Inserting WMA file to a slide show

I am new to PSE 4.0. I have been trying to import a .wma file into a slide show with no luck. The file is one I purchased online and downloaded, so I don't know if it could be a license issue. I have loaded it into the organizer, I cannot listen to it in the organizer, nor when I try to insert it into the slideshow does it ever show up. I have tried to convert to a mp3 file but I can't do that either. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Michele,
This is what MSN sent to me as i was having the same problem. It's a bit tedious, but it works:

please be informed that songs from MSN Music Downloads are license protected. This means that you cannot simply copy or transfer it to any program or device because the license will not go through with it. Since Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 does not support protected .wma files, I recommend that you burn the music to a CD and then convert the files to supported format such as MP3 by ripping them in that format using Windows Media Player.

From CD Audio format, you may need to rip it back to your Windows Media Player 10 in .mp3 file format. Once you have successfully ripped it back to your WMP, you may use that copy to insert or copy to another device because it will no longer require any license. Please note that our usage policy restricts you from making copies of music other than for personal use.

To burn music:

1. In Windows Media Player:

a. Click âLibraryâ
b. In the âListâ pane (right pane), click <List Name> âListâ, and then âBurn Listâ.

NOTE: If you need to clear the list before beginning, click âBurn Listâ, and then âClear Listâ.

2. Drag a folder from the âContentsâ pane or songs from the âDetailsâ pane to the âListâ pane to create a list of songs to burn.
3. In the burn list, drag songs up or down to arrange them in the order you want them to appear on the CD.
4. Insert a blank CD-R or CD-RW disc in the CD drive.
5. In the âListâ pane, verify that the songs you have selected to burn will all fit on the disc. If necessary, remove songs from the list by right-clicking a song and then clicking âRemove from Listâ.

NOTE: It is possible that a song will not fit even if the total time exactly matches the CD length, because the Player inserts two seconds between songs when burning.

6. Click the 'Start Burn' arrow and verify that Audio CD is selected.
7. Click 'Start Burn'. As the CD is burned, you can check its progress in the burn list. Burning a CD will take some time.

NOTES: It is recommended that you do not try to perform any other actions while burning a CD. For example, playback may be affected if you try to play a music CD while burning a CD.

You cannot burn additional files to a CD after burning is completed. If you are using a CD-RW, you can erase the entire CD before using the Player to burn files to the CD again.

To Rip Music:

The term 'rip' means to copy music from a CD. When you rip a CD, you can either copy the entire CD or just selected tracks, and these are created as files on your computer. Ripping a CD doesn't damage the CD. In fact, ripping helps preserve your CDs, because after they've been ripped, you can store them in a safe location.

Once you have ripped a CD, you no longer need to use the CD when you listen to that music on your computer. Simply start the Player, find the music in your library, and play it. You can also mix that music with other music in a playlist to extend your listening possibilities.

A. Configure WMP settings.

1. Launch Windows Media Player (Click 'Start' then 'Run'. In the 'Open' field, type: wmplayer.exe).
2. Press 'Alt', 'T' and the letter 'O' keys simultaneously to load the media player Tools Options.
3. Go to 'Rip Music' tab.
4. Choose any of the following at the 'Format' drop down (under 'Rip settings'). You can also adjust rip quality by dragging the 'Audio quality' slider.

- Windows Media Audio (variable bit rate), which can reduce the file size but may take longer to rip.
- Windows Media Audio Lossless, which provides the best audio quality but increases the file size.
- MP3 format, new in Windows Media Player 10, which provides more flexibility when choosing a format.

5. Click 'OK' when finished.

B. Rip music

1. Start Windows Media Player.
2. Insert an audio CD into the CD drive, and then click 'Rip'.
3. All songs are selected to be ripped if you have not previously ripped them.
4. If there are any songs that you do not want to rip, clear the check box next to each. You can use the check box at the top of the list to select or clear all check boxes.
5. Click 'Rip Music'.
6. The first time you rip music, you are prompted to choose the format for the files being created. Click one of the following options:

a. Keep my current format settings.

Note: This option keeps your current file format and audio quality level settings and immediately starts ripping the songs you selected to your computer. By default, the Player uses the Windows Media Audio format, which optimizes the balance between file size and sound quality.

b. Change my current format settings.

Note: Select this option if you want to change the format, bit rate, storage folder, or other options.

7. After you click an option, click âOKâ. (To change the format or audio quality settings later, on the âToolsâ menu, click âOptionsâ, and then click the âRip Musicâ tab.)
8. After the songs have been ripped, you can find and play them in your library.

  • Can you make an exe file for a slide show using PS Elements?

Although I use ProShow Gold for slide shows, I need information on other programs that can provide an option for an exe format. I am not too technical so I can't tell from my Elements and couldn't find anything here. I will be running a competition in which exe files are needed so they can be played on any computer. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

I hope your competition goes well. I suggest though that you thoroughly scan each submitted file for virus and malware on an isolated machine first. While not suggesting your competitors would deliberately infect their entry but if their own machines were unknowingly infected by (say) a trojan that could potentially infect the executables they create for your competition.
If it was me I'd request files in a standard format (e.g. WMV) that is readable by just about any media playing software such as Windows Media Player.

