Inserting text in a photo

I used to know how to put text into a photo. I think it used preview. I got an answer that said to use preview, then the annotate choice under tools, but all the sub choices under annotate are grayed out. I have talked to apple support and they want me to reload Preview, but when I checked my kids (identical) machine, his behaves the same way. Not only do I want to do the captions inside the pictures, but now i want to know why those submenu choices are grayed out!

Uh, actually, I need to clarify. I don't want to annotate, which I think I understand now to be putting a little note icon on the picture with verbiage outside. I used to be able to actually pick font and color and type in little notes ON THE PICTURE. I still think it is with Preview, and maybe the jpegs had to be changed to pdfs. I have discovered that when a picture is opened in preview as a pdf, the annotate button CAN be used - oval, rectangle, etc. so I am getting closer. But I don't want just a little notepad icon on the picture - I want to pick font and color and put a little title in it. Anyone?

  • Entering text in a photo in Elements 11

WhenI try to insert text in a photo, in PS Elements 11, I get a small book icon, but cannot go further . Whaat am I doing wrong?

    Barbara B:
Thank you for responding. Unfortunately, I cannot do a screen grab of the icon because if I try anything it disappears, I realize that it is always easier to work with something if you have a visual, but I'll have to try without it. I am probably doing, or not doing something incredibly simple. However, I have searched all manner of online help, both text and video without result.
Let me explain what I am doing. I have constructed a cover for my book, which will be put into e-book format and have reached the point where I need to put in the title and author. Let me explain my actions, and perhaps this will help.
I have the image open in SEE 111 and I click on the horizontal type tool. Then, when I place the cursor on the image I get a very small rendition of what looks like an open book, drawn in small dots. This small image persists as I move it both on the image and outside.
If I left click I get on the image a small square point over the box with the green check and the cancel sign, A the same time I get a text layer in the layer panel.Clicking the green check mark removes the check mark box, the white square dot and the text layer in the layers panel.
This has been frustrating me to the point where I have considered reinstalling the program, but I have restrained myself in the belief that the problem lies with me.
I hope that you can make sense of this.
    Sincerely,
    John

  • Insert text on Photos

I saw a picture company's slideshow with text on the photos. How can I do this?
    -- mitos

    Hi Mitos,
You can try a free third party application called ImageWell, which has already been mentioned here.
Download Imagewell and double click to open it.
    http://www.xtralean.com/IW.html
Drag the photo from an open iPhoto library window right into the well of Imagewell
    Click on the "edit" button
Click on the "add text button" which is the "Aa"
click on the photo where you want to add the text
click on the little box on the right to set the color
click on the "f" button to choose the font and the size making sure your text is highlighted so it is affected when you change the font and size.
    Click "done"
when you are happy with it, drag it out of Imagewell's window to the desktop
That's it, you can even change the name of the photo and the size there too, before you drag it out of the window. Actually there is a lot of other fun stuff you can do with it like add balloon text and masks.
Drag the photo back into iPhoto to import it again

  • Adding Text to a photo...Need help

I'm new to Adobe Photoshop Elements 7. I'm following the instructions for adding text to a photo, but I can't see what I'm typing. I can see the cursur, but nothing else. I can see the text in the Layer, but not on the photo. Please help.

Check the font size in the options bar. If it's really small you won't see it.
Look in your layer's palette and insure your text is in a layer located above the photo in the stack.
You might also check your image's resolution in the Image Size dialog. I've seen a couple of posts where someone changes the resolution to 1 with resample turned off...then can't see the text because it's too small even when they have large numbers inserted in the font size box.

  • How to add a custom text to a photo in develop screen

Hi all, i would to know if it is possible to add some text to a photo in lightroom in the develop screen, so i can export it with my custom text.
I've already tryed in slideshow or print view, but when i export the photo my custom text is missing.
    Thanks for the help.
    Mik.

    Mik,
With LRMogrify I can vary the text font, color (including black and white!), transparency and placement. As to this being "not easily managed"--well I guess that's a matter of opinion (and depends upon individual requirements). To be sure, a graphical interface for text insertion (within LR Develop module) would be more convenient, though I'm sure many users would place such a feature fairly far down on a list of "nice to have" items.  Although it's absence might well qualify as a "deficiency", calling it "a flaw" seems excessive (IMHO).

  • Adding text to a photo stored in iPhoto

iPhoto allows you to name the photo, but I want the text to print ON the photograph. Is that possible? I have a Canon Pixma printer. The software does provide a layout choice that allows you to insert text that appears when printed. However, the template is only for a plain 4x6.... the text disappears if you choose a 'printed mat' around the photo. SO, to override this, I want to insert the text on the original photo within iPhoto. Is this possible??

That requires a separate photo editor, such as Photoshop Elements or the free program GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/). I'm guessing that GIMP will do that, but I have no experience with it.

How can I fix the text in my photo book that reads"your default text had not been edited. Printed books will not include this text?"

