Inserts on Output Track have disappeared

I am working on a mix in Logic 8, and somehow the effects inserts on Output 1-2 (where I usually strap a bus compressor and limiter across the whole mix) have disappeared. There are no slots to instantiate plug-ins. If I open a new project they are there; the plug-in slots are only missing on this particular song. Any ideas?

Yes, it is usually named "Prelisten", and the actual audio object is usually the highest audio channel (eg, 256) depending on what you have your track preferences set to (as opposed to Logic 7, where it usually defaults to audio object 1, very inconveniently.)
The way Logic works is that every channel strip has a number, from 1 to however many audio objects you have, and related to the maximum number of tracks preference setting. The prelisten object is set by Logic to be the highest available audio object (ie channel strip) available to the system, so as not to interfere with regular work on the low numbered audio channel strips.
My prelisten channel strip, in a default L8 song, is on audio object 256.
The manual explains this, if you want more info.

  • All of the inserts in audio tracks have stopped working

I do get audio input, but the inserts do not work.
Does anyone know the fix for this?
    Thanks,
    Murray

I really have no idea what you are doing or what your signal routing looks like, nor do I know how experienced you are with audio software and signal routings in general. What I now think you mean is that you can't monitor your input properly, you cannot hear the signal of the mic? Is that right? Or how did you arrive to the conclusion that none of your plugins work on audio tracks? Have you actually put an audio file on your audio track?
If you want to hear your input +processed through Logics' plugins,+ you need to enable Software Monitoring - just add its button (with a 'muted speaker' icon) to the transport by rightclicking the transport and ticking *Software Monitoring* on the list. Button grey=off, button green with dot in it=on.
Of course the channel strip/track you receive the input on should also have an output selected, or you will never hear anything.

  • Preview disappeared after disabling some output tracks

I have generated preview for the entire project. In order to grab some still shots, I disabled some output tracks. After grabbing the still shots, I exited the program.
When I launch the program again, my preview has disappeared!
I found that the preview files are still at the same file location in my computer, so they are still "there" but it's not showing in Premier.
Is there a correct way to get them back without having to regenerate the entire preview?
I don't want to just do something becasue at the moment, I know the files are still there, it's just how to get them to show in Premier again.
    Thanks for any help.

Try enabling the output tracks that you disabled and see if it comes back.

  • LP 9 NOT DISPLAYING EQ or INSERTS ON OUTPUT CHANNEL STRIPS

This is odd: Logic is not displaying EQ or Inserts on some of the Stereo Output Channel Strips. Instead of "Output 1 - 2" I have a "Master Output" with no EQ or Inserts. When I check the other stereo output strips I find that only one (output 7-8) is displaying properly. How can I fix this?
    Thanks!

The output is turned on, yes. This is a session I did in Logic Pro 7 and opened in LP9. Again, as I said, OUTPUT 3-4, 5-6 also do not show up properly. Only Output 7-8 shows up w/EQ and Inserts showing.
I've opened several other LP7 sessions in LP9 and not had this problem. LP9 refuses to see the output (1-2) correctly.
When I turn off "Master" in the mixer window (upper right corner buttons), nothing changes. When I turn off "Outputs", the Master disappears.

  • Itunes and all my movies have disappeared,i can no longer add to library from my external hdd which ive always used and can only add from the laptops own hard drive, any ideas what the issue could be?

ive recently updated, itunes and all my movies have disappeared,i can no longer add to library from my external hdd which ive always used and can only add from the laptops own hard drive, any ideas what the issue could be?if i transfer the movies from the external to the laptop they will add to the library without any problem so theres no issue with the laptop but when i go to add file in itunes i can path to the external but as soon as i select the file nothing happens, just goes back to itunes

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • The thumbnail images have disappeared from one of my sequences

I have 3 sequences open in the timeline and the thumbnail images have disappeared from the clips in one of them. It's very frustrating to work without them, how do I get them back?

