Insignia Receiver Use of HDMI-Thru Feature

I have an Insignia home theatre receiver model #ns-r5101ahd-a that I purchased two months ago. I have not been able to figure out how to activate the HDMI thru feature which I assume allows the televison to receive the HDMI signal without the receiver being turned on. Is this accurate and how do I use this feature? Thank you!  Wayne
Solved!
Go to Solution.

go to the Setup Menu -> HDMI Setup; then turn on the CEC Function and make sure the Power Control is on. Then the Pass-thru function works properly in Standby mode. The note about this toward the end of pg. 25 in the User Guide.

  • I would like to connect my Apple TV to my receiver using an HDMI cable and pass thru dolby digital. I do not have optical inputs on my receiver.

I want to connect my Apple TV to my receiver using an HDMI cable. This should allow me to pass thru high definition video and simultaneously decode Dolby Digital material with an HDMI connection from my receiver to my TV without the use of an optical cable (my receiver does not have an optical input). I am unable to decode 5.1 material and don't understand why this is not working. In the audio setting I have Dolby Digital output turned on.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Are you sure the content you are playing has Dolby Digital.

  • Can I convert the optical output to analog for a zone 2 audio? I would continue using the HDMI for the main zone. Can I use both of these simultaneously? Zone 2 only supports analog on this receiver.

Can I convert the optical output to analog via a converter for  zone 2 audio? I would continue using the HDMI for the main zone. Can I use both of these simultaneously? Zone 2 only supports analog on this receiver.

    These will probably help.

The 8 pin Lightning connector can only output 720p and lacks all iPod Out functionality unlike the full iPod Out functionality and 1080p that the 30 pin connector has and I suspect that they are coding iOS 7 specifically for the new devices which have severely reduced abilities and perhaps skipping adding the code needed for 30 pin devices to use their functionality with HDMI, etc.

  • Can I use the HDMI out on a HP ALL IN ONE TOUCHSCREEN Desktop to connect a second monitor with HDMI

Can I use the HDMI out on a HP ALL IN ONE TOUCHSCREEN Desktop to connect a second monitor with HDMI  in without any additional  software or graphics adaptor.  I have a 520-1070
HP - 23" Touch-Screen TouchSmart All-In-One Computer - 8GB Memory - 2TB Hard Drive ? I used a HDMI to HDMI cable and the monitor was not  recognized.

Here are the specs for your HP TouchSmart 520-1070 Desktop Computer. As previously stated your computer Doesn't have a HDMI output, instead it has a HDMI input. This is designed to let you connect a game console, a DVD/Bluray player, etc. to use as a monitor.
If you wish to conect a second monitor to your computer, you will need to use a USB-to-video adapter such as the EVGA UV Plus+ UV39 or EVGA UV Plus+ UV19. Using an adapter like these with the touch feature of your computer may cause issues with pointer control and you may need to disable the touch feature to use "extended desktop".

The receiver has two HDMI  inputs in the back.  However they say they are not for PC's.  Furthermore they must be set up by going to the home menu.    I tried everything, but I can not get the receiver to talk to the Apple TV. I even tried a connector that uses an HDMI to the Apple TV that has the other side of the cable as 5 RCA cables.  I could not get the receiver to see the Apple TV.   I have a newer TV in the house, it has no problem talking with the Apple TV.  But this older system seems to be handicapped in its ability to talk with the newer Apple TV system.

    Do you have any suggestions
    Thanks

I could not access the Apple TV on the television.   If I put the Apple TV directly into by TV, I have an external sound system (entertainment system), therefore I worry that I would by pass the audio.
Thanks for taking your time to attempt to help!   Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Problems using the 'stationery template' feature in mail

I have used the stationery templates feature in mail without any problems in the past. Now when i send a stationery template, like a photo template, the email is unreadable for the people receiving my emails (both Mac & PC). Sometimes the email looks like a Picasso painting or the receiver gets a bunch of attachments as if the email came in a bunch of separate files. Could this be possible due to the upgrade to 10.6 from 10.5? Or am i doing something wrong? Is there a separate upgrade for this?
    thanks

  • Apple TV, My Receiver, and Potential HDMI Issues...?

    Hey all
Okay, I'm about to bite the bullet and snag myself an Apple TV, but I have a couple of wicked-fast questions that I think I know the answers to — but I'd like confirmation.
    1. If I get an Apple TV, I want to run it through my main receiver, so my plan would be to connect the ATV HDMI to my receiver like all my other components (my Onkyo has a single HDMI out, BTW). This will treat the ATV like all my other components as far as sound through my mains, etc.
Am I correct to assume this will work? Apple's docs seem to want you to connect directly to your TV...
    2. I have heard that upon upgrading to the v3 software that was just released, some people are having issues with the ATV recognizing when the receiver has switched to it, making an ATV restart necessary. Anyone having that problem? I feel it may be because these people are using legacy receivers...?
    THANKS!
    Maury

The problem is that the tv currently meets the HDMI standard too.
    So it's a little more complicated than just being tested to receive certification.{quote}
Which must mean software / firmware. I also have 2 other devices passed through my receiver, connected by HDMI, without issue. Nothing on my set-up, software or hardware wise (both box and cable), has changed for about 2 years except for the various Apple TV updates. No problems with v1 or v2, yet v3.....

