Inspiron 1525 A/C adapter/charger issues

Okay, so my computer won't turn on when connected to a power source.
With just the battery alone, it does absolutely nothing (no lights flash on the computer; nothing.) So I'm going to buy a new battery regardless.
With the A/C adapter/charger, the battery indicator light (third one from either side) flashes amber. Also, my wireless network indicator light is also flashing on and off when the a/c-charger is connected, but the laptop still does not turn on.
Shouldn't I be able to use the laptop without the battery? Is there something wrong with it? HELP PLEASE!!!!

With JUST the A/C adapter/charger, the battery indicator light (third one from either side) flashes amber, but that's all. The charger lights up also (green light is steady) and the wireless network light also turns on (likes it's searching for a network connection), but the computer itself never turns on.

  • Dell Inspiron 1525 wireless issues.

After much frustration with the slowness on Vista, I decided to install Arch on my laptop  (Dell Inspiron 1525)
I've been running Arch on my Desktop for about a year now and it's been a while since I've done a fresh install.
The problem is getting my wireless card to operate.
I've tried the wiki and the web and haven't had great results.
my wireless card is a Broadcom BCM4310.  I first tried the b43 driver, but it doesn't support the 4310 (it does support the 4309 and 4311.  I guess mine got skipped )
anyways, I then tried the ndiswrapper around the bcmwl5 driver.  I followed the wiki to the letter to get this driver installed, but I am still not showing any wireless devices.
ifconfig -a shows my eth0 and lo.
ifconfig wlan0 up does nothing either.
    I'm stumped.
    any ideas?

  • ITunes will not update on Windows Vista Inspiron 1525

I have a Windows Vista Inspiron 1525 and iTunes version 9.1 or something. Every time I try to update iTunes/QuickTime to 9.2 or 10.0, it starts installing but stops after awhile. Please comment, whether you have a similar issue or have a solution to this problem. Thank you!

King Penguin set you on the right track. It's probably security software not recognizing the new version of itunes, and blocking it.

  • IPAD 3 battery charging issues

iPAD 3 battery charging issues. Read most of the discussions. My question is: If I take my iPAD to Apple Genius bar - what's the test they do to qualify for a replacement (do they place it on a charge and see the charge for Y% for X minutes or do they have other methods)

We're iPad users like you, so don't know.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Inspiron 1525 - Hard drive failure.

    Dear iTunes users,
Before we begin - telling me I should've backed up my hard drive, that backing up is a must, BACK UP BACK UP BACK UP or whatever isn't helpful. You are here to help me. Saying this will only make me cry harder.
I foolishly purchased a dell inspiron 1525 a few years ago. Recently it decided it had had enough, and went as far as to freeze on the blue screen. You want to know what I was doing as my computer decided to kill itself? I was backing up my hard drive.
This mass failure could mean that I have lost both my orginal hard drive, and the back up to the external. Not only have I lost my iTunes, I have lost my photos, videos, work, EVERYTHING.
I have been googling for a while now on any computer I can get my hands on, and I have heard through the grapevine that Apple, have, on occasion given you your iTunes back to you. There is always a link to a form, which I am assuming doesn't exsist anymore - as it takes you to the support page.
To be honest, I am prepared to send apple my broken computer, my broken external - to show them. I have also considered paying the £5000 I have been quoted for hard drive recovery - which, like a portentially life saving operation on an old pet - I might not have a hard drive at the end of it.
Sadly, I do not have a new computer yet, and may not for a while as I have no money. However my younger sister has said that she is happy for me to use her macbook, in my account on it, to put my itunes in, if it is ever returned to me, at which point I will immidiately back it up to an external hard drive. I have no intention of sharing it with her - she is my sister and I don't like sharing.
I've spent a lot of money with apple, I had just bought two new albums that I was really looking foreward to listening to. I know that I am a fool, that I should have backed it up before - but if anyone could tell me if they still do this I would really be very grateful.
We all think it's not going to happen to us, but really, I have nothing left bar some songs on my Ipod - that I am tiering of. I do not want to transfer them to a computer. That is not what I am asking. I am perfectly capable of figuring that one out for myself.
I just want my stuff back, like all of the other idiots out there.
    Thank you for your time,
    Florence.
(for those of you who thought tl;dr, I did bold the main points for you. XD)

