Inspire 6700 Whooshing/Popping/Distorted Sound..

Just bought some Inspire 6700 speakers via eBay..... Also an Audigy Platinum EX card.. Anyways... The sound is awful, constant popping sound even when there is nothing being played (CD/DVD/etc..) When I am trying to play something, the sound is very low, distorted, the popping gets worse and just occassionaly will BURST into life momentarilly.. before going back to it's previous dire performance. Can't be certain, but I think the volume control is broken? Only seems to produce any acceptable sound at about level 4, but even that is marginal/breaks up. Either side of 4 you get almost nothing. The LED on the volume control flickers on and off constantly. I've hooked up my original stereo speakers and they are fine.. no distortion etc. Clues please?
Edit - Disconnected the 6700 from the Audigy sound card and I STILL get the popping and whooshing sounds....Peter

Hi Cat
Happy to contact support, but given these are refurb speakers purchased via eBay, are support likely to be that interested? Great if they are.... What's best contact method if you think they may be able to help me? (E-mail/phone)

  • Inspire 6700 - NO SOUND

    Hi All
I have a creative soundblaster audigy 2 ZS and have just purchased some Inspire 6700 6.1 speakers. I have plugged in all the cables as directed and can not get ANY sound through the speakers at all.
I used to run sound through the AUX of my hhome stereo and this will work fine with my audigy 2, but the 6.1's won't do a **bleep** thing - any recomendatins ?
    Thanks
    Dave

Yep - the headphones work well in the green socket on the card (line ).
Is there any way to test the other to sockets which are used by the speaker system ?
The remote light is green so i'm guessing it has power, but this morning i could hear no click when i powered the unit up like i could yesterday

  • Inspire P7800 Headphone mic is getting speaker feedback which distorts sound

My P7800 works fine my problem is in a game I get distorted sound from speaker feedback to the mic. Any solution?

    Heh,
Well one of the reasons I bought the speakers was because my friend gave me a copy of FarCry he got bundled with something he bought. But now FarCry wont install heh, so I can't test it on that. I am trying to think of other games I have that use surround..hmm maybe HL2 does. I will do some more testing and wait a couple days to see what you guys think. If worst comes to it I will just buy a soundcard aimed at 7.1 .
    Thanks for responding jimby

  • [TV@Master] Distorted sound despite clean install of XPPro

Hi, an old problem popped up, reinstalled my MEGA651 installed the latest drivers for my 8086 card and MSIPVS. just like when the early betas were out i had distorted sound, but that was corrected with a later beta, now i have it with the official version. all settings are as low as possible but it does not help. recorded video just "screams". anyone had this problem? how can i fix it?

yeah i know what you are going thru i've got the same problem,
i use my pc to record tv-shows and watcht them on my tv
but because it's so quit i've got to turn the volume high,
so if i forget that and watch tv its very loud
anybody got an idea how to boost the volume ?

  • Distorted sound in CQ-45 137tx

Hi there, hear some distorted noise while playing music or videos in my laptop. This sound prevails in both Vista Home Basic x86 ( Previous os) and Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (Current OS). The sound comes in both the speakers and the headphones. I have updated the audio drivers (i.e latest driver from hp, and updated using windows optional updates)
I kindly request you to give me a solution for this! Thank you in Advance. Prompt reply awaited!

    Hi there,
As per boosting your bass try this method listed here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/5668647-post3614.html
Its for a different HP model but its practically the same..
Also in addition to above try going into IDT Audio Control Panel and making sure all the  volume sliders including for headphones are on max
Regarding disabling power management, thats very interesting it might be the solution to the problem.. it might if it somehow lowers your speaker power during playback, please let me know if this fixes it as I have the same issue of distorted audio though doing some steps ilke above have decreased how occasional it is..I'll try it too i guess hehe
The only downside I see is well it'll certainly drain more battery power as audio will now use as much power I guess needed to play music etc.
Update: On my power management i have both Basic Power Management and Advanced Power Management however I didn't access it though any customize tab (I didn't see one?), i accessed it through IDT Audio Control Panel -> Preferences tab up top -> On the left Settings then underneath it General. Also for description under Advanced Power Management it states "Notice: PC Beep will be disabled while this feature is in use. Small but audible clicks and pops may be present while this feature is in use" meaning this could be the culprit for your distorted sound
Say thanks by clicking the "Kudos! Star" which is on the left.

