Inserting Remote Image In Mail Message?

Hi,
Is it possible to link to a Remote Image in an Apple Mail Message and have it load within the e-mail? What I mean is, can you link to a photo on a site like Flickr, and have the image display within the e-mail, rather than just the text link?

this is possible but you have to jump through hoops to do it which personally strikes me as completely ridiculous.
the only way I know how to achieve this is the following.
make an html document using your favorite html editor and insert a remote pic in it.
then open this file in safari and enter command+i. this page will be opened in a new outgoing mail message and you can mail it.
I would be delighted to know if there is an easier way to do this.

    Nurit,
The point is that that button should not be there, if the preference setting is as you say. This indicates the preference setting is stuck, and that is what I was trying to help you resolve.
The full purge is done as follows:
Quit Mail, and in the Finder open Home/Library and locate the Mail folder. Control-click over the Mail folder, and choose Duplicate -- then drag the resulting copy to the Desktop for temporary backup. Next, open Home/Library/Preferences and find the com.apple.mail.plist file and drag it to the desktop.
Relaunch Mail, which will open as though new, and when prompted to import anything DECLINE. Instead, re-enter your account info, and Mail will re-discover the account folders for your accounts, and all should be well, after setting preferences as you desire.
Ask any needed questions, and keep us posted.

  • Cannot display remote images in HTML messages

    Hi all.
This has been a problem since Tiger for me and ironically, is affecting me on two macs (although I sync the two together, so whatever the problem is, I'm guessing it's been copied to both locations). Here's the deal:
I cannot display images in my messages. If I click the checkbox (under viewing in mail prefs) "display remote images in HTML messages" I get the same behavior as if it is unchecked. I've tried checking and unchecking to no avail. My guess is a corrupted preference file, but I don't know which one. If I delete my mail prefs, will I need to do anything with regards to my mailboxes etc? I have over 3GB of offline mail, all filed away into hundreds of folders and do NOT want to mess with that.
Any suggestions are most appreciated. I'd love to see my images again without clicking on the "load images" button for EVERY email.
    Thanks,
    Rob

I can't believe there's no answer for this at Apple Support! (I looked.) On my MacBook with Leopard (10.5.6 and Mail 3.5) the problem is fairly recent - I only noticed it a few days ago. Unchecking and rechecking the Display remote images in HTML messages does not work, and neither does restarting the computer (I rarely do, preferring to put it to sleep.) Before I removed the plist I thought I'd check here first, having the same reasons for reluctance as xrob - and a good thing I did, too. I'd hate to have the same (bad) experience as someone who already tried it. The only thing I can think that I changed recently was to add SSL support to (all) my accounts. Could that be the culprit? I guess not. I removed "use SSL" on one of the accounts but it changed nothing, except for the port number. I closed and re-opened Mail but did not restart the computer. And, where do you find the "load images" button?

  • Show remote images in Mail.app

I have remote images in HTML e-mails turned off in Mail.app, because most HTML e-mails I get with remote images are spam. But I get some legit e-mails with remote images, always from the same sender. There's no option in Mail.app's Rules to automatically show remote images if the message comes from a specific sender, but I do see an option to run an applescript.
So is there a script for Mail.app that will turn on remote image display for a message?

Sorry. I misunderstood your question. Here's a script that should do what you are asking for:
    --BEGINNING OF SCRIPT
    using terms from application "Mail"
on perform mail action with messages theMessages for rule theRule
    tell application "Mail"
    activate
    repeat with eachMessage in theMessages
    open eachMessage
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Mail"
if button "Load Images" of front window exists then
click button "Load Images" of front window
    end if
    end tell
    end repeat
    end tell
end perform mail action with messages
    end using terms from
    --END OF SCRIPT
Please let me know if anything doesn't work as expected.

