Inserting widget phatfusion imagemenu

I'm pretty new to dreamweaver but have inserted a few simple widgets on my webpage with no problems.
I am now trying to insert "phatfusions imagemenu" http://www.phatfusion.net/
I would like to have my own pictures with menu titles but I can't even get the images that the widget comes with to appear.  I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.  I have uploaded the entire file with the images, css files, ect but still it is not working.
Can anyone think of what I may be doing wrong.  I have inserted widgets in the past but can't seem to get this one to work which is too bad because I think it looks great.
Thanks for your help!

Hi there,
Thank you both for your speedy responses!  I made sure everything is validated, but I still get this strange white border in Safari as if it wants to put scroll bars on the right side and bottom of the page.  FF goes ahead and puts scroll bars in.  The other strange thing is that when I try to put pictures (totally unconnected with the widget) on the page the widget disappears.  Any help this time will also be greatly appreciated!  Thank you so much!
Cheers,
A.B.

  • Problem with inserting widgets

When I try to insert widgets I sometimes get the message (dialogue box) "Not a valid widget". Actually this happens most of the times.
Can someone please tell me what is wrong?
    Kindly,

    Hi there
It's usually best to insert widgets from the Widgets panel. Window > Widget
If you click Insert > Widget you get a file browsing dialog. This dialog allows you to point at ANY SWF file. Not all SWF files are widgets. So I'm thinking you used this method and are pointing at perhaps SWF animations and expecting them to be widgets. Hence the message.

  • Insert widget in webpage div

I started using Adobe Widget Browser two days ago. I installed the program and browsed the widgets/applications. I downloaded one called Spry Menu Bar 2.0
opened it and used it to edit a menu bar. i saved it. I wasn't sure how to get it into Dreamweaver. I am using Dreamweaver CS4.
Scott gave me the following directions which worked beautifully. However please read on after his instructions for my next question. I know I might seem a bit dull, but truth is I'm very new to the whole Adobe package and feel lost at times.
CS5 added the ability to insert Widgets from the Widget Browser so you need CS5 to get that functionality.  If you don't have CS5 yet you can still use Widget Browser to insert the Widgets in a new page in your site.  Just add the widget you want to "My Widgets" then click the "Save Widget Files" button after adding the widgets  to "My Widgets" then give it a name of an html file to create in your  site.  The Widget Browser will create a sample html file with the links  to any external javascript and css files which it will save relative to  the html file.

Thank you so much, that is helpful. I actually own the CS5 upgrade but haven't installed it yet because the learning curve is so steep for me, I thought it might be better to learn CS4 first and then move to CS5.
So after saving the html widget file to my website, how do I actually install it in an existing page?
for example I made a verticle menu widget with fly out sub-menu that I want to use for navigation. I want to install that menu in a div I have defined as "nav_container". How do I insert the menu into my container?
    Thanks in advance

Now might be a good time to upgrade to CS5, especially since you have it!  With CS5 it will be easy to insert the Widget into your navigation div. Just open your page position your insertion point in your nav_container <div> and select Insert, Widget.
If you really don't want to upgrade your alternative is to copy and paste the code from the test page.  But you will need to make sure that all of the code blocks, Javscript, CSS, and the links to the external .js and .css file in the head are inserted in the new document and that the url's are mapped correctly. If you save the HTML Widget page at the same location as your existing html page the files will all be saved relative to that file, but using CS5 will be easier.

  • Cannot insert Widget in DW CS5

I have downloaded and customized several Widgets from the Widget Browser.  When I open a page within my site, I go to Insert ->
Widget and nothing happens.  Also, when I go to the "Insert" group, select "Common" and click Widget, still nothing.  Does anyone have any thoughts on this problem?  On the inset menu, there is no option to expand the menu item.  Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Tim

David, thank you for the reply, however, the problem I am having is not with customizing a "Spry Menu Bar.  I have customized and saved various widgets to my presets, but cannot insert them the way that I believe it was intended to work.  You see, everything that I have read, and all videos I have watched show people clicking on a blank area on their webpage, and clicking on Insert -> Widget.  It is at that pont that they are prompted as to which widget they intend to insert.  As you will see on the attached image, it says you can insert the widget by performing the task as I mentioned or by going to the Browser Lab side dock, and clicking on "Common" and then on Widget.  Saving the presets to seperate files is quite a but different than what I am trying to do, and how it is described, or as seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5P91PPCw2Bs.  Please see attached, and again, thanks for your help!