Thanks so much! That actually wasn't it though... The thumbnail display was already set to 'name plus thumbnail' but 'track size' was set to 'custom'. Once I changed 'track size' to 'small' (which is what my other sequences which were displaying thumbnails were set to) the thumbnails reappeared. Yipee!!!!

  • Just installed the latest iTunes software update and the extra images i had for my albums on iTunes have disappeared...Help?

Just installed the latest iTunes software update (iOS 5.0.1) on my MacBook Pro, and the extra images i had placed on my album covers in the selected item box have disappeared, leaving just one image per track. Any ideas on how to restore would be most appreciated...

Installing an iTunes update does not remove your media or personal files.
Are the files actually missing off the computer, if so, you have a serious computer issue... not a software update issue.
Regardless, use the backup of your media and other important files to put everything back.  You do have a backup, correct?

  • When I apply a plug in compressor on the final output track I get a click

1/I am applying a compressor on to a particular point of the track (in the final output track) and naturally all tracks go louder.. however my problem is at that point where the compressor switches on from its previous bypass status, I get a click. this is a problem I always have when suddenly I introduce a 'serious' plug into the final mix... your suggestions will be very welcome
2/ While my output never goes over 2.0 below the threshold 0.0 some times the final mix gives me much unwanted buzz in the speakers which must come from individual samples - probably samples that cant take that sort of compression- is there a standard way or a more conventional approach to compress the final mix so you get the loudness of everything still without buzz... a particular logic setting that seems to work for many cases perhaps with instrumental and orchestral work?
3/ would you compress track by track first and go through everything in this laborious way or just experiment on the final output track is equally the same?
I ll be grateful for any valuable advise..

Gosh, that was quick! Or perhaps you were just way ahead of me…
1 • This may not be the answer if it really is happening with many plug-ins, but you can get a click when a compressor cuts in if the attack setting is too short. And if the mix is getting louder at that point, you might consider turning down the gain on the compressor.
2 • If you're compressing a whole mix, then individual samples are not going to be "unable to take it". Check for the buzz with the speaker volume turned right down, or in headphones, or examine the final stereo mix audio file to look for clipping… because it may just be the speakers. If it's still definitely there, you need to find the source of the distortion, & the best way is to eliminate possible sources one at a time. Compression wouldn't be my preferred suspect, unless you have the gain cranked up. Which in light of the above, perhaps you have!
3 • Compression on the whole mix should be as effective as on individual tracks, but this is assuming you have already taken care to ensure your tracks are in a fit state. Compression introduces noise (can't be helped!), & in a mix it may be hard to hear just where that pesky noise is coming from… whereas if you check out individual tracks you may suddenly realise that by compressing that guitar you have made the amp hum REALLY LOUD when the guitar isn't actually playing. Time for a Noise Gate on that track!

    4mccarthys,
If you are certain that iCal is no longer present on your computer...
    To reinstall iCal:
    1. Insert the Leopard Installation disk into the computer.
    2. The disk will appear on the desktop.
    3. Double click on the "Optional Installs" folder.
    4. Double click on the "Optional Installs.mpkg."
    5. Click on (Continue) in Introduction.
    6. Click on (Continue) in Software License Agreement.
    7. Click on (Agree) to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.
    8. Click on the disclosure arrow ▶ next to Applications.
    9. Select (✓) iCal.
    10. Click (Continue).
    11. After iCal has been reinstalled, download and install the Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update to bring iCal up to the most recent version.

  • Fonts have disappeared

Hi, i'm hoping someone can help me....
Im having issues with font book. It's currently empty and all my fonts have disappeared. If i try to install a font it will appear in font book until i restart my computer, then it will disappear again. All Microsoft fonts are non-existent. The only fonts i can access in Microsoft applications are Mac System fonts (which aren't very many). I have looked in the font disabled folder and its empty. I have also downloaded linotype font explorer and it hasn't helped the situation.
This problem all started when i downloaded some fonts from the net for teaching purposes (which i will never do again after all the problems its caused me).
Can anyone help with idea's on how to restore all my fonts? Any advice is much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Ell

These fonts are not standard system fonts. They were most likely added by another app or you installed them manually at some point. For OCR A and B, the old Bitstream versions are installed by CorelDraw for instance. Without knowing which app it actually was, though, your best option is to track them down using font sites such as DaFont.