  • Inserting an image to a message post or attaching images to a post or creating a gallery

    Hi:
I'm trying to either attach an image to a message post or insert it in-line with a message.  I've read several references to this ability perhaps being something that will happen "soon", but those messages that refer to this are dated in August of 2009.  Here it is December and I still can't figure out how.
The online help says very clearly:
How do I insert an image in a post?
You insert an image the same way as you did before, but now you have more choices about where the image comes from and how it looks. You can insert an image from your computer (this uploads the image to your gallery), from your image gallery (if the image has been approved), or from another location on the Web.
To insert an image in a post:
    Start a new post.
You can insert images anywhere: in messages, replies, blog articles, ideas, or comments.
Click the Insert Image button in the editor's tool bar (it looks like a tree).
Well, I don't know how you could do it "before", but there is no "Insert Image" button in the editor's toolbar at all.
There are also messages in this forum that say you can paste from a Word document (there IS a "Paste from Word" icon on the toolbar.)  However, when I paste from word, the images in my Word document are lost.
Finally, I thought I'd post the images in a gallery.  Again the online help says:
To upload an image to your image gallery:
Go to your Profile page and click the View Image Gallery link.
Click Browse to select an image file to be uploaded.
If the image is small enough (the size limit is set by your community), the image is uploaded. A preview of the image appears so that you can make sure you uploaded the right image.
There is no "View Image Gallery" link on my profile page.
Now, I am a computer consultant and therefore (hopefully) very computer-savvy, so this is not an issue with me being a forum "novice."  But I've always had issues with help documents that say "click on this icon" and don't show a screenshot of where the icon is.
And, I can't PROVE that my profile page doesn't have a gallery link because I can't upload a screenshot! <grin>.
So, can anyone clarify if and how we can upload images?  Or if there is a definitive help document that lays this out, provide a link to that document?  The help "search" function is pretty weak, because it does a FORUM search on any term you type in, rather than restricting it to help documents.
There's also some references to having to be a "silver member" in order to upload images, but no information on what is required to become such a member.
    Thanks
    Ron

Many community members will ask (and have asked in the past) exactly what the criteria is for achieving each rank in the hierarchy.  To eliminate the likelihood of system abuse or forum ‘rank climbing’, we have decided not to publicize the exact ranking criteria.  That said, community members will gain higher ranking by excelling in the activity components below.  The list is not in order of importance and some elements are weighted greater than others.
    Kudos Given
    Kudos Received
Length of Time on the Community
    Number of logins

Total number of Posts (minus deleted posts)

  • Downloading images in Mail messages

What can I do to see images is mail that are shown only by the box with the Question mark in it? I find it frustrating as some of the images are important to the particular message. Thanks for any advice.

    Greetings,
You've posted in the Leopard forum, even though you're running Snow Leopard. You need to pay closer attention to be sure you're posting in the correct forum for the OS you're running. I will have the moderators move it.
What can do to get the images to move again in [M]ail.
You can't. The ability to see moving .gif images in Mail was removed in Leopard, without any notice by Apple. You can send them to others, but you won't see them move if they are sent to you.

  • Images in Mail messages NOT moving

I used to have messages with .gif images show the movement in the message window. Now when I check my email and it has an image which is supposed to wave, or walk, etc. there is no movement unless I drag it to the desktop and open it in preview, but then it only shows a set of images which will move if you click through them fast enough.
What can do to get the images to move again in mail.

  • Problems attaching scanned jpg images to mail messages

We are having issues attaching scanned images from a Epson SX600FW all in one printer/scanner/fax machine into mail on my dad's MacBook.
Basically if I attach a jpeg from any other source (internet or digital camera) to a message, they attach ok but if I attach a file from this printer Mail stops responding and the rotating ball comes up.
The odd thing is if I attach a file from another source first and then an image from the printer it attaches fine but if I only attach a file from the printer Mail hangs.
    Any ideas anyone ?

Many times you need Photo Software. This allows your Photo's to be .jpg Format then you can copy and paste, or Drag and Drop. The  Key is the Format of your photos. Many Cameras and other periphials make there scans and photo's .jpg format by default.  If you do not have the software here is a Free on that is comparible too Adobe's Photoshop.

  • How to disable message images in Mail app for all but contacts?

I use the Mail app for OS X Mavericks and have been inundated with spam lately. I understand that spam email campaigns can confirm that you have opened their mail (and subsequently continue to send you mail) by image tracking so I would like to disable images from showing for all except my contacts. I don't recall if it was with Mail or another email client I previously used, but I vaguely remember message images not showing by default and requiring you to click a button at the top of the message in order to show the images within it. If possible, I would like to be able to do this for non-contacts.
So my question is: how can I disable images from showing, by default, in messages from non-contacts within the Mail app?
If there is no way to do this, can someone suggest an alternative email client for Mac OS that does allow this? I am willing to change if this feature does not exist within the Mail app.
    Thanks for your time.