  • Where can I READ how to combine an audio file with a slide show

I need to make a dias show running with some speech/audio file beneath - so that I get an avi file or whatever to present on the internet.
But no matter where I turn, I find video after video - and I am not so stupid, that I cannot read a text.
So can someone tell me where I can find a TEXT manual, describing how I do that?
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
Are you in Premiere Elements Editor? I'm seeing in PSE Organizer and can't see that "Drop files here" text anywhere.
This is how Slideshow dialog looks in PSE11 Organizer. You can rearrange the images by clicking on "Quick reorder"button or by dragging thumbnails on the thumbnail strip you see at the bottom.
Let me know if you are facing any issues with this dialog
    Thanks

  • SharePoint 2010 and PowerPoint 2010: Open PPTX File in Edit Mode and Open PPSX in in Slide Show Mode

I have the following issue while opening PowerPoint PPTX file and PPSX from the Document ID link provided by SharePoint 2010.
    Issue
Initially when I opened PPTX file from the DOC ID link from SharePoint 2010, it is opening up in Slide Show mode which is not how we want it to be.
For PPSX, it is opening in Slide Show mode which is what we wanted.
Thus, I did some research online and found this article at support.microsoft.com/kb/q299824 which requires some modification to the Registry of the client machine.
I did the change as follows
    Open Registry
    Look for “Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PowerPoint.Show.12”
    Set BrowserFlags value to a
After the change, PPTX is opening in Edit Mode in PowerPoint which is correct but PPSX is also opening in Edit Mode in PowerPoint which is not correct
This issue only occurs if I open the document from the Doc ID link in SharePoint. If the documents are downloaded, it will not have this issue.
    Questions
Can I set PPTX to open in Edit Mode and PPSX to open in Browser Mode?
Is this fixed as in if I change the registry setting it will affect both file types?
Is there other ways I can achieve opening PPTX in Edit and PPSX in Browser Mode?
    [Environment]
My Client machine is running on I.E 9 and Office 2010.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
To make the PPTX file open in Edit mode and PPSX file open in Slide Show mode, I recommend to edit the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PowerPoint.Show.12 to 8.
I tested the scenario in my environment with changing the key value to 8, after that PPTX file opened in Edit mode and PPSX file opened in Slide Show mode.
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • Slide Show File Names

    To All,
Is it neccessary to have individual file names for all the files in all the slide shows?
I created a DVD with several slide shows that contian many images from my digital camera. Some of the files have the same name (ie:, DCS_004). All the slide shows stayed together while I put the presentation together. But now, when I reopen the iDVD file, I'm asked to find all the files for each slide show (which I have in individual folders). I choose the first slide for each show, the others followed automatically. But the problem is that the slide shows are all mixed up. Images (with the same name) from different shows (folders) are appearing in different slide shows. Should iDVD automatically find the images rather than me having to find each slide show???
    Thanks in Advance,
    Craig

You can do it in Encore 2.0.
Select all the slides in the slideshow, then go to Properties and turn on subtitles with the Name property checked. The name of the slide will now appear as a subtitle over the slide (make sure to enable subtitles when you link to the slideshow).

  • What Software/Techniques Needed to Write Slide Show to DVD?

Created my first slide show of +/- 1,200 slides in PSE 4.0 slideshow. No problem there. I want to burn this slideshow to a DVD that I can use in a laptop or other computer to view the slideshow on other computers with DVD drives, not necessarily to view on a TV. PSE 4.0 Help file says: Select "File"; then "Output Slide Show"; then "Burn to disc"; then "Select DVD Option." I'm ok to step "Burn to disc," but then there is no "Select DVD Option." Only options at this point are to select video format (NTSC or PAL), and Output Speed. "Burn VCD on drive (Phillips DVD+RW-D28)" is pre-printed in the dialog box and cannot be changed. Inserted a DVD+RW in drive, clicked "OK," and this disk was immediately ejected with a pop-up box reading "Incompatible media. Please insert a blank CD-R or a CD-RW disk to burn the VCD". (1,200 slides will not fit on VCD.) One user suggestion to reboot the computer to see a DVD option on screen did not help. My OS System is Windows XP. Two programs installed on my computer with the DVD burner, that I believe are DVD authoring programs: MyDVD v.3.5, and PowerDVD v.4.0. Must I have Photoshop Premiere Elements 2.0, or some additional software (recommendation?) to create a "portable" slideshow to view on other computers?
    Would appreciate any help!

