Inserting stop commands between clips

I have 4 video clips that I plan to use for a presentation. I need the DVD to stop at the end of each clip, so I can talk about each one.
What's the best (easiest) way to do this?

I might have something for you that makes the operation "foolproof". This involves a little tweaking and might seem very complicated, but it actually takes less than 5 minutes.
• first of all create the movie sequence in iMovie: 4 clips with black slugs between the clips. I suggest that you let each of the clips fade from/to black, so the interuption is not to sharp. Place the black slugs between the transitions - they should be 6 seconds long. Next set chapter markers according to "The Rules of Chapter Markers":
1. No chapter markers on or within 2 seconds of a transition.
2. No chapter markers within 2 seconds of the beginning or the end of the movie.
Meaning the chapter markers go in the middle of the black slugs, between chapter 1/2, 2/3, 3/4 - total of 3 markers.
• Import the movie into an iDVD project (uncheck "automatically create chapter sub-menu" in Preferences) and create a disk image.
For the tweaking you'll need myDVDedit (freeware): http://www.mydvdedit.com
1. select the disk image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
2. Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
3. Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
4. Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel. Select the item called VTS 1 (your movie).
5. Go to the panel underneath the preview window. At its side select the PGC tab. Now select the Cells tab on top of that same panel. You will find 4 items in the panel, numbered 1-4. These are your chapters.
6. Select the first one and click the little arrow to expand it. The first setting from the top is "Still Time". Select it and choose "Infinite" from the drop-down menu. This will cause the DVD to pause on the chapter marker for an infinite time.
7. Repeat the process for chapters 2, 3 and 4
8. Select File > Test with DVD Player from the menu (you'll be prompted to save). Now observe if your DVD behaves correctly: Playback should stop when a chapter marker is reached (which should be in the middle of the black slug). When you press the button for "Next Chapter", playback continues. That way you only have give the operator the signal and all he has to do is push a single button - foolproof
9. Save and close myDVDedit.
10. Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then burn with Toast choosing the "DVD from VIDEO_TS" option.
If you do not have Toast, You can create a DVD disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:

Remember to burn at slow (2x) speed to high quality DVD-R (e.g. Verbatim)

How can I make that a solid line? I do a lot of flickering in my videos and don't need that some what of a snapping effect while I edit. Please help me someone. I believe i upgraded from FCP 10.0.1 to 10.0.3 and before it never did this.

Mark an In point and an Out point (which creates a Range) and hit the forward delete key (Replace with Gap.) On a MacBook, you'll probably need to hold down the Fn key and type the Delete key (or, I think you might be able to use Shift-Delete as the same command). On an iMac/Mac Pro keyboard, it's the key just to the left of 'end' or the next key above the left arrow key.
You can use the Range tool (hold down the R key and click drag over your clip) or the Blade tool to cut at the in and out (then select the cut and replace with gap).
You can also go into Commands > Customize (command-option-K) and assign a different key to Replace with Gap.
If you need to ripple edit the ends (cut), create a small section that is Gap, and hold down the T key while you use the mouse to click drag both ends (double sided trim cursor) of the cut.
Don't worry about the dotted line blade... That just lets you know that the frames on either side of the cut are continuous, or sequential — nothing has been moved yet. Once frames from either side of the mark have been cut, it becomes a full fledged cut resembling a separate clip.

Is there a way to insert a specific gap between clips? (CS4)

I am trying to insert a 3 second gap in between about 15 clips on a timeline. I could do it manually, but it is sort of a pain. How can I insert a standard gap between clips?

I know of no semi-automatic way to do this--it's going to be some degree of manual work, whichever way you slice it. But this might help make it a little faster:
Drop all of your clips, end to end, in your sequence.
Switch to the Track Select tool; I believe the default shortcut is "A", but I might have changed that.
With the Track Select tool active, click on the second clip in your sequence to select it and all clips after it.
Using the numeric keypad on your keyboard, type in "+300" for three seconds, or whatever time duration you need, and hit the Enter key on the keypad. All of the selected clips will be moved forward in time three seconds. This will leave a gap of three seconds between the first clip and the group of following clips.
Go back to step #3 and repeat this as often as necessary to create the gaps. You should be able to mow through them pretty quickly in this fashion.

FCE freezes when moving between clips! Help?

Not with all transitions, but with some, sometimes even moving between clips from the same batch of film(!) FCE will stop playing through in the timeline, sound will jerk to a halt, and I'll then see what I call the "Colorful wheel of death" as FCE tries to deal with it and stops responding, making me Force Quit, which is a Jedi ability I now have much use in, btw... I have tried to Trash Prefs but still no good, and as I am fairly new to this software, with less than a year's experience, I need help!

First be sure you've correctly trashed your preferences. Follow the advice here: http://www.fcpbook.com/Misc1.html
Be sure everything is rendered before you playback. Be sure none of the windows (particularly Canvas) are overlapping.
Move your RT playback quality to low.
Sometimes it helps to reduce the opacity of an offending clip to 99% (via the motion tab in the viewer)before playing your sequence in the timeline. I can't explain why this works but its saved me alot.

I feel Dumb - How to stop a movie clip

Hello folks..never posted here before, so, please be gentle..
I have used Flash CS3 for a while, and just upgraded to
CS4...This is where i am either missing something, or just not
looking in the right place..
I have a basic stage...4 graphics in the clip ( converted to
graphic symbols ), each on their own layer..Each layer is using a
motion tween.
What i would like to find out how to do is that when the clip
gets to the end, to just stop. At the moment, when i upload the
.SWF file to a webpage, its running in a loop, continuous....I used
to do this in CS3 by adding a " stop() " command on the last
keyframe....How do i now get the movie to stop in CS4?? I am at a
lost, even after trawling the internet for hours today...

