  • Insignia 26" LCD TV/DVD Combo display problem

My Insignia 26" LCD TV/DVD Combo has a display problem when you turn it on it is very bright, changes to verticle stripes after about 10 minutes of "warm up" you begin to see a egraded picture and after a little more warm-up the picture finally comes through clear.  I am past my warrenty period but I would like to fix the TV rather than throw it away.
    1) can someone tell me what the problem is
    2) identify the part that needs replacment and the cost
    3) estimate repair cost if I brought it in to be fixed
    Thank you

Try setting the input to antenna and then scanning. If that doesn't work, you will need to get a tuner box.

I am looking to expand my desktop with a 2nd monitor. As a bonus I would like the monitor to have a built in TV tuner NTSC and DVD player if possible.
Specifically what do I need to worry about for the computer desktop resolution/pixel count etc so the computer screens look good not just the HDTV content.

hey there Ryan, welcome to discussions!
it can depend on what you're doing... i've discovered i can't edit in Final Cut Pro 6 using my 42" Sony LCD proj. HDTV, but i can use my 42" Sony to watch DVDs & HD QT content from Apple's site. i can display my e-mail but i can't read it @ 1920x1080i from 10 feet away, i need to use a lower rez. in this instance when Apple says it does/doesn't support something it means their tests have shown best results(does support-23" monitor for any/everything) or you can try but if it doesn't work it's a limitation we can't do anything about(doesn't support-42" does work but not for everything). this is how i've interpreted their specs as i've pushed the envelope for using my MacBook.
Apple's specs don't support using my 42" Sony, but it does work, just not for everything(like Final Cut Pro) as it falls outside of the "safe zone" of their testing where all of the MacBook's capabilities work well. buy/borrow a cable to try the MacBook w/ your TV or take the Macbook to a Store to see what you get.
    good luck.

  • UK based Apple TV defaulting to 720p 60Hz when going through HDMI matrix

    (I'm UK based)
I am trying to run my AppleTV through an HDMI 1.3 matrix switch (HDCP compatible) so it can feed two TV's and switch between a Sky HD input and the AppleTV input.
Sky HD sends an HDMI 1080i 50Hz signal protected by HDCP and this is passed through the matrix switch just fine to both TV's, so I know the matrix is working fine.
With the Apple TV however, as soon as I connect it to the matrix, the TV Resolution setting inside the Apple TV Audio/Video settings, defaults back to 720p 60Hz, which is not able to pass through the matrix.
The only way to get the setting back to 1080i 50Hz or 720p 50Hz is to unplug from the matrix and plug direct into the TV and change the setting back to 1080i. However it will just jump back to 720p 60Hz when I connect it to the matrix again.
Has anyone encountered the AppleTV automatically changing its TV Resolution setting just by plugging it into certain HDMI devices? Are there any settings to combat this?
    Many thanks
    Mark

Thanks Winston. I have eliminated cable issues. No display in the UK supports 720p 60Hz, so it won't show up correctly even if it got through. I totally understand why you consider this the fault of the switch, but I'm looking at this from a different perspective.
The Apple TV should NEVER be in 720p 60Hz mode. I have not set it to that, I've not got a single display which supports that format. However the AppleTV, for what ever reason, is making this change on its own.
Why is the AppleTV making this change? Only Apple knows it seems. In reality it should honor the setting I have made, which is 1080i 50hz. If it did that everything would be fine, therefore the answer has to be that this is a bug in Apple TV, since not a single other HDMI device does this with this switch.
I think the only course of action now is to submit this to Apple as a bug.
    Thanks

  • 22CV1000 Toshiba LCD TV/DVD combo: Sound but no display

I am having problems with my 22CV1000 Toshiba LCD TV/DVD combo!
When I turn the tv on, it sounds like it is trying to read a DVD. The display appears for second, but then goes black. I still have sound, just no display.
The Toshiba help line told me to unplug and replug the tv - but that did not help.
I would really appreciate your advice!