  • Hi there, can anyone tell me how to make make Garageband ignore HDMI as an audio output-device on a 2013 Mac Mini? Now it keeps on prompting me: Do you want want to use the HDMI device (monitor without audio) for audio output? Thanks in advance, Grtz T.

    Hi there,
Can anyone tell me how to make make Garageband ignore HDMI as an audio output-device on a 2013 Mac mini i7 using an Apogee jam as an input for bass and a Behringer USB DAC with RCA audio output? Now it keeps on prompting me: Do you want want to use the HDMI device (monitor without audio) for audio output? I'm also suffering massive audio lag issues with the Apogee jam after waking the mini from sleepmode, wich pretty much renders it useless.
    Thanks in advance,
    Grtz T.

I think the easiest way to do this is to have the EyeTV app running in one user account and sent via HDMI to the TV, and use a separate user account for Screen Sharing. Both logins can be active at the same time and with Lion you can connect via screen sharing to which ever login you need.
With regards to the Mac video resolution changing, when it is not the current input on your AV receiver. This is 'normal', if the Mac sees no signal it drops down the a lower level. What you need is to buy a HDMI Detective Plus which tricks the Mac in to always seeing a signal and hence it will not drop down the resolution. See http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=8005
The Mac mini does have an IR receiver. This can be used with the EyeTV app, iTunes, and similar. Yes I believe EyeTV would run for prolonged periods quite happily, it is has been around for a long time and had most of the rough edges polished off. However one issue you will have to deal with is that it does not automatically update its program guide data. For this you might have to write or modify an AppleScript. Elgato support or their user forums will be a lot of help.
You can set EyeTV to convert recordings to an iTunes (Apple TV) compatible format and then delete them from EyeTV.
The HDMI Detective should solve your handshaking problems.

  • Using thunderbolt HDMI as video IN???

    hi,
can i use my HDMI connector via thunderbolt as a video in, eg for monitoring my video cam thru its HDMI video out on my MBP screen? any ideas?
    thx!

ThunderBolt is a direct connection to the logicboard's PCI Express slot... which is basically the same port that a video card would connect to on a PC. Even though desktop video cards and many notebooks have HDMI connectors, they are not simply connectors that work both ways. The throughput is only part of the equation. The video card outputs through the HDMI connector. There is no circuitry within the video card to accept, process, and display an incoming video signal. However, there are currently USB devices that will accept video input ( http://www.elgato.com/ ). If video can be streamed over relatively slow USB 2.0 speeds, there is no reason a company can't come out with a ThunderBolt device to do the same thing. So, it is "possible"... but whether or not anyone actually does it remains to be seen. ThunderBolt has a lot of potential. Fortunately with Apple including the technology in all of their new machines, they have created a market for devices that take advantage of it. I expect we'll be seeing any number of high speed video capture devices in the next few years.

  • My mac won't recognize an external monitor. The screen Goes Blue Once, then goes blue again and the second monitor just turns off. I am using an HDMI adapter to a visio TV. I also have my xbox on the tv. Can anyone Help??

Lol, figured out the first part. Just for those who may be searching, when you click on the Display Preferences, and click on the arraingment tab... it not only shows where your two screens will be displayed, but the WHITE BAR at the top of one screen is the dock/toolbar. Click and hold to grab this and just slide it over to the screen you'd like it to be on.
You have to release it IN the screen box, not on top of it... and it should pop right over to the new (or old) screen. At any rate, you can put the dock on either (or any) screen that you prefer.
I am thinking of ordering more of these. Lol. 3 monitor setup seems like it would be crazy good.
Still looking for the answer to keeping the new 16" screen on the right without switching between screen #s with that... not expose... Lion feature.
Thanks. Hope my other question has an answer out here.

  • Hi apple tv if I use my TV's DVI, but I use an HDMI-DVI converter

hi apple tv if I use my TV's DVI, but I use an HDMI-DVI converter

The TV you are using only has DVI, correct? Only HDMI is supported, there is no guarantee a converter will work and you will not be able to view iTunes, Netflix (or similar) content if your TV is not HDCP compliant.
The optical cable is for the sound (and if your receiver doesn't accept optical you would need a DAC) but is a non-issue if your TV can't accept the video.

I am trying to connect my Apple TV to an older Panasonic projection TV using an HDMI to a DVI cable to the Digital IN. I cannot get any sound. Can you help?

DVI interface does't allow audio. Is there optical IN from your Panasonic TV? By then you can connect your ATV to Panasonic using optical together. It will work.

Can I connect my Apple TV to the Blu-Ray using an HDMI/ USB adapter?
If you can find such a thing.  I really doubt that exists since USB is a data connector not a video connector.
would allow me to run the audio through my stereo.
That would depend on this adapter.

It is connected to my AVR using HDMI1 port.
