that the files are downloaded to the
    server as soon as the reader opens the page. This page is read in a
    school system and we need to watch our bandwidth useage. The IT
    department will not let us use fies that download as soon as a page

    open the page and not have the files download until the reader hits
    the start button on the flv file.

  • Insert flv player into a page

    My problem is how to insert a .flv player into a jsf web page and be able to modify dinamically the movie address??
    Thank all for your help!!!

    one way to embedd flash player is to use swfobject.js
    http://blog.deconcept.com/swfobject/
    <script type="text/javascript"> var so = new SWFObject("location of ur swf (flash) player", "mymovie", "340", "300", "8", "#FFFFFF");
    so.addVariable("videoId", ID);
    so.write("flashcontent");
    </script>
    ID is the input that will change dynamically...ur flash player will read videoId and chose the location from where to stream the .flv file..
    remember u may need to write ur own .swf(flash player)...

  • DW CS4: FLV video not displaying

    I'm using Dreamweaver CS4 and I'm trying to put an FLV video on a page. I used Insert ->Media ->FLV... and filled in everything it asked for - I browsed for the video (which is in my root directory), I chose a skin, and I input width and height values. I uploaded the video to the server, I uploaded the newly created Scripts folder and its content to the server and, of course, I uploaded the page. I also uploaded FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf and Clear_Skin_3.swf to the root folder. But the video isn't showing.
    Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong here? It's a standard .flv video for Flash 8 and higher and plays just fine in a variety of players, including Adobe Media Player v. 1.8.
    Here's the page:
    http://StopRightNow.net/index.htm
    (The video should display in the large white area to the left of the page, opposite the body copy)
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    I would never have found that. Thanks VERY much! It's strange. When I put the video on the page, I selected Clear_Skin_3. And that's the file that was in my root folder and that I uploaded to the server. But somehow the code showed Clear_Skin_1. After I changed that 1 to a 3 in the page code, all was right with the world
    Again, many thanks for your help. It's much appreciated.

  • CS6 - Trouble displaying Flash video in Web pages

    Hi,
    Here's my problem: I embedded .flv videos in HTML pages the same way I've been doing it for years. It worked fine until I moved to CS6.
    The last video clips were edited and encoded in Flash format (1024x576 for 1800 bps) in Premiere CSS6 then embedded in HTML pages in DW CS6 after creating the .swf files with Flash CS6. All CS6, no compatilbity problems then.
    Once onlie, they fail to display properly, i.e. you have to click a couple of times on the Start/Pause button and occasionally refresh the page to be able to view the video. It's works fine once started but the trouble is getting it to start automatically.
    There's over 300 videos ranging from a few seconds to about 15 min on this site, and this is the very first time I come across this kind of problem.
    Any suggestion?
    Here's on of the old videos: http://www.aquiceara.com/UK/Video/Bresil_Maranhao_Survol_Lencois.html
    And here's one of the CS6 "troublesome" videos: http://www.aquiceara.com/UK/Video/Chine_HK_Tai_Hang.html

    The answer is to exactly copy the code from the CS5.5 and below versions of Dreamweaver.
    Bu Nancy is correct. Everyone is moving to other standards for video on websites. Nancy generally recommends Pickle Player and I have been hand-coding using the HTML5 standards. I have generally found that all videos play in all browsers using the new standards, though you do have to support OGG and WEBM video files on your server.

    It can be done, since youtube does it. But that requires
    heavy-duty programming and I suspect some
    special server components (maybe Flash Server must be
    installed too or something).
    In any case that's not something you can do with Dreamweaver
    or without a thorough knowledge of
    server-side programming.
    An alternative is to create a swf file in Flash that will
    import linked media. You can link
    quicktime videos dynamically and play them in the swf.
    I'm not sure what other video formats are supported. You
    might want to look into the Flash Media
    Player component.

    Are you sure you aren't working with a template driven page?
    When you insert media files into DW, it must write code in the <head> tags to reference Scripts necessary for Flash media to work on the web.
    If you're working with a page that was created from a Template, the DWT page must have editable regions in the <head> tags, or you won't be able to add media to your web pages.

The remainder of the site looks great, but I need to insert some video clips on this one page and it won't do it. Please help me!!

