Inspiron 1520: memory card reader doesn't work in Windows 8

I upgraded my daughters Inspiron 1520 to Windows 8 and everything works well. The only problem we are having is the memory card reader does not work. Windows 8 recognizes it and shows the action center flag and advises us to install a new driver.. We install the driver R188776.exe, install it, and re-boot, but the memory card reader still doesn't work.. Is there another driver we can install?

Did you ever get this problem figured out? I had two hardware devices indicating problems when installing windows 8 on my 1520. It asked if I wanted to use it since I already had a newer driver in installed and I did it anyways. No more flags in device manager. Hope it helps.

SD Card Reader Doesn't Work After Windows 10 Upgrade

I recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 and since then am unable to download pictures to my laptop (something I need and do all the time). My computer doesn't even recognize that I've put an SD card into it - no noise, no pop-ups, nothing. I also tried to plug my camera directly into the computer and go that route, but it won't work that way either. The SD card in the camera definitely has pictures on it, but it says the "folder is empty." This is a function that I love, need, and greatly miss. Tecra M2 - Card reader doesn't work on Windows 7

Hi All
I've installed Win 7 on my TECRA M2 and everything worked fine at once ... except for one thing! The SD card reader is not recognized (worked well with XP).
Any hint please ?

Tecra M2 is very old notebook model and it won't be Win7 supported.
In my opinion you should be happy that Win7 works well on this old notebook model. I cannot imagine card reader is so important and you cannot live without it.
Card reader is specific hardware component and, as you probably know, limited with reading SD cards with different capacities.
Maybe it sounds pessimistic now but I don't believe you will be able to find some "independent" driver for it.

Cac card reader doesn't work on my mac now

My Memory Card Reader is not Working...

I was Purchased LENOVO 3000 N200 notebook last month. All devices and working properly. But my MEMORY CARD READER (5 in 1) is not working. I was downloaded drivers and installed in my laptop, but when i'm inserting memory card in to slot it is not showing any message in my laptop. But Green LED is blinking.

Although the best way to read your memory card, memory card readers can be a pain. I've had a few I've just thrown out. Make sure the USB connection to the port is fully seated. Make sure the memory card is fully seated in the reader. Do you have an SD card because the reader in the iMac is by far the most reliable I've used.

As you can see, the notebook is able to read max 2GB SD card.
The card reader will not read bigger SD cards.

Adobe Reader doesn't work after windows 7 update

Hello,
My Adobe Reader X was working fine, until one night where Windows 7 automatically updated, and after that Adobe Reader doesn't work anymore. It doesn't respond AT ALL when I click on it, and I cannot view PDF files anymore.
I uninstalled it, and re-installed it --- still doesn't work. I tried downloading version 9, but still it doesn't work.
I also tried to do system restore, but somehow it won't let me --- it says it failed to do so.
When I try to open PDF files in IE 10, it says "There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader..." and an error code of 103:103.
Could anyone help me?

Macbook Pro SD Card reader doesn't work

Hey all. A few weeks ago I plugged in my SD card like I've always done, but my SD reader didn't work. I've tried SMC reset and PRAM reset. Nothing works. The SD reader doesn't show up in apple system profiler nor in Disc Utility. I've tried different SD cards.
What can be done?

My OS is WinXPSP2, all necessary drivers was installed including for Card reader controller. But when I insert SD card into my laptop, nothing changes. In Device manager "Secure Digital Storage Device" marked with "!".

Can you try to install the notebook with the recovery disk? This would be important because so can be sure that all functions will work.
If doesnt work it seems like a faulty hardware or lets say a faulty card reader but try the recovery disk first.

HP Envy Touchsmart 15-J104sa Memory Card Reader not working

I took delivery of an HP Envy Touchsmart 15-J104sa running Windows 8.1 this week and the internal memory card reader isn't working. It doesn't recognise any SD cards (I've tried more than one) and continues as if nothing has been inserted; showing no error messages. All of the cards work on my previous HP laptop. The only way to get the laptop to show an inserted SD card is to run the driver update software (http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63001-63500/sp63415.exe) every time an SD card is inserted; this must be done with the card in the reader. If the software is run and then the card is inserted nothing happens. If the card is ejected and then re-inserted (or a new card inserted) it isn't recognised and the process has to be restarted and the driver reinstalled even though nothing has changed.
Can somebody please help me with this issue or I will have to return the laptop to HP. I do a lot of photography so being able to read an SD card quickly and reliably is extremely important for me; it's not a problem I expected from a brand new laptop straight out of the box.

Unfortunately non of the driver updates solved the problem but a BIOS update through the HP Support application seems to have remedied the issue. Whilst I appreciate there were no specific drivers available I find it hard to accept that HP should be able to release a model where they know the hardware will not be fully supported by the OS and in this case not function.

HP Pavilion Elite e9280t Desktop - Memory Card Reader Stopped Working

         I have a HP Pavilion Elite e9280t CTO Desktop PC ... The memory card reader recently stopped working. I believe, maybe the firmware, and/or driver was deleted by one of my optimization softwares. I checked the "Device Manager" list and was unable to locate "any" memory card device.  All the USB plugs work fine. When I place an SD card in the memory card reader slot, the light comes on, but the computer does not recognize the card. The card does not show up in my "Computer" window with the other drives. I checked the card out on my other computer, and it worked fine.   I also have an HP laptop that I tested my SD cards on, and the cards worked fine on my laptop.
        I would appreciate any help, or suggestions, that any one might give.

How can I replace a 5 in 1 memory card reader in a HP Pavilion 500-027c Desktop PC

I bought a refurbished HP Pavilion 500-027c Desktop PC computer from walmart 2 weeks ago... The 5-in-1 memory card reader does not work... the device manager says that it is working properly but when I put in a memory card nothing happens... The white light comes on indicating that the memory card has been inserted but the computer does not recognize that anything has been done... I would like to just replace the card reader itself... I see on hp support where it is possible to replace the memory card reader (front I/O), but I don't know where to purchase the actual card reader itself... I don't have any specs on the card reader either.... PLEASE HELP!!!!

Thanks that page really helped out alot. And the card is a SDHC memory card. Now I just need to look into ordering part # 713240-003. How would I go about doing that anyways?
I bought it refurbished walmart and it had a 14 day warranty... Is there any type of manufacturer warranty?

Envy TouchSmart 17t-j000 Quad Memory Card Reader

My Envy TouchSmart 17t-j000 Quad memory card reader does not work. Notebook is only about six months old and I tried out a memory stick for the first time yesterday and nothing happened. The memory stick works fine in another computer. When I plug the memory stick in there is no AutoPlay window and it is not listed in This PC window. In Device Manager I do not see the card reader listed in USB controllers and Disk drives. I do see listed in Device Manager in Memory technology devices a Realtek PCIE CardReader. It is enabled and has the latest driver update. I have tried shutting down, disconnected power cord, removed battery, reversed procedure, and restarting notebook with the memory stick installed, still nothing. This Envy came with Windows 8 and I updated to 8.1. Also, all four USB ports work. System diagnostics test was performed and everything passed. Should I try to uninstall and re-install the Realtek PCIE CardReader? Thanks to anyone that can help?
