Insignia 32 LED TV and Sony STR-DH720 HDMI ARC question

I have my new Insignia 32 LED TV connected via HDMI to my new Sony STR-DH720 Home Theater AMP.  When I turn on the TV it properly turns on the AM and initially sets AMP to TV input but then a few seconds later it swtiches to VIDEO 2 and then I get no sound.  If I manually set the AMP back to the TV input I get good video and sound.  I want it to stop switching to VIDEO 2 (where nothing is connected) and just stay on TV.  Any ideas on why it is switching and how I can make it just stay on TV.  The HDMI cable is connected to the correct port on the TV and the AMP.

yeah of the input from the imac to the tv will just be one of the input hdmi sources you have on your list in the sony menu
I have an Apple TV, a google chrome card, a sat box and at times wifes macbook pro I just switch between them in the bravia menu

  • Macbook Pro 13 (June 2011) and Sony Bravia connectivity using HDMI port.

    Hi,
I have searched many forums and posts here and there, but no where got the perfect solution, also most of the places people are misxing the problems with other problems.
My Problem: I am not able to see even Sovy TV in my MBP display page, and hence not able to connect to Sony Bravia to my MBP.
What I am using: Macbok pro 13 June 2011, Lion 10.7.2, Sony Bravia 40EX550, DVI Mini Adaptor for Mac (at one side DVI male connector and other side female HDMI connector) and one HDMI cable (the cable which comes with my DTH provider both ends are for Male HDMI pin)
I do not think i would require anything more in this.
Now after connecting with Adaptor to my MBP i connected the other end to HDMI cable which was already connected to HD TV HDMI port (there are 4 ports and i tried all the ports)
When i opened the System Pref -> Displays I got below screen
Here in above screen I clicked on Detect Displays but nothing happens, actually it should detect the Sony Tv and there on I sohuld do some settings.
Please any one can help on that. Sorry for this repeated kind of problem , but I have searched in many forums and here on discussion.apple.com also , but evywhere people are mixing 2 different problem into one, some people are not getting the display and few of them not event getting the detection of the HDTV. So I posted here for the later one.

Right now your MBP is not recognizing the TV.  You should get a display in SYSTEM PREFERENCES>DISPLAYS similar to this.  Note the 'Arrangement option in the menu bar.  Your connections are bad or you have a faulty cable and/or adapter.
I assume you are using a MINI DISPLAY PORT/HDMI adapter, not a DVI adapter.
    Ciao.

  • New Apple TV and OLD HD ready Sony w/o HDMI

I have an old HD ready Sony TV... no HDMI connection. However, I also have a DISH satellite receiver that provides the HD tuner and does have an HDMI connection.
Can I plug the HDMI cable from my DISH receiver to Apple TV box and make all this work? I'd hate to order the Apple TV and not be able to connect it... don't want to buy a new TV quite yet.
    Thanks