You will get this warning, if your book includes textboxes that still include the default text, like "Insert Title". You need to find these boxes and add your own text.  Look for boxes like this:
Make a PDF-preview of your book and look, where the preview differs from what you are seeing in iPhoto.

  • Inserting text in iphoto

As a windows switcher, I'm just starting to use the ilife suite. I made a slideshow using iphoto and inserted text. The problem is that the text is in a very small font and in the upper left hand corner of the slide. I can't figure out how to move the text to the bottom of the screen, increase the size and change the color to yellow. Is this possible in iphoto? Other than this, I am thrilled to have a new apple computer.

    Don,
If you had an album that you made into a slideshow, find the album in the photo media browser in iMovie and drag the photos into the timeline.
Now highlight each image and click on the title tab. Find the right title that is static and places the title where you want. I am not sure if there are any included titles that fit your need, but there are plenty of plugins that will have the title the way you want.
The only problem is, iPhoto titles are not autofilled in the title field so you will have to input the text. It will take longer I know.
After you add the titles, then you can add the Ken Burns, then transitions.
You will really have to experiment to get it the way you want.
    good luck!

  • How can I insert text on an image via IPhoto?

I am still learning about my IMac and primary use for it was mainly for my photo images. At the moment attempting to build a new website via IWeb and as part of the site will be numerous images. However, when making up the albums, I wanted to have text on my images but alas on the face of it I cannot see how this is possible as part of the existing IPhoto software - could any member advise how it can be done?
My alternative at the moment is to use Adobe Photoshop on my Windows based Laptop, insert text on the image, save and then upload to my IMac into my Album - mmmm a bit long winded to say the least! Regardless, thanks in advance.

You can learn to do this with the Preview app already on your Mac.
Open Preview. Make sure that the Annotate button appears in the Toolbar. If the button is not already there, select Customize Toolbar from Preview's View menu. Drag the Annotate button (the pencil) to your your preferred location on the Toolbar.
Open a photo in Preview, press the Annotate button and use the Annotate tools to add your text. You will find instructions on annotating files and documents in Preview Help in the Help menu.

  • Insert text using Lightroom 5

How to insert text using Lightroom 5 (not in slide mode or using watermark)?

If you mean superimposing text on your photo, you can't do that in Lightroom. There is no "insert text" feature (other than watermark or slides). There is a plug-in called Mogrify that allows you to superimpose text on your photos during export.

  • **Adding different text to each photo before making a slide show.

And the top of the day to you,
Is there a way to add different text to each photo before making a slide show? I know you can do this in PS4 but it is not very easy. Any ideas?
    Al

Use the Caption metadata to add slide text then click the ABC icon in the slideshow module, followed by clicking the up/down icon, then choose Edit. Insert the Caption option from the IPTC Data box.

  • In the new Keynote how does one find the Wrap Inspector to wrap text around a photo??? Thanks

In the new keynote, the help section refers to the Wrap Inspector.  How does one find that or how does one wrap text around a photo??   Thanks

You can also use the shape tool to draw a shape roughly following the outline of the graphic you want to wrap text around, change the fill and stroke to "none", then paste your text within the shape. It's a few more steps, but it opens you up to many creative alternative layouts.

  • Why is iMessage taking my incoming emails and then not making them available for my PC to get?  Why can I not send a text msg with photos when iMessage is turned off (but MMS is still on).

    Apple is great!
Why is iMessage taking my incoming emails and then not making them available for my PC to get?  Why can I not send a text msg with photos when iMessage is turned off (but MMS is still on).
I compose an iMessage with the destination as my email address and I attach 2 photos I want on my PC.  I send them several times from my iPhone 5C but they never arrive. I look at my ipad later and realize that it's iMessage app is getting ( and swallowing) these emails. I then turn the ipad off.  Still can't get the photos through because iphone is now getting them on it's iMessage.  I turn off the iMessage feature and try to send photos from text msging.  Phone tells me it can't send photos unless iMessage it turned on.  What happened to regular MMS text messaging?  I go and try to send photos as an email attachment and see that there is no option to attach from the stupid email program.  I look up online to learn about the brave new world of apple attachments and send them.
Why is iMessage taking my incoming emails and then not making them available for my PC to get?
The email program on my iphone is not configured to remove messages from the server.
If iMessage is turned off I don't have the issue.
Why can I not send a text msg with photos when iMessage is turned off (but MMS is still on).

Did not work. I've selected iMessage to ON and left it. After a few hours I recieved a message "activation unsuccessful. Turn on iMessage to try again". This has been going on for the past 3 days.

  • How do I add text to a photo when making a calendar from iPhoto?  I see the text box for the dates but not for the actual photo...thanks.

I can't find a way to add text to a photo once it's been put into the top pane of the calendar month...is there a way to do this since I'd like to add a descriptor to the photos?  I see the text box when you click on the calendar date, but don't find one for the photo pane.  Thanks for any assistance.

Right - you can not add text to photos with iPhoto - you must use an external editor
