hayat ([email protected])Install Oracle8i Personal and Dev2k on same machine in following steps
1. Install Oracle Personal
2. Install Dev2k (Include SQL Net) and restart the computer
3. Find file tnsnames.ora
4. Locate string "TCP-Loopback" in tnsnames.ora
5. Change it with some other name and remember it.
6. In the regarding entry (few lines below) specify oracle SID
7. If you dont know you ORACLE-SID find it in init.ora file
8. Go to command prompt and write 'lsnrctl'
9. A propmpt will come write 'start'
Note:
1. If you are Installing Dev-2k on a client machine and Oracle server is running on any other machine then Do steps-1,8,9 on server and rest on DEV-2k Machine.
2. If bad-command occurs on 'lsnrctl' then try to find out the similar exe file in ORACLE_HOME\bin directory and write that name
If you still get some error mail me at [email protected] -
What is the minimum config to install Oracle Server ?
Hi All,

Install Oracle Server before Developer?
Could someone one please confirm that whether the Server or Developer needs to be installed first in a Windows installation.
I have to reinstall.
I have just been educated in the busines of get Net*8 connection set up so that tnsname.ora and the listener process have the same values forDear Steve,
Even I am facing the same dilemma as well.
I installed Oracle8i Release 8.1.7 on my Pentium III machine running Windows NT 4.00 Server (Service Pack 6a) into the ORACLE_HOME "Ora81". I followed this by installing Designer 6i Release 2 and Forms 6i Patch 2 (in that sequence) into the ORACLE_HOME "Orant".
However, I am unable to install the OTN Sample Code for Forms and Reports Feature/Benefit Demos (available at http://technet.oracle.com/sample_code/products/forms/listing.htm#featdemo). When I try to install it in the ORACLE_HOME "Orant", the installer informs me that "Oracle Forms Demos does not support multiple installations, and therefore cannot be installed on 'Orant'. It can only be installed on 'Ora81'." Then, when I try to install the demos in the ORACLE_HOME "Ora81" it informs me that "Ora81 is already used as an Oracle home for 'Oracle 817 Production'. It cannot be used as an Oracle home for 'nt.'"
I am wondering whether my problems are due to the fact there is a necessary sequence that has to be followed for installing Oracle8i Server, Designer 6i, and Forms 6i. If so, what is it?
Also, is it mandatory to have Oracle WebDB installed and running on my machine to deploy both - client-server mode and Web-based (3-tier) mode of the Forms 6i / Reports 6i demos / applications. I already have the Apache HTTP server (that is packaged along with the Oracle8i Release 8.1.7 Server) running on my machine. What are the additional configurations (if any) that I have to do?
Thanks in advance to anybody who can shed some more light on the subject.

Sudip Dasgupta. -

1 - VMWare fusion for mac - downloaded 30 day trial
2 - Followed the article below to install linux and oracle in a virtual machine
http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/smiley-11gr1-install.html
- Oracle Enterprise Linux 64 bit
- Oracle 11gR1 RDBMS
3 - Installed Oracle SQL developer for MAC OS X

Best way to install oracle server + odp on same machine
Hello,
I've been having problems with this configuration:
Win 2003 x64 R2
+ IIS Server
+ Oracle DataBase 10g Release 2 102010_win64_x64_database
+ 10.2.02 patchset Win2003 x64
+ ODAC 10.2.02 x64 Beta
So far, I've installed all in the same Oracle_home.
I get an ORA-12154 "TNS:could not resolve service name" error when running my ASP .NET application.
Been reading in the Knowledge Base and found that there where some issues with access to bin directories from ASP applications. Tried to solve it that way but couldn't make it work.
I'm reinstalling now, and I'm wondering if it's better to install ODP on a different ORACLE_HOME...
Any advice?
Thanks for your help.On web.config you can find this line:
<add assembly="Oracle.DataAccess, Version=2.102.2.20, Culture=neutral,
PublicKeyToken=89B483F429C47342"/>
I could change this version to the one on my GAC but i cannot change the
version inside one of the DLLs of our app. There's 2 ways to reference an assembly. One is to use web.config, which is specific to ASP.NET. When you add a reference in the VS IDE, it will create this entry in web.config for you. Or, you can hand-edit the file to create it. Of course, you might get an entry like this "by accident" if you copy from somebody else's code example.
For library, console, Win Forms, and all other project types except ASP.NET, a reference placed within the IDE will create metadata in the assembly's manifest area.
In all cases, you should only put a reference on the specific Oracle assembly you want to use. If the manifest or web.config are wrong, it means you referenced the wrong assembly. The manifest of an assembly can be viewed with ildasm.
You need to be anal about developing with the same exact assemblies as the ones you will deploy with.
Sometimes Oracle will add a "binding redirect" assemblies with new updates, and this forces all pre-existing programs to automatically use the new assemblies. I personally would like to see them document this better. This can cause a great deal of confusion because it can cause production programs to use newer assemblies than the ones you developed with. In most cases, we hope this is fine. But it flies in the face of "side-by-side" deployment and invalidates one of the key advantages of .NET.