  • Master track vs. output track

I am having trouble with the following issue:
When I want to control the overall volume of a project or add a mastering preset I am unable to access a "master track" for some projects.
Under the drop down view menu I can show or hide only an "output track" instead which does not have the same options for mastering and does not show the channel strip on the right hand side of the inspector region.
    Any ideas?  Thanks.

Output Track vs. Master Track is a very important and often misunderstood concept in Logic. Besides the user interface (which one is displayed where) you have to understand the concept and their difference first. Then, it makes much more sense why one or the other is displayed that way.
Here is an excerpt from my graphically enhanced book "Logic Pro X - How it Works" where I explain all the details how:
From a signal flow point of few (it helps if you are familiar with reading signal flow diagrams), the Output Channel Strip is just the summing Channel Strip. The signals from all the Channel Strip that send their output to that specific Output Channel Strip will be "summed" ("mixed") together and you have the final controls available (Fader, Plugins) to tweak your "mixed" signal on the Output Channel Strip. Each Output Channel Strip (yes there might be more than one), represents one physical output channel of your selected Audio Interface, that's where the signal is going to.
The Master Channel Strip is just an additional "Offset" gain control that you can use (but shouldn't under basic mixing situations). It has more functionality and use when you are working with surround sound. For a stereo situation make sure that it is always at 0dB (unity gain), because that component is always there, no matter if you use it or not (know about it or not). Technically, the Master Channel Strip is nothing other than a Track Track (a Folder Stack).
    Hope that helps

  • Manage Sites - All my existing Sites have disappeared..?

I have recently recovered form a hard drive crash and set up a new home directory.
When I open the <Manage Sites> dialog box in Dreamweaver CS4 all of my existing sites have disappeared and the list is empty.'
If I track the path in Finder <username/library/Application Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS4/en-US/configuration.SiteCache> I can see that all of the sites are still listed in folders there.
Is there a way to redirect Dreamweaver to see these existing sites?
If not, can someone suggest the best way to recover from this/
    Thanks

Correct - in order to keep those that are currently on the iPad they need to stay checked, and additional albums that you check will be added to those that are already on the iPad. Synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, they can only be deleted by un-checking/de-selecting them on that tab.

  • Unexpected Pauses between tracks & a disappearing Nano

I've had my Product Red nano for nearly a month now & its great, but every so often at the end of a track, the Nano will pause for about 5 seconds before starting to play the next track. Anyone else experience this? I need to know soon, If its defective so I can exchange it out for a different one.
I've also noticed that with the iTunes7 the Nano will sync up, and right afterwards 50% of the time will dissapear from iTunes. My 2G iPod & U2 iPod never have done that in iTunes 7. I called Apple support and they told me that it normal for the iPod to unmount after updating & remove itself from the Left Pane. I don't see how that's normal since it doesn't always disappear. The nano always disappears as soon as I connect any other iPod to the computer. But if one of the other iPods are connected & I plug in the Nano, I see them both until the Nano is updated then it disappears.
It really frustrating cause I will play several tracks & have to manually remove & reconnect the Nano to sync. Anyone have any ideas?

This question is one that crops up a lot on these forums and has been a major source of complaint for as long as the iPod has been in existence.
Currently the only way to eliminate the gap between songs is to import the cd as one track. You do this by using the “join cd tracks” option in the advanced menu of iTunes.
Make sure the tracks are in their correct order, and highlight those you wish to join.
No gaps, but the downside is that you will of course lose the ability to navigate between tracks, and the song info is also lost. The iPod will display the cd title in the song field in the “now playing” screen . You’ll also have one large file instead of a number of smaller ones.
If you would like to see gapless playback implemented to the iPod, add your voice to the many here.

The crossfade feature is an iTunes feature only just fyi.
