Inside lesion in the top surface glass of my Magic Mouse

Hallo to all.
This is my Magic Mouse purchesed in Itali on March 22 2011.
I always always maximum care and it has never any fallen. These days I've suddenly noticed a lesion in a top glass surface . What should I do? Does Apple warranty cover these problems?
Thanks

As it's still under warranty I'd call Applecare and they'll probably replace it for you.

  • Is there a way to reduce the effective surface area of a magic mouse?

I apparently cannot hold my mouse the "correct" way. My palm still wants to rest on the back half of the mouse, particularly when I want to scroll. And sometimes when I grab the mouse, my finger will swipe the edge and cause the screen to scroll.
All I want to do is reduce the active surface area of the touch surface to be more centralized toward the front, you know where most mice buttons and scroll wheels are located. I have found no advantage to having such a large active surface area with the way I use a mouse.
Love the concept. Now I just want a little more control.
Oh, and since this is a typically, beautifully designed Apple product, an aesthetically pleasing solution is preferred, i.e. no duct tape.
Are there any clear protective adhesive covers for the Magic Mouse that would help?

The concept of the Magic Mouse is brilliant. I hated the scroll wheel. Loved when Apple had the scroll ball. But then that got annoying (all those track ball issues from days gone by are just as present with the scroll ball).
I thought the capacitive surface was the solution. Now it has only created its own version of the problems. I don't know if it is the software, bluetooth, the hardware, or increased sun spots. But it works brilliantly when I don't want it to (finger just hovering above the surface or just accidentally brush the edge with my finger) and doesn't when I need it to (surface area too large and the initial hesitation before it starts scrolling, which makes the screen jump to catch up).
What I hate most is when I am scrolling a window that has a embedded window that also scrolls (most often on web pages). The whole page stops scrolling. It's like a magnet to my curser (in that Murphy's law way). No matter where I put my curser when I scroll a window, it will almost always be where that embedded window is inline and stop my primary window from scrolling.
Has anyone gotten this right? Apple has done the best that I've found, but there is still much that needs improving.

Which brand is THE best in rechargeable batteries for Magic Mouse AND last long ?

I've been using the Apple rechargables in my keyboards/mice/trackpads for over a year now.  They last 3-4 weeks in my usage pattern but I have spares ready to go when they get weak.

  • Most of the time when i click my magic mouse on an item it gives me options like back, open new page, etc.

When I try to use my magic mouse, most of the time it won't open an item but instead will give me options like: back, open new page, open link in new window, and I am actually on top of for instance, the comment field in facebook...It takes several attempts of clicking off the entire page to get it to just open the link or respond appropriately...

the mouse performs a right click instead of a left click. Check your mouse preferences in the system settings.

  • Can I perform the "control  F3" function with my magic mouse?

If I press "control + F3" all of my open Safari windows pop up in an orgainzed fashion showing each page complete and seperate in a smaller form.  I want to know if I can perform this function using my magic mouse, not trackpad.
I know that if I double tap my mouse that the windows will do a similar alignment, but it is not the same.  If I double tap then they are kind of made smaller but placed on top of each other.  I want them seperated completely like they are when I press "control + F3."
    Any help with this?  Thanks.

  • What is the proper way to disconnect a magic mouse and reconnect a wired mouse with new Mac Pro?

I can disconnect the magic mouse pairing, but when I then connect the wired mouse, it malfunctions. I can open folders, etc., but then I can't close them by clicking on the close button.

Thanks for your response. Actually, this is the first thing I did. But I just tried it again, and still the mouse malfunctions.
I can open a folder, but when I press the close button in the corner, a toolbar customization menu comes up, but the window does not close.
I have already chatted online with an apple tech several times and taken my computer in to an apple store tech -  but no resolution to the problem. The online tech could see the problem with screen sharing, but couldn't fix it, and the tech at the apple store could not replicate the problem. In pursuit of an answer, I have also purchased a new wireless mouse (which works), a new wired mouse, and a new keyboard.
I have a late 2013 Mac Pro running 10.9.5, connected by HDMI to a 27" LG IPS display (27EA83R). I am now going to purchase a new HDMI cable and see if that helps. If it doesn't, the only thing left that hasn't been replaced or tested by a tech is the display. I have been assured by both an LG tech and an apple tech that the display is almost certainly not the problem -  but at this point I am not sure I have the greatest confidence in these guys.