Problem installing ODAC for Oracle Server 11g
I have installed Oracle Server 11g (OS:Windows XP)
Questions:
1. I tried installing ODAC for Oracle Server 11.1.0.6.21, then its giving the following error message: "Oracle data access components can only be installed over an existing oracle server 11g".
2. We have a Monorail application running on NHibernate using ODP.NET. It's working perfectly when I run it on my Visual Studio 2008.
But, when I tried to host this application, it gave me the following error message: "The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client"
Please suggest how to resolve these issues.Hi
Could that be related to the %ORACLE_HOME% ?
I've read that on the ODAC installation guide:
On a machine without Visual Studio .NET 2003 installed, ODAC products now work if they are installed in a new Oracle Home
So it should be performed in a new %ORACLE_HOME% and not the same as the database. Please change that and retry.

On your second question :
Q: I get an error: "Unable to load DLL (OraOps.dll)". How do I fix this?
A: First, ensure the OraOps.dll file is in your Oracle bin directory (e.g. d:\oracle\ora92\bin\). Next, check that your Oracle bin directory is in the Windows system path. If either of these are not present, re-install ODP.NET. Depending on the application, you may have to restart the application (e.g. Windows Service) or reboot the computer (e.g. ODP.NET install makes changes to the PATH) for ODP.NET installation to be complete. If your ODP.NET installation is still not working, you may be running into this problem.

I am trying to install Oracle server 8.0.3 on windows 2003
I get an error as "Unable to delete the NT service for the SQL*Net V2 listener".
1) the installation is a fresh one.
2) before installing i have checked the services applet where there is no oracle services.
Pls respond . how shouls i proceed.

Thanks.First, technical questions need to be addressed to an appropriate technical forum. There is an installation forum under Products | Database | Installation.
Second, Oracle 8.1.7 was the first version of Oracle that was certified on Windows 2000. 9.2 was the first version certified on Windows 2003. Oracle 8.0.3 hasn't been supported in a number of years. I wouldn't expect this combination to work.

Hi there!
The first thing you should do if you get ANY (almost) error when
installing Oracle Server in RedHat Linux v6,0 is to read this
document carefully: http://jordan.fortwayne.com/oracle/
After hours of struggle it finally worked for me :-)))))
Only two things to add here:
1) If you want to be able to connect to the Linux server
(telnet) and running utilities like sqlplus locally on the
server, you should copy the ".profile" file to the users home
directory, add the user to the group "dba" AND make sure that
the $ORACLE_HOME directory has execute permissions for members
of the "dba" group (mine had default ONLY permission for the
owner to execute).
2) The file "listener.ora" was (for some reason) written
with "oracle_sid" where it really should say the real SID name
that is in my case "ORCL".
I just can't thank the guy who wrote the step-by-step
Installation guide for Oracle on RedHat Linux enough... THANK
YOU!

since i need to solve this issue asap, I request you to please helpAssuming that you are following the written instructions available at http://docs.oracle.com that walk you through the install. And assuming you installed the correct versions of libraries. And assuming you set permissions correctly.
I'd suggest metalink and opening an SR.
If you didn't follow the docs ... rm -rf would be a good place to start. -
Oracle Server + Emulex HBA Lpc11002
Hi,
We have installed Oracle Server 2.2.1 with Emulex LPC11002, When we are trying to fetch the information about the particular FC or when we are trying to install CLI interface module to that FC its throwing error
"Error while loading shared libraries: libnl.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
Oracle VM Server has inbuild drivers for Emulex lpc11002 as per the release notes from Oracle VM Server
Kindly let us know what would be the problem
Regrads,
Shanthakumar KHi,
it seems OVM Server 2.2.1 does not install libnl by default.
If you have access to ULN install the libnl from there.
Otherwise configure your server to have access to publicyum.oracle.com (howto you will find on the site),
And do a
# yum install libnl
Hopefully OVM will not miss other packages you might need for the CLI interface...

What I have to do?I read the following related to oracle universal installer:
OUI allows silent installation, which is especially useful for work sataions that do not support a graphical interface. You can capture the response to each installer question in a response file and use the file for future installations. Installer activities and result statuses are logged into files that you can review after installation.
Does any one have an idea how to achieve this, in details if possible?
Thanks in advance