    Go to Sites > Manage Sites > Edit your site definition settings.  If you haven't defined a site yet, Hit NEW and set-up your Local Info first.
    Then, select Remote Info (it's in the Advanced panel).
    Fill in the fields with the log-in details your host sent you.   This is how DW will connect you to the remote server.
    NOTE: my screenshot looks different but you get the general idea.
    Hit OK.
    Select your test page in the Files Panel and hit the UP arrow to upload your page & dependant files to the remote server.   As Hans said earlier, you need all four files to support Flash Video.
    Come back and post the URL to your page.

  • On 'insert FLV' player sits on top of video, not below

    Hi, there.
         I'm not a website designer, just a vdeo editor, who would like to post an FLV on a simple page with flash player controls below the video.  In the past when I've used the 'insert flv' function, I've been able to have the player sit below the image.  Now, when I insert an FLV, the player sits on top of the video.  Is there any way to fix this without adjusting the code? (which I don't know how to do) Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

    This behavior depends on the player template you choose. If you think the result you see is incorrect, adjust the height and width attributes, which can be done in the property inspector, if you're not into code.

    be discarded."
    The Adobe recommended solution: “ 1. Make a parent
    template page that already contains the Flash Player detection
    code. 2. Insert the Flash Video into the child page created from
    the template, without the Flash Player detection code. To do this,
    uncheck the "Prompt users to download Flash Player if necessary"
    checkbox in the Insert Flash Video dialog box.”
    This solution does not work. It doesn’t work because
    the checkbox is grayed out - it is impossible to “…
    uncheck the "Prompt users to download Flash Player … checkbox
    What Can I do?
    I want to uncheck that grayed out “Prompt” box.
    How can I do that?

    I am unable to duplicate what you are describing.
    When you go to insert the flv, you Insert/Media/Flash
    Video... and the box
    is grayed out?
    The unchecking of the box solves the problem, why yours is
    doing that I dont
    understand. I assume you are in an editable region in the
    child?

  • Please help me load an .flv video that has been embeded onto a web page

    Hello there,
    I was hoping someone on this forum could please help me with one specific problem that I am having. I would like to embed the a flash player into an html page, and load the video from a service that has the streaming video provided.
    This is the context of the situation...
    We have created a site that was to be used on a showroom floor (no internet connection) and loaded the .flv videos at the local root level for the site.
    Now however, we would like it to be an online site. I have been able to use the flash "jw player"to load videos to play using the shadowbox javascript, but when I try to embed it onto a page and have it play, it isn't working and I am not sure why.
    Below is the code that is currently working to load the videos on the local root level.
    Might someone have any ideas on what I need to replace to have it load the videos from the streaming service?
    I would greatly appreciate any assistance that could be provided.  I can also provide a URL if it would help.
    I would GREATLY appreciate any assistance provided.
    <script type="text/javascript" src="swfobject.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    swfobject.registerObject("player1","9.0.98","expressInstall.swf");
    </script>
    <object id="player1" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" name="player" width="640" height="380">
    <param name="movie" value="player.swf" />
    <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" />
    <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" />
    <param name="flashvars" value="file=assets/videos/Bob_Peebler.flv&image=images/videoStatic_Peebler.jpg" />
    <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="player.swf" width="640" height="380">
    <param name="movie" value="player.swf" />
    <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" />
    <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" />
    <param name="flashvars" value="file=assets/videos/Bob_Peebler.flv&image=images/videoStatic_Peebler.jpg" />
    <p><a href="http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer">Get Flash</a> to see this player.</p>
    </object>
    </object>

    Hello,
    Thanks  a lot for the reply.  However, I am pretty confident that the jw player supports the streaming video option, but as I mentioned that I was able to use it as a popup using the shadowbox javascript before. After doing a bit of investigating on how the videos are hosted, I am using "progressive download" method for these videos.
    I think the problem is that the player.swf is hosted on my website server -  and the videos are then hosted on the media hosting service.  I think that the player needs to be located on the media hosting service, and then embedded onto the page along with where to point to the .flv video.  Does that sound right?
    If so, the paramater I am using to embed the player as I mentioned in my original post is simply:
    <param name="movie" value="player.swf" />
    does the "value" then have to change to the http:// address for the video player.swf that would then be hosted on my video hosting service?
    Little help?
    Please let me know if there is anything I can provide to clarify the issue.
    Thanks
    M