  • Top surface coming undone from bottom shell

I got my MacBook today (white, 2GHz, 1GB/80GB). But it's going back.
I really was very impressed. Until I started inspecting the machine more closely and noticed that the top surface of the unit (where the keyboard and the palm-rests are) was coming undone from the bottom part of the shell along several centimeters, on both the left and right sides of the Mac (to the left and right of the keyboard). A visible gap was apparent, big enough to slip a fingernail in.
I called Apple and the tech guy didn't even argue for a second and immediately transfered me to the sales rep who arranged for an exchange.
Still, I wasn't sure making an exchange was the right move, so I went to the local Fnac store (in Paris) to check out the units on display. There were 5 MacBooks, and some of them had the same problem, but much less pronounced than on mine (shorter and narrower gap, one side, not 2 etc.), while others didn't have the problem at all. When I got back home, I examined it again, and noticed the top surface coming undone in one small spot on the front of the MacBook, and I also noticed that the spot where the lower right half of the Mac connects to the screen hinge was a quite askew.
Needless to say I'm disappointed, because I really liked everything about the machine and I hate to have to wait another week to get another (hopefully better built) MacBook...

I wasn't offered an exchange, either. Mine has been in the shop (mail-in) for ten days now, waiting on repair of warping case pieces. It's quite frustrating that it's taking this long.

  • I have a 5 month old Magic Mouse and I want to replace the batteries for the first time but the battery door will not release any suggestions?

The battery compartment door on my Magic Mouse appears to be jammed shut and will not open, the device is only 5 months old and this is the first time I have needed to open it to change the batteries. Are there any suggestions?

It could be you are approaching it incorrectly.   It can be a tricky little gadget that actually works with minimal pressure.
Try turning over the mouse so the compartment panel faces you, optical sensor topmost.  Then holding the mouse at each side but not on the panel itself, flick the small, black rectangular panel downwards.   The top of the panel should spring out, though it may require you to manipulate it fully away from the mouse.
Once you have replaced the batteries, starting at the bottom reverse the procedure then clip into place.   Remember to move the small switch next to the optical sensor upwards which should turn on the green light.   Then click twice to connect.

  • Magic Mouse Surface

Hello, i have a "problem" with my magic mouse!
the problem is, i use my magic mouse on a wooden desk, now on the just mobile alupad (designed for magicmouse) but it feels so scratchy and isn't smooth to move, its like moving it over sandpaper (on the desk and on the mousepad)... i already bought a 2nd magic mouse to see if its better with that one, but still on wood and the mousepad it feels like moving it on verry rough sandpaper. i don't care about the noise, but i just want something where the mouse moves smooth
what are you using as a surface for the magicmouse?
thanks for any help / suggestions

    A mouse pad.
Microban mouse pad purchased at Office Depot. Works great for me with a new Mighty Mouse.
    No noise.

  • Lion's page-turning gestures on the magic mouse don't work in the App Store

    Hi.
Does anyone know why Lion's swipe gestures for moving forwards and backwards through pages don't work in the App Store?  I have the Lion OS and use a magic mouse in conjunction with MagicPrefs, stored in the System Preferences, and the gestures work with every app except the App Store.
    Thanks.

I'm not familiar with the Magic Mouse, so I don't know how the gestures are different from those on a trackpad.  However, on a trackpad, you can use a two-finger left or right swipe to scroll horizontally, which - in Safari only - will also go forward or backward between pages.  There is also a three-finger swipe that more properly goes forward or backward in any app that supports that, including the App Store, iTunes, etc.  You'll want to use that gesture instead.

  • The glass on my new ipad air was broken one day. I have had it for about a month. 1 day I took it out of its case as usual and the screen was splintered at the top and cracked downwards.  It had not received any bangs, or been dropped or anything.  Help!