    Hi @goshenguy
Thank you for your inquiry, I am happy to help.
I grasp you tested the hard drive from the bios and it failed.  This tests the physical aspcects of the hard drive and when it fails it does require replacement.  You were able to retrieve some of your files using recovery software but not all.
Your recovery partition is still intact and when you try to do a recovery with the disks from Best Buy you do not get past these options R / F / Q  but will not proceed.
Here is a link to Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows XP, 2006 or Later) that may assist you in performing a recovery.
Here is a link to the Maintenance and Service Guide HP Pavilion dv6000 Notebook PC. Please note chapter 3 page 42 for a replacement hard drive part number.
    HP Parts, HP Replacement Parts
If you are still unable to do the recovery, you could try contacting Best Buy for assistance with the recovery kit they provide.
I don't know if it is possible, but you may want to check cloning software to see if you could clone the D partion to the new drive or connect both drives and  try a drive to drive copy of the D partition.
If you were able to successfully put the D partition on a new hard drive you should be able to do a recovery from the  D partition  to take it back to factory.
If none of the above has allowed you to successfully do a recovery, I suggest contacting Best Buy to see it they have  options other then purchasing  a  third party recovery kit.
    Good Luck!

  • Arch on a Dell Inspiron 1525

    Good morning.
This is not much of an issue as an attempt to avoid issues - I was wondering if anyone managed to install Arch properly on an Inspiron 1525, and may have some tips to give me in order for me to get it to work properly.
I've never installed Arch on a laptop before, so I'm trying to be careful.
    Thanks in advance

I have an Inspiron 1525n... and in fact everything works... here're the problems I encountered:
    1) On my system the Wi Fi card is a Broadcom Corporation BCM4310 USB Controller and as such it has no native linux driver and I only managed to get it to work with ndiswrapper (details in this thread)
    2) The home multimedia key and the FN key are not detected so if you want to get them working you need to install third party programs that make a model keyboard and so on.... I think details are described in the hotkeys wiki... As for the play/pause stop and volume keys - they have asigned keycodes so all you need to do is bind xf86 functions to them - here's a sample of my Xmodmap:
    keycode 174 = XF86AudioLowerVolume
    keycode 160 = XF86AudioMute
    keycode 176 = XF86AudioRaiseVolume
    keycode 162 = XF86AudioPlay
    keycode 164 = XF86AudioStop
    keycode 144 = XF86AudioPrev
    keycode 153 = XF86AudioNext
    keycode 222 = XF86PowerDown
(but you keycodes may be different so check them using xev)
3)I've goten my webcamera to work... partially... It is recognized after installing the package linux-uvc-svn and loading the uvcvideo module, and I've been able to take some good pictures using motion, however I'm yet to find a suitable application (note that the linux-uvc driver should be included in the 2.6.26 kernel)
The IEEE port is recognized, bluetooth and obex server work fine (the card reader also according to the information on the Web, but I haven't tested it yet)
I haven't tested the hdmi port, but that's for when I get a HD TV
EDIT: Ah, and BTW sound works beatifully with the OSS4 driver - everything was recognized by default (I didn't bother trying ALSA, since I use OSS4 on my other PC and it gets me better sound than ALSA)
EDIT2: The home key is detected, you just need to asign keycode for it...

  • Dell Inspiron 1525 - Sound and Xorg Conf

Hey everyone, hope I'm posting this in the right forum.
I have my arch install on an Inspiron 1525 as the title states. I have Xorg and OSS installed on it currently. I need to know two things:
    1. I consulted the Arch Wiki for the laptop and it suggests that OSS provides louder and better sound than ALSA. Is this a confirmed thing, and if so is there anything special with OSS that I have to do to get sound nice and loud? This is a biggie because the speakers in their current state put out fairly low sound. I was hoping this could be improved.
    2. Under Xorg, I have the drivers installed correctly and everything. I plan on using input hotplugging so devices aren't that big an issue. What I'd like to know is how to setup the conf with the monitor and intel integrated graphics that come with the laptop. This is more me just being confused with Xorg than anything else, though if anyone has a good sample Xorg conf for this laptop that I could use, I would greatly appreciate it.
Any other issues with the laptop that would be good to know are welcome as well. Thanks in advance for the help.

