Inserting Stopwatch/Timer (1/100 seconds) Into Video Clip

Hi, I would like to insert a stopwatch/timer into a video clip that will start at a specific point and will measure the elapsed time in one hundredths of a second. I have tried using the Adobe Premiere SMPTE timecode video effect but it only counts upwards in seconds. With the Premiere SMPTE timecode the numbers to the right of the seconds are the frame count numbers and not tenths and one hundredths of a second. I am not sure if I need to use an overlay video of a timer or if it can be done with an Adobe Premiere video effect or imported object? The video is 25fps PAL and is of a sporting event where fractions of a second play a role. Any help most appreciated. Rgds

Fuzzy,
Yes, that is exactly what I am looking for. Is that a custom timecode or is it a native timecode in After Effects?
I will look into installing the After Effects application if it is a native timecode?

  • Background noise removal takes about 3 seconds into each clip in timeline to kick in, so each clip has noise in the first few seconds.  How do you get this to remove noise from the very start of the clip?

  • Zooming into video clip a la Ken Burns effect

Sorry for what may be a dumb question with an obvious answer, but I've not ever seen this come up in any FCP forum.
Does the "Ken Burns" effect also work on video clips? That is, if you have a one camera interview shot or tutorial, can you "zoom" in on the person as you might with a still photo? If I had a 2nd camera or some one to shoot for me, it would be less of an issue. But, just to have some movement occasionally instead of a static talking head would be nice. I suppose if overdone, focus and quaility issues would come into play.
    Thanks,
    Dave

The explanation isn't quite right. Scaling is a logrithmic animation. An image at 100% scale fills the screen; when the image is at 50% scale it's a quarter size of the screen. This is why when you scale an image up it seems to get slower and slower as it scales up, and vice versa. Position on the other hand is a linear animation . The difference in the two is the problem.
Tom, you have great experience of this, so I'm a little wary of criticising but are you sure? I see that when scaling an image its area does not vary linearly (technically it's quadratic, not logarithmic, I think) and this will produce the illusion of changing speed which you speak of. Nevertheless, any given point in the image will move with constant speed.
On the other hand, position is not implemented linearly in FCP X. I set up a simple animation to test this, and at the start and end of the movement, the image's Y-coordinate changes by 2 pixels per frame of animation, whereas at the mid-point it changes by 6 pixels per frame: three times as fast.

  • Pasting audio into video clip?

Is there a way to paste a piece of audio into the "audio" portion of a video clip? For instance ... If someone shot a full band performance and the audio ***** but we have a good version of the audio on an audio file ... can I paste the good audio down onto the good video ... so then I'll have a file that has good audio and video ...
    thanks!

    QuickTime Player.
Open your video with the old audio track. Press cmd and J keys. In the window that opens, click on the audio track then on Delete at top left.
Open your new audio track and press cmd and A (Edit > Select All) Press cmd and C (Edit > Copy).
Bring your video track to the front. Make sure that the timeline is sitting at the first frame.
Press Option, cmd and V keys (Edit > Add to Movie).
Choose, File > Save As... Not "Save", otherwise you will overwrite the old version.

  • Fit to fill audio into video clip

I've edited a "training video" for a german company. The video has an english voiceover on how to do each step in the training module.
Now I've recorded the German voiceover.
is there an easy way to "fit to fill" the german to the appropriate video clips?
I've recorded each audio clip in sections. For example: scene 1 audio for scene 1 video.

I'd think it's best to adjust the video accordingly... If you change the speed of the playback of audio, it will change pitch, unless you use SoundTrack Pro for the job. Seems to me to be easier to adjust the video...

So when I have a photo and then a video clip with all the audio off, there is a slight sound that I cannot get rid of. How do I get rid of that sound?

iMovie does not work with MPEG muxed audio. See here for details and work around...

  • Audio stops about 25 seconds into video.

When I play my videos, the iPod freezes for about 5 seconds and then resumes without any sound.
These files used to work fine, but now they have this problem. The video works fine in iTunes, but do not work on the iPod.
These files also work fine on my brother's iPod. I called Apple and they said that they do not support the iPod for converted files. The video files I got from Apple work fine, but the converted files no longer work.
    Any ideas??

The new ipod software update has done that to
everyone. You'll need to rollback to the
    11-17-2005
or 10-12-2005 software in order to get it to go
    away.
I'm currently using the 10-12-2005 update until
    apple
comes up with a fix for their current stupidity of
    problems.
Note to apple: Test your software before releasing
    it. Mkay?
Thanks for the heads up. Now, How do I roll back to
    an older software?
I went to Program Folders and found the folder for the old software. I reverted to the old software. It fixed the problem.
    Thanks for your help.

  • The migration has exceeded the maximum switchover time of 100 second(s)

    Hello together,
i have a big problem with my migration function on our ESX 5.1 Cluster. We have two ESX-Hosts which are connected by iSCSI and using two SAN. Also there are two switches, so we have an redundancy on all parts of the cluster. The virtual machines working on the esxhost-A and have their vmdk and so on stored on the SAN-A. A replication makes different replications to the second host (esxhost-B). Now i had to increase the RAM in both of the esx host without have a downtime. My idea was to shut down esxhost-B at first (there are no virtual machines working) and increase the RAM. Than start esxhost-B and migrate all machines from esxhost-A to esxhost-B. All works fine and fast. After that i increased the RAM in esxhost-A and started it up. Now i wanted to migrate all the machines back to esxhost-A. And this doesnt work
If i try to migrate a machine back to esxhost-A there pop up an error after 65% of migration:
I cant increase the switchover time because i have to shut down the VMs and for that and thats no possibility for me.
    Can anybody help me out?
    Sincerely,
    Thomas G.
edit 21.08.2013: I added an attachement with a summary of the hostd.log. It is the time within the error occures.
edit 22.08.2013: added new attachement with the vmware.log
    Nobody can help me?