At this point, I think you should call support back. It sounds like it might need a repair.

  • 19" lcd dynex tv/dvd combo problem

I am wondering if anyone can help me with this.
I have 2 19" lcd tv/dvd combo... one in each kids room. I mounted em up on the wall so the kids couldn't mess with them.
So now heres my problem, both of the tvs when turned on turn off then back on then back off... continuous
Ive unplugged em, tried pushing different buttons. Still nothing.

    Both of them?
    Really? Both?
    Now that's odd.
That sort of thing makes you think it's an external problem (not relating to the TV) - but let me ask you this, did they start doing it at the same time or did one do it, and then the other later on? If so, what changes did you make if any?

  • Insignia 42 inch LCD

I have an Insignia 42 inch LCD that I bought last February and yesterday I noticed it has a thin vertical red line on the left hand side of the tv.
Has anyone ever seen this before and what is it?
How do I fix it, my warranty is of course over with now!!
    PLEASE HELP

    Hi ANGDAK28,
So sorry you're having problems so soon after the manufacturer's warranty has expired.  I am by no means an expert on this, but what I'm seeing in other online support forums regarding red vertical lines on lcds suggests that this could be caused by a number of issues, ranging from wiring to the circuit board to the actual lcd panel - at any rate, it doesn't sound like an easy fix.  You may wish to contact Insignia at 1-877-467-4289 to see if they can offer any recommendations over the phone, but they could also arrange for a tech to diagnose your television and give you a repair estimate (there would be a basic charge for the diagnostic, of course).
    Hope this helps!

  • 10.8.3 can't set to display 720p 60hz on my hdmi setup.

Hi all, will greatly appreciate if I can get some solutions from the forum community here.
I just upgraded my mbp from 10.6.8 to 10.8.3. Most of the time I'm required to connect this comp to a hdmi cable and out to a black magic intensity pro card for secondary screening presentation purpose.
The hdmi display settings that is required for this to work is 720p 60hz.
Now in 10.8.3 I can only choose 60hz (NTSC) and not just 60hz itself anymore.
I'm pretty sure on the previous version 10.6.8 I can choose 60hz or 60hz (NTSC) and I can't after upgrading.
Now, whenever mirror settings is on, I change from 1080 to 720p 60hz (NTSC) under hdmi and when I click off on the mirror settings, it seems the secondary display screen return back to 1080 and not stay at 720.
It wasn't like this before. I've encountered this issue previously on 10.6.8. There's a drop down section on the refresh rate selection. We tried 60hz (NTSC) and it didn't work. Until a random click on just 60hz made the secondary screen projected out.
How am I able to maintain the hdmi secondary screen to 720p 60hz or how am i able to select 60hz and not 60hz (NTSC) after changing it from 1080 which is the default settings ?
    Marco.

Double-check your preferred and alternate DNS server in the EWS.  I will include a sample photo and instructions on how to set a static IP for an Officejet printer.  It isn't your exact model but it should be the same instructions.
Type only the numbers of your printer's IP address into a web browser and if you see information about your printer then you are successfully in the printer's embedded web server (EWS). You know how to do this but I thought I would include this just in case.
Select the "Network" tab and under the word Wireless on the left hand side you will see IPv4 if your printer is setup wirelessly.
Click on IPv4 and then highlight the circle to the right that says Manual IP. Next, select the gray button below that says "Suggest a Manual IP Address."  This will fill in most of the boxes for you to eliminate the risk of user error.  This will change your IP address so feel free to keep the new IP address or change the top row back to the first number you entered into the web browser to start with.
At the bottom of this page you have a preferred and alternate DNS server.  The preferred DNS server should say 8.8.8.8 and the alternate DNS server should say 8.8.4.4.
Reboot the printer with the power button after clicking "Apply" to help complete the process.  After doing so you should have connectivity to the server.  Press the ePrint button on the printer after the printer turns back on and let me know if you still have that error on your printer.
Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" if I helped solve your problem.
When a solution is found please mark the post that solves your issue.