  • Alternative/Punk/Pop Rock Sound

I've had my mac for a few months and have played around with Garageband since that time. I've been able to hook up my electric guitar and play around with some different sounds as I've been looking to record some music. I was wondering what are some good settings/effects that I should look at to get a good alternative and punk/pop rock sound (i.e. bands like Yellowcard, Sum 41, The Dangerous Summer, The Forecast)? I've tried playing around with the punk rock amps and different distortion effects, but they all seem to me to be very 80's metal. I'm also an inexperienced guitarist as I'm self-taught and have only been playing for a few years, so I am probably just missing something. Thanks in advance.

its maily the horrible tinny snare sound .... the snare to me is the most important sound of all. it dictates the flavour of the music. The tinny sound kills the song.
The rest of the sounds are O.K.

Hey, that sounds familiar! Now where have I read that before? Oh yes, in your other spam posts!

  • Inspire 6700 failed = Solution (maybe)

I am referring to this thread:
    http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/forums/thread.asp?thre=53306
I had the same problem. Suddenly no speaker worked anymore. I started the Creative Diagnostics program and it said everything was okay. I both tested the speakers in WinXP and Win98. No sound. 2 days later there suddenly was sound again. I wanted to know the reason. Then I opened the amplifier of the Inspire 6700 and my brother examined it. He couldn't see any problems. I reconnected the Inspire 6700 to my PC and again there was no sound. Then I looked into the Diagnostics program again and saw "Mixer settings: failed". Then I clicked on "correct problem" and suddenly there was sound again.
All this is very weird because at first the Creative Diagnostics hadn't found a problem and now I could fix everything by running it again. Also it's weird the speakers hadn't worked both in Win98 and WinXP although it seems to be a software problem (mixer settings). On the other hand it looks like a hardware problem (sound worked and then again it didn't work). I don't know!
I hope this could help someone.

    Red_Wraith,
Can you try a pair of earphone and test it on the sound card. Likewise, test the speaker using another device like MP3 player or computer. Just disconnect the green cable you connect to the sound card and plug that into the MP3 player headphone jack. See if you get sound from the front speaker.

  • Creative Inspire 6700 Failed

This is a continuation of the post that is now in the read-only forums.
David Drury - Having contact the Creative support they have finally informed that that in March I MIGHT be able to buy a replacement board for my broken 6700 which just stopped working one day, for 60 euros. That's what it would cost to buy a new system from the link that appears below.
    Here is Creative's direct repsonse:
"at present we have no out of warranty repair option which would allow me to sell you a subwoofer. This however should be possible in March although I can't guarantee it. In the past subwoofers have cost in the region of EUR60."
I am very disappointed Creative. This is not an isolated incident and that fact that my product is out of warranty seems irrelevant. It is no longer fit for the purpose for which it was designed. Given the number of compaints about this system on this and the read-only forum I would have expected a repair FOC.
I shall not be buying another of these systems and my impression of Creative has totally changed as a result of this incident.

The remote no longer lights up and the only time i get the slightest hint of sound is when I remove the transformer power lead and plug it back in. It's like the surge brings the amp back to life for a breaf second, turn the level up and it gets quieter? It was working fine the day before but today no play.Any suggestions, can I buy just a replacement box if the amp has gone, and what is the warranty on these? Thanks in advance

I have tested the remote volume/bass control on a friend's system and it works so it's something to do with the electronics on the board inside the bass speaker cabinet. I have taken this apart (my system's out of warranty) and can find nothing that look's wrong. I'm sure that a single component has broken and am loathed to buy a new system as all of the speakers, etc work. Can anybody suggest anything.

When I plug it in nothing happens. I took out the amplifier board and found that a transistor was blown, and that it had taken a resistor with it. I've managed to get the transistor details, but the resistor is a charred heap. I was hoping that someone could either provide me with a circuit diagram so that I can identify the value of resistor R0, or if you could tell me what the value should be.Any extreme close ups of the circuitboard would be sufficient for me to get the colours of the resistor.cheersSimon

I have the Inspire 7700 and my subwoofer just stopped working as well. Right in the middle of a song. The volume was only half way on the remote. Everything else works fine. Guess I'll have to buy a different brand too since mine is out of warranty I think.

  • Messy 'pixalated' distorted sound from multiple interfaces

I was just about to send my Apogee Symphony card and Apogee Rosetta 800 back to Apogee to repair because I have been getting this really nasty distortion sound across all audio coming out of the computer, even in iTunes or whatever. If I turn the unit off and back on again, it will work clearly for 10 or 20 minutes, then it just clicks into this distorted sound. So... I've been using an M-Audio FireWire 410 for the past couple of weeks without incident, and then the other day, it made a small 'pop' noise, and started playing that same distorted playback. If I turn this unit off and back on again, it will play fine for a couple of days, but it has been 'popping' and then playing back distorted off and on. Does anyone have any suggestions? I know this isn't Logic specific, but I'm in Australia, and sending stuff to California for unnecessary repairs will get costly. Thanks in Advance.

thanks for the help... I was using both interfaces together for about 6 months, with no issue, and the clocking was set for the apogee to be the main clock and the M-audio box to sync to it. I have tried using just the apogee box and clocking to its own clock but the problem persists.. could be the update.. when I left the U.S. 2 months ago, all was good, as soon as I hooked the gear back together in Australia I started getting this problem.. I'm sure I just installed the OSX update with the auto installer function. any other suggestions now that you know a little more?
    thanks again, you guys rock.