From your reply it seems NTP is not the issue. The particular VM has a high IO workload running in it ..?
To overcome the problem what you can do is that  to   modify the fsr.maxSwitchoverSeconds in the VM.
If you don't know how to do it please refer kb article : VMware KB: Using Storage vMotion to migrate a virtual machine with many disks timeout
or alternatively you can follow the steps mentioned in the link which has screenshots to do the same.

  • IMovie only imports first 10 seconds of video clip which is 14 seconds long

I have a Samsung HMX20 camcorder, and when I import a few of the clips, which are around 14 seconds long, into iMovie, I only get about 10 seconds imported into my project (so basically I don't get the end of the clip). What's going on?

It looks like your _High Definition Samsung SC-HMX20_ is NOT listed as supported by iMovie '09.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3290#2
The only camera listed is the _Standard Definition Samsung SC-MX20_
There is also an article about it:

  • How to retrieve media start time stamp on video clips

Premiere Pro CS4 loses the time stamps on all my video clips in the project.  Is there a way to retrieve that data.
This usually happens after a crash or freeze up and one has to revert to an auto-saved ppj file.

    Thanks for replying.
Timestamp only means time information for media start.
The time information was there for media start on all the clips as they
were captured but when I had to restart the project and the clips were
imported into a different project they disappeared.

  • How to convert jpeg images into video file of any ext using JMF

I want to convert the Jpeg files into video clip with the help of JMF
    any one can help me?
Plz reply me at [email protected]
    or [email protected]

I'm not sure of his/her reasoning behind this, but I have yet to find a way to record video with mmapi on j2me. So with that restriction, I can see how one could make it so that it just records a lot of jpegs, and then makes it a movie.
I would be interested finding a workaround for this too. Either if someone would explain how to record video with mmapi or how to make recorded images into a video. Thanks!

  • Premiere Pro CS6 - audio plugins not engaging until roughly 1 second into clip

This is a strange issue I've been having with Premiere CS6, running on a Mac Pro.  Anytime I add effects to audio, whether it is denoiser, highpass, eq, etc, the effect doesn't engage until roughly 1 second into the clip.
It doesn't matter if I render it or export it.  The problem still occurs.  In the past my solution has been to drag the audio out past the 1 second threshold, apply the effect, export just the audio, bring it back into premiere, re-align the new audio and export.  What a pain!
Definitely a problem I've never had with Avid or Final Cut!  Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this problem?!

It's a long-standing bug with certain audio effects.  Please do let Adobe know you want it fixed.

In the meantime, you should do that kind of work in Audition instead.

  • Keynote 09 file containing video clips is Huge!

I'm a brand new user and the app looks like a real PowerPoint killer! Elegant graphics and capabilities. One key reason I bought it was to integrate looping video backgrounds on slides. I have tested this and the results have been hit and miss. For the most part it does everything I hoped it would and what PowerPoint (on Windows) absolutely CANNOT do...layer text and moving graphics on top of video. My first test file runs okay about 75% of the time. But sometimes the video clips freak out, looking like multi-colored pixel vomit! If I click around and select different slides it seems to go away. But I can't be confident in using this at a sales presentation for my company for fear it would crap out in the middle of a presentation.
That said, here's my first question: Is there a defacto-standard QuickTime format or codec that is more stable than others? I tried an MP4 QT movie as an alternative and all I got was a solid green box - no video.
Here's my second question: Why is my 3-slide file 427MB?! In Preferences I unchecked: "copy audio and movies into document." I deleted the clips, quit Keynote, restarted and re-inserted the clips and the file is still 427MB. The movies inside the file are 73MB, 103MB and 245MB...all pretty sizeable files. I'm going to try reducing the QuickTime movies using Compressor, but I wanted to ask here to see if anyone has the same issues.
    Thanks.

All depends on the size and codec of your .movs. I prefer h.264 as it uses the GPU to decode (so I am told) and looks superior to me and my film buddies over other codecs. Few Macs can playback uncompressed HDVideo, you really need a dedicated card like Blackmagic cards or the like.
Does not embed videos if you have de-selected relevant option in my experience. Try making a new file, setting save options (de-select audio&video files), save file. Drag slides across from old file and save. Should be good now. If still a problem, set option to save as a package. The right-mouse-button click on file in finder an "Show contents" that way you can see exactly what files have been embedded.
To tell you something you already know: the sum of 73MB, 103MB and 245MB is 421MB
Also, I have made HD res animations that play infinitely (except for Keynote QT time limit but mine can spool across slides) and never repeat in the same way (multiple variable loops) that are 20kB-100kB in size . That's one way around the size issue but only works for animations not recorded camera video.

  • Echo audio effect on video clips

I'm trying to add an echo effect on the audio that lasts longer that the video clip.  For example, If a person says "moment in time" at the clip ends, how can I extend the last word like "time" to echo past the video clip?  I understand how to add effects to audio but once the video clip in finished, so is the audio.  I'd like to extend the echo past the video clip.
I hope I'm explaining this properly.  Is this a Soundtrack Pro question?

Here is one way to do it:
Edit a couple of seconds of Slug after the end of the video/audio clip that you want to add echo to. You can trim this off later, after you get your effect set.
Next, select both the clip you want to add echo to and the Slug you added right after it so that both are highlighted (selected). Now type Option + C to Nest the two clips into a single unit.
Now you can apply your effect to the Nest you made and have space to have the audio echo. If you need to make adjustments to contents of the nest, just double click on it.