  • Connect HDTV to VCR DVD combo device and Motorola 7101 Cable Box

Hi all, first post.  Am not too saavy re: new technology.  Iam trying to connect my Panasonic VCR DVD combo to my TV:  Sony HDTV and Verizon 7101 Cable box.  Should be fairly straightforward but being technologically illiterate it is very challenging.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks   Jergen

There are usually several choices. If your DVD/VCR has S- inputs and outputs, the preference is to run S-Video cables from the cable box to the DVD/VCR, and from the DVD/VCR to the TV set (that will be another input on the TV). The S-VHS connections will provide the best standard definition video quality.
The audio is more complicated. I ended up using Y cables so that I could split L and R audio outputs into two L and two R audio outputs. , one set runs to the TV, the other  set to the VCR/DVD audio inputs.. You will need to run Audio cables from the DVD/VCR from the audio outputs on the VCR/DVD to the audio inputs that correspond to the S-video input you are using for video from the VCR/DVD to the TV.
Generally you have to enable the S-vide input on the DVD/VCR if it has one, and it usually an option with an Aux input.
If you DVD/VCR unit doesn't support S-Video input, then you run a cable from the composite video output on the Cable box to the composite input on the DVD/VCR. You still have to split the audio. If it doesn't have S-VHS input, it may not have S-VHS output, in which case you run composite video to the TV in addition to the audio cables.
IF neither of those are appealing to you, the cable box also output SD TV on either Channel 3 or 4 (your choice), and you can just run a coaxial cable connection from the cable box to the DVD/VCR instead of the Audio and Video cabling, you can also run a coaxial cable from the DVD/VCR to the TV's antenna input and tune the TV to channel 3 or 4 (your choice, determined by whatever channel the DVD/VCR is set to output on). If you use Coaxial cable, whatever links you use it with do not need the AV cables, however the picture quality will be substantially lower than S-Video, and somewhat lower than the composite video.

  • Cannot program tv/dvd combo 32" Insignia brand on fios remote

I purchasesd a Best Buy brand  Insignia 32" tv/dvd combo.  I was able to program the fios remote for the tv portion, but was unable to program the dvd. I used the method for both the tv and the dvd where you enter 922, etc. and scroll.  The tv programming worked the first time, but the dvd programming failed after several attempts.  I pressed fast forward each time until the remote flashed that it was finished.  I tried the dvd programming with a dvd playing. Anybody have a solution to my problem?  Thanks in advance.

I've got the same problem on my insignia. The problem is that tv/dvd  or tv/vcr  combo units are notoriously hard to get inexpensive remotes to work on. Its due to it being a combo unit. Combo units do not use "standard codes"  (most of the time).
Unfortunatly if you have already done the scan mode on the remote, it is not likely going to work with the verizon remote. Getting a generic universal remote and programming it to the verizon stb may be your only hope of getting everything on one remote

  • Insignia 55inch led LCD no digital inputs.

I have an Insignia 55inch led LCD that was damaged by lightning.  Now I only have coax and RCA inputs.  All the HDMI inputs are inoperable.  Is this worth fixing?  It is out of warranty and my insurance deductible is higher than the replacement cost.  Is there a Insignia repair center in Dallas Texas I can get an estimate from?

While the discussion of what is and isn't covered is  moot since the OP said it's outside of warranty (assuming this means he owned it past the warranty period), I did want to point this out to bubberuchi under exclusions:
Damage to your product caused by accident (unless you have purchased the optional ADH or Advanced Coverage and it’s a covered event), abuse, neglect, intentional physical damage, misuse (including faulty installation, repair, or maintenance by anyone other than an authorized service provider), unauthorized modification, viruses and/or spyware (unless you have the Vi-Spy Coverage), performance failures due to not maintaining firmware updates, extreme environment (including extreme temperature or humidity), external condensation, mold, immersion/submersion in liquid (e.g. pool, bathtub, etc.), lightning, fire, flood, insect infestation, rodents, war, terrorism, computer software related failures, Acts of God or other external causes.
If you take the contract as a whole, it sounds like power surges are covered, as long as they are not due to lightning. This didn't make sense to me until I learned that lightning is one of the less common causes of power surges. I always thought lightning was a major cause. TIL...