  • Distorted sounds in Windows 7 32 bit

    Hi...
I re-installed my system with (Dutch) Windows 7 32 bit and used the "Vista" driver CD for my SB X-fi Music card.
When I play MP3 or WAV files, the quality is reasonable, however, some sounds, specially vocals, are damped by the bass-tones.
When I play a CD in my Plextor 80SA dvd drive, I get a very distorted sound.
Doesn't matter if it is a burned CD or a original CD from the music store.
I think that the output from my DVD dri've is to high, but I don't know where I can change the output level.
Also tried the latest updated drivers for the X-fi card, but that has no change in the sounds, cd's are still distorted and basstones in MP3 and WAV damp the vocals and other instruments.
Don't know what to do...please, someone with advise?
    Grtz.

Using earphones, the same thing happens, the bass tones dampen other sounds.
I tested the speakers with the Creative Diagnostics application and there seems to be nothing wrong with them, even when I pump up the volume to 80 or 90% of the max volume there is no distortion at all in the speaker system.
I have ripped a CD and played the saved MP3 or WAV?files, they do the same as downloaded MP3 WAV files, bass tones dampen the other sounds. Sometimes the first two or three songs played, are all fine but then it slowly starts to happen... In other occasions, it happens immedaitely.
I have two identical dvd drives in my system (running on Windows 7 Ultimate) and used the second (hardly used) spare drive, also a Plextor 80SA, to play a legal bought CD and this one gives distorted sounds too! Volume doen't matter, by the way, distortion is also present on low volumes.
I must add to this that, when I was running Windows XP Professional with SP3 on my system, none of the above happened... It all started after re-installing my system with Windows 7 Ultimate.

  • Distorted sound on iMac with Windows 7

    Hi,
I've just upgraded from Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Home Premium.
Before the sound worked perfect, but now it is very distorted.
When I mute windows I can still hear sound - it is just a bit more distorted and at a bit lower volume.
I tried to upgrade the sound card driver from Realtek, but lost sound completely. I reinstalled the Apple driver and now I have distorted sound again.
I'm running Boot Camp 3.1 drivers.
Does any one know how to solve this problem?
    /Tejs

Can you find out which drivers you currently have for me please.
go to Start >> right click Computer >> System Properties >> System >> Device Manager
Now open up the sound, video and game controllers section and there should be something correlating to your sound driver here, if you could give me the name or the driver name if possible.
also what iMac model are you running.

  • External DVD to Inspire 6700

    Hi!
I'm just wondering if there is a way to connect the 5.1 outputs on my DVD player to my Inspire 6700 speakers? The rear centre wouldn't be used, I know, but is it possible to connect the rest?
Also, am I right in thinking, having read threads until my head has started spinning, that by connecting the optical out on my DVD player to optical in on my Audidy 2 Platinum will only result in left and right audio?
Thank you for any help. I'm off to stop my head spinning now!
    Paul

Thank you for the reply but to be honest, I'm not sure if what you're saying is correct. My DVD player does indeed have six speaker output sockets but don't forget that the Inspire 6700 speaker only have three inputs which are front (l/r), rear (l/r) and centre (c/rc/sub). My DVD player has built-in decoders.
As for the optical part of the question, I'm pretty sure you only get left and right audio. Can anyone corroborate this?

  • Inspire 6700 DVD connection

I have a set of Inspire 6700 speakers connected to my present DVD player. The DVD player has six phono outputs: L, R, RL, RR, Ctr, Sub. I've used phono to 3.5mm converters to connect these into the three input sockets on the 6700 system. I am now looking at getting a DVD recorder, but this doesn't have six phono outputs: it has only 2 for L&R. It does, though, have an optical output. Is there a way to convert this output into the required three 3.5mm connectors required for input to the 6700?Gary

Jason, Thanks for this - it looks like it would do exactly what I want. However, I'm in the UK and all the stores I've tried list it as discontinued. I've tried searching with Google and even looking on eBay, but can't find one anywhere. Do you know if there is a replacement model available?Cheers, Gary