Hi, I have had my ipad air for about a month.  The other day I took it out of its cover and it was splintered from the top with downward cracks.  It is new and under warranty so I rang the support team.  They told me that it would cost about €120 but could be repaired on the spot and they made me an appointment at the local genius bar.  I got there and they told me that I had dropped it or banged it or something.  I said I had not, they insisted that I must have done.  I repeated several times that I had not - it was obvious they did not believe me, they said I must have done.  They then told me they never repaired or replaced broken glass in any ipads, that the man on the 'Support' had been wrong.  They always replaced the whole ipad at a cost of €300.  I was devastated at not being believed and at the amount of money they were asking for.  I left and rang the support again.  I was told their system was down but to call on monday to get a quote for the reparation, I could send it to my home insurance company and they would undoubtedly cover the repair.  I asked how long this was all going to take because, I was in the middle of a big project and this was taking up my time, and also I needed the ipad for my work.  They told me it would be done in a minute.  I rang on the Monday and I was told it would take up to 5 days to send but probably it would arrive sooner (it is now thursday, I have received nothing).  I then rang my household insurance, a big company - and they told me they had never heard of such a cover.  I asked if this was because I had a very basic policy, they said, no it wasn't that - I didn't have a basic policy I had quite thorough policy, but they didn't know of a policy in any comany that would cover this sort of damage.  I was stunned - yet again I had been given false information and false hope by apple.  Yet again I was let down.  I then decided to do a further investigation on the internet and discovered a long trail of comments on Apple Forum of people who have also had splintering and cracking of the ipad air glass for no reason whatsoever.  Some have commented that the glass could be thinner in order to reduce the weight, some have said that the splintering could be caused by a weakness in the casing at the top where it is plastic (the ones that take sims) that might make it more flexible and therefore liable to crack.
All of the posts and complaints on the apple forum and elsewhere seem to point to a design fault.  However throughout all this I have been mislead by apple support staff constantly who all say different things, I have virtually been accused of lying by denying that my ipad received any kind of impact by apple staff and I have been left feeling incredibly frustrated and upset by the total lack of any kind of real help by Apple.  All this despite being acomplet apple user in my business for the last 25 years, where I have never come across this attitude towards me as a customer before.
When the screen on my iphone broke, it was because I fell in the street while I was talking on the telephone, it flew out of my hand and smashed on the pavement.  I was rolling around in agony, while my son was holding up the smashed telephone wailing 'Mama, you've smashed your iphone!!!'  This of course, I blamed on noone but myself - it broke because it fell, I paid an arm and a leg without protest to get it repaired.
This is not the case with my new ipad air.  It has splintered for no good reason at all - and noone at Apple seems to want to help me or to care!
I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me if there is anything else I can do to ge this matter resolved?

If it was a refurb replacing one that was under warranty, the warrany is good until the original warranty expires or 90 days from replacement, whichever is longer. In either event, it should still be covered if you've only had it for a month. (assuming you're in the US here). You can try to restore it as a NEW device rather than restoring from your backup, but this sounds like a hardware failure... I think. I'm not sure what you mean by "the top half of the screen slides". If you mean only the top half is touch sensitive, how can you determine that? You wouldn't be able to slide to unlock if that were the case...
Sorry, I'm a little confused by that description.

  • I have an iPhone 5 and when i lightly tap on the back top part of my phone it sounds like something is rattling inside. Only on the top part of the phone, not on the bottom. I am wondering if anyone knows what this may be and should i have it looked at?

Definitlely have it looked at. That could be a hardware deffect on the maker(apple) so there could be a definite replacement option.

  • My Office for Mac 2008 disk has a scratch in the paper on the top.  When I load it in my MacBook Pro the drive makes a low pitched beep?  Can I repair the surface ( the bottom is fine and it is not cracked).  Are there any other options.

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro which has been working fine.  Had to reformat HD and reload software.  Am using Mountain Lion which MS said supports Office Mac 2008.  When loading it the drive ran then began making a low frequency beep, then ejected the disk.  Upon inspection I see a scratch in the paper on the top of the disk, but there is no crack and the bottom surface is clean without scratches.
I assume this problem is from this damage.  If so what can I do to repair it so it will work in the drive.
If not what else would cause this problem.  Thanks for you help. Emom6

DVD drives read the bottom of the disk, not the top. Smooth out the paper & try again.