I don't know is there any sound loudness improvement when using OSS, but I would suggest you to use ALSA. I have a similar laptop (Inspiron 1300) so my xorg.conf may be useful to you, but you will need to change some lines to match your graphic card.:)

  • Early 08 MacBook charging issue?

    Hiya,
I recently purchased a black macbook off of eBay. I fixed an issue with the hard drive structure (white screen of death) and it's a neat little computer. What I did notice was a problem were the batteries. This computer came with a black and a white OEM battery, both of which had rapidly 1 rapidly flashing green light. I had thought that this meant that the batteries were almost completely decharged (MacBook Pro does the same thing when on reserve battery). I took it to the apple store to get checked out, and the diagnostics showed that the black battery (didnt have the white one with me) was in the green (normal) section, and that it wasn't a problem. The Geniuses discovered that the component of the computer that charges the battery was faulty and needed to be replaced. When I went to go pick up my computer from the repair today, I noticed that the black battery inside it didn't have any flashing lights (when the indicator button was pressed), and assumed it was completely uncharged. I borrowed a charger from one of the computers on a personal setup table (it was a T-style), and the battery had the 10:00 (0%) until charged issue. The light on the charger was orange, and the indicator on Leopard shows that the battery was charging.
What's interesting to me though is that when I took it home and left it plugged in (L-style MacBook Pro charger, 85watt, was told it was ok), it charged for around 10 mins, then the light turned green, and the status bar says (0%, Battery is not charging). When I check the level of the battery with the button, it flashes the single green light again. I charged the white battery and got the same results. The black battery has around 650 cycles and the white battery has around 720. I downloaded coconutBattery and did some examination, and found that both batteries have an Amperage of -1, but both still have 91% of capacity (lifespan is my guess). I can post pictures of the coconutBattery/system reports from both batteries, and both are listed by system profiler as in Normal Condition.
I did run software update on this recently, and the only things that can be updated are applications, java, etc. This macbook is running Leopard 10.5.8, and has the 1.4 (1.31) firmware installed for the use of L-shaped power adapters. The power adapter works fine and charges the battery on my MBP, but unfortunately it's the only adapter I have to use at the moment. I have reset the SMC and NVRAM numerous times to no avail. If you have any info about this, please post.
    Thanks!
    ~Dan

What's odd is that after pressing the MagSafe adapter into the computer (with pressure), the light changes from Green to Orange and says it is charging. It has been in this state for 10-15 minutes, and hasn't risen from 0%. The white battery doesn't charge at all. I tried resetting the PMU and PRAM again to no avail. What I notice is that as soon as I plug in the adapter, it turns green and doesn't charge the battery. However, once I press the adapter into the socket, it turns Orange and says it's charging.
The battery info says that the battery is taking in 0 mAh, so I'd be lead to thinking that it's a glitch with the power system that tells the adapter the battery is being charged

  • Inspiron 1525 not able to select internal mic for webcam, nor is it showing up on Control Panel, Sound, Audio Devices

Initial problem was Dell Webcam video recording records no sound.
In Control Panel, Device Manager, Sound Video and Game Controllers there are two High Definition Audio Devices listed: Location 1 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus) - I deduce this is the internal mic; and Location 2 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus) - I deduce this is external microphone jack. Both have the same driver version.
The Control Panel, Sound, Recordings Tab showed 2 devices that looked identical except the bars that show green with volume were only on the first one, which is also the default one, and would detect sound if you got real close to the webcam mic when talking. Both devices displayed as 'working'.
Accessories, Sound Recorder recordings are silent no matter how close you get to internal webcam mic.
Dell WebCam Audio Source tab has two selections, both reading Microphone (3 - High Definition Audio Device). Both selections record sound with the EXTERNAL MIC jack. There is no way to select the internal webcam mic, it is not an option.
Per instructions found on the web, I uninstalled the first device only in Device Manager and rebooted. The same driver version as before was installed. But now the settings have changed. Device Mgr still shows Loc 1 and Loc 2. However, under the Sound, Recordings tab there are still 2 devices, but the first one says 'currently unavailable' , is still the default, and the sound bars that go green for audio testing are on the SECOND device now instead of the first one. If you check the Properties for each device, they BOTH are showing the same location Location 2 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus), i.e., the external mic jack.  Loc 1 device (built in mic) is not showing up!!
Accessories Sound Recorder works with the EXTERNAL mic. (How does it know which one to use, it's not giving me a choice?)
So the Location 1 device (internal mic) is not showing up anywhere besides the device manager. I want to use the internal mic for skype and webcam. Somehow I need to get the Loc 1 device to show up on the Sound - Recording tab and in the Webcam Audio Source list? What do I do?
Thank you in advance for your help.

