Inserting headphone jack into Zen Vision M makes it shut down...

Well my Vision 60GB is way out of warranty so all Creative will offer to do is sell me a new player.
Basically the small circular bit of plastic has gone missing, and whenever I insert earphones (well, all apart from my Creative EP-630's ironically) the "shutting down..." message comes up and it turns off.
My guess is it's causing it to short, but why the heck does it happen with everything i've tried apart from the ones mentioned above? What makes it even stranger is i've tried putting a piece of paper over the connection and pushing it through (therefor stopping it from shorting), but it STILL makes it shut-down.
It's all very weird, and I'm wondering if anyones encountered this problem before?

I don't know why it's doing that with all headphones other than the EP-630's. Have you tried inserting the headphones first then turning on the player? Can't say I've encountered that before. :smileyindifferent:

I do not have a startup disk. I did try fsck (based on what I learned from your reply-thank you). This failed (fsck); here is the message:
    ** Checking catalog file.

I am sure this is an easy fix; I just have no clue how.

  • How 2 make automator shut down macbook?

is there anyway i can make automator shut down mac book or put it to sleep when a particular list of tasks is done?
also if possible wake it up or boot it up as and when required.

hello Neil, what u adviced pretty much solves my issue so please notice the star.
however, i have kept the thread as unanswered cause i have one more question, if you could help me out. i pasted the script in 'run apple script' action it did put my mac to sleep. then, using script editor i saved the script as an app and then using 'launch application' action i pointed to this app. this time too the mac went to sleep but there was an error in automator when i woke it up which asked me to check the action's properties. so can u tell me what is happening? also, later i saved the script as a script file using script editor. now i cant find any automator action to point to this script like i could point to an app using 'launch application' action. any help on that?
i appreciate your time. mac is beautiful. and after i am done with my java web development course i definitely got to learn apple script.

  • Headphone jack on Zen To

The headphonejack for my zen touch has moved out of line so i am unable to hear stereo sound through my headphones now (it only comes out of one ear piece.) The warrenty has ran out so i am left tring to find a way to fix it. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there anywhere you can send or take yhe Zen Touch to get it repaired. Cheers Aaron

i recently got my micro replaced at best buy after it had the headphone jack issue, and my new one is having the same problem. I'm pretty sure best buy gyped me though because they gave me a micro that was sitting out on a table like it was used or something. Since this was within the last 3 months am i able to mail my micro in to creative to get one of the new, hopefully fixed, ones for free? It's soooo frustrating because i love the micro but the stupid head phone jack just makes me want to strangle it.

  • Buzzing and skipping when removing or inserting headphone jack

While listening to audio through iTunes, switching between the internal speakers or headphones via removing or inserting a headphone jack, often results in a loud buzzing noise. Pausing iTunes eliminates the sound, but it sometimes comes back when I press play once again. It also sometimes results in the audio skipping, and the entire computer freezing, while the sudio skips. What the **** is going on here? Do I need a new sound card?

    Try resetting PRAM and SMC.

  • Problem with headphone jack on zen micro and customer support hel

I have had a zen micro for about a month now and i am very pleased with my purchase. BUT a few days ago the sound suddenly changed whilst i was listening to it. i found out it was a faulty headphone jack. i emailed customer support to arrange a replacement and the replied asking to send back information about my player then they would send me a returns number.i did that and im still waiting for the returns number 3 days later!
i was wondering if anyone else is experienceing the same problem as me and how long it takes for customer support to send you a returns number?
im afraid i will eventualy get a relpacement and the same thing will happen again. anyone got any advice on how to avoid the problem?Message Edited by alexkelly on 02-02-2005 09:0 PM

This happened to me as well after about a week. Like most portable devices I think the headphone jack is one of the weak points and can be easily jarred from its solder joints. I am taking extra care with the replacement Creative sent and I expect that it will not happen again.
As far as getting the replacement, I would recommend calling Customer Support directly and explain what the problem is and they should give you an RMA over the phone. Be sure to have the player in front of you as they will need the serial number that is on it. I was very impressed with the speed of service as well. I called them Monday morning, sent my Micro back after the phone call (I used Priority Insured Mail, be sure to insure it whatever you use) and they sent me a replacement that arri'ved the following Tuesday, just 8 days which I have only had one other company beat as far as service ever. Also be sure to backup everything on your Micro before sending it as you will probably not receive the same one back and I believe they format them on the way in the door for various reasons. Also they will tell you only send the the player back, keep all the accessories as you will only get a player sent back to you. Good luck!

  • The old Zen touch into zen vision w tr

I'm sure this has been posted years ago, but is there any way to put the music from the zen touch back into your computer or into the zen vision w. Or is it that the zen touch really sucks because its encrypted?