  • You View and Sony Bravia HDMI connection issues

For what it is worth I though I would post a solution that has worked which solved compatability issues between some Sony Bravia TV's and YouView boxes.
I have used a YouView box with no problem via a SCART on an old TV
I invested in a Sony Bravia - installed today by John Lewis
The YouView was only recognised by the Bravia if it was switched on by the power switch - once on it bringing it out of standby via the remote and selecting the input on the Bravia would only lead to a Blank Screen on the Sony (it would also not swiitch automatically to the input the YouView was on).
Long discussion with Sony followed and Sony said "most" of their TV's would recognise YouView via HDMI - but some had "unexplained" compatability issues - when asked what I should do the Sony man said if this was important I should ask John Lewis to change the set.......
Helpful discussion with John Lewis support - I did not want to change the set and JL suggeted connecting the YouView to the Sony HDMI via an HDMI "switch" box - only connecting the YouView to the switch box. (It seems that the Sony will recognise the switch - but not the YouView directly....)
Bought a Switch from Maplin (HSW0501BN) - connected YouView to the switch and the switch to Sony Bravia TV via HDMI - and it works brilliantly.....
Turning the YouView on/off via the remote from standby changes the input source to the YouView on the Sony - and it has always been recognise by the Sony - no more blank screens.
A pain in the neck for a new TV - clearly a problem with some Sony Bravia TV's and YouView - it would be nice if both YouView (Humax) and Sony could talk together to fix it....
But for now it seems the intermediate switch gets over the issue.
I thought this was worth sharing in case anyone else has the same issue - I cannot say it will work for every-one - but it worked for me - thanks to John Lewis support.............
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi
    It's a SONY KD-55X-8505BBU  --  It's the "lo-spec" 4K model and works brilliantly.
The SONY man said "most" of their TV's work with YouView HDMI - but they have had some instances of incompatability and could do nothing about it.............
The YouView worked with the SONY - but it needed to be switched on and off for the HDMI to recognise it - I temporarily ran it through the SCART - which worked OK (to which the SONY man asked why I was concerned if it worked with a SCART!!!)
The advice from John Lewis was great - just connected the YouView HDMI to a HDMI switch box - and connected the swirch box to the SONY - it all works fine now.
It just seems that SONY are not aware (or are not prepared to tell you) the solution - and only higher level John Lewis staff are aware of this (the John Lewis installer was stumped).
Not sure anyone else will have the problem (although I have seen several reports of this on the web) - and I am happy with the solution - just wish the (paid for) installers knew - and that SONY knew/or were prepared to tell you (guess they did not want to be asked for the price of the HDMI to cure the "incompatability" problem).
I was so amazed at the poor response from SONY and I asked them to confirm that the call was recorded and took the recording number - needless to say John Lewis was not impressed with Sony telling me that the only solution was to send the set back to John Lewis  --  Sony have suffered a big drop in my estimation - although the TV is brilliant......

  • Sony STR-DN1040 audio cuts out briefly, frequently

Audio on my new Sony STR-DN1040 cuts out whan SAT/CATV is the source. This happens frequently (every 30 seconds to a minute, unpredictably), though it is only for a fraction of a second each time.
When the audio cuts out, the following items on the front display panel of the receiver all flash off momentarily:
    A.P.M.Dolby Digital SymbolD.L.L.
When I reconnect the cable box directly to the TV instead of the receiver (same HDMI cable), the audio issue goes away. I have tried resetting/clearing the receiver. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks again for your suggestions! They are much appreciated.
I have noticed that the problem is apparent on some TV channels more than others. Some channels seem to cause the audio drop and other channels don't.
I have now tried attaching my Blu-Ray player to the SAT/CATV port using the same HDMI cable. The problem was not apparent (but I haven't noticed the issue with the Blu-Ray source previously, so perhaps that helps rule out the SAT/CATV port).
I also tried attaching the cable box/PVR to the BD port and the problem was still present (as mentioned earlier, mostly present on certain channels).
The software is up to date as of last week (ver. s9327.1074.0).
I also tried powering off and disconnecting everything, then reconnecting and powering everything on in the described order. The issue is still present, regardless of the HDMI input port that I use. As mentioned before, this happens only when I route the SAT/CATV signal through the receiver. When I bypass the receiver, by connecting the cable box/PVR directly to the TV, the audio does not cut out on the usual affected channels.

  • Sony STR-DG500 Receiver

I have had a kid mess up the TV settings on the receiver and the volume is terrible.  The radio volume through the receiver is good, but the TV volume is very low.  I have to play it on max volume most of the time.  I have checked all connections and tried other settings with no luck.  Any ideas on where to start??  Thanks for any help!!