    This is Vista.
Go to the Inspiron 1525 support page. Find the small blue "Change OS" and click on the arrow. Select Vista. Then download and install these 3 items with a restart between each one.
    1. Dell System Software in the System Utilities category.
    2. Intel Mobile Chipset in the Chipset category.
    3. Sigmatel audio driver in the Audio category.
See if it works any better after you get the Sigmatel driver installed.

  • Dell Inspiron 1525 Problems

    Hello.
I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Vista Home Premium preinstalled. I wanted to know if there is a way to install a fully working Arch Linux system on it. I tried with 2007.08 CD only to fail at getting the wireless card to work. Dell Inspiron 1525 comes with a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini Card. I tried installing both the latest vista and xp drivers for this card via ndiswrapper. I thought all was well since I got the message that said that the driver is installed and the device was present. However, when I checked iwconfig, the normal 'wlan0' was not in the list, just 'lo'. Can someone help me with this?
Also, I used a ZenWalk liveCD to test out if I have sound support. It seems like the sound doesn't work either, but that may be because I used an old liveCD. The 1525 comes with a 'SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-MAJOR HD Audio' or also known as "High Definition Audio 2.0".
I have also learned that although Dell does offer this laptop with Ubuntu installed, they changed the wireless card on the ubuntu version. I don't know if that means anything. Also, I have heard of many who have gotten linux installed on this laptop. I have some experience with linux, but all of that is with a desktop pc. (Used Arch for the longest after trying out Gentoo ^^)
I checked the Ubuntu forums on this matter, and they seem to have a lot of documentation on it, but I am unsure if it will apply to Arch. Does Arch come with the bcm43xx drivers? If it does, then that means I have to blacklist it or something. I really need help.
    - Dennis ^^
PS: Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks for all of the replies. I downloaded the newest ISO and tried to get it working again. Well, b43 did not really work as I hoped it would, so I went and used ndiswrapper. To my astonishment, it works. Apparantly, something changed from the 2.6.22 to 2.6.24 kernels that made it so that the ndiswrapper module won't be detected with a broadcom card with the 2.6.22 kernel. This is all a guess, but it kinda makes sense. Only one problem though, I did all of the usual steps to set up the wireless connection... and it can't seem to connect to the internet... I did:
    iwconfig wlan0 essid ********
    iwconfig wlan0 mode Managed
    iwconfig wlan0 key restricted **********
    ifconfig wlan0 up
    dhcpcd wlan0
*I have tried this with other network cards, those on my desktop, and they worked fine.
When I do 'iwlist wlan0 scanning' , I detect all the networks that I expected to see, but it doesn't connect to any of them, which I think is really weird.
I don't really care much for vista, but I miss messing around with a decent CLI, and I will be majoring in Computer Science once I get into college, which would definately include classes on Bash scripting, so I wanted to get a linux install on my laptop since my desktop died. I have experience with Ubuntu, Gentoo (Stage 1 and Stage 3 installs.. Stage 1 was a giant pain and failed the first 4 times), ZenWalk, MEPIS, SuSE, Fedora, Arch, and some others. Of all of these, I liked Arch the best. So, I was really hoping I could get it installed.
Well, it seems I will be stuck with vista for a while... but I must say, it's not AS bad as I thought it would... still slow and all though ^^
    @anti-neutrino:
Hello. Dual-booting is tricky stuff in my opinion. I have never done it myself, so I can't really help you there. But, there are plenty of documentation out there on it. According to http://www.goodells.net/dellrestore/mediadirect.htm, DellMediaDirect is installed on a hidden partition. So, I'm guessing that as long as you don't touch that partition, it would still be there. What I think you would have problem with is where to put grub (or lilo). The safest thing to do, I would think, is to place it in a floppy, if you have an external floppy drive, or place grub into a USB Flash drive which you would be able to boot from. I have no idea how to do this in Arch, but I have done it before in SuSE. And as for Vista, as long as you don't touch the vista partition, it should stay the same. The booting is the only problem I can see for you. If the boot loader (grub or lilo) is installed in a separate medium (floppy/USB) then to boot into the linux partition, all you would have to do is boot from the medium, eitherwise, it would boot into Vista (or whatever you have that boots up first) automatically.. that is unless they changed something, and knowing how fast linux is developed, there are a lot of changes, so I'm not really sure if it still works this way.
    @Warper:
I don't really mind the sound right now. If I can get internet to work, I know I can solve all the other problems later, as all I need to do is look up how to solve for it. But, yeah I know sound is muted by default in Arch. It's just that with my desktop, sound was automatically detected by other LiveCD's that I was confused when those same LiveCD's couldn't detect it. Again, this might just be that the LiveCD's use an older kernel.
    - Dennis ^^
PS: I reinstalled vista and wrote this post in it. T_T