  • Anybody Making HDTV DVDs?

    Is anybody making HDTV DVDs?
I understand you need at least a dual Power PC.
Even if you can't burn them, you could author them and play them in simulation mode off your hard drive.
I see a number of Blue Ray and HD DVD recorders either apparently on the market or soon to come out.
However the ones I see on the web seem to be home TV HDTV recorders not computer peripherals.
Do you think that Apple will build one into the next generation dual core towers?

If you can run DVD SP 4, you can author a HD DVD.
It will play, albeit without menus, on the new Toshiba HD DVD player, and on a G5 Macintosh. They can be burned in current DVD burners with DVD SP4.
As to other questions, I'm certain that Blu Ray, which Apple is on board for, will eventually find its way into Mac computers.
Currently, there are no state side HD DVD burners available. Just the two Toshiba HD DVD players using HDMI connections.

  • VCR/DVD combo (maybe without a tuner) to use with a converter box?

The VCR that I've been using is starting to chew up tapes so I'm looking for a replacement.   I've had my eye on a Magnavox ZV426MG9 VCR/DVD tunerless combo since the manual I looked up online indicated that it could be connected to a converter box.  However, some negative customer reviews of that unit and the Magnavox unit WITH a tuner, ZV457MG9, make me wary of getting that one.  Also, my stepfather has said that he's had problems with previous Magnavox recording devices he's owned.  So does anyone have any recommendations for a VCR/DVD combo unit, with or without a tuner, that can be connected to a converter box that they could recommend?  Since I have a converter box, I figure I may not necessarily need a tuner but it has to be able to be connected to a converter box, not just a cable or satelite box.  I'm thinking of copying movies that I've recorded on VHS to DVD to increase my supply of usable tapes.  I record cartoons that I watch every day.  Also, since I don't have a lot of money to spend, I'm considering factory refurbished or used items.  On ebay my spending limit is up to $100.  Each time I think I think I can afford to order what I need, something else comes up that needs to be paid off and I keep having to put it off.   And I don't suppose I can put a Geek Squad service plan on something I buy somewhere else.  If I can, let me know how that can be done.

Thanks. Changing the channel isn't really an issue for me since I usually only record one channel a day and that's cartoons in the morning.  If I need to record anything else in the evening, I've usually at home to reset the VCR and set the channel on the converter box.  I figured out how to record from a converter box on a VCR and wrote a post about it on Best Buy's digital tv transition board before they took that board down.  And I have done some research on tunerless VCR/DVD combos from looking up the manuals online and contacting the manufacturers directly and found that not all tunerless units can be set up to converter boxes. Some can only be connected to satelite or cable boxes, or at least the manuals only include instructions for connections to cable and satelite boxes and nothing else or the manufacturers claim that connections are only possible to such devices.  As for Panasonic, my stepfather bought a Panasonic unit and had terrible luck with it and so I am staying away from that.

  • No picture on TV/DVD combo when connected to laptop via HDMI

I have. 2008 19LV50KW TV/DVD combo that I'm trying to use as a second monitor for my new laptop. I have it connected via HDMI port, and the laptop recognizes the Toshiba, I have windows 7 and have dual monitors enabled, yet there is only Black on the Toshiba TV (I have it on the HDMI input selection). What could be the issue ?

I've seen a number of similar posts around the internet.  I have this same Toshiba TV, and my new fire TV stick from amazon will not display via the HDMI (the only option).  So then I tried my laptop, and discovered that it too would NOT display.
Based on that troubleshooting, I've concluded that it much be an issue with the TV.  Can this be remedied in any way?  Both my fire TV stick and my laptop work on all of my other TVs.  There seems to clearly be an issue with the HDMI input with this Toshiba model, and maybe more.
    Please advise.