I just installed the 3.0.2 firmware upgrade and I still can't get my Apple TV to transmit HDMI video to my TV via my Sony STR-DH500 receiver. All other components - Blu-Ray player, Scientific Atlanta cable TV converter, and Acer laptop work just fine with the HDMI switch in the tuner.
AppleTv is notoriously fickle with some switches/AV receivers over HDMI.
Question is whether this is due to an over rigorous HDMI implementation by Apple but it would seem odd that other manufacturers just had lax implementations.
Apple TV works when connected directly to the TV, but I really don't want to have to keep swapping HDMI cables.
No, I agree very frustrating. HDMI great when it works!
Have you considered connecting via component to the TV/receiver and analogue or optical audio ?
Is this lack of compatibility due to heavy-handed anti-piracy measures on Apple's part?
Doubt it, it happens with unprotected material presumably too.
Apple TV is the first Apple product I've ever owned, and will likely be the last. There's one good thing about Apple TV: the interface is awesome.
Yes, makes up for lots of other things.
But, I should be able to connect it via an HDMI switch, shouldn't I?
Yes, it's not necessarily AppleTV at fault but when other devices all work it certainly suggests it's the problem.
And Apple won't give me any support over the phone unless I pay $49?!
I wouldn't bother I doubt you'd get anywhere other than being advise to try a different switch or plug into your TV.
Is anyone else having this issue?
Yes, with certain device pairings several posts comment about this.
While some non mainstream brand switches might not be implemented well you'd expect Sony to be ok.
Is there anything else I should try?
    Apart from component no.
Is there a hack that can fix this problem?
    No.

  • Connecting a Sony DVD player to Sony STR-DH750 AV Receiver with RCA cables

I have connected a Sony DVD player with RCA cables to  Sony STR-DH750 AV Receiver at the VIDEO inputs. I get audio, but no video. How do I connect the DVD player to the AV receiver to get both audio and video?

    Hi JB4,
Are you using HDMI cable in addition to your RCA connection? This HDMI cable is from the receiver going to the TV using the HDMI OUT port. Another option, you are using the RCA yellow + red&white right? you may connect the yellow cable directly to your TV if it has yellow port for video.
    Thanks.

  • Connecting my new sony str hd800 to my Samsung LCD.

I want to make sure that HDMI out from the receiver to HDMI in on the TV is the way to hook up my receiver (Sony str dh800) to my Samsung LCD TV (think it is a 52" lcd 650)  I don't remember now but when I tried it (looked at it but didn't connect it) last night I didn't think it looked correct.  If I didn't need to help with the kids I probably would have tried it.  Just want to make sure!  Thanks!

right now I have it connected to the rca audio input on the tv

  • No picture using component connections with Sony STR-DG710 Receiver

I have been unable to get a picture (sound appears to be ok) using component cables to connect to a Sony 710 receiver - the (2) HDMI inputs on the receiver are taken by equipment that can not use component cables. Apple Store checked Apple TV unit and said component outlets were ok. I did barrow one of the HDMI cables to set the system up (1080i resolution was selected). Does anyone have an idea what the problem is?

There may be an easy answer here. It's your receiver - not the apple TV
1080p HDMI Inputs: The Sony receiver features two 1080p HDMI inputs and one 1080p HDMI output. The receiver transmits both audio and video through the HDMI monitor output to your TV or you can choose for the HDMI monitor out terminal to only output video to your television. Video signal that is input through HDMI input can only be output through the HDMI monitor output terminal.
Note: The receiver does not offer video upconversion.
So it looks like if you go HDMI in - you have to go HDMI out (to your TV)
If you go component in - you need to go component out (to your TV)

