Insignia tv and sony dvd/vcr

I purchashed an Insignia tv and I have a sony dvd/vcr, the tv came with a cable with 5 connectors.  I got the dvd to work but the vcr will not, do you think that it is not hooked up right or that maybe I need the cable with the red, yellow and white connectors only?  Any suggestions?

My dvd/vcr combo even though its one unit  it still requires 2 separate connections.  One for the dvd player and one for the VCR.  The dvd player is hooked up through component outputs and inputs (blue, red and green plus red and white audio or a digital optical or coaxial connection.  The vcr is hooked up through composite or the yellow connection and audio through red and white.

  • Duplicating DVDs from Sony DVD/VCR combo

Please forgive a question that actually has nothing to do with DVD Studio Pro. (I DO own it, though!) I just figured you guys would know a lot.
I have a Sony DVD/VCR combo unit. I've created a DVD on the unit with footage from my MiniDV camcorder. The disc burned just fine and plays on my Mac. But I can't use Disc Utility to duplicate the DVD as I am used to doing. I get an "input/output error" message when I try to create a New Image from the disc. I don't see how copy protection could factor in; I made the disc myself, and it's all my own footage shot on MiniDV.
Any thoughts? Or workarounds? I'd like to avoid recreating the entire 2-hour DVD by digitizing straight to my Mac if at all possible.

Toast will do it very easily, but you might want to try this one. I haven't used it, but it looks promising.

  • Clarification using Elements 7 and Sony DVD architect please ..

    Hello all,
I am close to finishing my 2nd set of "How To" instructional DVD's.
I have been reviewing the required steps in order to create a menu with "Sony DVD Architect."
I see in a past discussion that it was mentioned to:
“ .. Export [your Elements project] as an MPEG2 file without DVD markers, then adding the DVD markers and menu in either NERO or Sony DVD Architect Studio .. Note if you export MPEG2 you need to use the smart-rendering in the applications to ensure your video isn't re-rendered ... resulting in a slight quality hit.”
Is this still a good way to do this?  Would it be better/worse to export the Premiere Elements
project as an ".avi" file and pull that ".avi" file into Sony DVD Architect?  Then, render with Sony DVD Architect?
    Thanks!
    --Tom Nickel

    Steve,
Thank you very much for your prompt reply!
Yes, I wasn't concered about markers, I figured that I'd create all of that in DVD Architect.
But, you've raised an issue that I had not thought about!
My DVD will be about 1 hour, 25 minutes.
Of course, I did expect a small loss in quality as some compression will be required in order for the material to fit on a standard DVD.
So, where sould the compression be done?  I know that Elements will compress down to whatever length is necessary
(To render, a selection something to the order of: "fit contents to disk").
Even if I "pre-compress" in Elements to fit on a standard DVD will DVD Architect re-compress the program material?
    Thanks again,

  • Connecting 30MB photo iPod to either DVD/VCR or CATV converter.

My intention is to watch a slideshow that is on my ipod on TV. I cannot connect an AV cable to the TV itself because it is too old and has no ports. Can I use either the GO Video DVD/VCR or the CATV converter? From the source, the cable goes first to the converter. From the converter it goes to the DVD/VCR, and from the DVD/VCR to the TV. The CATV converter has an input aux yellow, red and white. The DVD/VCR does also. Neither has an S-video in, only an out. I have not purchased any equipment until I determine if my slightly antiquated system will work at all or if I need to get a whole new TV. Can anyone help? Many thanks, Hilary

I work for a cable company. I know we have about 5 different cable boxes and all of them have one thing in common- the inputs are turned off. That might not be the case where you live, but still, let's look at your other option. I would plug it into the DVD/VCR. Those inputs will work fine. You'll have to figure out how to display that input. Usually, and this is just an example, your TV will need to be on channel three and your DVD/VCR player will need to be on input 1. Some DVD/VCR's will need to be on channel 4. This is usually a little switch on the back of the VCR. I'd just keep it on what ever it is on. Now, about the input 1. That can be called a lot of different things. It can be AUX input, could just be on channel 00, or, of course input 1. So, first you need to know what channel the TV needs to be on. Then, find your input. Finally, you need a cord. The easy way to go here is to buy the Apple ipod AV cord. If you don't and you end up buying a 1/8 to AV input cord, you'll have to fiddle with where the inputs go. What I mean is that it won't be color coded. The yellow won't go in yellow, red not in red, and white not in white. Don't let this freak you out- it's pretty easy to figure out the colors. That cord would be around $10-15 and the Apple cords is $20, but with that one, you'll plug it right in and not have to play games. I threw a lot at you and I hope it helps.