Encrypted? Definitely not. I am able to transfer files between my Touch and my computer without a problem. Are the files you are trying to transfer from an online store? or are they from CDs that you have ripped?Eric

  • Different headphone jack problem: zen mi

Hello,?I have read the topics about the headphone jack problem. And i followed the fix. It did not work. The topics describe thwt one half of the headphone doesnot work: left or right. This is not my problem. The headphone gives a very low volume, and bad quality sound,? untill i twist the headphone long enough... its not the headphone thats broke, i tried different ones. Anyone had this before, or knows what could be wrong? Thanks.

I've got the same problem, it developed about 4 months after I purchased the player. At first I just ignored it and proped it against something to keep some pressure on the jack, but now its way to bothersome. The warrenty is void and the tech support people only say that they can fix it for me or help me fix it if I pay a butt-load of money.....
So the question is, what to do about it's

  • Beer might have gone into MacBook Pro from the back, shut down on its own 5 minutes later. what to do?

I'm currently working in Myanmar and no chance to going into a Mac service provider or store. I was using my Macbook Pro (mid 2010) when beer was spilled onto the table. I lifted the computer instantly and as i did not see liquid on the machine and also it had a protective cover i was sure no liquid got in. I removed the cover and it was dry but then 5 minutes later it shut down on its own and it would not turn back on or charge. I left it for an hour or so and then it turned back on and was charging but then since i thought that may be it was because some liquid got in, I turned it off again immediately and disconnected from power source.
what is the best way to proceed knowing i won't be able to bring it in to a technician anytime soon?

without on hand diagnostics, nobody can tell you the correct answer on that. No.
5 minutes later it shut down on its own and it would not turn back on or charge.
    bad news
Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.
The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.
contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement.

Search on "My Zen is not starting properly, or goes into rescue mode, what should I do?" in the FAQ post and try the advice there.

If this worries you then you might want to return your player anyway. If you bought it from a high street shop (as opposed to Internet) then it might be quicker to return it there.

after twenty seconds, reboot it, same thing.
this is a first, any ideas?

    Hello tsnovak!
Is English your first language? If not, I can help get someone who can speak your language to translate this article.
Tsnovak, you seem to be on a Apple Logo Loop. This has happened with several iPod generations. Contact Apple Support here: <https://www.apple.com/support/contact/>

  • When plugging iPhone into computer to sync DELL computer shuts down

I am trying to sync my iPhone (adding new music). When I plug my phone into my DELL computer , it first recognizes the hardware , then computer screen goes blank. I have tried different USB ports.
I get an error saying NET Framework, and have tried to install this software but then it says not compatible.
Also I called support and the rep suggested to open MSN as my browser and that did help previously, but now I am having the same problem with my computer screen going blank when I plug in my phone.
Is there anything anyone can suggest to do?

Does it display a blue screen with diagnostic information before shutting down? Do you have a scanner or Webcam? If so you need to upgrade the drivers for these. See

  • Headphone jack on zen micro isnt work

You cant hear it unless i hold the head phone cord it in a certain position, anything i can do to fix it's or do i need to send it in?

You will have to send in. I sent mine in 2 weeks ago and received it back yesterday. Good turn around time and best of all I received another battery and earbuds back.

  • Mac only boots into Windows, then blue screen, then shuts down

I just got a new MacBook Pro in January (and this is my first Mac) and purchased Windows 7 to run on it. I've successfully run it since then, but just last week my computer froze and now when I try to restart it, it goes to the black "starting windows" screen and then immediately flashes to a blue screen for only a few seconds that says:
    CACHE_MANAGER
If this is the first time you'v eseen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps.
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manfuacturer for any windows updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to selected Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.
    Technical Information:

    Collecting data for crash dump...
    Initializing disk for crash dump...
    Beginning dump of physical memory...
Dumping physical memory to disk: 100
I tried booting my computer up in safe mode, but it doesn't work - goes to the same blue screen and crashes. I also tried the "startup repair" tool, which did not find anything to repair, and the option to restore the computer to a previous time when it operated, but that didn't work either. I tried the memory diagnostic and it did not find any problems.
When I boot it up, I try holding down the option key, I only get the option to start up in the Windows partition of my drive. There is no option to start my computer using the Mac OSX drive. I think this is an issue with Windows, but I'm not sure if it could be an issue with my Mac operating system or hardware.
I appreciate any help someone can provide!

I'm suffering from the same bug, and I think it's related to Apple_HFS driver.

  • One of my indd files makes inDesign shut down immediately upon opening?!

I cant get into the file to fix the problem as it crashes inDesign during opening. Other indd files open fine and inDesign works as it should. i have the latest version etc
    HELP

That, work fromn a backup copy of a previous version if you have one, or you can pay Markzware to try a recovery (Bad InDesign or Quark File Recovery Submission Form ), but it is not cost effective unless you have more than a few hundred dollars of time to recreate the file.
I notice the file was over 20 mb, which is pretty big for a .indd. Does it have a lot of pasted content? If so, placing art instead of pasting would be a good idea. If not, it probably indicates that the file had a lot of useless change information built up over time. You can get rid of that by doing a periodic Save As, and I advise using a new name each time (I add a version suffix) so you have a backup chain in case of disaster.