  • IPhone 4 - Charging issues including "This accessory may not be supported."

So for the past couple of weeks, on and off, my iPhone 4 (2 years old) has been having intermittent charging issues. I have gone through four charging cords, all from Apple, and two charging blocks, both from Apple - none of these change/resolve the issue.
I had an online chat through Apple with someone a week ago, and she suggested resetting my settings only (resetting the entire phone was my husband's idea) - resetting the phone entirely did not resolve the issue, and resetting the settings (and only the settings) works for maybe 1-2 days maximum. Any of the following things happen when plugging in the phone to charge:
    1) The phone charges normally (very rare anymore, happens more often if I reset the settings on the phone first then put everything back the way I want it)
    2) The phone charges for maybe two seconds, then a message pops up that says "This accessory may not be supported." (8/10 times this happens, can usually get it to charge normally if I unplug and replug a bunch of times)
    3) The phone makes the noise/vibrates like it is charging, but the battery percentage will go down over time. (rare, but does happen)
An Apple store visit is not exactly...possible? I live an hour and a half away from my closest one, and the location is not easy to get to (cross a bridge, pay $13 toll, $13 to get back over to go home, and that's just the way there and back...forget finding the place). I have cleaned out the phone at the charging port more times than I can count. My husband seems to think it is a battery issue...thoughts?

iOS 7 will give errors on non Apple certified peripherals.  So make sure you only use Apple certified products. Did you backup the phone and then RESTORE AS NEW (not reset)? Try doing that by plugging the phone to iTunes on a computer. See if that helps. If it solves the problem, there could have been corrupted software on you phone. If not, it could be a hardware issue (including the battery), in which case you would need to go to a Apple Store or authorized service provider.

  • Can't connect to wireless network with Dell Inspiron 1525 with Vista

I set up a wireless network about a week ago, and have made it with the following security features: WEP, enable only certain MAC addresses to connect, and disabled broadcasting the SSID.  I have been able to use it just fine with my Mac computer using airport, but when I have tried to connect my roommates computer, a dell inspiron 1525 with vista, it can't connect.  I can locate the network but when I try to connect to the network, I get a message saying that for an Windows cannot connect to the network and that the Wireless association failed due to unknown reasons.  It then says to connect with your administrator, but that is me.  I have a minimal knowledge of computers just enough to be dangerous and am basically figuring this out as I go along.  If anyone has some advice for me, both my roommate and I will be very grateful.
    Thanks,
    - Jill

Sounds like you may have been in extended display mode. If so, all you had to do was drag a window to the projector display. Or, if you wanted mirrored mode, in display preferences select check mirror display.