  • Sony DVD Burner and 350 mhz AGP not being recognised by iTunes

I managed to get a Sony DVD Burner for my friends Powermac g4 AGP, the sales assistant sais it would be comatible for macs....it installed fine and wa sable to read dvd's perfectly, when my friend went to burn a CD from iTunes it would not work as it seems the drive is not supported. I have tried finidng some drivers all over the sony website for it but to no avail. I don't suppose anyone has any experience with this brand of burner? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

As I recall, Sony's internal DVD burners are made by Lite-On, but as far as the G4 is concerned - the drive's firmware indicates a Sony product. A compatibilty problem for burning a disk occurs, when the CD/DVD drive is newer than the supporting profiles for Apple's Disk Burner software. Have you checked into "PatchBurn?" Other than that, your friend could purchase Roxio's "Toast," which has more user settings than Apple's software.

  • Importing and Using Video from Sony DVD Camcorders

I have a Sony DVD Camcorder (DCR-DVD 92) and I have recently shot a lot of footage which is now on my computer. The file extensions are .BUP, .IFO, and .VOB. I am able to import some of the files into final cut but they are shortened to only a few seconds each when in reality, they were shot for several minutes. Is there a way to make these work or to convert the files so they can be edited in Final Cut Pro 5?

    mrescobar 1 1,
You should find that GreatVideo! v1.7 for Mac OS X - 10.4', by Software Architects, Inc., solves your problem. Converts from Sony to Mac readable format.

  • SONY DVD-RW DW-U10A not reading SOME DVDs, reads ALL CDs and other DVDs

I have a SONY DVD-RW DW-U10A. It reads and writes all CDs, and reads commercial DVDs, like movies. HOWEVER, I am trying to install a new application (Halion Symphony Orchestra) and it won't read the Install DVD, nor will it read an old Data DVD it used to read ALL the time.... is there new firmware after the 2005 update they did? I REALLY don't want to have to replace. I seriously doubt it needs cleaning since the DVDs/CDs it reads are so specific, and I don't really think it needs replacement for the same reason. What's going on?

Is your problem with a Mac Pro, or a MacBook? Your profile says Mac Pro, yet you posted to the MacBook forum.

  • I burned an edited movie to disc using H.264 codec and a second movie to MPEG -4 Video both worked well on my iMac but will not play on my Sony DVD Recorder/Player which accepts both DVD RW and DVD-RW.  Any suggestions?

I burned an edited movie to disc using H.264 codec and a second movie using MPEG-4 Video.  Both played well on my iMac but would not play on my Sony DVD Recorder/Player which accepts both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs.  I have tried other 'codecs' DV-PAL; DVCPRO-PAL; DVCPRO50-PAL; AIC; and finally share to iDVD.  iDVD works on both my iMac and DVD Recorder but the picture is very poor with major shimmering which is unwatchable.  Can anyone assist? The other codecs I used either do not pay on my video recorder or fail when I play them back on my iMac.  I am at a loss as to what I can do.  I am from the UK so using PAL is essential.

If the source video is interlaced, you may have problems using iMovie. It de-interlaces everything on output which can cause picture to look strange.  Final Cut Pro X supports interlaced video, but it costs a lot more.
Standard DVD Players don't support H.264 or MPEG4.  You might want to look at this article on transferring HD video to DVD.  I wrote this article mainly for Final Cut Pro, but many of the same principles apply.

  • SONY DVD-R (color collection) and DR8-A does not recognise

Not sure if anyone else has had this problem, but I thought I saw a mention of it in another thread. The Sony DVD-R media does not seem to recognise in the DR8-A drive. I thought my drive was malfunctioning, but other DVD-R media works just fine.  This is the color collection 5 pack of DVD-Rs (the only thing colored is the top of the DVD though). These are 1x-4x rated DVD-Rs, is this a problem with all DR8-A drives, or just mine?
    -Adam

I understand that some media may suffer issues, and that other manufacturs' drives may as well. However, if this an issue plauging the DR8-A it would behoove MSI to address it since Sony is a pretty recognised name brand producer of DVD-R media.
    Anyone else had these fail?

  • Error message when burning to Sony DVD-r discs

Just bought 200 Sony DVD-R printable discs from Costco, and I am trying to burn a 15 minute short film in DVD studio pro. The DVD just spins in Formatting and I get this message:The recording device reported the media error: Unknown device error.
I have burned this same film many times with my Nexxtech DVD's and it works fine, but the Sony discs don't seem to work. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

Try burning at the lowest possible speed (probably DVDx2) and see if they work.

