Inserting Object in PowerPoint 2013

Hi All,
We are unable to add a pdf(Adobe Reader 11.0.09) as an object in the powerpoint document. Insert- Object- Create from file- Browse the file and display as icon. We get the error: " The server application, source file, or item can't be found, or returned
an unknown error.
You may need to reinstall the server application"
We have already tried the solutions enlisted by other websites:
- Adobe Reader X is not in protected mode
- We have the latest version of antivirus in place(FEP)
- Tried re-registering OLE32.DLL
- Some websites indicated the old components of MS Office can cause compatibility issues- I have hence un-installed MS Webcompoents 2003
- I have tried running Procmon but wasnt able to find anything unusual- All the files were clearly accessed- no lockouts, no access denied
Has anybody faced the same issue before? Do we have any application having compatibility issues with Office or Adobe?
PS: We have recently moved over to MS Office 2013 and we did not face this issue with MS powerpoint 2010
Appreciate a response! Thanks.
V
Vas

Seems you have tried all possible solution for this issue. Do you have the "Link" check box selected when insert the PDF as an object?
Try running a repair of your office installation to see if it works:

  • Cannot Insert Object in Excel 2013

I am having trouble inserting PDF's in Excel 2013. I go to Insert-->Object-->Create from File then browse to the PDF and select the checkbox for "Display as Icon." After doing this i get a generic error message that says "Cannot Insert Object." No other details.
    Specs:
    Windows 7 x64
    Office 2013 x64
Adobe Reader X and XI. Tried them both.
    What I have tried:
The most common answer I have found was to disable the enhanced security in the Adobe Reader preferences. This does not help.
I also tried downgrading from Adobe Reader XI to Reader x, disabling enhanced security. That does not work either.
I have found a workaround in Excel by going to Insert-->Package and doing it that way, but it does not show the Adobe Reader icon in the spreadsheet when it's done. If there's a way to use this method and still have the adobe icon that'd be great.
I called Microsoft support and they think this is an Adobe issue, because I can insert other things via the create from file method, just not PDF's.
    Other notes:
The Insert-->Object-->Create from File method works fine in Excel 2010 so I think that Adobe Reader doesn't do well with Excel 2013.
I need the inserted PDF's in spreadsheets to look a certain way. They must have the Adobe Icon and I need to be able to change the text below the icon.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?

    Update:
I uninstalled Adobe Reader and tried a different PDF reader and the insert in Excel works fine. I really would prefer to use Adobe though. This leads me to believe that maybe it's just a setting or something in Adobe reader. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  • Cannot insert object error using Power View in Excel 2013

I created a short table in Excel 2013, positioned the cursor in the table and clicked Inset/Power View Report. I get a status window saying Excel is opening a Power View sheet but then I get a Power View error: Cannot Insert Object. I am able to insert new
tabs in the workbook. When I try the insert again, I just get the Power View error. I looked at other threads with similar issues and did the following:
Made the Formula bar visible - no change
Tried to repair Office 2013 but that option is not available when I right click on the program in the Control Panel
De-installed Silverlight - Tried to insert Power View Report. A Power View tab was created with the Power View picture and Power View ribbon. Got the message to install Silverlight and Reload. Installed Silverlight hit Reload and the Power View tab didn't
change. Hit Power View Report and got the Cannot Insert Object error message again.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi,
Did you use PowerView first time? I notice you had found a similar thread and tested the solutions.
PowerView is an add-in in Excel2013, We must make sure that you check some option in the trust center and Add-in center.

  • PowerPoint 2013: New problem experienced in last seven days - Placeholders not taking objects Cut from them and attempted to re re-anchored.

    Hello,
I am running Office 2013 Professional Plus and in PowerPoint 2013 (15.0.4605.1000 64 bit) on Windows 8.
Ihave always been able to anchor content to placeholders (tables, text, images, and so on). In the last week this is no longer the case if an object has been anchored already.
For example, I have an existing slide with a Content placeholder, and a table anchored to it. I cut the table, reselect my placeholder to get the white handles, and attempt to paste. It will paste the table as it was, but it is no longer anchorable to a
    placeholder.
This is a critical issue for us as we are about to upgrade our corporate  brand/template and be required to upgrade thousands of documents and hundreds of thousands of pages of content.
Can anyone advise a workaround? This is my first post on MDN and apologize for any missing elements.
    Anthony

    Hi Anthony,
Thank you for posting in the MSDN Forum.
Since the issue is more relate to the end-user, I'd like to move it to

The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us.
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • Photo Album Insertion in PowerPoint 2013

After creating a default template to change the default slide size to 4:3 (rather than 16.9), PowerPoint 2013 continues to insert image files onto a 16:9 slides when using the 'Photo Album' tool -- even if the default 4:3 template is manually selected
from the drop down box.  Perhaps there is another default configuration file that is utilized by the Photo Album tool?