Getting Rid Of A Gap Between Clips In The Timeline

A gap has appeared between clips in my timeline. I can delete, re-organise the clips but the gap remains. How can I remove this please ?
(and how can it happen?)

Sometimes I get what seems to be a gap but it's actually a glitch in the way the clip has renedered for FC. The original media is always fine so I trash the rendered clips (which is a menu command) and all is well. Best of luck!

Select between clips not working

I toggled something and am not sure what I did. I have been selecting between clips all day long, and command-T to add cross dissolve. Now I don't get the hourglassed shaped cursor to indicate that it is selecting (i.e. I cant select the line between two adjacent clips. If I copy to a new timeline it works. What did I toggle?

I've edited a movie and to stop it jumping so much I want to increase the time between clips so that it fades to black between clips. Is this possible?

There is a "fade to black" transition in iMovie 09. Does that work for you?

7344 Motion board stop command causing system to drop

I have a hydrolic system(in closed loop mode) controlled by a 7344s analog output.
a value changes depending on the voltage from the 7344:
positive voltage lets water into the system
negative voltage lets water out of the system.
due to the design of the system, water has to be constintly fed into it to hold position.
Now if I call a stop command while holding position(encoder counts are not moving) the voltage drops to zero before going back to its previous value(1-1.5v) only issue is that the system drops until the voltage gets back up.
In contrast, a halt stop is immediate and abrupt. The target position is set to the position of the axis at the moment the VI is executed. On servo axes, full torque is applied to stop the motor(s) as quickly as possible. On stepper axes, the step pulses are immediately ceased.
I am using a halt stop(1) would a decelerate stop(0) be better for this application?

The behavior you are describing sounds like the response of a halt stop when a following error exists in a closed loop stepper. When a halt stop is performed on an axis the following error is cleared and the holding force on the motor is removed. This is a known issure for NI-Motion drivers prior to 7.2, and is fixed in that release. You can download the NI-Motion 7.2 driver here:

OK, I understand what you mean now! I assumed you were asking about the normal Fade In or Fade Out using the transition from the Transitions panel. But I guess you mean the Fade function specific to a Cutaway. When you double-click on a Cutaway the Inspector opens. Here you can set the Cutaway Fade duration. But as you say, it only provides for both fade in and fade out as one operation - you can't set the fades individually (it's both or nothing).
BUT, try the method outlined by Karsten Schluter above. It will give you the same effect and will enable you to fade either side of the Cutaway (or add other transitions).

How to setup shortcut to insert a command in Oracle sql shell?

Hi,
Under sqlplus shell, if i want to frequently insert a long command while
tuning queries, is there any way I can press a couple of keys to insert the
command that is pre-prepared.
For example, I need to frequently insert:
sqlplus> alter session set events '10053 trace name context forever';
anyone knows some tips to avoid typing?

As for actually pasting text at the command prompt, as I said, what you are asking has nothing to do with sqlplus itself and everything to do with the environment in which you are running it. For instance, if I use Putty to connect to my *nix boxes, it is a feature of putty to paste whatever is in the clipboard by simply right-clicking the mouse. Hi all, I am new to Oracle ADF, I have a problem with the insertion of data between 2 tables (Table A and Table B), I have the ratio 1 to *, and I need to insert data in table B (* Relationship) when insert in Table A all goes well, but when inserted in Table B, I need the primary key value in Table A () in the value field in table B that is as foreign key.
Ie
Value Table A
coda = 20 -> primary key
Table B values
1 set of values
val_1,
val_2,
val_3,
coda = 20 -> need this value is constant up to do a Commit.

I was wrong, because the relationship 1 to * between tables A and B, I was writing the groovy expression in each table, in this case in Table B (A.codSolicitude), but now I notice that within the DataControls, but specifically in the control data of Table A, there is a relationship between the board B, and I thought to insert into the related table that appears as a master/detail, and first inset in table A and then in Table B in the same page master/detail, and A.CodSolicitude value is automatically filled in Table B, and performed the Commit and everything works. !

Here, I want to make a SQL script to do an INSERT INTO Statement from TABLE “A” to “B” like this
Insert into A select * from B
But catch is that – TABLE “A” is having e 4 extra columns(Year, Month, Week, Day), those not exists in TABLE “B”, & due to this Plain INSERT INTO statement is not working.
Therefore, I want to create a dynamic INSERT INTO command with skip of 4 said columns.
You can better understand this in this way..

Playhead will no longer position itself in between clips in Final Cut Pro X timeline

I have been using Final Cut Pro X and it used to position the playhead in between clips with ease so I could drag down the audio and position it at the exact placement of playhead where I wanted it at the beginning of a new clip. However, now the playhead is not going to the beginning and end of clips, or inbetween clips and when I drag down the audio it won't go exact where the playhead is. I feel like it must have something to do with the settings, I'm not sure what. Any suggestions?

The up/down arrow keys jump to Edit Points. There should be no space between clips, so getting "inbetween" clips is not technically acurate. You're either on the first frame fo the incoming clip, or the last frame of the outgoign clip. First frame of the incoming clip is what you want.
Yes, be sure snapping is on, and use the up/down arrow keys.

STOP Command

I have a small issue like in the ECC 6.0 i am using "STOP" command.It is syntactically correct.But when i did the extended program check for this program.It is giving me error like "STOP statement is obsolete in OO context".
Which statement i should use Rather than STOP which will execute the same function like "STOP".