    >Must I have Photoshop Premiere Elements 2.0, or some additional software (recommendation?) to create a "portable" slideshow to view on other computers?
Glad that you added the fact that you want to play the DVD on other computers - it does make a difference. As the prior post indicated, you really do need Premeire Elements or Nero Vision Express or Sonic MyDVD to make the DVD to view on a TV DVD player.
However, there is something else that might work if all people who will watch this slide show have a DVD player on their PC/laptop and play it using Windows Meida Player 10. So I suggest that you try it on your PC.
    - In the slide show Editor of PSE 4, do your Output command to a WMV file on your hard drive.
    - Then use whatever DVD software came with DVD burner to burn this WMV file to a DVD as a data file (NOT as a video DVD). Choose an output resolution that will be good for the monitors of the recipients.
    - Next try to play this DVD on your system using Windows Media Player 10 (I don't know if earlier versions will play). I doubt that the software on your PC that plays commercial DVDs will play the WMV file; that is why I directed you to use Windows Media Player.
If you plan to distribute this to the general public, I think you will have problems with the recipients not having the necessary hardware or not understanding that they can't use their normal DVD player software. However if you are sending to a limited set of relatives and friends, it might work. If anyone has an Apple computer, I think there is software that will play a WMV file on Apple software, but it seems that many people may not have it.
    In closing I will say
    - be sure to save your slide show as a project so you can do multiple experiements (you may have already done this)
    - it would be much more flexible as to how it is played if you did make a video DVD. However, you actually have a choice of using higher resolutions if you only save as a WMV file for play on a computer.

  • Slide show on a CD

I am in the process of scanning approx 500 slides from my days in the USAF. What I would like to do is move the scanned jpegs into iPhoto 5 after I have "improved" them using Elements.
Is it possible to make a slide show of just these jpegs in iPhoto, then save it to a CD (as a slide show) and finally remove the jpegs from the iPhoto library?
My hope is that I could just insert the CD and the slide show would begin.
    Dave

You can create the slideshow in iPhoto and Share it as a Quicktime, full sized full quality movie. As long as it's small enough to burn to a CD you can burn the movie file to the disk. Or a DVD disk if it's too large. Then any computer, Mac or PC, that has Quicktime installed (it's free for PCs from Apple's site) could play the movie/slideshow.
For really sharp slideshows, I'd use iDVD, import the stills into it and assemble the slideshow within iDVD. You'll get better image quality that way and you'll be able to play the slideshow on your TV set. In iDVD you can add music and transitions.
Burning a DVD is processor/memory intensive and with just 256 it will take longer than those machines with more memory. If you go that route you can burn the project to disk image first. Then you can play the mounted disk image with Quicktime Player to make sure the encoding was error free. Then you can use Disk Utility to burn the disk image to disk.

  • How can I send a slide show with email?

I am trying to send an album but want the receiver to get them as a slide show. does someone knows how?

Note that any kind of file containing a slide show with multiple photos is going to be quite large, most likely, and thus is not really appropriate for e-mail. Many servers won't accept attachments beyond a certain size, many people operate with strict mailbox size limits, and so your message may never arrive at its destination. I'd encourage you to do something else. For example, I think you can create a movie file - possibly using iMovie, I'm not sure though. Do that and upload it to YouTube, then send people an e-mail invitation to view it. If desired, YouTube allows you to set it to be viewable only to those who are invited and not to the general public.

  • Leveling Music Volume in a Slide Show

I have created a wmv file of a slide show to play using Windows Media Player. The music for the show consists of several songs. They have noticeably different volume levels. Is there a way, in PSE7, to level the volume among the songs?

You would need to do this in an audio program before bringing it into PSE.

1 -- What are the pixel dimension of the photo files that are used in this slide show ?
2 -- Did you add Pan or zoom when making the PSE slide show ?
3 -- When you say you exported to Premiere Elements,
-- did you only make the DVD menus and burn the DVD disc in Premiere Elements ? OR
-- did you also Edit the video in Premiere Elements using its Timeline or Scenes functions ?
4 -- Are you creating the DVD as Widescreen (16:9) or as Full Screen (4:3 aspect ratio) ?
    General comments --
Since you are creating a DVD (which is standard definition with pixel dimensions of 720 x 480 for NTSC in USA or 720 x 576 for PAL) inputing a high pixel resolution photo file to the slide show process can actually produce a lesser quality image in the DVD video in the final image. Generally recommended are using a photo editor for downsizing the photofile resolution to approx 1000 x 750 for 4:3 aspect ratio before you start making the slide show.
If you respond that you did use pan or zoom and you respond that you worked with (edited) the slide show video in Premiere Elements,
-- then there is a Premiere Elements parameter of Scale to Framesize that may be a significant factor in why you see pixelation.
-- Also it will be good to check the Premiere Elements project setting
When playing a DVD on a high resolution screen (either HD TV or computer monitor) the effectiveness of the upscaling hardware or software doing the playback is a factor in the quality of image that you see. I don't suspect that this is your only problem, but it can be a factor.

  • Preview mode doesn't display slide shows

I have the most recent Muse CC v7.1 Build 329, and Mac OS 10.9.1.
My machine is an iMac 27 (12,2) with 24 Gb RAM.
Any slide show created in Muse fails to display in "Preview" and "Preview in Browser". I have also downlaoded the "Katie's Cafe" tutorial file, and the slide show in the final file also fails to preview in these 2 modes.
Once exported to HTML. there seems to be no problem in the website files. The inability to preview without going to these lengths is a problem.
    Is there a solution?

    Hello Bob,
If you copy over the link/URL that you see in the browser's address field when you use Preview in Browser and then open that link in another browser, do you see the slideshow working?