  • Insignia LED-LCD HDTV Model: NS-32E570A11

I am Handicapped & Disabled & Must be hooked up to medical experiment for 6-7 hours a day & remain in bed & awake during this time.  I purchased this TV :   Insignia  LED-LCD HDTV Model: NS-32E570A11
    after my 7 month old Dynex™ - 32" Class / 720p / 60Hz D/ LCD HDTV DVD Combo
Model:DX-32LD150A11  refused to hold & recognize in it's memory HD channels. Guess I should have read the posts from other Dynex users, cuz there are a lot of problems with Dynex.
Even one of the Managers at my Best Buy store told me that her Dynex same exact TV did the exact same thing.   I am hoping that once repair is done that I will get a  "RA" number so I can get some of my money back on this insignia TV.
I do not See any difference with the Insigna TV & it is not as clear at home as it was in the store.
I have Time Warner cable with extended basic cable & within the last 6 months TWC had installed much larger cables underground & the cable is not the problem.
I did notice that in the store they only had very few channels.   Do they "Tweak" the channels in the store &/or power them differently to get sharper clearer images??
I am ready to take the LED Insignia TV back next time I am in town as it is 26 miles each way to get to the closest store.
I should be able to buy a TV & not have to worry that it is going to die on me. My old  36"Toshiba with a big tube lasted 16+ years.
Any suggestions on "RELIABLE" LCD 32" TV's that I can afford on just my SS income??

Stores do nothing to "tweak" channels in the store. TVs have many dozens of settings that can be changed by a user at home, and sometiems have presets to switch between certain values that the manufacturer has deemed "optimal" for certain viewing situations. If none of the preset settings offer the picture you desire, you will either need to learn how to change the settings to fit your viewing situation, or pay for a professional calibration.
It took me almost 6 months before I got my TV settings the way that I wanted them to be, using the calibration settings on various Disney DVDs, Star Wars DVDs, and special calibration DVDs, and constantly having a critical eye for everything I watched. After all of that time and effort, my TVs are about as close to profesionally calibrated as I can get them.
Have you had Time Warner out to the house to verify that it's not actually a cable problem? Just because they put "bigger cables" in the ground doesn't mean that the signal to your home is any better. Most cable and satellite companies compress their signal quite a bit on HD, and the quality suffers as a result.

  • Insignia LED LCD 42 Picture Fades

We just bought a 42" Insignia LED-LCD tv and we've noticed that the picture darkens itself and brightens again constantly as we are watching tv. We thought it may be a setting we may have turned on or something, but we cant seem to get it to stop. We've turned the Energy Saver option off and its now to custom. Any suggestions? It's really bugging us that we can't figure this out. We had an LCD (not LED) tv before this one and didnt have this problem.
Any help you can provide would be awesome! thanks!

Actually, there IS a setting to automatically adjust the brightness and contrast in the Advanced Video section of the settings.
From page 17 of the manual:
"Advanced Contrast-When you see the pop-up menu, set Adaptive Contrast to On to adjust picture detail and brightness automatically or to set Dynamic Contrast Ratio to On to automatically adjust the contrast between the light and dark areas of the picture."
Check and see if Adaptive Contrast or Dynamic Contrast Ratio are turned on in the Advanced Video-> Advanced Contrast section of the menu. If they're on, turn them off, and see if the problem goes away.

  • Does 40S51U LED TV support HDMI/ARC?

I want to add a soundbar to my recently purchased Toshiba 40" LED TV model 40S51U. Currently have (Uverse) HDMI and blue-ray HDMI connected. From other posts it seems that HDMI quality audio cannot pass through to the TV's optical audio output.
This leaves the option of ARC. I see some Toshiba LED TV's support ARC (HDMI/ARC).
I have tried looking but cannot find anything. Would someone please confirm if my model supports ARC?
    Thanks.

    Note:
Download the user manual. Only HDMI 1 suports ARC.
HDMI’s ARC (Audio Return Channel) feature info is on page 19.

  • ATV and Sony RM-AX4000 Remote

Has anyone been successful using the Sony RM-AX4000 remote with the Apple TV. When I try to get the Sony Remote to learn the Apple remote, I get an error basically that the sony isn't picking up the signal from the apple remote.
Any and all suggestions are appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Scott

If you have your ATV connected to your Sony TV by HDMI cable, check the settings on the TV for that input and make sure it is enabled. If the TV has a DVI connector or component inputs you could connect it with component cables or an HDMI to DVI cable to do the setup and run the audio separately.
You need to run the sync setup from the ATV before your iMac will recognize it. Unfortunately, you can't do that if you're not getting ATV video on your TV.