  • Premiere CC 2014.1 Blu-ray MPEG 2 export causing error in Sony DVD Architect Pro

I've filed a Bug Report for this but wanted to post here in case it helps anyone else or on the off chance someone can give me a solution / better work around.
Something has changed in the results of a Blu-ray MPEG2 export from Premiere 2014.1 vs those of the previous CC version. The result is that my authoring software of choice, Sony DVD Architect Pro, fails to prepare a disc image giving an error in the final stage of preparation. This workflow has been working fine for 2-3 years.
My work around is to export to original format (mxf / XDCAM EX HQ) and then go back to Media Encoder CC rather than 2014 to produce the Blu-ray MPEG2 file, which works without problem.
Here's a copy paste of my bug report in case anyone with a similar setup has an opportunity to replicate (I'd be very grateful to anyone able to confirm whether its a bug or something specific to me that I might be able to fix).
    ******BUG******
Export from Premiere 2014.1 directly or via Media Encoder of MPEG 2 1080 50i Blu-ray files causes error in preparation of Blu-ray disc in Sony DVD Architect 5.2.
This error does not occur when using the same Media Encode export preset in the previous version of Premiere Pro CC / Media Encoder.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Export Sequence from Premiere
Export, in my case XDCAMEX 1080i HQ, using a media encoder MPEG 2 Blu-ray preset:
    Preset Name: HD 1080i 25
    Format: MPEG2 Blu-ray
    Bitrate Settings: Medium (Target 25Mbps)
    2. Create DVD Architect 5.2 project
Set up as single movie Blu-ray project in DVD Architect:
    Disc format: Blu-ray Disc
    Resolution: 1920*1080
    Framerate: 35 interlaced
Choose the file exported from Premiere
    3 Prepare Disc
    - Select Make Blu-ray Disc
    - Click Prepare
    - Choose Location of iso
    - click next then finish
    Result
Around 50% - 60% through the process the following error is displayed:
An error occurred while preparing compilation
    Details:
    File name: STREAM/00000.m2ts
Status: TSWrapper.dll::CTSWrapper::ProcThreadMain::Failed to read ES file. - The ES file may be shorter than the size described in the MUI file.
    Expected results:
A shiny ISO ready to be burnt to disc and sent sent to eager customers.
Its taken me a full day and a half to isolate problem - someone remind me why I fall for the software updates every time?!
    Cheers
    Iain

There is a known bug in the H.264-Bluray export. I assume it has nothing to do with your issue, but perhaps it will give you something to consider.
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/6848505#6848505
It appears due to a malformed xmpses file. It creates a problem on import into Encore, and I think it should do the same upon import into Architect or it would be ignored entirely. The test is to delete the xmpses file and see if that avoids the issue.

  • MacBook to DVD/VCR Combo to TV

    Hey All,
I have the white MacBook 13" purchased in Oct 08. I have a newer DVD/VCR Combo unit that is hooked into my HDTV via HDMI to, I think, DVI. (I'm at work right now). Anyway, my question is, can I run the mini-DVI to the DVD/VCR Combo into the TV with the mini-DVI to HDMI cable? Or will I lose valuable signal and video? Should I connect directly to the TV?
The TV is a Mitsubishi HDTV ready 1080i widescreen 55 in, projection. I think it is from the 2004 era. I bought it used and it didn't have a manual.
    Thanks for any help!

There should be no signal lost from the VCR to the TV. That will just be a digital pass-through.

  • DVD's not working on Sony dvd player

I just bought some TDK DVD-R 16x. I burned a DVD with my iMac G4 in iDVD. I tried to play it in my Sony DVD player and it said it was was not allowed because there were limitations or something. Can I fix this or do I need new DVDs??

Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the
    DVD. File/Save as Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may
encounter. Once the disc image is created,
double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that
should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn
the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually,
you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which
    OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in
Applications folder), click on the virtual disc
(maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the
Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your
SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn
icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R
preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait.
Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor
over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to
work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower
for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to
click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This
may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk
to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD.
Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD
Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and
open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio
    disks.)

I'm reading through the forums trying to figure why I am not able to play a DVD burned in iDVD that is "R", but the "RW" ones work fine.
Your post is very helpful and I've looked at the links suggested too. I just want to make sure I'm understanding. I've copied the movie to my hard drive using iMovie and then created an iDVD project. I then need to use either Disk Utility or Toast to make the DVD. I do not need to use the "burn" feature in iDVD. Is that correct?
I would appreciate any other suggestions. Maybe there is something else in the settings or preferences I need to adjust.
    Thanks so much.