I found a slight workaround for this problem. I too changed my default theme/template and was disappointed when photo albums were still created in 16:9, and was then further disappointed by the fact that when you subsequently changed the presentation to
4:3 using 'Ensure Fit' (maximize not an option as it crops), the photos/images were absolutely tiny.
    In PowerPoint 2013:
Insert a photo album. Select all the pictures you actually want and click create
On the Design ribbon, press Slide Size and Select 4:3
Click 'Ensure Fit' because you don't really have a choice as Maximise crops images.
Frown in digust at the tiny images that now appear on the 4:3 slide
On the Insert Ribbon, hit the down arrow on 'Photo Album' and select 'Edit Photo Album'
    Click update
Your tiny images will now be resized to make the most of the new 4:3 slide format
(depending on what settings you chose in the 'Album Layout' section of inserting the photo album, e.g. Fit to slide)

  • Powerpoint 2013 - Insert chart issue

    Here's a strange one -
User is admin on their PC. When user runs Powerpoint 2013 (Office Standard), and attempts to insert a chart of any kind, it will not. No error is displayed at all. It seems to think a second, then goes back to the chart selection screen. The same symptom
appears with Word 2013 as well. Excel seems to be fine.
Logged in as domain administrator, it all works fine.
    Now...what's the deal here?

It seems to be a permission issue (e.g. to access certain registry entry).
    Try use the
Process Monitor to capture what happened when the users trying to insert the chart.
Especially for the Access Denied event.
And give the users proper permission to access the corresponding items.

  • PowerPoint 2013 Insert Online Video not available

    Hello
Just trying out PowerPoint 2013 and I noticed I am not able to insert a video.
Proceeding to Insert tab, Media ribbon, and then "Online Video..." brings up a screen that only says "Sign in with your Microsoft account to insert photos and videos from Facebook, SkyDrive, and other sites.
I wish to use embed code to insert a YouTube video.

The process is right. Currently using embed code or insert Online video is causing a lot of problems in PowerPoint 2013. One day it works, and another it doesn't. We are all waiting for Microsoft/Google/Adobe to sort this out.

  • Creating a new chart in PowerPoint 2013 with Chart Styles applied

In PowerPoint 2013 when I manually insert a new chart into a slide, the chart automatically has the Chart Style "Style 1" applied. This has the effect of setting the font sizes of chart labels to 12.
However, no Chart Styles are applied if I try to add a new chart to PowerPoint 2013 using the following C# code:
    var ppt = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.PowerPoint.Application();
    var presentation = ppt.Presentations.Add();
    var layout = Microsoft.Office.Interop.PowerPoint.PpSlideLayout.ppLayoutChart;
    var slide = presentation.Slides.Add(1, layout);
    var shapes = slide.Shapes;
    shapes.AddChart();
Font sizes seem to default to 18. Is there any way to create a chart or to set Chart Styles using Interop so that it matches a chart produced manually (i.e. has Chart Styles applied)?
I am aware of the Chart.ChartStyle property but it only seems to change chart colors and legend placement, not font size. There is no Macro recorder in PowerPoint, so I can't generate VBA code to replicate the action of creating a new chart.

    Hi
    >> there any way to create a chart or to set Chart Styles using Interop so that it matches a chart produced manually (i.e. has Chart Styles applied)?
You can add using shapes.AddChart2() instead of the last sentence shapes.AddChart(), I have tested in my projects, if I using AddChart(), the label size and the space will be different from manually insert a chart into a slide, but AddChart2() is the same
    with manually operating.
And This object, member, or enumeration is deprecated and is not intended to be used in your code.
More details you cab refer to the following link

  • Unable to edit Visio 2013 drawing in Powerpoint 2013

    Hello,
I'm unable to edit drawings created in Visio 2013 that I've embedded in Powerpoint 2013 - they copy over as pictures and I can only edit them as such.
Interestingly, I CAN edit Visio 2013 drawings that I have embedded in Powerpoint 2002/XP.
I'm embedding by simply copying the drawing and then pasting on the slide.
    Thanks,
    Tyson

Open PowerPoint 2013, go to Insert tab > Object > Create a new "Microsoft Visio Drawing", I can edit the drawing what I wanna edit.
open Visio 2013, create a new Drawing File and save as .VSDX file format, and then drag and move this file into a new creaing PPT, I can still edit it as expected.
A bit more background information and your exact steps how you got to this point would be helpfu

  • "There isn't enough memory to read worksheet" error when tried to open xlsx object from Powerpoint 2010

    Hi,
I have a powerpoint presentation (will call it A.PPTX) which has an embedded spreadsheet object (B.XLSX). I was able to double click the object in "A" and open "B.XLSX" as and when necessary.
today, i opened B from the A and inserted another spreadsheet C.XLSX as an object in B. Closed all the files and saved A.PPTX. when i tried double click and tried to open B.XLSX from the powerpoint, i am getting an error "There isn't enough memory to
    read worksheet"
Unfortunately, i don't have a backup of B.XLSX as I always edited it by opening it from the presentation. is there a way to recover it?
    Note:
    1. read through similar threads in the forum about errors while inserting objects or similar error in Powerpoint 2003. the solution provided did not help

    Hi
By the description, you want to recover the embedded worksheet in PowerPoint.
    Try following methods:
    1.Click to the presentation file
2.Change the file extension from pptx to zip
3.Open the file, locate to ppt>embeddings
4.There you will see the embedded worksheet
5.Save the file to another path and open it
If the worksheet is still corrupted, following these steps to recover an Excel file:
1.Change the file extension from xlsx to zip
2.Open the file, locate to xl>workbook.xml
    3. These XML files contain the data of each spreadsheet.
4.Copy the data to a new worksheet and save

    Hi Pradeep,
I would like to confirm that how exactly you want PowerPoint 2013 to play a sound. For example, add sound to your PowerPoint slide transitions, add background music, or play a sound during an Animation.
To play a sound during a transition, go to the Transitions tab on the ribbon, apply a transition, then click the drop-down for
Sound, and choose one from the list.
To add audio in the background, you can go to the Insert tab on the ribbon and click the