  • Can't insert widget as document head read only

When I try to insert my LIghtbox Gallery widget into my web page in CS5.5 I get the message
"This widget requires code that must be inserted into the head of the doucment. Insertion cannot happen as the head of this document is read only"
How do i turn read only off? Or is there any other way to insert it?
    Many Thanks

    Hello Jenny,
if I understand you correctly, you should only call the widget you need and click "code wiew"
From there you have to copy the entire source code into an empty DW file. So you can see how that works.
You can add only the needed code into your file or you can do it all in reverse, by adding your website contents into the widget source code.

  • How can I insert a widget slideshow into a template-based page in Dreamweaver

HI, I Have a question that has been nagging me for the last three hours.
I have been trying to insert a slideshow into a template based document using the insert widget function in Dreamweaver CS 5.5.  The problem is that I contine to get the error that
"This widget requires code that must be inserted into the head of the current document.  Insertion cannot happen because the head of this document is read only."
I have tried to edit the template file in order to make the head tag into an editable region.  I have tried to resolve the problem by eliminating the
    <!-- #BeginEditable "doctitle" --> function call and instead using the <!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="head" -->
function, but all that does is grey out all the code on the page following the this function call.  The other side effect of using this method is that the child documents do not even have a header anymore.
I do not know if this is just a lack of understanding how this works, or if there is a bug in Dreamweaver.
Any help in this subject wold be appreciated.
The original HTML for the template in question is below.

  • Widget insertion not working DW CS5 Mac

I've got a template open and am trying to insert the JBuilder Accordian widget.  I've done all the necessary processes to download the widget from Adobe and put it into my "My Widgets" in the browser.  I click on Insert / Widget and get nothing, no dialog asking for which widget to insert.  This also fails from the Insert panel and clicking on the Widget icon.
Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Maybe it would help if I re-asked the question in different terms:
    a) Does DW5 on MacOS monitor the user interface for a "cancel current operation" input?  If so, what is it?
    b) Is there any alternative to "Force Quit" to cancel a "long" operation?
Note 1: Monitoring the UI is problematic because it slows down the application;  how much depends on how often.  Depending on the  app's internal architecture, it may simply not be possible to stop certain operations cleanly.  Both these would be reasonable motivations to omit a UI cancel function.
Note 2:  I think MacOS "Force Quit" sends a Unix "kill" signal (SIGKILL) which stops a running process in its tracks.  The process disappears,  and unsaved changes are lost.   I think Unix defines milder signals, signifying something like, "please stop what you are doing", but I have no idea if these are effective in the case of DW.

I assume so, you are the only one that can be certain. I supplied a link to the supplier as in Comments Inserter Widget for Facebook™ so that you can verify same.
I bought it through Adobe as a Dreamweaver add-on and so I would expect there to be some means of delivery offered so that I can integrate it with Dreamweaver.

  • Image gallery widget problems

First of all, I'm pretty new to coding and using CS4 on my Mac. I'm trying to create a simple lightbox gallery. I'm using the Adobe Widget Browser and downloaded Lightbox Gallery Widget. I had to copy/paste all of the coding because for some reason dragging/dropping didn’t work. All of my thumbnails look good, but when I view in Live mode or in a browser, the large image does not appear. All of my images are in the correct folder and linked, but I'm thinking there's a problem with the 'next', 'prev', etc images.  I’m sure it’s something simple I’m missing, but I’m at my wits end. I’ve used the Markup Validation Service and it checks out ok. Here is my site:

I’d appreciate any assistance! Thank you!