Personally, I've never heard of spammers tracking by a contact's image. I think you might be confusing this with the images in the message.
Spammers can do two things to track you.
    1) Send an email with a read receipt. Mail doesn't support read receipts
    2) Send an email with an embedded image (sometimes called a bug or beacon). When the email is opened, the email software loads the image from the remote server by sending it an HTTP request.
If a message matches the junk mail criteria, then a bar will appear near the top of the message. External images in the message will automatically be disabled, so that spam authors won’t be able to track if you’ve opened the message. To load the images, click the “Load Images” button in the bar, or to mark the message as not junk, select “Not Junk.”
Mail > Preferences > Viewing >Uncheck Display remote images in HTML messages.
Enable Junk filtering in Mail Preferences. Check "sender in in contacts, sender in in previous recipients**, message is addressed using full name.
Use SpamSieve, third party product to filter spam, http://c-command.com/spamsieve/
Keep contacts in your Address Book.
Mark messages as junk to help train the junk filter.
Don't open a message you think is spam. You should be able to see enough of a message in the preview to know if it's spam.
** Open Previous Recipients under Window in the Menu bar. Remove any addresses from spammers.

  • Images do not appear in mail messages

After the recent combined update to OS 10.7.3 MAIL does not show images as part of received messages. Instead the messages are littered with square boxes with question marks inside them. This only happens on my MacBook Pro 2.93GHz Intel Core Duo with 4GB ram and not on my iMac running the same system.
I have tried junking preferences etc but no change.
I have also made sure that the "Display remote images in HTML messages" is checked in MAIL preferences.
Any ideas anyone at Apple or on the forum???
    Many thanks

OK, resolved. It was Little Snitch that was denying acces on Port 80.
Changed this to allow traffic and images are back in my messages.
Hope this is the solution for anyone else with the same problem.
    Thanks for looking everyone :-)

  • After updating to OS X 10.8.3, remote images fail to be displayed in Mail

After updating to OS X 10.8.3, images fail to be displayed in Mail regardless of setting in "Display remote images in HTML messages".
    Any clue ?

I'm also having this problem.  Help?

  • In mail. What does it mean to to turn off on 'Load remote images?'

In mail. What does it mean to turn off or on 'Load Remote Images?'

    From Mail's help:
    Show or hide remote images
Some messages may use HTML to include remote images that, when retrieved from the sender’s servers, reveal information about your Mac. You can protect your privacy by not loading remote images contained in messages you receive. In addition, when you don’t load remote images, messages display more quickly.
Choose Mail > Preferences, and then click Viewing.
Select or deselect the “Display remote images in HTML messages” checkbox to show or hide the images.
If you chose to hide remote images, a banner is displayed across the top of messages that contain remote images, asking whether you want to load them for viewing.
If Mail detects that a message is junk mail, HTML images aren’t displayed.

  • Mail - remote images are not retained

I don't automatically load remote images in mail. I load them manually using the Load Images button at the top of the message. When i quit mail and relaunch it, the images in that message are gone, and must be loaded again. This happens with all messages i have tried (so it's not just one funky one).
Is this the expected behavior? I would have guessed that once you approve the loading of remote images for a particular message, they would be stored locally with the message and wouldn't have to be loaded again. (i think that's how outlook and entourage function)
    thanks.

My experience is that they're cached for some amount of time, but then have to be loaded again.

  • Suddenly I see the usual blue box with question mark inside mail messages instead of pix

Suddenly I see the usual blue box with question mark inside mail messages instead of pix.
    That did not happen before.
It happened only on certain pages with Safari, like the google news feed which did not display pix.
However, this new mail problem is really disturbing.
I checked Little Snitch and port 80 is open.
    I checked java pref.
    I am at a loss.
    PLEASE HELP!

Suddenly I see the usual blue box with question mark inside mail messages instead of pix.
That indicates that your Mail preferences are setup to not display remote images in email messages. You should check Mail->Preferences->Viewing and make surre the box to 'Display remote images in HTML messages' is checked.
    I checked java pref.
Java has nothing to do with Mail, or displaying images in it or any browser.