Having a similar issue - I had taken some iphoto galleries off my mobile me gallery page but they were still linked to pages published in iWeb.
When I realized this I opened iWeb and took the gallery widgets out.
Then went into iPhoto and republished the galleries to mobile me, then back to iWeb and they still showed blank (like the two didn't know about eachother - name of the gallery is still showing in iWeb, but no longer displays photos).
Next try - delete the widget from iWeb page, delete the mobile me published gallery from iPhoto, setup a new (different name and all) published gallery in iPhoto - works, gallery page in mobile me works, back to iWeb and insert widget menu and the old galleries are still listed, no new galleries are showing up in iWeb now - great.
So, trying the tricks of shutting down iPhoto, iWeb, logging out of mobile me account in system preferences as well as via safari on me.com - then log back into every thing and start up iWeb again - still no new iPhoto published mobile me galleries showing in the iWeb insert-widget-mobile me menu.
Any help? Looking for a refresh in iWeb!?

  • Web Gallery widget problems

I'm having some issues with the mobileme web gallery widgets in iWeb. I first noticed when one of the widgets would not change photos as you roll over it, even though I had multiple photos in the gallery. I unpublished the gallery and re-published using a different name. The next time I started iweb it didn't find any of my mobile me galleries. Almost every other time I get this message when working in iWeb. If it does find my galleries, It doesn't find the new one, but it still lists the old gallery that I have unpublished. I've tried repairing permissions, rebooting. I've seen that a few people had this problem and it went away. Mine hasn't though. Any ideas?

  • Widget/Button image

    Hello,
I have a problem with Button Widget. I decided to insert a rollover slidelet and on this slidelet I would like to have a button. The only way to insert button is to insert Widget and than select a button. I did it and now I would like to change the layout/view/image whatever u name it. Instead of it I have sth like this:
I don't fully understand what does published folder mean.
    I hope u understad all

    Hello,
If you do not like the images already provided with the Button widget, you can choose your image. But when publishing the CP-file to SWF (with its companion files HTML and JS) you will have to add the button image file to the same folder and upload all files in the folder to the LMS. The path to this button is a relative path.

  • Widget creation: html5 & swf

I'm trying to figure out how to create custom Captivate 6 widgets that will publish to html5 and swf.  I figured I'd start by pulling apart the A3C widget that's in the Captivate 6 gallery.  I rename the file to A3C.zip.  Unzip it using my Mac's archive utility then zip it back up again.  Rename the file back to A3C.wdgt and try to import it to Captivate.  I then get the error "The description.xml file is missing from the widget".  When I check the folder that was zipped up, the file is definitely there.  This seems to have something to do with the format for the zip file.  What zip utility should we be using to create these widgets?
If anyone can provide a pointer to documentation for creating custom widgets in html5 & swf beyond that provided in Captivate Help, I'd appreciate it!

I've been successful so far with two approaches.  Where an Adobe-supplied widget almost works (everyone I've tried has bugs and/or missing critical functionality for html5 output), I just edit it as needed. The tricky part is that Captivate tries very hard to overwrite any changes you make in the Gallery with versions that it may be pulling off the web.  In fact, I've caught it replacing its own widgets with buggy old versions whenever you load your project.
What I do is give my updated widget a new name and then use Insert Widget, rather than loading it from the Interactions window.  The only annoying problem left is that I can't figure out how to get Captivate to update my widget in place.  When I make changes, I'm forced to delete all uses of the old version and freshly insert the new version, restoring by hand all variables changed from the defaults.
My other approach, where I'm creating something entirely new, is to insert it as a web object.  Then I've used variables and events for communication between Captivate and my widget, which can lead to timing problems if you're not careful.  Also, I the assets for this "widget" don't get automatically moved to the right places when you publish the project as they do for real widgets, but there are workarounds.
By the way, if your code is going to be html5-only, you can shortcut the Common Javascript calls and just access your Captivate variable directly (in the Captivate top window).
